I find it so hilarious that the bohemians think Christian is some kind of professional ladies man when he actually has no idea what the heck he’s doing.
Nope, he divorced her, with zero warning, and while she was pregnant to boot (she later miscarried the baby) and acted all surprised Pikachu face when people said he was a dick. His loss, Keith Urban's gain.
I have something to say about this scene and the parts before and after, that weren't included in the clip. (Spoiler Warning) I never noticed it thefirst time I watched the movie, but now I can see the bird imagery surrounding Satine (Nicole Kidman). Later in the movie, we hear her express her desire to "fly away" from the Moulin Rouge, and this was hinted at during this scene perfectly. The feathers on Satine's dress were similar to that of a bird's plumage, and the noises she made were very avian, for a lack of a better term. The swing that she sits on, both to enter and exit the hall, are similar to that of a bird's perch in a cage. This expresses the idea that she is a bird, and the Moulin Rouge is her cage. When we see Satine fall from the swing after she is hit with a flare-up of her consumption, this hints at the future of her character. She is a bird falling from its perch, inside its cage. She never gets out of her cage, despite her dreaming. (Phew, this was long. I feel like I'm over-thinking the movie, but I love finding little things like this.)
That's pretty much the reason why most of the Moulin Rouge sequence was cut in the way it was -- with rapid-fire shots which make it impossible to focus on anything (that is, until Satine makes her grand appearance). Christian is a country boy in the big city (one who's most likely unaccustomed to alcohol if the lines from his father earlier in the film is any indication) and there's so much going on all at once at the Moulin Rouge that he's having difficulty taking it all in. Luhrmann uses the same tactic in his version of "The Great Gatsby" with the character of Nick Carraway who (like Christian) is a country boy in the big city.
Everyone’s like “Dang Christian…you gotta gift” and Satine’s doing her thing and Christian’s just like “I’m so lost and confused but I’ll smile to look cute and make it seem like I know what I’m doing…”
Her little mewling noises get irritating very quickly. But when she opens her mouth and Diamonds comes pouring out...dear God I want her to keep going. What a VOICE.
Doing this as a dance production. We had an all day intensive practice yesterday, got pizza and put on the movie(Moulin Rouge). The pizza arrived as this part happened. We all started chanting PIZZA! PIZZA! and the director was cracking up! XD
*Translation for Sparkling Diamonds (Reprise)* *For people who can't understand the first part* Diamonds......Diamonds.....*Square-cut or pear shaped these rocks won't lose their shape*...Diamonds..are a giiirls...beeest...*gasp*
@@SpookyDisneyPrincess I used to think that too before I realized they just kept saying the "tine" part of her name too loudly before saying the "sa" half. It is pretty funny to think they're crying for pizza to come to the show. Who wouldn't want pizza at a party if it had existed back then?
Nicole Kidman was amazing in this movie and I loved it! She did The Others as well another good movie that she was in. Nicole never disappoints. You know she did this movie and just after wrap up Tom Cruise divorces her in 2001. Tom Cruise leaves her and moves out leaving her devastated and yet she managed to go on and get an Oscar for The Hours. She just might get another one for the Destroyer which is created Oscar buzz for the Oscars coming up later in the year of 2019 and I hope she wins another Oscar.
I think it's amazing that she did this movie and "The Others" so close together, because she is SO different in both movies and it just shows you what a good actress she is.
Took me forever to find this. Stuck in 144p-land, but that's okay. I love the halfstep climbing-descending symphonic denouement (or whatever you call it), @02:09 - 02:20
And yet they decided to give the Oscar to Halle Berry for two hours of chewing up the scenery. But at least Berry's post-Oscar career has been so stellar...oh wait....
does anyone know what happened to valeria? she has songs on both legally blonde and moulin rouge's soundtracks but i can't find any other releases by her or anything about her at all
Bardzo lubię Nicole i Podobał mi się film Moulin Rouge, dlatego byłabym uradowana gdyby ktoś zamieścił te filmy muzyczne w poprawionej cyfrowo jakości. Z góry serdecznie dziękuję i pozdrawiam:)
I know its weird, but for me scene when song is started n Satine start dancing its a bit sad, cause I know they will fall in love n she will died, so in this moment I'm so sad for end of their future love. btw I love Moulin Rouge.
It's a CRIME against French food that they're chanting "PIZZA! PIZZA!"and not "BAGUETTE! BAGUETTE!" The Italians should be pleased and flattered though... FREE ADVERTISING! I'm NOT pleased for them DOUGH, I'm just HANGRY now because I cant eat either!! 😆
They said they needed an actress who is part male fantasy and part girl next door. Nicole Kidman did an awesome job, she delivered exactly what they wanted and anyone asking for more would be looking forever. Salma Hayek for sure is seductive and especially for the first scenes where you get to know Satine as this crazy and sexy courtesan she would have done really good. But I think what Salma would have lacked is this wildness, but also how they described it "girl next door"-ishness.
I find it so hilarious that the bohemians think Christian is some kind of professional ladies man when he actually has no idea what the heck he’s doing.
I know right! Like he’s so cute and an artists so they’re like “Oooh the ladies must be all over you” and Christian’s just like “…😳😬 What’s going on?
After seeing Nicole Kidman in this film, more than a few people probably thought Tom Cruise was crazy for divorcing her.
I'm pretty sure she divorced him, and not the other way around, tho
P.S.: just realized this comment is 7 years old, sorry for necro-ing it

Christian is like in whole scene:
"Is this really real?!"

“He has the gift with the women”
Everytime she takes deep breaths I'm shocked

Just wished for the Whole scene, Nicole in the role as Satine's doing, and to the end of the clip;
-and then she falls Down
Lol. I guess.
Took me forever to find this. Stuck in 144p-land, but that's okay. I love the halfstep climbing-descending symphonic denouement (or whatever you call it), @02:09 - 02:20

I miss this movie, and I need to find it to rent or something.
Hello. Nicole Kidman is so beautiful. Evan McGregor is so handsome. This movie is number one to me. Thank you. Goodbye.
You know something funny? For a movie set in Paris there's, like, NO french people anywhere!
Spakawing diamond :)
I thought the exact same thing when I first saw this scene.
Her name is Valeria, and the song she preforms is the Rhythm of the Night and you can actually buy the song!
Another happy landing
25лет назад,я обожала тебя Николь,ты была красива и неповторима.
And yet they decided to give the Oscar to Halle Berry for two hours of chewing up the scenery. But at least Berry's post-Oscar career has been so stellar...oh wait....
Lol
And not even nominating Baz for direction?!?
She's a pretty darn good singer. I'd rather hear her duet with Robbie Williams.
She already has.
So time for some new stuff, then.
Look up her duet with Robbie called "Something Stupid"...great song!
make sure you keep all your videos on youtube forever and don't ever remove them just keep them on youtube forever please that means don't remove them

The song is catchy who is the singer?
i cant find the scene right after she falls, and the guy screams "the show must go on" could anyone help?
The sad thing about this is that she only thought he's the duke that's why she is interested in him😔
Just in the beginning..
What are they chanting in the background at the beginning? All is hear is " Pizza, pizza, pizza, pizza,..)
Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor later joined the DCEU. Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna. Ewan McGregor as RomanSionis/BlackMask.
At 1:27 Kidman looks just like 1960's Ann-Margret...if you are unsure who Ann-Margret is..google her. Was majorly hot..same as Ms. Kidman!
.....Friend.
does anyone know what happened to valeria? she has songs on both legally blonde and moulin rouge's soundtracks but i can't find any other releases by her or anything about her at all
Am I the only one here after RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 and all the El Debarge thing?
What are the lyrics to that reprise? I can't tell what she's singing :(
Bardzo lubię Nicole i Podobał mi się film Moulin Rouge, dlatego byłabym uradowana gdyby ktoś zamieścił te filmy muzyczne w poprawionej cyfrowo jakości. Z góry serdecznie dziękuję i pozdrawiam:)

Uhm... I wonder who is the group who makes the first song "the rythm of the night"?? ^_^
It's by a Valeria.
+Talia SanchezOriginal was by Debarge!
Yes the original is, but the version they used in the movie is by Valeria.
:D
Why doesn't Nicole Kidman sing more?
@snggdsyreus thanks but I already know about that.
I think Salma Hayek could've also played Satine as well but Nicole Kidman was iconic in this role anyway.

She's terminally ill with 'consumptional' - tuberculosis as you see through the movie.
Tuberculosis, which was fatal up until the early 20th Century.

HAHAHAHAHAHA
I don't like the ending.
My god, this movie is horrid..
Like your comment? 😂
For everyone who's wondering where to find the part in which Satine falls from the trapeze😉:
