    My question is, does the amount of omega 6 we eat affect how our bodies use EPA/DHA and is it therefore wise to limit omega 6 in our diet or does it not matter? Thanks for the video!

    • @jakubchrobry3701
      @jakubchrobry3701 Месяц назад +1

      High levels of omega 6 are thought to lower the conversion of ALA to EPA and DHA. I have heard of no reason why omega 6 would interfere with the body's use of EPA/DHA. What I do is consume high level of ALA vs others fats for breakfast and lunch (flax and chia) so that I might get good conversion to EPA/DHA. For dinner I eat foods higher in MUFA like almonds and higher in omega 6 like tofu and walnuts. I then have a EPA/DHA supplement with dinner. I also prefer a supplement which is higher in DHA because DHA is more import for the brain and central nervous system than EPA.
      Note: Walnuts have a ratio of 4:1 for omega-6 to omega-3, so I don't consider it an optimal source for ALA.

    • @Pipananda1
      @Pipananda1 Месяц назад

      @@jakubchrobry3701 Thanks - I thought I heard somewhere that Omega 6's and 3's compete somehow. I can't eat most nuts or seeds due to tyramine being a migraine trigger, but I do use certain nut oils.

    • @zacharyshort384
      @zacharyshort384 Месяц назад +1

      It's all about the ratio. Higher omega 6 consumption will demand higher omega 3 consumption. So, ideally, you want to lower omega 6 consumption as it's almost too high in a Western diet.

    This is a fantastic video however it would be muuch more useful, in my personal opinion, if you could make a comparison between taking Fish Oil supplements vs *eating fish*. How much EPA/DHA do we get from eating cooked fresh fist of variousd forms, vs raw fish (shushi and sashimi) vs canned fish. Many people, myself included, do consume a lot fo fish regularly so how does 100g of eating various forms of fish compare to supplements.. Does farmed fish vs. ocean caught make a difference? Can one get "too much" EPA/DHA if eating fresh fish weekly and taking fish oil supplements? Has any significant research been done on this? Great video btw

    • @zacharyshort384
      @zacharyshort384 Месяц назад +1

      Raw will be the best all things considered. You always loose nutrients in the cooking process, and processed foods [canned] will always have additives. Farmed vs wild of course matters as farmed will have a less diverse diet and higher mercury content. There is concern with too high of consumption but it's easier to do that with supplementation [I assume]. I'd say stick to 2g or less fish oil a day with supps.

Obviously this is not a high enough dose.There is 1600mgof fish oil as well as1000mg flaxseed oil. They claim that their product is pharmaceutical grade “advanced omega-3 supplement.” I have been taking this product for a number of years which has helped my dry eyes. I’ve used Carlson in the past as well. I would think that if my supplement was rancid, there would be a side effect of burping that awful fishy taste which I’ve never experienced with this supplement. It contains vit e )d-alpha -tocopheryl acetate) @ 122.6mg per serving I’m assuming as a preservative . It’s reasonably priced at approx $14 per90ct . The only problem is that taken as recommended is only 1.2grams. I usually take them in the evening with my largest meal even though it is recommended to take in the morning.
