I think you should always have a spare set of sheets and a couple extra blankets! My dear cat Charlie as he got older would have an accident on my bed, and I would be changing out bedding in the middle of the night, and having a full set of bedding including a backup comforter to swap out really helps. In addition to that my husband has been ill in the night a couple of times and again, the second set really helps. Instead of having a "spare set" that never sees use or that is ugly, I have a heavier bedding set for winter and a lighter one for summer, both of which I really enjoy, and I just use the out of season one if needed for emergency. Your kitty on the pillow is so precious!
I am AMAZED that you still have items to declutter. I’ve watched your minimalism game declutter videos a number of times and you seemed to have so little after each pass.
Excellent declutter motivation! Also, I just realized the main reason I find your videos so soothing to watch (besides literally everything about them being soothing) is that the visual humor in the way you film, and your occasional witty text comments, mean that I have to put my damn phone down and give them my full, undivided attention. Thank you for this moment of zen!
The enjoyment for me is the fact there is NO screaming techno music and NO sped up shots. Those decluttering videos give me a headache. I love watching her pick up things and talk us through the process. I am calmer and inspired after watching.
I 1000% agree with this. I always try to multi task when putting her videos on if I want to declutter myself but then get so sucked in to just sitting on the floor watching the whole video without any visual interruption that I then forget I had a box in front of me to go through. So I might watch the video again after I had once while doing the task I had planned in the first place. Her videos are so motivating but captures the audience entirely in her explainations. And yes I love the witty and humor she adds with out going over the top.
I love watching your videos and decluttering phases because you have such a great way of explaining to the point why your making decisions to let go without over explaining or over justifying. I appreciate how articulate you are and the process of showing us your thinking or concerns on things your not ready to let go quit yet but on things your preparing yourself to let go possibly in the future. It amazes me what things you still find to get rid of with already having so little. I strive to get to where you and your husband are and honing in on the sensitivity of seeing clutter. I definitely have problems with sticking things in drawers where the out of sight out of mind is a huge factor, but I struggle with not wanting to use containers that are always see through because I don't want to see everything. I know that might not make too much sense but I'm having a hard time meeting in the middle of those 2 things. Any tips? Also, I would love to see a video on the ways you responsibly donate things during the pandemic and even a video on any hobbies you have or picked up during quarantine and how that has added or changed any minamalism or organization factors? I think that could be a fun one. Thanks so much for all you do, I seriously love your videos and if you wrote a book or work book I would 100% invest in it.
My husband still has plastic drawer thingies in his closet for all his tshirts (which he still had and used even before we got rid of the dresser; he has way more clothes than me). Anyway, he has decluttered a bit too, and enough that the nightstands work for us--just wanted to toss in that caveat.
I find these videos so relaxing to watch, and inspiring to declutter. I have bought a lot of stuff online while being in isolation i need to get rid of things again.
I realize I said I want a tray but then also got rid of a tray; however the black, ceramic tray is not big enough for what I'd like to keep on the console AND I want something wooden happening on that side of the room to warm it up. Right now it's just black and white and gold, so it feels too stark. Thanks for looking out though!
I keep two sets of guest pillows so guests can choose their favorite and/or use two each if they want. There is a reason nicer hotels have multiple non-decorative pillows on the beds. It's so there are options. So my suggestion is to just put the queen and king pillows on the guest bed at the same time.
I already have two sets of king pillows (one firm set, one squishy), but I'm considering just using one set of king pillows, one set of queen, and maybe an accent or two. Or one set of king and three or so euro pillows... who knows. I'm more concerned about getting my living room throw pillow situation sorted before moving on to guest room linens, but it'll eventually be higher on my list. But yes, point taken, I do want my guests to have options.
This is what I call real decluttering unlike most other videos where they say they declutter and want to be minimalist but end up is just... Organized mess
At this point, for me and my personal practice of minimalism, it's all about maintenance at this point, but that still takes a bit of work every now and then. All the best to you too!
Hi! Great video as always, thanks for sharing. Just a suggestion regarding the use of a compression sack for the winter duvet, if your duvet is made from synthetic or goose down, by storing it compressed it dramatically reduces its' lifespan. This is because the down doesn't have room to expand like normal and is crushed throughout time. I have a down jacket which I always store uncompressed for this reason. Best wishes.
This was so satisfying! You don't have much stuff and you were able to get rid of so much. I'm at the same point and it feels so good! Living with less is so much easier.
I love your videos. Normally I fast forward through these types of videos but I find myself watching the whole of your videos. Maybe it's your voice? Maybe it's how calm you sound? I don't know but keep making videos!
Ha! Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Now I kind of want to string together a bunch of outtakes where I stutter and fumble, but I'm pretty sure you can't monetize videos with profanity.
For me and my own practice of minimalism, it's all about maintenance at this point, so I don't think that's super feasible, but I appreciate the compliment all the same!
Your videos always motivate me to keep up with my decluttering practice =) I believe minimalism has helped me deal with the pandemic much better than if I hadnt adopted this life style.
Yaaaasssss, do it! I not-so-secretly envy anyone staying home right now that doesn't have to keep working. I feel like I'm working more now that I'm WFH. If you've got time on your hands, take full advantage of it!
Thank u so much. Watched ur video late last nite. Did more organizing & decluttering today than in past 6 wks. I love how Everythg looks. Thanks for the Great Motivation!!😍
I got so excited when this video popped up! I’m very unmotivated right now but these videos always help. I have always loved that tumbleweed in your videos, I hope you find it a good home!
Thanks for the decluttering encouragement. I really enjoy your video style. I think for this round I will do a May declutter challenge. I have decluttered a fair bit already but I’ll see how far I get.
Glad someone said it lol. Keep the iPhone bricks even if you don’t use them you can sell the older ones (but definitely keep the newer one and I would actually switch to using that one.)
We had a late night mess happen, and I was so glad we had an extra set of sheets! I would love to know what skincare you use! That’s been my goal this quarantine time-to improve my skin.
Love your style and organization. Great video as always and especially love the appearances from your precious fur baby! She's so cute it almost hurts lol
Always enjoy your videos I feel like i use the same thought process when I declutter. This also gave me motivation to look through a few of my spaces and was able to find some things that I don't use any longer.
The issue that I am having is that there is currently no way to donate items! I have been storing somethings for donating in the back of our mini van until the local thrift opens back up!
Two nights this week, my doggy got sick and threw up in our bed. I was very, very appreciative of our spare sheet set. I gotta side with your husband on that one lol! Thanks for the motivation! Your home is beautiful :)
Dani usually only pukes when she eats too quickly, so most of the time that only happens on our kitchen floor, but she did once cough up a hairball on the blanket at the end of our bed... Team spare-sheets wins!
Hi Thank you so so amazingly much for going into details what you are decluttering and why. I would have switched off if you weren’t like that. Instead you have a new subscriber! 😎
i love the aesthetic of your home 😍the mix of iron, gold, and marble is beautiful. btw when you had those 2 diamond shaped trays on the bed, i thought the lens had gone wonky and that they were square trays squished by the lens 😂that hurt my brain
Ooof, sorry! They're diamond shaped. The gold one is still in my trunk, but seeing them sat like two diamonds next to each other in the video made me think "Oh, those look like a double black diamond (as in skiing)" and kind of made me want to keep the gold one as a ski joke, but I really don't think I need the gold one. My husband vetoed getting rid of the black one because we have one little rolling shelf in our guest bath that is lacquered wood (IKEA that we put on casters), so he wanted something on it so guests don't leave wet or otherwise messy things on the shelves.
I bought them from a local furniture dealer, but they're made by this company: www.archboldfurniture.com/item/3-drawer-nightstand-wide/6323d-p They don't sell direct to consumers, but you can use their "Dealer locator" tool to see if you can buy from someone in your area.
Welcome to decluttering club! The first rule about decluttering club is absolutely do talk about it. The second is that new people have to declutter something. None of that is actually true, but welcome all the same!
Vested Interests lol loved this! I have been decluttering like crazy these past few weeks as we are moving! 😊❤️ thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to more great content!
i hate the visual clutter of tissue boxes, but need them all the time, so i compromised by getting acrylic tissue boxes which i put the tissues into and toss the box to keep things more aesthetically pleasing.
We have a shed-like-thing attached to our house that I regrettably referred to as our "storage unit" in one video. People thought I was renting a storage unit and I had to make quick amends--it's really just our shed. ANYWAY, my husband has been such a sport about all of my other decluttering that I haven't put up a fight about all of the camping gear that he keeps in there, even though we haven't been camping in years... That bit, at least, we've put to good use!
The scunci hosiery type of hair ties don’t seem to die like that. I love them! The only reason I recently had to repurchase if because I lost some and gave some to my sister. I hope whoever found my lost ones are thoroughly enjoying them...
...As in "inspired by pantyhose"? I had long hair for most of my life, but shorter hair more recently and it's only growing out because I can't get a hair cut right now, so I'm a little bit out of the game, but I'll look them up, thanks!
I really appreciate the way you keep @ it. Your really tidy. You are a neatfreak...& that's a good thing. Why do we accumulate so much, when we are trying NOT to? I keep getting "gifts" from people who want donations, such as notepads & return address labels. I must have 2 lifetime supplies. Really, people? Anywho...your doing super. Do you donate your items you no longer want?
You're not the first person to ask, but I don't really keep anything in my car to declutter. I have an emergency pair of sunglasses, a roll of camping toilet paper that I impulse bought at the checkout counter of an REI because it seemed like a good idea (I've had it for years and never used it, thankfully), and some shopping bags in the back seat... I'll think on it, but it might be more of a what-I-keep-in-my-car and less of a decluttering video.
I went from an iPhone 6 that I've had since they came out to an iPhone 11 Pro, so it already charges like a dream to me even using my old cable and wall outlet, but I decided to keep it, at least for a while, and maybe I'll use it for travel or something...
That’s awesome! I went from a 7 to an X and I’m quite happy with its charging capabilities as well. The battery on the 11 I hear is amazing but with the way things are going, I’m not leaving the house, and so my phone is always charging 😉
As always, very interesting and helpful video! If you remember, where did you originally get those two white tables? They're simple and pretty yet functional. Thanks
IKEA! But we replaced the original knobs with knobs that also came from IKEA. They're still sold: the Hemnes white nightstand. I sold mine on Craigslist, but you could always check and see if anyone in your area is getting rid of some, since they are pretty common, before buying new.
It took 39mins to go through the bedroom and laundry😂 Ill go through the kitchen and hall cupboard next. Id really love for that cupboard to be empty....
It's old and that specific bag is no longer sold, but it's similar to this one www.rei.com/product/118854/rei-co-op-lightweight-compression-stuff-sack or any other camping compression bags on the market. You just sort of ratchet up the cords on the sides until it's as tight as possible. My husband weaseled it in there and likely did a better job than I could do myself.
I don't know!!! I think I've returned one thing to Sephora ever, and it was a foundation that I didn't open, it was still mega-sealed shut, and therefore they were able to resell it. I suppose I have higher expectations for things that I spend more money on, so possessing the receipt feels like a way to get that expense back if the product were to be a disaster, but in reality I never use them.
Technically I do need to restock some of my summery tops that bit the dust last year. I've been wearing my black linen shirt literally non-stop. TBD what I do when/if they give me credit for anything I send them. I've heard some horror stories about getting pennies back for good clothing, so we'll see...
Vested Interests Yeah, I stopped using thred up for that reason. I like a lot of stuff that they have for sale on there though! Good luck with new summer tops and excited to see them! 🌸🌼
I agree in principle and definitely want to discourage wastefulness, but I wouldn't suggest someone keep items around and be forced to use them just to learn a lesson, unless they willingly wanted to do so. The good news is that, as terrible as it can be to be confronted by one's own former wasteful habits, it can be powerful and eyeopening, and many if not most people who go through this process in earnest are unlikely to revert to those old ways. At least I have no intention to.
@@VestedInterests I never said that 'people should be forced to keep items around just to learn a lesson'. I really don't know how you gleaned that from my comment.
Sure, I bought the star mask here: www.etsy.com/listing/787386355/cotton-face-mask-11-colors-for-adult?ref=yr_purchases It says it's made in South Korea, but it ships from Nevada. I typically prefer to buy closer to home, but these are weird times and I couldn't resist the stars.
Thank you for making such calm, lovely videos. I appreciate that you don't use music. I enjoy the sound of your voice.

As always, very interesting and helpful video! If you remember, where did you originally get those two white tables? They're simple and pretty yet functional. Thanks
IKEA! But we replaced the original knobs with knobs that also came from IKEA. They're still sold: the Hemnes white nightstand. I sold mine on Craigslist, but you could always check and see if anyone in your area is getting rid of some, since they are pretty common, before buying new.
yes they do charge faster! its like an ipad charger.
It took 39mins to go through the bedroom and laundry😂
Ill go through the kitchen and hall cupboard next. Id really love for that cupboard to be empty....
Sure, but your bedroom and laundry look great now, right? Keep going, and good luck!
Can you link to the compression case for the winter duvet?? I never figured out how to compress well.
Just curious... why hold on to the Sephora receipts?
I don't know!!! I think I've returned one thing to Sephora ever, and it was a foundation that I didn't open, it was still mega-sealed shut, and therefore they were able to resell it. I suppose I have higher expectations for things that I spend more money on, so possessing the receipt feels like a way to get that expense back if the product were to be a disaster, but in reality I never use them.
What is it that you do for work? Just curious.
Any new or gently used items you should try and sell i.e. those lululemon leggings
If u send old contact scrips to 1800contacts they will give u credit towards your next order if u order from them even if the box is open
Enjoyed the video! And hey, if you want to donate your thred up credit 🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️😂
you should keep your iphone box! if you ever want to sell it!
I think instead of the current craze of decluttering and discarding we should re-learn the art of using all the things we already accumulated.
Please give me a link for the mask. Thanks
Great video! It was fun watching you declutter. Also your new bedside tables are very pretty.
Thank you! We ordered them unfinished and sealed them ourselves and picked hardware. I'm quite happy with them and they are solid AF.
