Here is my take on motor journalists and Chinese car reviews. They have a tendency to be biased compared to other brands. I'm gatvol also about comparisons made between old established brands and new brands when it comes to after sales service. It takes time to build an infrastructure in a country so give them time. The main issue in South Africa is that customers do not want to try new products. It's ironic people are brand conscious when it comes to certain things made in China ( cars) but tell that same person that his iPhone which cost $20 to make in China which he paid R40 000 for then they have no issue with China. How is it also possible that cars like Haval and Chery are huge sellers in South Africa but very few Chinese cars make it onto any "Car of the Year" lists. We all know that these so called competitions are biased towards established brands but do the maths and you see why it's not a fair comparison. It's like in "OLD" South Africa why was the government not building and investing in public transport or underground systems. It's because the old "verkramte" corrupt officials were getting kickbacks from the car manufacturers. So build roads and establish suburbs outside the city because you will need to buy a car to get to work. I think it's great that the Chinese are here and at least the established brands can now be more competitive with their prices. Look at trends people. VW one of the most expensive brands in in South Africa Germany are cutting jobs and downsizing back in Germany. Ask yourself why? These established brands have dominated for to long and now the Chinese have allowed more people to enter the car market with competitive prices. FYI - GAC has had a long affiliation with Honda & Toyota back in China long before 2008 so they not new to manufacturing. Their own brand came out in 2008. Let's be more open minded to new brands since it also allows people who can't afford those yuppie brands to get into the car market.
Jacob said that there's nothing sporty about the car offering 130 kw but when the Ford Fiesta ST was driven we heard questions not statements with just 134 kw and 240 Nm that was meant to compete with the Polo GTi.. Why not pair it next to a T-Roc with the price and even offerings.
Have to agree with you Jacob but we must bare in mind some cars have a "sport pack" with upgrades only visually but the motor is usually the same. Going for that niche sporty market on a budget.
Salvador Caetano really needs to reconsider their pricing strategy for the GAC cars! Many people are going to sway towards the more established brands at the R500k+ mark. GAC's prices are simply not competitive at all! If they keep at it like this we might see the brand pulling out of South Africa sooner than expected
Warranty, after sales, parts, dealer network, reliability, resale. 😂. There is a lot more to owning a car than just the retail. I would rather buy less VW or Toyota than a Chinese import.
With this car I'm convinced the Chinese can make us a Cyril Ramaphosa with Zuma's charm, Mbeki's economic acumen, Mandela's Statesmanship whilst keeping him as a master government deregulator!
So they copied and pasted Peugeot and Nissan Magnite then put those trying exhausts and the R badge then overpriced it Chinese think we are all from Australia neh 🤔😂
All these cars are way overpriced for such small new untested and unknown vehicles. 500k you can get a very good used Kia Sportage CRDI, Sorento, Tucson, Honda CRV. Very reliable trouble free SUVs, you can even get them for 350k. The problem is our obsession with brand new vehicles.
Chinese cars are good looking but I am rather scared of their longevity ,their engines will convince us whether to buy or not ,In this part of the world,we are in third world country maybe the electronics might give up on a gravel road,it happened to one HAVAL winds going up and down as he drives on a gravel everyday to school,he final went back to his trusted TAZZ
The Chinese are flooding our market. The legacy manufacturers who have made huge investments in our country, employing thousands of South Africans, are not protected by our government. In the long run it could cost us loss of jobs, and eventual disinvestment. I doubt that these vehicles have gone through the same rigorous research and development that the legacy manufacturers employ when developing their vehicles. Eventually you will get what you pay for.
😂😂😂 legacy auto has been making their cars in china for 3 decades… the Chinese literally know what works and what doesn’t … What they are not good at figuring out how to segment their products and how to market their brands properly. But technically they are on the ball
@ not exclusively. Ford, BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen and others manufacture some of their models here, even for export. I hope to see Chinese manufacturers invest in SA by building some factories here and employing South Africans to build their cars. I am also interested to see their second hand values after 5 years. Still waiting to be convinced of the quality under the skin. Time will tell.
These Chineese cars with their funny names are nice when new like all Chineese products......watch when the start aging....and a car manufacturer that's just a few years old.....no thank you....
I can't believe you compared it to old lady cars like that ugly Captur. Personally, i think they're trying to take a little market share from the likes of the VW T-Roc with a lot of kit and a much reasonable price.
By the way; you're doing a great job Jacob! I started watching this channel avidly because of you!

I couldn't have said it better
I appreciated your honest review, not just trying to 'sell' the car to us. We need more of that 🤙🏻

I will always call it "Gak" as a single word.
And your friends will always make fun of you and call it another word that rhymes with Gak...
I see what you did there🤭
We need a review of this Chinese cars from a “kasi gents” point of view

😂😂Laughed as well
😂😂😂😂😂
I like how it looks but it is out my price range so never an option
Only issue will be parts availability but this car looks wonderful
Paraphrasing from the 80's and 90's: "Uno't jy Gak gekoop!".
Who services this brand in SA?
Like buying a BMW 318 with M sport... People do it all the time
It won't be around by 2030.
Looks a bit like a Mazda from behind. Emzoom-zoom
Nice car Jacob look like 3008 Peugeot
Warranty, after sales, parts, dealer network, reliability, resale. 😂. There is a lot more to owning a car than just the retail. I would rather buy less VW or Toyota than a Chinese import.
Jacob dat car looks good...im sure in person its more nicer looking
It's not bad yona coz atleast it comes with extras rather than paying alot for em
Nice design. I belive is overpriced as a new kid in the block. It should have started pha ko R329k to get more customers.
Very confusing review! Is the ride quality good or not? Performance? 0 to 100 km/h? Priced similar to Tiggo 7. How does it handle bad roads?
Great Car to drive But... No manual mode on the gearbox ,No paddle shifters... sensitive accelerator is the most annoying
The first look however at the front looks like Volvo
Tell GAC to bring hatchbacks 😢...to compete with polos and golf.
With this car I'm convinced the Chinese can make us a Cyril Ramaphosa with Zuma's charm, Mbeki's economic acumen, Mandela's Statesmanship whilst keeping him as a master government deregulator!
😂😂
That Gkak is new and expensive and lost in the market
Easy on the eye
Can even buy you a second hand 3 series g80
Lol half a million😂. What are these people smoking?

Where is CIRO?? We miss De Siena.
Coming soon to an internet near you...

So they copied and pasted Peugeot and Nissan Magnite then put those trying exhausts and the R badge then overpriced it Chinese think we are all from Australia neh 🤔😂
Hey..what car do you drive... Ckak😂

Looks like a Peugeot, Lexus and Volvo at the same time. Looks pretty good honestly speaking!
Quirky throttle = unrefined. Consistent Chinese car feedback. Unrefined
I saw this Chinese gti😂😂😂
You can buy a 2021 X3 for that price rofl
Hayi!! Not4Me...

The 1.5T engine is getting boring for a "new" chinese brand. Feels like they all share the same engines
Jacob this car is overpriced😮
...so where is Ciro?
Coming soon to an internet near you...
That amount is too much for that car.
These Chineese cars with their funny names are nice when new like all Chineese products......watch when the start aging....and a car manufacturer that's just a few years old.....no thank you....
Chinese are giving value for money. These level 2 ADAS features will come with an extra 100k with these other brands
In the beginning the Chinese cars were impressive for what the offered, now it’s just more of the same same…..it’s becoming boring…
I can't believe you compared it to old lady cars like that ugly Captur. Personally, i think they're trying to take a little market share from the likes of the VW T-Roc with a lot of kit and a much reasonable price.
Peugeot 5008 or Renault Captur 😂
This is one of those that will disappear in 5 years..
Unfortunately. and the only reason is because of it's outrageous pricing!
Ingene imali la cars dot khoza from shayina. Yey!!!!!
