Let's Hang Out Below!!!! Miss you guys! Heads up: This may be one of the last vlogs of Season 2. Production of Season 3 has already started. It's time to get excited again, because something is coming......
Yay.... Vloggy video ... I like vloggy videos 😜 And always good to see Sharla in one. To be honest I'd be petrified about breaking the shamisen the way you have to slap it together to make sure the elements are seated firmly!😲😲😲
We're going to be in Tokyo today. Such a shame that we missed getting to say hi to you. 😦 Hope you're ok from that earthquake. We only felt a little shaking where we are.
Hi Norm I found you through Sharla and never looked back you both make me smile, I miss you both when your not on every week. 😀😍💙💖🌞👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I swear you guys, norm is the most uplifting and honest youtuber out there. just watching his videos brings a smile to my face everyday!!!!!! thanks norm!!!!!!!!! keep it up!!!!!!
Always happy seeing Sharla, and I’m also happy you got your new Shamisen, I’m glad it wasn’t broken like I thought when I saw the thumbnail, that was before I watched your new Shamisen video when it got put together
Aw a wild Sharla spotting! I’m continuously amazed with how much work goes into assembling/disassembling a shamisen. Every time I see you do it I’m filled with anxiety because I know how much time and effort it takes (and then I watch your camera fall lol)
As soon as that first clip came up of you saying "There she is!" I was like it's gonna be Sharla. Love seeing you guys together in videos! Your friendship is awesome!
Yay for Sharla! Yay for shamisen! That was fascinating. More, please! Also, I loved Hie shrine! It allowed me to take some great red torii gate pics and vids even when I didn't have an opportunity to go to Kyoto. I also love how it's smack dab in the middle of the city, surrounded by concrete. Such a contrast to the temple grounds. Thanks again, Norm!
That was really interesting to see how a shamisen comes together! I did not know that it was so portable. I know I keep seeing you carry the case, but it never occurred to me that it came apart so elegantly. Also, I'm glad Sharla's looking in good spirits. It's always nice to see other vloggers show up. Good luck with the aircon. It's getting into uncomfortably hot season over there so I hope things are nice and frosty for you now! Keep up the awesome work. Can't wait for season 3.
I have no yet seen a complete take down and put together of the shamisen yet. I need to see it. in a very aesthetic manner with very calm shamisen music.
Yes, please go back to Hie Shrine with Sharla. I love both of your channels! Thanks for sharing your outing with your shamisen and friends! It's so fascinating to see how the shamisen comes apart fits together seamlessly or seemingly seamlessly. Great outing! Thank you!
THANK YOUUUU lol I didn’t want to geek out too hard on it, but I really love how oddly satisfying it is that it all fits in so neatly! So happy it’s not just me! Made my day!
Nice calming video (apart from the camera drop ahaha). Its interesting to see the some of the work that goes into setting up the shamisen, I dont think I could deal with all that work. I am quite into musical instruments though as I played a few growing up. Thanks for another great video! :D
Two of the most delicate things in the world, the Shamisen and telling Sharla you had sushi without her. Seriously, the more I learn about the Shamisen the more fascinating it is.
I love learning more about your shamisen Norm. It's also so cool seeing you and Sharla hangout, I bet you both enjoy it because your both from Canada. I should see if you gained any of your followers from people who went to Animezement, that way we can request for you to come back and I would love to actually meet Sharla as well there!
Oh my goodness. I'm going through your catalogue of videos while I wait to enter Japan, and I've been looking for a rental space to be able to practice drums while I'm there. So glad you ended up there, now I know! :)
Loved the music you used for this video and the different viewpoint angles. I always like how you change it up each video. It was super cool to see how you put your Shamisen together. I could never do that, I would be so afraid of breaking it. Hope you and Sharla had fun hanging out. 🙂
Wow Norm didn’t get coffee, and who doesn’t know who Sharla is, I guess those who don’t are very new to the channel, or the other crews lol. Thanks for letting us in on the other stuff
Great video!! Can’t wait to see the full interview! I am seriously interested in learning the Shamisen here in the UK and I’d love to own one soon, but I don’t know what is a good one to start with is 😫 What’s your recommendation?
I can tell how much you love your shamisen ... it’s beautiful ✨ Awesome to see Sharla too! I’m off to get a phone today ... now slightly apprehensive 😂 I have your Swedish Fish in the fridge 😏
Yay, Sharla! I actually first watched a couple Uwaga Pies videos (mainly for the gorgeous Ryu), which led to Abroad in Japan, which led to Sharla, which finally led me to the absolute glory that is Norm Nakamura (I still need the back story on how a white Canadian got the name Nakamura, btw). Thank gawd for RUclips spirals!
Thank you for showing us what a day with your new shamisen looks like. Beautiful and wonderful Japanese joinery for the win! Lovely to see Sharla. Seems like she is settling back into Japan and happier. I've always wondered, is エアコン two different styles? One more like just an independent fan system vs one that connects with a whole bunch of wires and hoses? More days like these, please.
Musicians ! You're so talented and I''m only body talented. Your life is around art ! So impressed. Long ago I learned 3 chords on an acoustic guitar ! that took years... Sharla ! Love her so much ! Hugs as she is going through a lot. her cats When I had to give away my parrot, I wanted to curl up and die. We are living on.
On the first half a second of the video I was like "Is that Akasaka?" lol. Man I really miss Japan, I was staying right next to that shrine for the longest part of my trip, and starting the day with seeing the big Tori on the main road was always such a pleasure! It really is a very photogenic place, especially during the sakura!
I know sharla :P i recommend her channel to my friends when they want to travel japan! I also recommend yours norm :) sharla is how i found your channel
Good video. I enjoy seeing the shamisen side in your videos. Shamisen is pretty culturally specific to Japan, so when you share that side of your life we often get to see traditional culture manifesting itself in modern day Japan. Personally, I find that enjoyable in sometimes educational.
Oh that thumbnail for this video had me worried that you had broken your new shamisen! I was prepared to feel kind of heartbroken, but then found out that you had not broken it and I just felt relieved!
Ohh yay Sharla & Norm content! !!! So happy to see you both back together! ٩( 'ω' )و an btw the new shamisen is so pretty!!! Congrats for it! So excited for the season 3!!!
09:05 I would really be afraid to brake something whilst assembling / disassembling this precious Instrument. But You look so safe and confident, nothing bad will happen to it :) Keep up Your good work, it´s always a pleasure to watch Your videos
When I saw the thumbnail I thought you broke it and I was like OH NOO!? ...now I'm definitely awake and saw nice content like always. Your videos pretty much always put a smile on my face
Hi Norm! I was so happy to see a new vlog. :) Glad that you were able to catch up with Sharla! So many Japanese names of places with Aka/Asa/Kusa/Saka LOL. How do you keep them straight? Thanks as always for bringing us along for a bit. I hope you got a good air conditioner before the heat got too unbearable! ;) -Diane
Okay that shamisen set up is legit! . Also, weve been to Japan several times, and I haven't noticed the taxi drivers! I'll keep an eye out next time, thanks for the tip! . P.s. sharla, you're awesome with your Adidas hat. ♡
I was just thinking after Sharla's most recent video... Those two have to hang out again soon (other than the Elon Musk birthday party). When you said Sharla was going to the ATM... my mind flashed to the Korea visit with the ticket machine vomitting your money back. Still a funny highlight. But, no A/C... that has to be rough... You did help spread some rain our way, and my plants are no long about to catch fire.
That shamisen and case are sweet, where'd you get it? I'm dying to get my hands on one of the new ones that Kyle showed I think it's called the raven but damn that case and set up were so clean
I was so afraid when you were setting up your shamisen, "Noo, dont break it Norm!" kinda fear. But apart from that the video was heartwarming and fun as always!
Lol it is pretty cow pathed But the one big comfort: you’re never far from a train station So it’s pretty easy to not be lost! Plus, having a Wi-Fi router helps! Or a SIM card Really any kind of connection
Yes yes more more shamisen Norm!!! 😁thanks!!!! Yes started following you from sharla but I don't really follow sharla!!! So now she moved back to Japan!! ?
Gonna be honest, I thought the title meant you were having some sort of event like “come out and hang in real life”. Slightly sad it wasn’t, but I still enjoyed the video. I’m planning on going to Japan next summer, and I hope to meet you someday, Norm. Thanks for the opportunity to peer through a window and view Japan while I wait.
I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but I feel it would be really cool if you could tell us stories or even show us some of the creepiest places or maybe just experiences you've been to/had whilst in Japan~!
I tend to interject these into the usual vlogs rather than making them into their own vids But if that’s the kind of thing you are pretty into... you’re going to LOVE the start of season 3! It kicks off at the start of July!! I also do a podcast that I use for storytelling roughly once or twice a week!
Tokyo Lens It’s been along journey since that Day... I hope you feel it has been worth it. Comparing us with our mundane jobs and life you’ve created something special. Love seeing you and Sharla Vlog ing together. You both need to do a challenge video together. Have a Great day ....I’ll get back doing the house work Cheers. Mark🇦🇺
Finding a 'Spend a Day With' vlog that I haven't seen yet - YAY!! Having Sharla pop up in it - DOUBLE YAY!! Being snowed in still....not....so....yay. But no lack of TL content to keep me occupied. Hmmm, what do you reckon I'll watch next? hehe 🌸
Noice! Oh Norm dropping your camera again!? you are one lucky dude! How many times so far? I'm not sure you got one on video this year.... Everyone knows sharla! =j She's that emo girl that likes bread! ....and i'm gonna say that's how i also felt the first time i had Japanese bread! =j Yup, enjoyed the brief Shamisen seems like the whole construction and take down would put the player in a meditative state...
The bag is super light! The shamisen is heavier than most people could ever expect. It’s wood But made from an insanely dense and heavy wood~ And I’m up in Hokkaido right now, so I didn’t feel it at all~
WAIT. $14 for an hour in a recording studio. That’s insane. I love your new shamisen! Amazing that a house in Japan doesn’t have an air conditioner tho.
Playing shamisen is such an expensive hobby. I can't imagine myself even trying that (not to mention the fact, that I just can't use my left hand for holding strings)😅
I'm with you with phone contracts sucking. More than once I've had to drag a friend to Docomo to help translate. I can speak Japanese, but not well enough to negotiate a phone contract lol. My advice for anybody getting one, don't. It's MUCH cheaper to get a plan from a MVNO. It can be something ridiculous like $10USD for 10gb of data a month if you decide to forgo SMS/Calling which is typically an additional $7-$10 a month with an MVMO. It's been a couple of years since I've looked at traditional carriers like Docomo but it's something around double or triple that iirc. Also worth noting that in Japan. Mobile numbers are only given to permenant residents, so paperwork in getting one is the lengthy ridicuousness Norm and Sharla mentioned. But if you don't mind going data-only and using LINE/Whatsapp exclusively(many people do, it's doable) you don't have to bother with any of it. It could be as simple as giving a credit card number online and getting your SIM in the mail.
Hurrah! Sahmisen!! 2:50 Maybe you could earn a couple of extra bucks as a torture tester for cameras :-) I would NEVER be able to assemble and disassemble a shamisen without messing it up. Mind you, I wouldn't be able to play it either so it's just as well! I'm thinking that waiting until the third week in June to buy an air conditioner in Tokyo is pushing it a bit. Thank you for sharing your day with us. It was fascinating watching you with your new shamisen. I sure hope you've got insurance on that thing!
Let's Hang Out Below!!!! Miss you guys!
Heads up: This may be one of the last vlogs of Season 2. Production of Season 3 has already started.
It's time to get excited again, because something is coming......
Woh season 3
Yay.... Vloggy video ... I like vloggy videos 😜 And always good to see Sharla in one.
To be honest I'd be petrified about breaking the shamisen the way you have to slap it together to make sure the elements are seated firmly!😲😲😲
Where can people in Tokyo watch you perform? (For when I eventually get to Tokyo)
Also new video hype (and Sharla)!
We're going to be in Tokyo today. Such a shame that we missed getting to say hi to you. 😦 Hope you're ok from that earthquake. We only felt a little shaking where we are.
xavior Z very excited!
Was nice to catch up😊 let’s go properly check out that shrine one day and take some cool photos!! ⛩
So much pressure... jeeze lol 😂
See you when I get back from the trip kicking off Season 3!!
Guys, you really should make videos together more often ;)
It's awesome that most of my favourite youtubers living in Japan know each other ;)
Hi Norm

Yay for Sharla! Yay for shamisen! That was fascinating. More, please! Also, I loved Hie shrine! Yea Norm and Sharla together ❤ have fun. For a minute there i thought that the shimashin was broken. I'm gald it wasn't.

Yes, please go back to Hie Shrine with Sharla. I love both of your channels! Thanks for sharing your outing with your shamisen and friends! It's so fascinating to see how the shamisen comes apart fits together seamlessly or seemingly seamlessly. Great outing! Thank you!
Yay Sharla! I started watching you because of her.
Yay, we get to see Sharla again!!
I'm happy to be back watching your videos dude! And especially because you seem even happier than before! Congrats again on the new Shamisen
I love how neat the shamisin bag is, it's just so satisfying lol
Also hey Sharla, always a pleasure to see you
THANK YOUUUU lol
I didn’t want to geek out too hard on it, but I really love how oddly satisfying it is that it all fits in so neatly!
So happy it’s not just me!
Made my day!
I really liked this! It’s fun when you do the out-and-about vlogs!
And that’s why you da best! Lol
Thank you so much for your time! The interview is now up in our channel! Come check it out!

Hahaha, Sharla doesn't give herself enough credit. I (and according to the comments many others) actually found you through her! Lovely vlog!
The joints on the Shamisen look very precise & delicate. Nothing like slamming my sax neck seated! And, Hi, Sharla!
Loved the music you used for this video and the different viewpoint angles. I always like how you change it up each video. It was super cool to see how you put your Shamisen together. I could never do that, I would be so afraid of breaking it. Hope you and Sharla had fun hanging out. 🙂
Coming clean: I’m constantly terrified of breaking it lol
And so happy that the music spoke to you!
I spend more time on music than the edit lol 😂
Wow Norm didn’t get coffee, and who doesn’t know who Sharla is, I guess those who don’t are very new to the channel, or the other crews lol. Thanks for letting us in on the other stuff

I love both of your videos! :) my fingers are crossed that I get to run into you guys during my visit in August. LOL
I mean you guys’ videos. Lol
Fingers crossed!!!

Sharla!!!! Woohoo!!!! She Back!!!! Also... Why you scare us like that?!?!?! LOL I really thought something had happened to your Shamisen. LMAO
I know sharla :P i recommend her channel to my friends when they want to travel japan! I also recommend yours norm :) sharla is how i found your channel

She’s doing great!
Good video. I enjoy seeing the shamisen side in your videos. Shamisen is pretty culturally specific to Japan, so when you share that side of your life we often get to see traditional culture manifesting itself in modern day Japan. Personally, I find that enjoyable in sometimes educational.
Yes indeed, once in Kobe, the taxi and the red light. I said whoa and the driver said it's okay, daijobu desu.
Super cool shamisen!
Oh that thumbnail for this video had me worried that you had broken your new shamisen! I was prepared to feel kind of heartbroken, but then found out that you had not broken it and I just felt relieved!
Thanks to this video, I found out about studio Noah in Akihabara to pass the time while waiting for my flight today. Thanks Norm!
Niccceeee!
That’s awesome
Glad I could give some value
This was wholesome, I loved this.
Picked up my electric guitar and started practicing because I got super motivated from seeing you put together that Shamisen. xD.
Yay Sharla!
Okay that shamisen set up is legit!

.
P.s. sharla, you're awesome with your Adidas hat. ♡
Glad to see you uploading great content every time!
p.s. Dude, would love it if you had a Shamisen intro. :D
Just to clarify... are we talking an intro that utilizes shamisen music? 😉
@@TokyoLens Yup, utilizing shamisen music played by you. 🎶 :)
That looks like such an amazing place! I hope to become a better vlogger like you ☺️
yea! Sharla! nice you guys in the same vid...tfs
It’s been all too long~
Amazing how portable your shamisen became!
Watching you do the musician thing is riveting.
100% love seeing you play more please.
Visited the Hie Shrine today based on this, very good recommendation, thanks 👍
Glad to hear!!
Find the torii gates around back? 😊
@@TokyoLens I did indeed. Very nice spot for a picture or two 😊
My first night in Japan last summer was in a TIIIIIIINY hotel room in Aki, I feel your pain 🤣
YES!
I agree 😉 lol
Norm: "There she is!"
Me: "Wait was that Sharla??"
*later in the video*
"OH MY GOD IT'S SHARLA!"
Two of my favourite vloggers have now covered Hie Shrine in recent videos xD
I was so afraid when you were setting up your shamisen, "Noo, dont break it Norm!" kinda fear. But apart from that the video was heartwarming and fun as always!
I've never been good with directions. I just know I'll get lost in Tokyo when I get there so I'm all but breathing in your videos.
Lol it is pretty cow pathed
But the one big comfort: you’re never far from a train station
So it’s pretty easy to not be lost!
Plus, having a Wi-Fi router helps!
Or a SIM card
Really any kind of connection
as soon as you said change of plans i knew sharla would appear.
Have fun with you're friend!
Yes yes more more shamisen Norm!!! 😁thanks!!!!
Yes started following you from sharla but I don't really follow sharla!!!
So now she moved back to Japan!! ?
I like to thank Tokyo Creative and talk
For having you on there
That's how I found you
Enjoy your guest appearances
You're pretty funny
So, yeah
Never get tired of Akiba. I see Yodobashi finally claimed some of your money. LOL
would love to know what Shamisen you recommend!
It's the opposite of game of thrones, better and better as the seasons continue *drooling*
Hahaha this might take comment of the week
Thank you for the kindness 😊
Can you choose a one piece Shamisen? Instead of a collapsible one?
Oha! Cab drivers crossing red lights… so Japan DOES have a dangerous side 😆 thanks for the tip will definitely watch out for that
I was expecting you to play a serenade to Sharla with your shamisen :D.

Sharla! Lol. By the way, how heavy is your Shiamisen Bag? Just cirious. And did you feel the earthquake last night?
The bag is super light!
The shamisen is heavier than most people could ever expect. It’s wood
But made from an insanely dense and heavy wood~
And I’m up in Hokkaido right now, so I didn’t feel it at all~

Hi Tokyo lens
Can you ps tell me in the beginning of October how is the Weather like??
Keep up the good work 👍😀
Hurrah! Sahmisen!!
2:50 Maybe you could earn a couple of extra bucks as a torture tester for cameras :-)
I would NEVER be able to assemble and disassemble a shamisen without messing it up.
Hahaha yea third week is reeeeally pushing it 😂
Life just kept happening!
What shamisen would you recommend?
I’d recommend the ShamiBoy by Komatsuya shamisen
Rather than the 2-3000 dollars a shamisen would typically cost, you’re looking closer to $300!
@@TokyoLens Thank you!
