I agree with this. I think this video needs an update for sure as there have been plenty new MG’s since this video came out that might be better for beginners.
I just started with an Real Grade Red Frame today, actually! Working on the Master Grade Exia Ignition Mode right now, it's a thing of beauty honestly.
Is it wrong that I want to build and collect these models even tho I've never watch or know anything about the anime? I grew up knowing what these are due to my cousin used to build alot of these and I always wanted one. I just think they are cool and shows your style and interests are. I use to build airplane models and now I want to switch it up to Gundam because mechs are badass looking! Is it worth it? Or just stick to airplanes instead
Yunomi up to you, tbh I am similar to you, I never watched the shows and so far after starting a few years ago, only watched one series (build fighters) and started building then because of the looks, if something fancys your intrest, just have a try (also it sounds like you already have the gear to start)
Yunomi Hey!!! That is me to except for the model planes part. My cousins built a shit ton of them and I used to play a bunch of Gundam games on the PlayStation with them. I grew up knowing what a Gundam looked like thanks to them. Nothing wrong with switching things up and building Gundams. You will love it. And Don't be afraid to watch some of the shows. It is so easy to watch most of the shows online now compared to the early 2000s.
i8u2manytimes yeah yeah!! Build fighters try really got me into building gundams. It only took me 12 years to finally start building them. Always wanted to build them since a kiddo
I'm halfsies. I haven't watched the series of some the models I own that come from there, but at the very least I had knowledge of their specification and the role they had
My first Master Grade was Proto Zero, and it really is ,as its said here, a fun and fast build. As for my started gunpla, the one that got me into the hobby was the High Grade Gold Frame Amatsu.
Not to say that it's the easiest but my first MG was the Endless waltz Heavy Arms! The base Gundam build is rock solid and so awesome looking, but all those missle pods and that annoying ammo belt for the chain gun is what holds it back. Still, once you get it posed and situated, it's beautiful standing on your display 😍
My first Gundam kit was a Real Grade and since I've heard it's essential;y a smaller Perfect Grade I can say I've was a little over my head. I've been sticking to HG since then, but this video helped me out a lot since I'm looking to get a MG kit next :D
I am a beginner and I love the way the master grades look so when I finished my hgac wing zero I found a mg proto zero for $60 and thought it looked to complicated I watched this great video and now I just ordered the thing.
now i would recommend the MG Freedom Gundam 2.0! solid kit, awesome sexy looks, fantastic details, dynamic posing, good price. cant go wrong on this one
My very first kit was the 1/144 Wing Zero when I was 13 and ever since I still love building gunpla 15 years later. My first MG was the MG God Gundam when I was 15.
I began collecting Gundams in February, and as of now I have seven Master Grades, one no-Grade, and a High Grade. My first build was the 1/100 Gundam Barbatos. I loved the experience and I felt I could tackle a Master Grade right away. I went straight ahead for the MG Exia, which I had been wanting for years, and it was a much more difficult and complicated build, but much more entertaining and fulfilling than the no-grade Barbatos. I love Gundam, and building them is my favorite part of owning them. If you ever update this, I think the Freedom 2.0 would definitely top that list. I just built it and it has been the fastest and easiest Master Grade I've built.
my first gunpla was 1/60 perfect grade wing zero custom. I'm not kidding. Picked it up more than 10 (15?) years ago. I didn't have any display cases or stands so it was out in the open. It fell. A lot. Mistakes were made building it, corrected what I could but came out 'alright'. One of the wings connection joints broke in multiple places to the point where I had to take it apart. Stored it away until one day I have the time to either repair, customize or just use it for spare parts (recently brought another new kit lol).
My first mg as a rookie was sazabi ver. Ka. Just finished a month ago. I got into this hobby fast building five HGs to get experience. It helped. though I had problems with that Sazabi because I was intimidate by the MG moniker. So made a bunch of mistakes had to retrace steps to fix. If i would of looked at it as just a bigger HG it would have built fast with no trouble. I think it's a great MG to start with.
Honestly, i don't know what i'd recommend to beginners. My first ever kit was the HG Shining Break. Your reviews got me interested and i was hooked after finishing my first high grade. Then came the HG Exia Repair II and the real grade exia after that. aside from the RG RX-78-2, the rest i got were high grades with the Alex, astrea, 0 gundam, avalanche exia, and a seed destiny gundam variant before i got the MG age II magnum and MG RX-79[G] Ground gundam after that before getting the Perfect Grade Exia [love this kit, head's a tad loose but nothing that can't be fixed]. The rest of my kits are Full Metal Panic high grades of the M9D Falke, Arbalest in Gurnsback colors, and a yet-to-be-built M9 Gurnsback Commander Type. Next gundam will be MG Dynames.
awesome video. awesome for recommendations. My 1st master grade was Gundam Exia , ignition . Creating him with the ion cloak damages was sick but then completing him was just amazing
I just built my first kit, HG IBO Gundum Astaroth. The balance is poor because of the asymmetrical design of the arms and elongated weapon and the parts seems to fall off rather easily, but I still really enjoyed it. I bought the ink for panel lining and the HG IBO Gundum Barbatos for my next go around. I really like this hobby and it's wildly inexpensive compared to gaming.
started with MG deathscythe hell EW gundam, it is my favorite gundam of all time and was a easy build. also deathscythe only being the first of 3 that I got the other two being MG epyon EW and MG crossbones full cloth
I can only comment on the Buster Gundam, since its the only one of these that I own. I could not agree more, this is thus far one of my Favourite Master Grades because it looks awesome and is rather solid.
took your advice and bought the Buster and, wow, im glad i did. Buying the Jesta next. im a big fan of grunt-type MS and also i did not realize the Jesta is taller than the average MS. thats a big plus for me when choosing kits
I do agree with mecha in the sense that you should start with a high grade, even if you're not a fan of the small scale. It's good to gauge your interests, and if you think high grades are too simple, then you can just upgrade. Another good place to start is with a RE/100, if you absolutely don't like the 1/144 scale.
I've actually just got into building Gundam. My first was RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee [Destroy Mode], and I'm guessing the HG means High Grade. For as much frustration as I went through with my dad in helping me assemble it; seeing it finished was really satisfying, and it looks great sitting next to my Pacific Rim figures.
Surprised that the AGE-1 line didn't make it in here. Those models were quite literally made with the idea of being easy for beginners to put together.
My first kit was the HG Banshee, followed by the RG Char Zaku. The complexity didn't turn me off because I had been building the more complex lego toys (mainly Bionicle) so the complexity was a welcome change.
My first kit ever was the mg buster Gundam (before I even saw this video) and I definitely say I’m sold on the hobby! Got a new kit already on the way :D
my first Master Grade was an RX-93 Nu Gundam "Ver. Ka" so it wasn't the easiest thing to do... I spent 15 days trying to figure out the whole build lol... it's a pretty hard to build kit, pieces fall off easily, but it's my all-time favorite MS design (maybe it'll lose the throne to Moon Gundam because the base MS Varguil is SO amazing) and the kit's engineering is amazing... It looks great even without paint and the complexity level made me crave for harder stuff to build lol
I kinda want this video to get refreshed/redone every year with a top 5 best beginner/oob kits... I'm sure there are some RGs that would be great and Kyrios was my first MG. Pretty sure Dynames would fit the bill too
Totally agree with the Wing Proto Zero for people's first master grade. Very good kit for it's price. The wings were super confusing to build. Other wise everything else was as easy a high grade
Oh that’s awesome, i wanted to build the MG Buster as my first master grade but i didn’t know if it was a good first one. Thanks know im a but more confident.
1st Master Grade is the Build Strike Gundam. I guess it goes the same as with any GAT-series kits. they are quite sturdy and have no problems during posing.
Age 1 normal is a fantastic kit, the best of all the AGE releases IMO. I was hoping to see more of those awesome vents in the outer armor in more releases, but sadly it didn't happen.
My first and only gundam right now was the HI NU ver ka it was super easy to me and its a great kit I honestly would recommend any kit to beginners cause it's all comes down to your determination and FYI get clippers and the cutting stuff for gundam kits
My first gunpla was the RG ZGMF-X10A Freedom from SEED, my first MG was the RX78-02 Origin. I'm still a beginner, I've only made two RG, one HG, one SD, and three MG. Theres still so many gunpla I want to make!
My first gundam was a buster and I can't agree more. That gundam is built so well. But if I had to recommend another gundam it would have to be the heavyarms gundam.
i just bought that jesta the other day all cause i absolutelyloved the look and color pattern of it's hg counter part.. though i probally took the middle ground mastergrade for my first mg. it was the origin's line rx-78-2 and i didnt know a single thing about the scales and grades at the time up until that point i had only built 2 SDs so opening the box i was overwelmed but since that build i do feel comfortable in the mg line even if i have bought more Hgs since that first mg purchase. still it amuses me to date of this list i have bought and built 3 of the kits on this list jesta , buster and strike ver RM
You're breaking my heart calling out the HGUC Unicorn! That was my first HG too, and though it's crappy, it still hold a special place in my plastic heart. My first was the Nu Ver Ka., and I'd only built HG's and Lego up until then, but I'll totally want to check some of these out now.
Unicorn should be on the list too. I understood that the consensus is that it's too tedious for a beginner due to the intricate assembly but my sentiment is that as Long as one is able to follow the instruction manual, nothing is overly undo able. Even some people can start out with a perfect grade unicorn with no prior engineering knowledge and do a good job at it. It's best to say, just pick the one that fancies your interest.
My first MG was the Black Tri Stars Zaku II (2.0 Zaku ver) and it was amazing, zeon suits in general are in my favourite, and i have stuck to strictly UC suits minus the Build Strike and Exia Ignition
I started a couple of months back with a HG Gyancelot. Not a bad kit and it seemed right to start with a build fighters kit. But then i made the mistake to choose the RG unicorn as my second kit and oh boy i've been butchering that one. So i went back to HGs to take a break from that so maybe i will try a MG next. I've also been looking to build kits from other shows but the kits i've seen are either too bad or too expensive.
I gotta say any of the new GAT series excluding the Aegis are probably excellent places to start. Really solid inner frame. This extends to the Rouge Ootori and the Build Strike as well. Rouge Ootori is just awesome because of that Ootori pack being beast if people don't mind some pink in their life.
If the MG Strike Ver RM seems too boring, get the MG Build strike Full Package. Same base parts, and has a transforming backpack that doesn't fall apart.
It’s a matter of kit I was put off gunpla building for YEARS because my first kits were MG Epyon and Deathscythe he’ll I could not have botched it more For beginners I recommend starting with the High Grade RX-782 or Gundam Builders GM/GM Mafia
Started out with the 1/100 Overflag. Build was quite easy (except for the awful stickers) and it looked okay when straight built. Have since customized it to become a more Armoured Core-ish type now though. Definitely would recommend beginners to start with HGs first though.
My first MG was the Heavyarms EW. That thing is a rock with a Gatling gun. Relatively quick build, amazing gimmicks, and great articulation. Now if only Bandai didn't make the dark blue one a P-Bandai exclusive
My first gunpla was a master grade as well. It was the seven swords 00 gundam. That was a fun kit but dear god did i underestimate it. Especially when i accidentally broke off the neck trying to pull it back out because i put it in wrong. thank god for super glue.
MG Blitz is also solid as a rock and simpler than the Buster. MG Strike Rouge Otoori is also pretty solid and if you want something Zaku-ish I would recommend MG Geara Doga over MG Zaku II 2.0 for a beginner. The Zaku II 2.0 and its variants isn't that difficult but putting together the segmented hosing on the suits can be frustrating.
ive only built hgs but i have around 17 of them now. first kit was hg 1\144 verde buster gundam from seed stargazer movie. solid kit. working on lightning zeta gundam
Old video, but had to agree with Aile Strike making this list. I've only built 3 gunpla kits (MG Fenice Rinascitta, MG Aile Strike, and MG Aegis), and Strike was definitely the easiest of them. Whether that's from it being the second one I did or the Aegis being quite finicky, I don't know. As I intend to get all the GAT machines from SEED in MG, it's nice to hear the Buster is up there as I was afraid those cannons would be on par with Aegis' transformation.
I started with the MG RX-78-2 and I found that one to be very fidgety and my favorite line is the HGUC models simple clean and sturdy as hell :D I can't say I'd rather have details that didn't exist in the show than a show accurate piece :)
I definetely agree with this list. As a new time collector, this is super helpful. I csn also see why the HG gundam unicorn destroyer was a total piece of trash, becsuse that was how my Barbatos Lupus Rex HG 1/144 was. *i also recomend full mechanics 1/100 IBO gundam vidar
Mecha do another one of these vids for 2019
Srsly tho
I agree with this. I think this video needs an update for sure as there have been plenty new MG’s since this video came out that might be better for beginners.
I bet mg dynames will make the updated list
Robert Murphy i want a Dynamez it's just so cool. I already have Quan [T] Full Saber and it's a great kit
2020 now 😈
I just started with an Real Grade Red Frame today, actually!
Working on the Master Grade Exia Ignition Mode right now, it's a thing of beauty honestly.
The ignition mode exia looks astounding
My first mecha kit was the MG Providence Gundam. I loved the experience building it, and it definitely kept me going for Gunpla.
No MG Ball... :(
Syl No thanks
rdsaplala Come on, what’s wrong with the Ball?
Kaido Fuchimoto it's a ball. It's the worst thing the federation has ever done!
Lol that's why it's a good MG; it's ridiculous and simple.
rdsaplala for an mg from 2004, it’s ridiculously extra detailed. And also comes with a base and metal parts.
Is it wrong that I want to build and collect these models even tho I've never watch or know anything about the anime? I grew up knowing what these are due to my cousin used to build alot of these and I always wanted one. I just think they are cool and shows your style and interests are. How about breaking waste joint?
I got freedom 2.0 too.its a awesome kit but I broke one of its let joints.
Sorry wrong spelling it is leg
thank you for the recommendations. looking forward to buy that remastered and buster gundam. thumbs up fir you OP.
Wish I watched this before building a mg unicorn didn’t turn out the best but I still love it
My very first kit was the 1/144 Wing Zero when I was 13 and ever since I still love building gunpla 15 years later. My first MG was the MG God Gundam when I was 15.
Top 5 mg suits that will empty your bank acount
Simple, whichever ones have the largest boxes
I like how the music changed in accordance with the series. nice touch
I began collecting Gundams in February, and as of now I have seven Master Grades, one no-Grade, and a High Grade. My first build was the 1/100 Gundam Barbatos. Hi Mecha, when will you upload another one of these video again for 2022 ?.
the Buster Gundam is my Top 5 fav gundams. simple, solid and so much colour options to customise it
I didn't see the unicorn why? its easy and never falls apart
u called that easy? took me 2 days to complete mg unicorn destroyer mode
+Nameless Protagonist That was sarcasm
ChuuChao How do u know?
Nameless Protagonist it was lol
Efrain Medina Jr oh got it
my first gunpla was 1/60 perfect grade wing zero custom. I'm not kidding. Picked it up more than 10 (15?) years ago. I didn't have any display cases or stands so it was out in the open. It fell. Nice touch putting the op and ending music. NOSTALGIA RUSH!
Interesting list! it was nice to see a glimpse of your gunpla collection at the start too :)
awesome video. awesome for recommendations. My 1st master grade was Gundam Exia , ignition . Creating him with the ion cloak damages was sick but then completing him was just amazing
MG Duel is also solid as a rock. I have it, and it's amazingly awesome.
Man, listening to Invoke on the MG Strike Ver.RM gave me chills
I'm so happy I found this video, cuz the proto zero was my first master grade. And the endless waltz wing, was my first RG. Love them both to death
My first MG kit is Full Armor Unicorn Gundam Ver. Ka.
The 3 gattling guns take almost 2 hours to complete
How are you still alive? ._.
Bryan Hernandez painting the unicorn makes it more stable. My FAU is solid
KyrieTRE so... baiscaly turning it into a glorified statue?
O-O
PERFECT GRADE UNICORN GUNDAM FINAL BATTLE VERSION!
I LOVE YOUR REVIEWS ABOUT GUNDAM
MG Jegan for me. I freaking love Jegans.
started with MG deathscythe hell EW gundam, it is my favorite gundam of all time and was a easy build. also deathscythe only being the first of 3 that I got the other two being MG epyon EW and MG crossbones full cloth
I can only comment on the Buster Gundam, since its the only one of these that I own. I could not agree more, this is thus far one of my Favourite Master Grades because it looks awesome and is rather solid.
OO Qant was my first. Now working on fenice rinascita.
My first master grade was the 00 raiser. I just finished it yesterday along with my first RG, Gundam Exia.........yeah I love Gundam 00
took your advice and bought the Buster and, wow, im glad i did.
Were getting MG Barbatos and MG V gundam by the end of this year !!
I've actually just got into building Gundam. My first was RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee [Destroy Mode], and I'm guessing the HG means High Grade. Surprised that the AGE-1 line didn't make it in here. Those models were quite literally made with the idea of being easy for beginners to put together.
Definitely recommend the MG MS-09 Dom. It's a fairly simple kit with basic poseability, but it feels very durable, and it's a unique design imo.
I started with a 1/100 scale destiny gundam and my second one in a few days is a astray red frame
ive been wanting to get into gunpla so this is perfect thank you!
No problem! Hopefully you'll be getting you're first gundam soon!
i think the HG Unicorn Gundam destroy mode is awesome :c
I got it in gold color for my birthday 🎉
@@__jesterguts oh the phenex, nice =)
@@__jesterguts Boi you just got yourself a phenex lucky you
Dude... he said MG...
My first kit was the HG Banshee, followed by the RG Char Zaku. The complexity didn't turn me off because I had been building the more complex lego toys (mainly Bionicle) so the complexity was a welcome change.
Whadda ya know? The Strike RM was my first master grade!
My first kit ever was the mg buster Gundam (before I even saw this video) and I definitely say I’m sold on the hobby! Got a new kit already on the way :D
my first MG was the MS-06J Zaku 2 that i got recently. i can't wait to start modding it.
my first Master Grade was an RX-93 Nu Gundam "Ver.
My first Gundam was the Gundam astray red frame, Lowe gueles use Mobile suit MBF-PO2
It's RG
We need a updated version of the top five.
I kinda want this video to get refreshed/redone every year with a top 5 best beginner/oob kits... I'm sure there are some RGs that would be great and Kyrios was my first MG. Pretty sure Dynames would fit the bill too
Mine was the HG Wing Gundam Zero Custom... It was a gift from my dad.
I ordered a astray blue frame D as my first master grade and I can't wait to build it~
My first MG is Wing Gundam Proto Zero, and until now still the best number one for me
Thank you for recommending all these cool model kits. The first one I will get is probably going to be X Gundam.
idk about that one but good luck
Would also throw in the Master Grade AGE-1 Normal. Solid, easy to built, looks decent, and has a fairly low cost of entry. Great list!
Age 1 normal is a fantastic kit, the best of all the AGE releases IMO. I was hoping to see more of those awesome vents in the outer armor in more releases, but sadly it didn't happen.
I myself started building gunpla with the Real Grade RX-78-2.
how'd you fix the issue of bits of the leg armor falling off when you try to pose it?
I just started with the Try Burning Gundam.
I then built a Strike Freedom
My first and only gundam right now was the HI NU ver ka it was super easy to me and its a great kit I honestly would recommend any kit to beginners cause it's all comes down to your determination and FYI get clippers and the cutting stuff for gundam kits
Roman Ortiz to start off I can recommend clean nail clipers and Stanley knife if you unsure, but yes clippers and hobby knife are so much more helpful

though i probally took the middle ground mastergrade for my first mg. it was the origin's line rx-78-2 and i didnt know a single thing about the scales and grades at the time up until that point i had only built 2 SDs so opening the box i was overwelmed but since that build i do feel comfortable in the mg line even if i have bought more Hgs since that first mg purchase.
still it amuses me to date of this list i have bought and built 3 of the kits on this list
jesta , buster and strike ver RM
You're breaking my heart calling out the HGUC Unicorn! That was my first HG too, and though it's crappy, it still hold a special place in my plastic heart.
My first was the Nu Ver Ka., and I'd only built HG's and Lego up until then, but I'll totally want to check some of these out now.
It held a special place in my bin before I emptied it!
Seriously though I did like it when I had it first, but it just kept falling apart!
True, but some well-placed glue fixed that right up for me.
Just a bit over 30000 subscribers! Congrats!!
Thanks! (≧∇≦)
My first kit was the HG Force Impulse Gundam! Most likely mot the best choice for a beginner but I had fun!
My 4th ever Model Kit, 3rd ever Mecha, 2nd ever Gundam, and first ever Master Grade... was the 00 Q[ANT] Full Sabre... yeah...

The Ootori is a kit I skipped and I really should get around to building
If the MG Strike Ver RM seems too boring, get the MG Build strike Full Package.
Same base parts, and has a transforming backpack that doesn't fall apart.
That's a great point, I should have stuck that in there, it's a perfect alternative!
My first was the MG exia repair mode. After that I got the MG providence. Currently I'm doing the pane lining on the MG full armour gundam ver ka.
It’s a matter of kit
I was put off gunpla building for YEARS because my first kits were MG Epyon and Deathscythe he’ll
I could not have botched it more
For beginners I recommend starting with the High Grade RX-782 or Gundam Builders GM/GM Mafia
Started out with the 1/100 Overflag. Build was quite easy (except for the awful stickers) and it looked okay when straight built. Have since customized it to become a more Armoured Core-ish type now though. Definitely would recommend beginners to start with HGs first though.
for me, buster gundam is really solid and awesome kit..recommended!
I started with the original 1/144 wing proto zero. The wings were the biggest problem I had but a good kit
My first ever gunpla was the MG Zaku II Johnny Ridden custom
First MG Gunpla model I built was the Astray Red Frame. Hate how loose the parts were after I finished.
My first model kit was a HG deathcythe
Most Seed kits (except Aegis) and Wing kits are fairly simple and solid MGs'. If I have to recommend one, I'll go with the Proto Zero as well.
yeah totally agree with Strike as a Starter Build for MG
coz my 1st MG Gunpla was Rouge Strike +Ootori
ive only built hgs but i have around 17 of them now. first kit was hg 1\144 verde buster gundam from seed stargazer movie. solid kit. working on lightning zeta gundam
My first gunpla ever was the MG Gundam GP01.
My first MG was Tallgeese I. It was pretty amazing. Looks just like the anime.
Hey mecha can you please do an update on this I’d really love to see which mg I should build next
I started with the MG RX-78-2 and I found that one to be very fidgety and my favorite line is the HGUC models simple clean and sturdy as hell :D I can't say I'd rather have details that didn't exist in the show than a show accurate piece :)
Would definitely recommend the MG F91 (both versions). That was my first MG (Harrison Martin ver). Small size with a simple but very solid build.
My first gunpla was the RG strike freedom gundam... Which took 4 months.
