quote; Which one of these books is known for truth? A religious book that any person can pick up and get to know truth without error.
The Bible it is the Truth, but the Truth is not found by ANY person who picks it up and reads it, the Truth only comes through proper interpretation of what you read. Where does correct interpretation come from, the Church that Jesus established on earth, or the Magisterium of the individual?

quote; We were around hundreds of years before actually since the beginning of time.
It's easy to verbally claim to be connected to the post Apostolic Church of the first century, but proving it is another story. Show me where there were other "Christian's" apart from the Catholic Church in the first few centuries after the Apostles? To qualify, the proof must be ancient documentation, not modern opinions. And while you're at it, I'll give you the chance to show me how Sola Scriptura was a Christian teaching in the immediate post Apostolic era. Good Luck.

Yes, anyone can make video, say anything, criticise anything -that's their freedom and I respect that.
But the truth is - Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world especially in the West. Mosques are popping up everywhere, everyday, every week, every month - people are coming to mosque to convert to Islam.
But Christianity is in decline in the west.( Africa, Asia - Christianity is not in decline).
Just few weeks ago - American Bible scholar - Dr Richard C Miller, Dr Dennis R MacDonald have left Christianity - watch mythvision Podcast) .
Dr Bart D Ehrman has already left Christianity.

@William Cloud - Proof text without a Context is a Pretext. But do those words forbid the making of images? They do not. God was forbidding idolatry, not the making of images. He said, "You shall not make for yourself any graven image of anything in the heaven above, or in the earth beneath. You shall not bow down to them nor worship them." God deliberately ADDS those last words, yet you IGNORE them. He forbids men to make images in order to Worship them. But He does not forbid the making of images. In Exodus25:18, you will find God ordering the Jews to make images of Angels! Would you accuse God of not knowing the sense of His own law? He says, "
And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover, on the two sides of the oracle." In other words, the Jews were to make images of things in the heaven above. Also what about Solomons Temple? And if your interpretation be true, why do you violate God's law by making images of things in the earth beneath? Why images/statues of kings and politicians in our parks? Why photographs of girlfriend,/wife or kids? On your theory you could not even take a snapshot of a sunset. You would be making an image of a thing in the earth beneath. You strain at a gnat and swallow a camel! This is the fruit of your private interpretation of Scripture. No. God does not forbid the making of images; He forbids the making of images in order to WORSHIP them. Shalom

I’m so grateful to the monks in the early centuries of the Church that helped preserve these sacred writings for us in holy scripture. What a blessing it is for us to have access to the Bible. The truth is, though, we live in an uncommon time- Literacy is more commonplace than ever before. Giving a common person a Bible in the 12th century would have profited them nothing; bringing them to the church, though, totally different story.

      @Margaret Beausoleil
      Margaret,
Our Lord guarantees absolute and constant truth in His Church.
      ▪︎JOHN 16:13
      13. When the SPIRIT of TRUTH comes, He WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL THE TRUTH; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
Having the truth, the Bible also needs a Holy Spirit inspired human interpreter to teach with authority in order to avoid conflict and division, when discerning what is truth. St Paul describes exactly WHO it is, in:
      ▪︎1 TIMOTHY 3:15
      15. if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is THE CHURCH of the living God, THE PILLAR and FOUNDATION of the TRUTH.
For such reasons Jesus clearly tells you to listen to the Church.
      ▪︎MATHEW 18:17
      17. If he, a sinning brother, REFUSES to listen to them, TELL THE CHURCH. If HE REFUSES TO LISTEN EVEN TO THE CHURCH, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector
The Church is the final authority for Christians. That's why He wants to make sure we understand it, by repeating it:
      ▪︎LUKE 10:16
      16. Whoever listens to YOU listens to ME. Whoever rejects YOU rejects ME. And whoever rejects ME rejects THE ONE who sent me.”
It does not say the Holy Spirit will inspire you and many to divisions, like what occurs today among protestants.
      Jesus rejects divisions!
      ▪︎JOHN 17:21-23
      21. so that they MAY ALL BE ONE, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.
      22. And I have given them the glory you gave me, SO THAT THEY MAY BE ONE, as WE ARE ONE,
      23. I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to PERFECTION AS ONE, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me.
St. Paul restates the same message of the ONE Church, with clear and specific words:
      ▪︎EPHESIANS 4:3-6
      3. STRIVING to preserve the UNITY of the spirit through the bond of peace:
      4. ONE BODY and ONE SPIRIT, as you were also called to the ONE hope of your call
      5. ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM
      6. ONE GOD and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
      God bless.

      Happy,
      The answer is no.
Is like trying to say that a guy from Honduras decides he is going to call his country, U.S.A. And say it's the same thing.
First of all, George Washington did not start Honduras, someone else did. You see the point?
Check your own church history. The man that started it is your founder. Jesus had nothing to do with it.
Our Church was founded by Jesus. However, an individual called Martin Luther decided to rebell and started his own community with totally different parameters, inventing a non biblical doctrine called "Sola Scriptura". That selfish anti Christian act started the protestant chaos since 1521 with thousands of divisions today.
That's your history and you can not change it or camouflage it. It is totally different than what Jesus founded.

While I am not Christian, the Catholic position makes more sense than Sola Scriptura, for the simple reason that scripture itself makes no claim to be self-interpretive. Therefore, a source or sources outside the Bible is/are required to decide very many important, even critical, biblical questions. I cannot argue that the Catholic Church _is_ that required outside arbiter, but I am saying that the Catholic perspective is on the right exegetical track. Scripture does not interpret itself, and in fact denies the efficacy of private interpretation. Hence an outside interpretive agent is called for.

Plus when Jesus and the Apostles taught and preached they did so verbally, plus the sacrament of the Eucharist, baptism etc, and how Jesus' fulfills the scriptures (I.e. the old testament). They did not write down instructions until later. First, Paul's letters to churches he had planted - he didn't hand them out a book, he preached verbally and then sent instructional letters when he way away. Then the gospel accounts were written as well as Acts, and probably the earliest Catechism The Didache in the 1st century AD. The issue with extreme sola scriptura is that it sounds like people think the bible (and often specific English translations!) exist in a vacuum and were handed out first lol. But that's not the case.

How did the Jews during the old testament compile the Hebrew scriptures? Was the Catholic magisterium there during that time to " give the scriptures their authority?"

    • @stephenbastasch7893
      @stephenbastasch7893 3 месяца назад

@@ronaldorivera4674 If the Magisterium is defined as an apostolic function, of course it did not exist until the notion of apostolic authority-and-succession was in place. Before that, certain scriptures, such as the writing down of the Prophets' messages, sufficed because they were thought to come directly from the mouth of YHVH to the Prophet's ear or heart.
Various Hebrew sects and schools performed the interpretive work. The "Jewish Magisterium" would have been the proto-rabbinical hammering out of which interpretations were valid, and which were not. At least, that's my guess about how it worked.
But I have no idea what the Catholic Church itself says about the "guarantee of pure doctrine" in pre-Christian Judaism. Probably a Church historian could elaborate.

I appreciate what Sam is doing getting different perspectives on issues like Sola Scriptura. However it is much easier to attack a position that to defend your own. I think a fair thing to do next would be to have Catholics and Orthodox lay out their own views on Authority and allow Protestants to offer their critique of that position. This would be a more objective way of looking at these issues. I think this is actually the second Catholic who has critiqued Sola Scriptura. I would like to see a Catholic make a positive case for the authority of the papacy and then an Orthodox and a Protestant to critique that position.

Hi Mr. Shamoun and thank you for what you do. I would just like to tell you this which i think you know. Many advance students of the Bible look around and see other advance students of the Bible end up in far different beliefs than ours, this brings many questions to our minds . We look at all these churches with different believes claiming to be following the Bible yet there are so many doctrinal differences. Looking at different churches and trying to understand how they came to their conclusion is good but if we base all our arguments on human reasoning we will never truly understand God (Isa 55:8-9), now Trent Horn's arguments are based on on this. He looks at religious people and what they believe. If the Bible is the word of God then what it says is true. Jesus says in John 8:30-32 that you shall know the truth. 1Cor 1:10 Pauls says that they all believed the same thing and condemned divisions or denominations . Matthew 16:13-20 Jesus promised to build one church, 1Tim 4:16 the one doctrine will save, 1Tim 1:3 teach no other doctrine it seems to me that the Bible claims that it only has one doctrine Ephesians 4:4-6 The believers are united in belief in one of each of these things some of them are one faith (Rom 10:17) and one body (Col 1:24 one church).
In conclusion John 12:48 Jesus says that we will be Judge by his words at the last days, I cannot see God judging people by somethings that was only meant for some to understand.

Dear Sam, I am a former Muslim who became a believer in Jesus 12 years ago. I was non denominational for many years, and became Catholic 2 years ago. I am regretting it. Yes it has beautiful teachings but I still struggle with the immaculate conception and Catholics’ obsession with Mary and their strange pious practices. God is the authority
    John 1:1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
    Psalm 12:6-7
6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
John 17:17 - Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Now God is obligated to share this truth with one who seeks it because He claims His word is truth. Nowhere in the scripture is fallible man or a physical church deemed the truth.
2 Timothy 2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 3:16 - All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
    James 1:21
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
There’s no scripture about a physical church that’s capable of saving anybody. Once you attempt to justify doctrine with church fathers, catechism, or education, then you’re completely out of bounds because none of those are or were ever inspired by God.

I read on Catholics sites that Judas "successor was Matthias. The "replacement, not succession of a traitor is no proof of Apostolic Succession.
The reason Judas was replaced was he was the son of perdition prophesized about in Psalm, which Peter quoted. "Let his habitation be desolate and let no man dwell therein...." It was taken from him, and no man "succeeded" him. He was just replaced. 12 apostles, not because Judas was an apostle who needed replaced,
Christ even called him a devil. He said he knew from the beginning who would betray him. John 6:64,70 and 71
And Matthias was the Lord’s choice to replace Judas, Peter didn't choose him by laying on of his hands. Important NOTE: Twelve tribes-twelve apostles. That was the Lord’s plan and program, for them to go the Jews only, but then it changed, obvioulsy.
Paul was also called by God, who was not of the Twelve. Peter never chose Paul God did, as he chose Matthias.
In Acts 12:1-2 When Herod killed James, the brother of John , no one "succeeded James place.
From Acts 13:2 to Acts 28:28, the “Acts” the record is filled the spiritual activities of Saul, who became Paul. In these later chapters Paul is mentioned more than one hundred times, and there is no record of the words or doings of Peter or any of the Twelve, except as they had dealings with Paul.
All the years covered by the first eleven chapters of Acts, the Lord kept the number of apostles at “Twelve,” for his Divine purpose and he sealed that number.
The Lord’s promise to the twelve apostles: And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” Matthew 19:28. Twelve was fixed on earth for a divine purpose and it's is fixed in heaven. The TWLEVE picked by God all had BEEN eye witnessed to his life and death. Not even Paul was of that TWELVE.
In Revelation 21:12 and 14 it says, “And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.” “And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.” Revelation 21:12 and 14.
No successor was chosen to take the place of James, Peter, John or any other!

I disagree with Trent when He says the Bible does not tell us who Christians are. John 13:35 tell us "by this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love one for another." I believe true Christians love Christ, and love those that love Christ regardless of denomination. Hypocrites are those that seek to condemn Spirit filled believers who don't think exactly like them. 1 John also points to love for the brethren as a marker of true faith. Thank you Sam and Trent for your love for the Brethren and this edifying talk.

Yes, I agree. When he said the bible doesn't tell us who is considered a Christian... I'm not sure what he is expecting. Christians are followers of Christ. We believe He is our Lord and Savior, we follow His lead. We confess we are sinners, believe He died and rose again to pay the price for our sins, with His blood... and we receive the Holy Spirit to guide us. We are born again, as the Bible says. Does he mean that the Bible should say something like "In order to be considered a Christian, you need to do x y z..."? To me it is pretty clear... You can come to that conclusion if you just read the gospels. Jesus is enough. If you truly believe that someone DIED a brutal death after living a perfect life to bring you to a paradise you don't deserve and save you from your mistakes, you naturally want to do as they wish. Completing a specific check list of task to make it into heaven just seems to take away the whole essence of God grace. I can't help but think the catholic doctrine will have you continuously questioning whether you are on God's good side... I am extremely confident I will be with my Father in the next life... because I KNOW Jesus saved me. Nothing I did to save myself...

According to the Catechism. Sacraments are required for salvation.

The Church affirms that for believers the sacraments of the New Covenant are necessary for salvation.

    • @fungusbeef
      @fungusbeef 4 года назад +7

Sacraments are a "means" that God has instituted to save us. They are tangible, physical, visible signs that truly do the thing signified; for example, in baptism we are truly washed of our sins (1 Peter 3:21) and in the Eucharist we truly eat and drink the body and blood of Christ (John 6:54). Sacraments are required for salvation in the same sense that faith is also required for salvation. God can save apart from these (the thief on the cross, baptized infants who lack the mental development to possess faith), but to reject them is to reject salvation. That's a long answer, but even most Protestants (I was one for many, many years) will tell you that saving faith is never "alone"; James 2 teaches that saving faith is faith that obeys -- and if Christ has provided us the sacraments and commanded us to participate, which he has, then that is how we should express our faith.

    • @justfromcatholic
      @justfromcatholic 4 года назад +7

Protestants believe that in order to be saved we do not need to become righteous. In fact, no matter how hard we try we can never meet God's high standard of righteousness. The only solution is we accept (by faith alone) free gift of Christ' righteousness imputed on us, covering our unrighteousness. When we die, instead of looking at our unrighteousness, God will see that perfect righteousness of Christ and based on that He will let us enter heaven. Their famous saying is "we enter heaven solely based on what Christ did on the cross and not based on anything we do". Even you die with sins, you still go to heaven, because they will be hidden under perfect righteousness of Christ.
In contrast Catholic believe that to enter heaven we need to be righteous (Mat. 25:46). Definition of righteous persons is given in 1 John 3:7. By ourselves we can never become righteous - Scripture says through Christ we are made righteous (Rom. 5:19), apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). Scripture says we lose our righteousness through sinning (Ezekiel 33:12) and there are deadly (mortal) and non-deadly (venial) sins (1 John 5:16-17). That is why Catholic believe that through Sacrament of Baptism we are cleansed from sin (Acts 2:38) and through Sacrament of penance (instituted by Christ in John 20:22-23) our sins committed after Baptism are forgiven and make us regain back our righteousness. This is repeated through out our life as we do sin again or salvation is a process. While Protestants say salvation is one time event and through faith alone, Catholics believe God saves us through faith (Eph. 2:8) and through sanctification (2 Thes. 2:13). Catholics will say "we enter heaven based on what Christ did on the cross AND what He (and God) does in us, i.e. we are transformed from unrighteous state to righteous one".

Romans 5:1 Therefore being Justified by faith we have peace with God through out Lord Jesus Christ.
      Acts 16:30-31
What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.
Find me a single verse in the Scriptures that teaches we are saved through the Sacraments, that salvation is by the sacramental system described by Rome.
The reason Romans Catholics are so against Sola Scriptura is because their view of salvation is unbiblical. Follow the Scriptures and you will end up protesting against the errors of Rome. Martin Luther demonstrated this. This is the reason that Rome sought to keep people from having the Scriptures in their own languages. Look at the lives of Wycliffe and Tyndale. It was only once Rome had realised they failed to prevent this from happening that they published their own translations.

that sola scriptura results from the fact that it is the word of God. This does not mean that the church does not have a deposit of faith. This means that the profession of faith must be consistent with the Bible. The Bible teaches that salvation is by grace through faith and that Christ's sacrifice is sufficient and that no merits are needed before God.

Shepherds and Holy Scriptures what a person needs who desires to be saved. Saint Peter the Chief Apostle teach us to follow the shepherds of the Church with obedience and humility. But he also warn them that there would be false teachers and shepherds in the Church. So a Christian needs to practice discernment in order to not follow blindly. The reasons why the Lord Jesus Christ clearly says there are many called but few are chosen.

If the 'document' of the scripture is analogous to the constitution, as in his analogy, then isn't it the interpreter (supreme court/ church tradition) that is prone to fallibility? He even said the supreme court has made the 'wrong' decision at times. Does he believe that Catholic history is without fallibility? Now, how do you distinguish between what is and isn't infallible revelation? I'm not sure I accept all implications of Sola Scriptura, but I err on this side because I believe we need an agreed upon standard that overrules human tradition. This is what Jesus was critiquing when he said to the pharisees, "you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition." I Interpret that to mean, man's traditions deprive people of the simple relationship with God that the scriptures were meant to provide.

Before the printing press, few people could have afforded a personal Bible. And few people could read. So how would Sola Scriptura be viable? What about illiterate people today? It seems right that God would create an authoritative church as guide.

And they can't agree on what the Bible say. It's obvious that the holy Spirit guides us through the church. Let's look at it this way. It's not "Sola Scriptura," it's PRIMUS Scriptura. Scripture not "only," but Scripture has first and prime authority. Why? Because the New Testament is the surviving voice of the original Apostles. The written Scripture of the Old Covenant is not equated with the written New Testament! What is the New Testament? The NT is Peter, Paul, Matthew Luke, James, John, etc, etc. It's what we have of them. Some traditions are obviously needed and valuable, that doesn't mean that the multiple centuries of traditions are needed.
People need to accept that evolution is real in this regard. Culture and tradition EVOLVE. Organized Religions evolve. They evolve! Any objective analyst knows this. Evolution has not only distorted Catholic religion, it has also distorted Protestant theology. Thus we have a zillion denominations, and politically progressive Protestants conforming to the secular world.
"The canon was organized by the Catholic Church." Oh? You mean they met under the Virgin and Child statue, and recited the Rosary before their decision? Can you stop making it seem like the Catholic Church was one, unchanging thing? NO NO a thousand times no.

Peace to you, Mr. Sam. With Scripture alone, your field of action is not only limited (II Pet III, 15-6), but goes against Scripture itself (Joh XIV, 23-4): it is Luther's famous trap door from which so many beliefs have emerged and which all contradict each other. In fact, before Scripture, Our Lord taught, He wrote nothing, and He did not command His Apostles to write anything but to teach. Before Scripture, therefore, the Faithful believed: there are therefore two Sources of the Word of God, Tradition (He I, 2; Lk X, 16; Rom X, 14-18; Joh XXI, 26; Joh XX, 30 ; II Thes II, 14-5… III Joh I, 13-14), and the Bible.
But it is not for the Faithful to interpret either Tradition or the Bible but for the Magisterium established by Christ (Mt VII, 15; Act XX, 29) by which the Faithful is sure to know the voice of God (I Tim III, 15; Joh XIV, 16. 26) as in the Old Testament, it is not for the Faithful to interpret the Torah but for the Supreme Pontiff, the Prophets.
Thus, under the guidance of the Magisterium, your field of action is legitimate and assured (Mt XVI, 18). You will then know why the number of Books in the Bible is not 66 but 73 because this Magisterium received the same mission as Christ (Jn XX, 21) and he must ensure it until the end of the world, so much that there will be souls to save (Mt XXVIII, 20).
The key point is this: any religion, tradition or script that claims to be divine needs a sure authority, an infallible interpreter. Outside of that, we have no guarantee of what God meant, it is chaos and division. This argument will facilitate your debates, as you do on Islam because you know Arabic, because everyone sometimes interprets, everyone stands on his positions without being able to conclude.
To the Church of Christ was promised victory, as symbolized by the Prophet Daniel (Dan II, 34-5).
    Peace on you !

Can you give me one example in the New testament where they say that we can pray to those who have passed on? For example Stephen who was the first martyr to intercede for us? That's very different than praying TO and asking a saint who has past and is in spirit to intercede for us. We know that humans are not omnipresent like God to hear every prayer from every corner of the earth that is made to them. In Daniel 10: 12-13 we read that even angles can't be omnipresent and can be delayed if they are bound to do something somewhere else. “If I were not a Catholic, and were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which did not get along well with the world; in other words, I would look for the Church which the world hates. My reason for doing this would be, that if Christ is in any one of the churches of the world today, He must still be hated as He was when He was on earth in the flesh. If you would find Christ today, then find the Church that does not get along with the world. Look for the Church that is hated by the world, as Christ was hated by the world. Look for the Church which is accused of being behind the times, as Our Lord was accused of being ignorant and never having learned. Look for the Church which men sneer at as socially inferior, as they sneered at Our Lord because He came from Nazareth. Look for the Church which is accused of having a devil, as Our Lord was accused of being possessed by Beelzebub, the Prince of Devils. Look for the Church which theworld rejects because it claims it is infallible, as Pilate rejected Christ because he called Himself the Truth. Look for the Church which amid the confusion of conflicting opinions, its members love as they love Christ, and respect its voice as the very voice of its Founder, and the suspicion will grow, that if the Church is unpopular with the spirit of the world, then it is unworldly, and if it is unworldly, it is other-worldly. Since it is other-worldly, it is infinitely loved and infinitely hated as was Christ Himself. ... the Catholic Church is the only Church existing today which goes back to the time of Christ. History is so very clear on this point, it is curious how many miss its obviousness...”

In min 54:34 regarding the question about writing of St Irenaeus from Mango Bango to prove sola scriptura ?????
Here's the quote from the Book III,11.8 ( adv heresies )..."8. It is not possible that the Gospels can be either more or fewer in number than they are. For, since there are four zones of the world in which we live, and four principal winds, while the Church is scattered throughout all the world, and the pillar and ground of the Church is the Gospel and the spirit of life; it is fitting that she should have four pillars, breathing out immortality on every side, and vivifying men afresh..."
Here's he's talking about the 4 Gospels ! not sole infallible source.....
And here is his take on the interpretation of the Scriptures..
    Book IV, 26.5
" Such presbyters does the Church nourish, of whom also the prophet says: I will give your rulers in peace, and your bishops in righteousness. Of whom also did the Lord declare, Who then shall be a faithful steward (actor), good and wise, whom the Lord sets over His household, to give them their meat in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his Lord, when He comes, shall find so doing. Paul then, teaching us where one may find such, says, God has placed in the Church, first, apostles; secondly, prophets; thirdly, teachers. Where, therefore, the gifts of the Lord have been placed, there it behooves us to learn the truth, [namely,] from those who possess that succession of the Church which is from the apostles, and among whom exists that which is sound and blameless in conduct, as well as that which is unadulterated and incorrupt in speech. For these also preserve this faith of ours in one God who created all things; and they increase that love [which we have] for the Son of God, who accomplished such marvellous dispensations for our sake: and they expound the Scriptures to us without danger, neither blaspheming God, nor dishonouring the patriarchs, nor despising the prophets."
So basically the Church/Presbyters in this case have the teaching authority concerning Scriptures !!
But if you want to twist any quotes to support your belief in sola scriptura, you certainly can !
And remember that all heretics also use Scriptures to support their theologies ( St Vincent of Lerins )
    God bless

Comparing holy scripture, that is inspired and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work (2 tim 3:16), to a constitution while rejecting its sufficiency and calling the body an institution... note 1: Jesus and the Apostles condemned the exegesis of the Pharisees and Sadducee that were based on Talmudic Traditions rather than the Law and the Prophets.
note 2: With Sola Scriptura we do make 3 unstated assumptions: that the believer is acting upon right exegesis, and the believer is a rational man, and the scriptures are the word of God.
I would agree Sola Scriptura is a lot like the creeds of Christendom in that they are not scriptures but summaries of ideas taught by scripture. This though I why I would agree to sola scriptura. Creeds and Councils are only as valid as they are subject to the expressed will and word of God, I. The Holy Trinity is the ultimate authority. It's hard to argue for the 5 Solas, without the belief that God is the ultimate authority and it is God that defines our obligations and duties; and it is up to the individual to respond to this by obedience.
    1. Sola Scriptura does have scriptural basis, as an inference from
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
    a) Jesus responses to
    i) Satan's exegesis of Psalm 91, call to worship Satan , call to improperly test God.
ii) Pharisees and Sadducee traditions and the rejection of his messiah-ship. (Mark 7:6-7)
    b) The prophets rebuke to Jews
    i) Isaiah 29:13 (Jesus quoted this in Mark )
    ii)
    c) Stephen's critique of the temple cult of his time (Acts 7)
    d) Judgement of the Man of God from Judah (1 Kings 13-15)
    i) he was mislead by a "prophet" into disobeying God, yet his judgement was accurately predicted by the same source.
ii) My point here is to argue for personal responsibility is not erased when one is misled by leadership
note: this is in addition to the citations of Acts and 2nd Timothy from Trent Horn, and can be used for argue for Prima Scriptura
point: Scripture being used to correct errors in traditions, revaluations, and false "words of God"
    2. Sola Scriptura as a matter of historic necessity
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sola Scriptura is part of the protestant tradition, part of the 5 Solas that are in particular articulated to help protect the individual believer from abuses of Church authority, Church leadership structures, or church traditions. We are subject to these authorities only as far as they are subject to the will and word of God. There was a historical need to clear out the abuses within the church and this was a good heuristic tool. Not all the judgements of the Catholic Magistrum were scripturally valid, how do we sort out which ones are valid before God and which ones are not, without being arbitrary or too dependent on our sensibilities?
    3. Sola Scriptura as a matter of practical reason
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
It serves us well today, I live in a place with people who claim apostleship and prophet hood and deny certain things the bible teaches such as the Trinity. I don't have means to validate or invalidate the "revelations and prophecies" they receive from their visions but I can challenge them by asking how come it doesn't conform with scripture on a particular point or why a particular exegesis fails based on what the text tells us.
    Thought Experiments:
Consider a married Woman that has a dream that she is to marry another man married to someone else, and a church leader approves.
Consider the pope that wants to marry, as apostle Peter did. Is it right for the "church" to demand his celibacy and non-marriage? Is the vow of celibacy required by God from all his servants in ministry? Who then demands it?
Consider all the various bodies that claim "apostolic succession" in the Vatican and in the Eastern, and some African churches; and in some cults; and conflict with one another on various issues of Doctrine? Is it in line with how Apostleship is determined in the new testament, more specifically in the book of acts?
    4. Sola Scriptura as a push towards personal responsibility for learning how to "rightly divide the word of truth"
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Believing that every believer has the Holy Spirit; every Believer can have the Scriptures; and the believers have teach each other as they are guided by the Spirit of God. Considering all that the bible tells us about the scriptures. How do I come to a place that I can rightly divide the word of truth? How can I accurately pick out what is from God; what is from the wisdom of those am learning from; and if what I am learning is indeed from God?
