- It's a little bit clear out, a little bit tour, even a little bit of a try on. Last weekend I became fed up with the state of my closet, so I embarked on an impromptu closet clear out of just about every category: socks and underwear, loungewear and workout gear, daywear, shoes, bags, and even ski clothing. Hope you enjoy!

Video in which I discuss what I call cool vs warm clothing finishes: • One Easy and Effective...
Thank you for the weekly high I no longer get from my own decluttering
Ha! You're welcome! Re: donating to retirement homes: absolutely! I usually take my stuff to a local women and children's shelter, but there are tons of less well known places that can benefit from donations.
When I've tried to count items in my closet for the first time - I counted hilarious number: only t-shirts was 53. Now, 2 years after, its 85 items in my closet + 9 pair of shoes for all seasons, and I feel like I can declutter it even more. Your videos are inspiration!
Wow 😲. I watched the whole video amazed that you felt you had to declutter THAT closet! Thanks for sharing 🌸
Your videos always make me rethink the things I own. I appreciate that.
That shelf is pretty high for you. I’ve reached the stage in my decluttering where I have emptied all my tip-toe and drop-it-on-my-face shelving.
It feels fine to me--not a problem.
This is a good point though. Thinking about where you store things too. If you can’t reach the shelf without a stool, how often do you use the things on the shelf?
Lol! “Drop it on my face shelving.”
I laughed. Such a vivid painfully funny image.
This video is good motivation. I am in the midst of a clothing purge myself, as we start to transition into Spring. This is a good opportunity to donate some of the tired old winter things that I can't see myself wanting next year, and to re-assess the spring/summer things that I held onto from last year. I have thinned out my closet quite a lot, and it really feels good. Your videos have helped show me that I really need fewer clothing items than I ever thought I did. I felt like I wore the same few things over and over again this past winter, but no one at work noticed ( or if they did, they did not comment and I did not care!) The great thing is that I wore my winter items so many times, I do not feel bad letting go of the ones I am sick of, instead of packing them away for next year. I think it is good to re-assess our style and needs a couple times as year, as they do change!
That sounds great! I've told a few of my colleagues how many items of clothing I have, and they're always surprised to learn it, so I don't think any of them would have noticed if I didn't come right out and tell them. Anyway, I definitely agree with letting go of things once they've served their purpose. If you're over it--let them go!
Thank you for sharing again! You always remind me to be realistic about what I actually wear vs what I think I ‘might’ wear later on...👍🏻
If you're looking for sock replacements, I recommend Darn Tough. They have a wide selection of categories (ski, hiking, running) and colors, and their socks come with a lifetime warranty. If you ever wear a hole in them, they will replace them for free. I have a few pairs of running socks for everyday wear and working out, and a few pairs of hiking socks that I wear with boots or around the house. I am notorious for wearing holes in my socks, but none of my Darn Tough socks have any signs of wear, and I've had them for a couple of years now.
Interesting--I'll have to check them out! I usually get socks no-show socks from J.Crew Mercantile because they're cheap and come in fun prints and they don't slip down.
I love the way you frequently review and maintain what you own. Now that I have my capsule wardrobe, I hesitate to touch it even though some of the items are really more suitable for a “might fit better later box.” I’ve been trying to QUIT that type of box except for a few absolute favs. Thanks for the encouragement to rethink the “box” and possibly let go of them.
Your decluttering videos are so therapeutic, my criteria when finding declutter videos is that they are like your videos... Mindful Decluttering.
Because the other option are videos of people throwing clothes away for no reason, no justification, no lessons learnt... nothing (so the subsequent haul videos from said channels comes as no surprise).
Anyway, your ruthlessness also inspires me to do the same thing with my wardrobe.
I loved your decluttering. I feel like I am at the same place with my wardrobe that you are with yours. I get so overwhelmed with some videos about extreme declutters. Your video on the other hand is very relaxing to me 😄
You have so much hanging space in your closet. Why don't you hang the loungewear also? Then you have more space on the shelve above.
I've thought about that and I might do it!
Great video as always. Your declutters are my favourites. Thank you for being so thorough and sharing the reasons why you're getting rid of an item, I find that really helpful. I'd love to hear more about your transition from cold to warm clothing!
It’s Sunday. Guess what I’ll be doing today? You truly are an inspiration to me.
You are a total inspiration! I put a bunch of stuff in a trial separation box a few months ago, and I can honestly say that I haven't missed it. I still have a lot of work to do identifying my favorites and paring down my style. Your explanations and reasoning for why you select items to get rid of really helps.
Loved your video, and you did a great job of purging as you always do. The closet looks great
I wanted you to know because of you, I have a capsule wardrobe.... I love it, I donated six large bags of clothes to a woman’s shelter thrift shop a few months ago, it was freeing, and will never own a lot of clothes again.
I always look forward to all your videos 😀
That's such great news, congratulations!!! Ahh, that must have felt so good. I'm living through you vicariously a little bit. Congrats again and best of luck with your decluttering!
After seeing a suggestion from you in a previous video, I started a 'purgatory' box, and it relieves my anxiety about getting rid of something I'm not ready to! Only once have I taken something back from the box, then I wore it once and put it back as I remembered all the reasons I didn't like it!
this was really good timing. I decluttered at the beginning of the year and need to to another one. Thanks for the incentive. Your husband must love it that you don't waste money.
Hello, your video was very helpful. One of the ideas I have taken from your videos are that if something is broke, fix it or tailor it. I absolutely love this idea if you love your items! Thank you!
I love the cool green short sleeve top and have been searching for one like it with no luck.
Cuyana has a silk tee that's appears to be similar, and they have had it in green before. They do not have green right now, but they might again!
NO CAT CAMEO ? 🙀🙀🙀🙀
Your closet was already really decluttered. Love how well you maintain it . When decluttering do you keep a log items to purchase ?
I do keep a list of all of my clothing items on my phone that I use for a number of things (including packing for a trip, for example) (now I can really easily remember what I have, but I had a list before so I still do) and sometimes I write in notes about pieces I think I want to add, but I delete those notes once the feeling has passed. I've heard of people who keep a running list of items they want to add season over season, but I prefer not to do that as I might change my mind or forget about it by the time the next season rolls around.
Vested Interests thanks 😀
Lots of love to your sweet cat😻
Hi, I enjoy your videos. I could have sworn I saw you today at the Pottery Barn in Austin. I then looked for a related home video on your channel and found the Modsy video and figured you were shopping for ideas. Ironically, we are downsizing and have leased a storage unit and truck to get furniture out of the house to sell yet there I was returning pottery and looking at furniture. We had bought new dining chairs online along with the pottery for a new table which was the impetus to want to get rid of everything and start over. Btw, we really prefer to buy off of craigslists. Good luck with the home furnishing project.
Well we know where I ll be this afternoon. In my wardrobe clearing it out again🤪 Ive only bought 2 tshirts in the last 15mths. Yet I swear my wardrobe has doubled in size.🙀
Funny...did quick declutter of my spring summer clothes, tried on a lot, which helped with decision-making.
Have some to swap with friends, and 9 or 10 to consign locally. Once winter cold is finally gone, I will reassess my winter/fall items to get rid of more. Glad you made life even more easier. We always wear our favorites anyway....it's not like we don't have a washing machine, so less clothes, less stress!
What a satisfying clear out!!! Now I'm off to go do my own closet!! xo :)
The shoes definitely worked at warming your wardrobe up amazingly well. I hope you consider continuing to look for some in that color. They completely changed the look... it was very impressive, actually!
I need to do this myself. I noticed also some socks with holes, mismatched items etc. Thanks for the inspiration!
I can't remember exactly how she words it, but my mom often says to not keep underwear you wouldn't want someone else to see you in. I'm not sure she follows her own advice there, but it's a good reminder to let the worn out things go!
This is a.good specific decluttering your wardrobe. No pretentions, I love it. ^^
Great job! Always interesting to hear the reasons around decluttering an item. You have so few clothing items now! Thank you for sharing!
Love your videos and channel! Just a thought... the most important thing we can do for environmental sustainability is to hold onto the items we already own, and continue to use use use them until they are beyond repair. We have to consider where our discarded, decluttered items go if charity stores cannot sell them. If the boots, the jeans, the button up shirts are still usable, and bring you joy - keep them! Best wishes.
There's nothing like a good declutter 😁 love your videos, great job as always. ❤
Thanks!
Love ur videos. Watching on Repeat.
Hoping ur new home is happy.
U Are Missed ❤
not sure if anyone has suggested it already, but have you considered implementing a hanging cube shelf (with sturdy shelf bases) for some of the items that came out of your dresser? i imagine it would make the sweaters, loungewear, and undergarments more readily accessible!
I love these kinds of videos you do, I watch every single one and follow you on Instagram, too! I like that you always show the before/after and discard pile as a point of reference. You inspired me to keep alllll of my clothes in my closet (instead of having some in a seasonal box). ☺️
Nice clear out. I would get a bit of wood and build a few shelves on the side of the closet. You don't need the hanging space. Then you wouldn't have to reach way up for everything.
You have inspired me to start sorting my stuff to get rid of a lot of items that I no longer have use for
great declutter as always! if it were me, i'd use the larger empty box for sweaters & lounge wear so the shelf looks really tidy
This video makes me want to go through my closet right now. Too bad I’m not at home right now.
I live in coastal Southern California so I don’t really have seasonal clothes or gear. We’ve had quite a bit of rain the last few months so my seasonal gear would be an umbrella and a heavier jacket for when it’s cold.
Really enjoyed seeing how you pair your pieces together!
Love the star shirt on you! The drape would look very pretty if tucked into your jeans. But it really adds to your collection, imo. Love these vids! :)
Thanks! It's one of the cooler items I own, but I can't see myself parting with it any time soon!
I LIKE YOUR DECITIONS, YOU ARE SMART GIRL.
As always it is so great to see that with the few itens you own, you can still get rid of more. So sad to see the Other Stories bag go, I loved that thing. I did bought another minibag. I really wanted a colourfull bag. Me not getting the bag would only be to keep my numbers low. Bought the bag (which for 1 day only luckilly dropt from 150 to 50 and then I found a 20% off coupon, it's now called my lucky birthday bag) to remind me that there is more than mindless consumerism but I don't have to punish myself with not buying the things I really want. Did decluttered some clothes and shoes, so there still is some progress
I loved the short sleeve green top..I hate you got rid of it.
Yay! My favorite Breckenridge sweatshirt made the cut! 😜
Thanks for the decluttering inspiration. You could have a small narrow dresser in your closet for bras, socks, underwear and workout gear. And/or hanging shelving for sweaters. Looking forward ti seeing your replacement items
I've thought about that, but I'm trying to let the space tell me what it can hold and not buy additional storage devices. All of the things I need regularly are easily accessible. Someone did recommend a one of those hanging closet shelves, and I already have one of those, so I may try it. Will probs post on insta stories if I do, FYI.
Well done!
I am so impressed. Thanks for the inspiration! I have soooooooo much stuffffff. I have to keep working at it. It is so difficult to discard when I ‘love’ everything I have. But your quantity of wardrobe will be my goal.
That green short sleeve top looked so good on you. Bye bye lovely green shirt. Do you think you may be addicted to decluttering? I'm asking because I think the addiction is real for many people (including myself) at times.
i really look up to people who have a small selection of clothing! it tells a lot about their personalities
It's funny, when you put the full list of your 34 items I realised I might even have less :O Not at home now, so can't count, but will do. It's just that 33 or 34 seems like such a small number, but that list looked really long! On another note: do you use the black backpack very rarely? Seems like a hassle taking all the ski gear out every time you need the backpack..
What about a hanging sweater organizer for all your socks underwear and lounge wear?
I'm wanting to get rid of our big dresser as well as it's mostly empty. Have you considered getting a closet organizer installed so you have a few drawers for socks/underwear inside of your closet?
We actually have one of those closet hanging shelf thingies in our guest room closet holding board games right now. I might put that in my closet to see how it works if I get bored of the current arrangement. I'm at a point where I don't like to rely on storage/organization items if I don't absolutely need them, but I already have that hanging thing, so I could try it... Anyway, congrats on getting rid of so much yourself! Enjoy all that new space you'll have once you get the dresser out!
Love watching your videos! 💕
I'm clearing out mine again after seeing this. Lol I have way to much. Lol
Everyone's white button down in linen is so breathable/relaxed! You might like it:)

Maybe this could be useful to store items you reach for everyday: Hanging storage with 7 compartments

I’ve been looking for some appropriate work sneakers and want to try on some black supergas to see how they fit. Also, for boots, I only buy blondo waterproof booties now. I’ve had these taupe suede booties from them going on three years. They’re pricey, but good quality and versatile
Jam-packed? Really?
This is a youtube channel about minimalism, so, sure, it's no hoarder closet, but there was no rhyme or reason to it after dumping the things in from my dresser, so it felt chaotic and haphazard to me. I redact "jam-packed" and replace it with "haphazard." That's better.
What do you mean by warmer shoes? Also why do you push your clothes so close together when you have the whole closet?
I forgot to link the video in the description, so thanks for the reminder! Here is the video in which I describe what I refer to as "warm" and "cool" finishes: ruclips.net/video/hp3SiojNuNw/видео.html
Good content! Even if it was a favorite in the past and used daily, if it is no longer used, why keep it?
Thanks for sharing..what camera you use?
This video was very inspiring. Thank you so much for posting such great content. I am wondering if you would consider selling me the black leather bag from & Other Stories that you are getting rid of. I decluttered my bags a couple of years ago and only kept a navy Anello backpack, a small black clutch for formal occasions and a mint-colored crossbody bag from target. My mint crossbody bag is starting to wear out and I am on the look for a sustainable replacement. Thanks again.
The bag is already gone, but there are a few bags from the same brand available used online! Best of luck with your decluttering!
Thank you. XX
Were the shrunken sweaters wool? If so, you're not supposed to launder wool sweaters. You freeze them for 24 hrs, or place in a sealed bag with lavender essential oil on cotton balls, and just spot clean if soiled. That was quite a purge. I hope you find everything you're looking for. I'm not doing too well when trying to shop for specific items. Baltic dry index (shipping industry) has slowed, and it's reflecting in stores, at least that's been my experience.
They were both wool blends. I use the wool setting on my washer and dry flat. Like I said, that system worked for me for two years, so I'm not sure what changed.
Congrats!!!! :)
I want your black leather bag!
Good job.
if this is jam packed you would probably cry if you saw mine ... ;)
Were are your brown flats from the ones your wearing in your try on
Where did you get the shoe rack?
Deathly hollow socks! Could I love you any more?
Where did you get those boxes that you keep ski-wear in?
HomeGoods, about a year or so ago, but they tend to always have something similar in stock.
Haha I have only completed the socks drawer 😆 haha my process is maybe you will rub off on me if I keep watching
According to others, that's actually worked before, so you may be on your way!
👍👍👍💜💜💜
"Stuart Moore textiles" on Instagram. Amazing mending (with a touch of embroidery) of socks, jeans, sweaters. Her work is like ART! ❤ Anyone old enough to remember mending before tossing out? Many of us don't have time now but still an interesting thought. ☺
KD Hovis I’ve begun making mends obvious so for an old blue sweater I stitched a few snags with pink thread. My sewing skills are very poor but I love it.
