Glory is the greatest movie of all time - these two collaborated beautifully. Morgan Freeman brought so much soul to Sergeant Rawlins; in Ed Zwick's memoir, he talked about how he just gave full rein to Morgan Freeman to preach the night before the final Fort Wagner battle. It's one of the greatest scenes in movie history.
They are great. Could be better if they only took two shots to deliver the same results. Then again, you might argue that what makes them good its their meticulous iteration, which brings us to the point, art is subjective, and is made differently by different people, but I won't get into that. In an ideal world, everything would take 1 shot. But we ain't perfect.
By his accounting Stanley Kubrick was a bad director. Clint Eastwood is a movie machine - he makes movies on a schedule. They might be good, but Stanley Kubrick wants to see if he cam make it better. I'm not aware of any Clint Eastwood movie that is analyzed on the level of any Kubrick film.
Just because something is analysed too mucb means its great . A bridge too far is one of the best movies ever , yet not many people are out there analysing it to death . Also i dont mean that stanley kubrick isn't a great one , hes one of my favourites . Im just pointing out your characterization for what makes a great director isn't that stronh
Don’t ask lazy actors what makes a good director. Actors can easily ruin a film by trying to take away the directors authority. They are mostly narcissists. Like dogs, they feel the need to “challenge the alpha” and until the real alpha fills his or her role, the actor will feel frantic and anxious. A good director knows what they want and they can get it without burning bridges.
Casting is so critical to any film. However, some actors do love getting notes on set.
Ed Zwick is a great director. ABOUT LAST NIGHT... is an underrated gem. He did an amazing job with a decent script.
This is a great little video, and Morgan Freeman is just a genius.

He is absolutely right tho. If your casting is perfect then youre in a good hand

2 takes? Oh men, didn't he just saying that David Fincher and Stanley Kubrick (to name a few) aren't good film directors?

Couldn't agree more.
😄
lol true
Zach Snyder is one of the worst directors ever.
No he's not, he might have had several up's ad down's but a bad director. No way.
I don't agree
Well if you make more than 3 good films then you are labeled a good director at least by me anyways, ha
An old rule of thumb for telling if you're good at something is whether or not you can pull it off three times in a row.
