1. Meat and Fish • Sardinians consume more meat and fish, especially on Sundays, contributing to their high Omega-3 intake, which is linked to longevity and cardiovascular health. 2. Nuts (Almonds, Pistachios, Walnuts) • High in polyunsaturated fats and Omega-3s, particularly walnuts, which may help balance Omega-6 intake and support heart health. 3. Goat Milk • Easier to digest than cow’s milk and has a beneficial fat profile, potentially less inflammatory and supports better body composition. 4. Pecorino Romano Cheese • Aged goat cheese that is easier to digest and provides C15 fatty acid, which may protect against insulin resistance. 5. Chickpeas and Fava Beans • Rich in soluble fibers that enhance metabolic health and support a diverse microbiome by feeding beneficial gut bacteria. 6. Mastic Oil • Unique to Sardinia, this oil is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, beneficial for cholesterol levels. 7. Unique Red Wine • High in antioxidants due to its cultivation at higher altitudes, potentially counteracting some negative effects of alcohol. 8. The diet in the Ogliastra region of Sardinia, a Blue Zone, is notable for its emphasis on traditional, plant-based foods and local ingredients. Key aspects include: • Vegetables and Fruits: A large portion of the diet consists of fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruits, often grown locally. • Legumes: Beans, lentils, and chickpeas are staple sources of protein. • Whole Grains: Whole grains like barley and wheat are commonly consumed. • Olive Oil: Extra-virgin olive oil is used as the primary fat in cooking and dressing. • Nuts: Almonds and walnuts are included for their healthy fats and nutrients. • Cheese: Pecorino Sardo, a traditional sheep’s milk cheese, is frequently consumed in moderation. • Meat: While meat is eaten, it is typically in small quantities and more commonly in the form of pork or lamb, often prepared for special occasions. • Fish: Fish is consumed less frequently but still forms part of the diet. • Wine: Moderate consumption of red wine, often produced locally, is common. • Herbs and Spices: Meals are seasoned with fresh herbs and spices, adding flavor and health benefits.

Dear Thomas, 2 things that are incorrect in the video. Pecorino cheese is from sheep milk (pecora is the italian word for sheep) and mastic grows almost 100% in Greece and more specifically in Chios island. Apart from this the info and the video is very useful
In the days when the centenarians of the Blue Zones of the Mediterranean were young there was very little refrigeration. Goats were only slaughtered on religious feast days when people all gathered together, otherwise they were kept only for making goats cheese, which was eaten in moderation with sourdough bread, beans, olives and vegetables. That eating pattern has changed since the spread of refrigeration, and we have yet to see how that effects longevity.

The primary reason the region of Sardinia that makes up the Sardinian blue zone has such a high life expectancy is their highly satisfying life, which includes lifelong moderate exercise (herding, etc). Followed by a very clean diet. With all this talk of C15 and better European health, is it time to consider that, rather than eating butter and other saturated fats as being something Europeans are getting away with. Instead, Butter and other saturated fats may be contributing to European's better health. C15 is found in high levels in many of the foods Sardinians eat. Cheese of all types, butter, fully fatted whole milk/yogurt, sardines/mackerel, and many red meats are all good sources of C15. C15 is so easily included in the Western diet that we can blame government admonitions against certain food choices for any under consumption. Also, A2 milk protein is prominent in many dairy Cow herds in parts Europe as well.
Before I watch this... I'm hoping SARDINES (among other things). Thomas literally got me eating sardines - they are so good for us and SO SUSTAINABLE for future humans (the people we rarely if ever consider)
Totally agree. Old people are not put in homes with strangers with families visiting only when they can. They are part of the community and are valued for what they still have to offer. It's a combination of fresh seasonal food, keeping on the move, having a purpose, being spiritual and being a part of a community that cares for you
I'm a Floridian. I stopped eating bread several years ago. I would love to try a good sourdough bread every now and then, however. Any suggestions? I realize European bread is generally better than American, but there MUST be something relatively wholesome in the States.
I would like to know your opinion on Dr. Axe’s multi collagen brand. I’m not sure if you’ve already reviewed dr. Hey there, what do u think about hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds and pea-riceprotein? ....it is really natural and I would rather eat such a protein instead of chickpeas...what you think?
Congratulations Thomas. You actually went to Europe and saw some of the lifestyles (even if it's impossible to see all of them as they are very different). One thing that really annoys me is when the media portray the area completely wrong just to fit a narrative. You saw it for yourself and realised some things you had wrong, like bread consumption and looked objectively why it might work. That deserves a lot of props because most people do not have that integrity. I still think that some of the ideas and notions are not 100% reflective but it's ok, you can't learn about every lifestyle in Europe, and some of it probably comes from the twisted views of some of your guests and their own biases. An example is Polish food. That guest was the first time I ever heard anyone say that Polish food is notorious for low quality and I lived in multiple countries in Europe. My experience of food in Poland is the absolute opposite. But then again, that's probably because it's fairly easy to get locally grown food rather than the supermarket stuff when you live there as opposed to the exported foods abroad.
Sardinians are primarily pesco-veg. They eat a lot of fish, shell fish, dairy, legumes, nuts, fruits, and veggies. Meat is usually on sunday dinner. Pretty smart diet imo.

I bought Dr. Gundry’s C-15 supplement for my husband, but he consumes a fair bit of dairy (raw, all-Jersey, A2) and various cheeses that are not from raw dairy (smoked Gouda and French Brie), so I have come to the conclusion that he does not need a C-15 supplement, so I don’t plan to re-order. I myself consume so much raw dairy that there is no way that I would need C-15!

Yeah, I thought I was missing something! My local Italian deli sells pecorino romano as a sheep-milk cheese; in fact, I'm sensitive to the after-taste of goat cheese, so I should have picked up on it. Maybe there is sheep- AND goat-milk pecorino??
@@CatherineHurley-wk8efyou can make any cheese with any type of milk you like. However, pecorino means sheep in Italian so he should be saying a pecorino Romano like cheese made with goats milk.
Excellent discussion
I was just saying that I was craving sardines, and here you are with a video on Sardinia
Before I watch this... I'm hoping SARDINES (among other things). Thomas literally got me eating sardines - they are so good for us and SO SUSTAINABLE for future humans (the people we rarely if ever consider)
Very well explained!
Various studies have shown that the main factor for life expectancy, longevity is NOT FOOD,
but COMMUNITY, ACTIVE PARTICIPATION and APPRECIATION.
Totally agree. Old people are not put in homes with strangers with families visiting only when they can. They are part of the community and are valued for what they still have to offer. It's a combination of fresh seasonal food, keeping on the move, having a purpose, being spiritual and being a part of a community that cares for you
Yes. Fresh air, sunlight, love of community, low stress (low population pressure), high daily exercise via manual work. They all add up.
And that's why I'm screwed.
Nope. Next time provide some sources, facts etc. Capslocks only show you’re a bit loony.
The clue is in the name: sardines (Sardinia). Did not know about the walnut thing there.
Top tier longevity content
what hair product do you use? great texture
Do chocolate ice cream malts count as dairy? I need to lose wait, weight 🥴😤
I'm a Floridian. I stopped eating bread several years ago. I would love to try a good sourdough bread every now and then, however. Any suggestions? I realize European bread is generally better than American, but there MUST be something relatively wholesome in the States.
You can but Italian flour and make it yourself quite easily would be the best way!
Love this video. I’m on the fence about sardines but I know I need to get them in my diet.
I would like to know your opinion on Dr. Axe’s multi collagen brand. I’m not sure if you’ve already reviewed dr. Axe’s products, but the multi collagen is one of my favorite collagen supplements because it has collagen sourced from various animal products like fish, eggs, chicken, beef (all grass fed and wild caught fish), and he also makes a multi collagen from supplement from bovine organs (all grass fed). Highly recommend it, it does make a difference in your diet.
Pecorino romano is made from sheep's milk. ("pecora" = "sheep"). I imagine sheep milk has a similar profile to goat milk.
A bit of a theme in this video. Roquefort is also sheep not goat.
Grazie!
Goats milk is about 4-4.5% fat, sheep 6-6.5. Sheeps milk makes much better cheese (I’m a cheesemaker) than goats milk.
On Your video's,your verbal explanations i.e.Less 'speed talking' are Getting Slower/Less complicated/EASIER TO FOLLOW/UNDERSTAND,Etc;Thomas!!.... :)
Good information.

Hey there, what do u think about hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds and pea-riceprotein? ....it is really natural and I would rather eat such a protein instead of chickpeas...what you think?
Pecorino Romano is from Rome area, in Sardegna they have their own taste very different and greater same type of milk but not the same of Romano
It's not Pecorino Romano, it's called Pecorino Sardo
They're the same, both made in Sardinia.
What do you think about einkorn
Tommy Boy is the Best!!! 🙏✝️🤴😄👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
But then again, that's probably because it's fairly easy to get locally grown food rather than the supermarket stuff when you live there as opposed to the exported foods abroad.
is white sourdough better than wholemeal sourdough?
My cats eat a tin of Sardines once a week. Packed in water, no salt added. 😺 Happy Purrsday!
you should quantify the amount of meat vs fish per week....bc americans will interpret this as 12 oz per day
Sardinian Franco Columbu is one my favorite bodybuilders! RIP, Franco.
I didn't like that other chesse you suggested but worth a try
Sardinians? Ya' mean like Dr. Boz? I think all she eats is sardines. Heh.
😂😂😂😂 truth
Sardinians are primarily pesco-veg. They eat a lot of fish, shell fish, dairy, legumes, nuts, fruits, and veggies. Meat is usually on sunday dinner. Pretty smart diet imo.
It's based on minerals in the ground where the food is growing
Thanks Thomas 😊
Chick peas and Fava beans - answer to the question “which types of legume and bean in America are highest in the herbicide glyphosate”. See Stephanie Seneff’s lecture “Toxic Legacy”.
When I lived there, I saw them eating more Percorino Sardo, than Romano, and I'd suggest the word Romano means it's not Sardinian in origin
as mentioned previously....Pecorino Sardo!
What’s wrong with almonds?
Very interesting
Bro happiness among mens dammmmmmm... must be really nice there.
You forgot about Casu Martzu! ~LOL
Pecorino romano is at best made of a combination of sheep and goat's milk, more often from sheep's milk alone (pecora is sheep in Italian). Roquefort is definitely made of sheep's milk not goat's milk. Tks for your videos anyway
Thank you
One major point, in Sardinia, they walk a lot and the beach is always near.
I thought the heading read sardines, so I grabebd a can of sardines from the fridge to eat. I usually eat a can of sardines before most meals.
Can you do a dive into Georgian food? They claim to have some of the oldest people on the planet and attribute their health to their matzoni (yoghurt) cultures. I would love for your to fact check as well as share their lovely diet which is incidentally high in walnuts and red wine.
Doesn't aged cheese have more Advanced Glycation End-Products, relative to less-aged cheese?
Hmm interesting, never heard that. I know it has some great things like vitamin k.
@@geraldfriend256 Even if I'm correct above, it could very well be that the benefits of this aged Pecorino Romano outweigh the negatives of the A.G.E.s
What about the corsicans
Pecorino Romano means pecorino from Rome
They also drink a lot of red wine - Salute!
It would be disappointing that Sardinians didn't eat sardines. What a scam 😅
pecorino is made of sheep milk ("pecora" is the sheep)
Their sheep cheese is great.
PECORINO is cheese made from the milk of "PECORE".. i.e. SHEEP. Pecorino simply means "sheep's milk cheese.'
Yeah, they make some around Rome ("romano"), but in Sardinia their Pecorino is by definition "SARDO".
What is the second cheese he names after pecarino romano? 3:43
ALSO, Thomas it would be so helpful to give an idea of how much of something to eat to get the kind of benefits being alluded to. How much C15 is in 1 ounce of Pecarino? Is that enough, or should it be consumed every day?
From where I belong our supermarkets only have salmon labelled as “Norwegian salmon” or “Chilean Salmon”. Pretty sure all of these are farmed so n-3s are kinda a problem here
Yeah Norwegian farmed salmon is *nasty* .
@@eddiegrant58 life is bad man there’s only farmed salmon here where I live. For wild caught, it’s very rare to find and even if I do, it costs an equivalent of like USD40 per pound of salmon
It’s sheep milk/cheese, not goat
It’s pecorino sardo/ not romano
Dolphins weren't eating enough cheese? Where were dolphins naturally getting their dairy?
I have celiac disease. I dream of real sourdough bread.
I cured mine. Took about 3 years on low Vit A diet. Look up Nutrition Detective on RUclips for more info.
For everyone reading this, finding the banned book called “the hidden herbs” by anette ray should be your top priority
No mention of taking the pecorino cheese and making it into casu martzu i.e maggot cheese. Maybe that's an additional secret.
I've heard of casu martzu. I'll happily grant the Sardinians the exclusive right to eat that cheese, and wouldn't touch it even with pliers let alone have some of it. 🤮
Even for a million $$$ ?
The Sardinians are the descendents of giants who lived long ages. There is a documentary on it by Timothy Alberino. That's why they live long
LOL I saw a documentary on them and they claim to be Spartans even though they're considered to be Italian. They also speak a Greek dialect. Somehow I have more faith in that than Giants. Remember, the giant that David slew was 6'1 in today's measurements.
@@juliantreidiii Wrong. I know a family that found a giant skeleton 12 feet and they still have the newspaper clippings
Sardines?
Who told him to do that with his hair?
Spoilers: They were incorrect.
I am sardinian......wtf is Mastic Oil????
I would assume its from the pistachio lentiscus or mastic tree that grows wild there. I understand that oil and resins are made from the tree byt apparently not that common lol.
@@dracodempseyeisenhart3804 I can assure you that the only "original" oil we ever used in Sardinia was olive oil (long standing tradition of olive trees even in the wild) and pork lard. There is no other fat we use. Tea as well is associated with people being sick and this tea he talks about is nowhere in our tradition. We usually feasted in week ends as family get together, usually evening would be light with soup and the rest would be variations on the theme pork/goat/sheep, bread, cheese, onions. Veggies are used but not as mainstay and simply dependent on what was available seasonally.
I thought you said these people were happy! I ate a lot of fava beans and chickpeas. How can they be happy after that?
Good thing you didn't mention their Casu Marzu 😅😅😅
Bean salads bro.
Pecora is Italian for sheep. I get that they would make goat cheese but why would they call it sheep cheese ? Capra is a goat. Something doesn't add up.
Pecorino Romano is sheep's milk not goat hence the name Pecorino
Is Flax a good way of getting Omega 3s? I am allergic to fish.
Look into the algae being sold for omega 3s. I take it in a pill from Nordic naturals. Flax is a good source, too. Flax bread eating was mentioned in the Bible. So, it's an ancient grain. Hopefully, you can take the algae.
@Kevin_Agapao Yes, Omega 3, 6 and 9:s are present in Flax and flaxseed-oil. You can also find omega 3:s in algae. Look at different brands and do not just take the first or the cheaper or cheapest brand.
You need to do a bit of research on how much you need to take to help and alleviate your specific issues.
I take 3000-4000 mg flaxseed - oil daily. I try to heal myself from several issues, that is why I take that amount.
Pecorino Romano is NOT goat’s milk, it’s sheep milk. Pecora = sheep, Thomas
I drink a quart of goat's milk daily.
"Physionic" and Dr. Brad Stanfield have each recently debunked C:15.
