We don't have enough of these kinds of songs in Eurovision recently. I miss stuff like Qele Qele and Dum Tek Tek. Even the Balkan countries have been sounding more Western.
For me the Eastern Mediterranean swinging music works better, and I also like the quietness of some Celtic songs, in general that works more for me than the Balkan dramas.
alvaricomg yes i love tradition. Im tired of all these modern pop songs which sound the same and about nothing. Miss songs like "Lane moje", "Zauvijek moja" and Turkey. Or Secret Garden. Music died in 2010s.
I hope the cultural influences and languages continue it's what makes Eurovision special and we always end up finding something so special that you won't find in commercial music. Xxx
I would also have added the part from Love Love Peace Peace when they are making fun of all this. "Show the viewers your country's ethnic background by using by using an old traditional folklore instrument that no one has heard of before. Just make something up. No one will know".
Azerbaijan 2012 😍 mugam Azerbaijan 2009 - Tar (musical instrument) 2012 Eurovision in Azerbaijan 2nd semi-final local instruments and eurovision winners 😍😍
I love this kind of music. It shows who you are instead of the generic, sounds the same music, and wish the winner should be from this kind of music. I encourage them especially the Balkans to choose their root music.
When they made a mention of history, the first thing that came to mind was Geneology's _Face the Shadows_/_Don't Deny_. They even wore costumes that were close to the folk styles.
My favorite songs are the cultural/folk ones always. Hungary 2017 is still my favorite from last year. Also really miss the cultural sound of the Balkans (Serbia ❤️❤️❤️❤️)
My favorites cultural songs are: the Spanish , Italian and Portuguese genre ! so passionate so emotional ! but i admite that the irish and the Balkan songs are so brillant , so mystical and so amazing. but definitely The songs from Spain, Italy and Portugal
Finland 2010 Ukraine 2006 Russia 2012 Turkey 2009 Albania 2006 Azerbaijan 2009 Denmark 2013 (instrumentals) Estonia 2009 Ireland 2014 & 2007 Croatia 2009 Belarus 2017 Those are missing :( But still great video! ;)
Yay! Im so happy that you included Poland 2005 and 2014. And yes i miss Balkans a lot. Miss "Lane moje" and "Zauvijek moja". Do Abbayish songs but they are a lot and its hard to say which are Abbayish. I must make a video with all Abbayish.
A few more that come to my head: The United Kingdom: 1966, 1977 Israel: 1974, 1982, 1983, 1988, 1991, 1995, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2017 Germany: 1999 Portugal: 1996 Sweden: well, basically their whole 2013 hosting gig. You could also argue that ABBA are practically Swedish folk heroes. Switzerland: 1977 France: 1992, 1993, 1996, 2017 Italy: Basically everything
First of all, Rybak (Norway 2009) really should be in this video. Both the song and the dancing was inspired by Norwegian folk music and dancing. I'm probably biased, but as a Norwegian that's one of my favourite Eurovision songs ever. :) The folk inspired music is my favourite genre in Eurovision. Europe is filled with so much interesting culture and traditions, and not to mention folk music! When artists incorporate that into the competition it adds like 10 points in my book. Imagine how cool it would be to see every country enter Eurovision with folk inspired music one year, sung in their own language. It would be the best Eurovision year ever!
1) Serbia 2016 Sanja Vucic Zaa - goodbye (shelter) 2) Bosnia&Herzegovina 2016Dala&Deen ft. Ana Rucner and Jala - ljubav je 3) Armenia 2016Iveta Mukuchan - lovewave 4) Turkey 2009Hadise - dum tek tek
Lane Moje ❤❤❤❤ Zauvijek Moja ❤❤❤ Lejla ❤❤❤ Molitva ❤❤❤ Oro ( one of my fav all time) Yassou Maria ❤❤❤❤❤Watch my Dance ❤❤ And the others 😍😍😍😍😍 Zeljko is really king i hope a balkan country will take him as a songwriter 😍
Well, you missed the 2009 entry from Portugal, Flor de Lis, which is popular and traditional. And Portugal's 1976 entry is the most folksy for us, as it is an orchestrated fado. Glad you did not put Suzy here though lol
You guys nailed with the jazz video, but the folk rendition isn't as good as the previous was. 1. Where's Morrocco? Switzerland? Israel? Russian grannies? 2. Portugal has better examples: "Desfolhada", "Uma flor de verde pinho" and "O meu coração não tem cor" deserved to be cited, even " Todas as ruas do amor" 3. Almost half of the video with Balcan ballads? I really like them, but, let's face it, this video was with countries like Spain and Poland, that were showed faster.
Poland's 2005 entry is actually based on the Gypsy folklore rather than the Polish one. Our 2010 song is much closer to Polish traditional music. I also thought of 'Wild Dances' - as Ukrainian as it can be. And you could cover rock and opera/classical music at the ESC.
Yup, you are right but in Europe we have Hungarian Gypsies, Romaniam Gypsies, South Slavic Gypsies, Catalan Gypsies etc. . Polish song 2005 was both Gypsy-Polish folklore, eg. Gypsy band for Polish wedding party ;)
Ahh, this is going to be a very long comment 2000's to early 2010's was the golden age of Balkan Eurovision. Lane moje (Serbia and Montenegro 2004), Lejla (Bosnia and Herzegovina 2006), Rijeka bez imena (Bosnia and Herzegovina 2007), Molitva (Serbia 2007), Oro (Serbia 2008), Bistra voda (Bosnia and Herzegovina 2009), Love in Rewind (Bosnia and Herzegovina 2011), Korake ti znam (Bosnia and Herzegovina 2012), Nije ljubav stvar (Serbia 2012), Crno i belo (Macedonia 2012). It was kinda revived in 2016, with Sanja Vučić's Shelter (Serbia), Kaliopi's Dona (Macedonia), and Nije ljubav stvar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and even though Macedonia and B&H didn't make it to the finals, they became popular in their own countries. Serbia has also had some other notable entries, like Beauty Never Lies (2015). In 2018, they [Serbia] also tried to represent their culture with Nova deca. Ovo je Balkan gained success and rosed Milan Stanković to fame, but isn't that loved. They were also some more joke entries, like Pokušaj (B&H 2008), and Moja štikla (Croatia 2006), and Croatia's best result so far was in 1999 with Doris Dragović performing Marija Magdalena. Nowadays we usually send entries from the artists no one has ever heard before. Our songs are cheesy. They are national finals where you can't stop fan girls from voting for their favorite, who indeed has great vocals, but a terrible song. We're trying to sing some lines in English but we fail terribly, making the song a bilingual garbage. Balkan has begun to fail terribly, and I can see that it's going to continue failing.
There are endless examples of folk & cultural influenced songs. Which one would you add to the list?
you should start uploading old ESCs.. like everything pre-2003 and 2009 & 2004 semi finals
I would add georgia 2007 slovenia 2012 montenegro 2014 and a junior example ukraine 2007
1944
Poland 2010
Sweden 2000 Roger Pontare När vindarna viskar mitt namn (When Spirits Are Calling My Name).
We don't have enough of these kinds of songs in Eurovision recently. I miss stuff like Qele Qele and Dum Tek Tek. Even the Balkan countries have been sounding more Western.
Mira Awad Qele Qele and Dum tek tek are my favorites from that countries
We all have to agree,Balkan is killing this genre.
False! Balkan folk FTW!
And we (the Netherlands) killed the genre
For me the Eastern Mediterranean swinging music works better, and I also like the quietness of some Celtic songs, in general that works more for me than the Balkan dramas.
This is the reason why I love Eurovision, the different and diverse cultures, countries, religions...all together united by music 😊
I totally agree! I don't want commercial copies, I want national sounds and languages =)
alvaricomg Yees...my favorite Eurovision Songs are songs with culture and national music from the country
alvaricomg yes i love tradition. Im tired of all these modern pop songs which sound the same and about nothing. Miss songs like "Lane moje", "Zauvijek moja" and Turkey. Or Secret Garden. Music died in 2010s.

Alex Bag it was a parody, not plagiarism.
i would enjoy a video about the "power balads" like "1944", "I stand", "World", "Suus" and so on 😊
Power ballad isn't a genre and 1944 isn't a power ballad!
The best reason to be a fan of Eurovision is this kind of music
Not even mention of Jamala? She won with an Ethno/Folk song. Another Ukrainian winner Ruslana had folk & cultural elements as well
Portugal 2009 is like one of the most Portuguese entry ever and yet it wasn't shown. 'Twas my winner btw.
TMDGCMCT ty from portugal
TMDGCMCT amazing song!!
Was I the only one who burst out laughing when they classified Ovo je Balkan as a Balkan Ballad?
Βασιλική Oικονομοπούλου Nope
Βασιλική Oικονομοπούλου Yeah... There was Croatia they could choose
ESC Lazar Lijepa Tena would have been a better choice
It shows culture (the instruments)
Serbia and Montenegro 2005 is not much of a ballad either
One of the best videos on this channel!
I hope the cultural influences and languages continue it's what makes Eurovision special and we always end up finding something so special that you won't find in commercial music. Xxx
Where's Finland 2010 (Kuunkuiskaajat - Työlki ellää)?

The forogj világ no folk song!
3:23 - They were one of my first Eurovision favorites
When they made a mention of history, the first thing that came to mind was Geneology's _Face the Shadows_/_Don't Deny_. They even wore costumes that were close to the folk styles.
its nice reminder on some beautiful songs
My favorite songs are the cultural/folk ones always. Hungary 2017 is still my favorite from last year. Also really miss the cultural sound of the Balkans (Serbia ❤️❤️❤️❤️)

O şarkı rezalet olduğu için editlerken onu dinleyip kulaklarını ALLAH'ın rahmetine kavuşturmak istememiş olabilirdi.

DJ's (in other words examples of mixing and sampling for example Norway 2017)

First of all, Rybak (Norway 2009) really should be in this video. Both the song and the dancing was inspired by Norwegian folk music and dancing. I'm probably biased, but as a Norwegian that's one of my favourite Eurovision songs ever. :)

Well, you missed the 2009 entry from Portugal, Flor de Lis, which is popular and traditional. And Portugal's 1976 entry is the most folksy for us, as it is an orchestrated fado. Glad you did not put Suzy here though lol

3. Almost half of the video with Balcan ballads? I really like them, but, let's face it, this video was with countries like Spain and Poland, that were showed faster.
BALKANS
Sims Master
We are?!
Thank God, finally!
Balkan countries OWN this category sorry i don't make the rules
2009 is the year in which we can find more folk songs and my favourite
You should do Rock next and the video must feature Iceland 2007 - Valentine Lost!
For next episode rock or rap would be awesome
A video about ESC Folk and no Urban Trad?
Next genres I want to see: Opera/Classical elements, Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, Rap, Country.
People would you like a Balkan ballad mixed with Turkish or Arabic rythms from Poland but mixed with glam metal?
1989 Turkey, 1992 Netherlands entries were also ethnic.
Balkans VS Slavic VS Middle East
Where is Azerbaijan? ESC 2008 and 2012 MUGAM, ESC 2009 and 2014 national instrument TAR and BALABAN?
Asif Quluzade What is balaban??AAAA,you mean duduk.
Մանուլիկ Նուրջանյան no this is actually balaban. Duduk??? What is it?
Rrr Hhh Duduk is an instrument. (It's not Azerbaijani nor Armenian it's instrument from stone cage.)
....AMAZING....!!
Where is Albania?!?!
Ahh, this is going to be a very long comment
2000's to early 2010's was the golden age of Balkan Eurovision.
