    My main problem with mha is what you explained at 19:40, Deku getting ofa is what ruined this show for me.
    When I started watching mha this show idea was: "Teenager without superpowers in a world with superpowers tries to become a hero" and Deku was portraid as someone with inteligence, analytical abilities and creativity.
    So I thought that he would become a hero with his inteligence (use support gear, discover villains weaknesses) but it was ruined as soon as he got ofa. They just focused on his strength and sense of justice and trew his inteligence of the roof.
    And now it's "Teenager with one or even the most powerful superpower in a world with superpowers tries to become a hero" - it's just kinda boring and we already know the outcome.

    The beginning of the series starts with Deku lamenting that all people aren't created equal because he's Quirkless, but that angle is dropped almost immediately. Even worse, the characters don't ever really dwell on the negatives of the hero society they live in. It's like Horikoshi wanted to say something, but then decided not to and just ditched that angle. Even in the current chapters of the manga, one of the recent villains complaining about mutant discrimination gets shut down with "Oh, it's better now in the city. You're just grumpy because you're thinking about the country. Stop setting the pro-mutant movement back." It's ridiculous.

      Let's take a look in another angle. Change quirk into wealth. Deku laments that he's poor, how society treats you differently if you're poor and how the system was made to keep the poor as they were. He came to a realization that not everyone were created equal, some are more "lucky" than others. Then suddenly All Might, the number 1 business man, came into his life and grants him the GREATEST company of all time. Deku studied hard to manage and handle the company, while lifting his "social status" at the same time, so he can be the next number 1 business man. Then you realize that the moment Deku was granted the ownership of the company, he just stops caring about inequality nor mentioned it ever again all together. Not saying that he's NOT allowed to change his mind, it was just done in a poor taste. @@Hugo_Tate

    At least Chainsaw Man and Code Geass did the whole alternate universe thing a lot better.
    Chainsaw man takes place in an alternate earth in the 1997, where the Soviet Union never disbanded, Nazis were never a thing and nukes were never invented because Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil basically devoured those concepts out of existence. Reze, a fan favorite character, is basically from the Soviet Union as she was ordered by the higher ups to kill Denji, the main character and steal his chainsaw devil powers.
    Code Geass basically takes places in an alternate timeline where the British won the revolutionary war and renamed both north and South America the Britannian Empire. Europe was renamed the Europa Union and China became the Chinese Federation. These three dominant powers have warred against each other for world dominance while countries like Japan and the Middle East tried to stay neutral.

      Can't say i'm surprised. MHA can't happen but contradict and ignore a lot of things they say even if some some things said never made sense to begin with like with what you said and this is no different.
      How on earth can All Might say Deku needs a quirk to be a hero or else "it's to dangerous" even though we have seen guys like Stain be dangerous threats with a quirk that can be easily substituted with poison and the fact that we have seen many heroes and villains with quirks that are unsuited for fighting or have weak combat capabilities? And that's of course not mentioning the advanced technology MHA has similar to other Superhero works like Marvel and DC and science that can augment a body to be much stronger like what we saw with Shigaraki.
      I feel like a more logical and better explanation would be something like "kid, the reason why you can't be a pro-hero is that our society focuses entirely on someone's power that defines them as a "hero" and a celebrity one at that, as such no matter how great you become by training your body, learning martial arts and using gadgets and other weapons to defeat villains you will always be seen by a good lot as a "weakling" having no business to upstage the "heroes". Sorry, but it's the truth".

      @M4x_P0w3r Год назад +8

      To be completely fair, he was blatantly wrong about the scene, regarding Deku being an idiot that doesn't make use of his hero knowledge. What he doesn't show in the scene is Deku desperately trying to come up with a way to help Bakugo as he's rushing along, then remembering the notes he took on the hero Kamui Woods and replicating one of his moves with his bag, perfectly aiming his notebook into the villain's eye, one of the few solid parts on his body. Sure, afterwards he kinda just dug into the slime to little effect, but he did everything he could, and managed to accomplish more than several heros present without proper training, quirk or support gear. He bought Bakugo several precious seconds of fresh air.
      Also, the part about All Might is that he was becoming jaded by this point. He wanted to help, but felt like he couldn't because he ran out of time and was feeling the pain of the injuries. That is realistic. Even the most virtuous of people can have moments of doubt and weakness, where they dont believe in themselves enough to act even if they actually can make a difference. He himself admitted right afterwards that he was being a hypocrite and not following his own ideals.
      'sides, while the argument about Deku not getting One for All for the improvement of the show can be made, but the ways he proposed to improve the scene? None of them would work. The police and heroes would not just go listening to some random kid while in the middle of duty, and Deku making support gear without license would be illegal and get him into big trouble as well, not to mention the fact he was carrying it to begin with would be akin to a kid carrying a weapon on himself: kinda a big nono.

    • @jlinus7251
      @jlinus7251 Год назад +16

      I don't think they captured heroism all that well. It's really reckless in this show, and not even borderline but full on self destructive. Almight literally works himself to near death because he has a mantle to hold. Passes the mantel to a literal child who breaks his body on multiple occasions to do so. Heck the first instance of a 'heroic' act in MHA was a quirkless, untrained and reckless kid running into danger knowing full well he's about to die, to attempt something incredibly fruitless. Thats not heroic that's just dumb. Now if Deku had an actual plan, and used his brains in that moment to actually help Bakugo there would have even a huge difference to the moral of that story.
      Also this nebulous idea of the symbol of peace is challenged so many times but instead of actually deconstructing it in a meaningful way, Deku just takes the mantel without questioning it. I genuinely think the world building and characters in this needs to be rewritten for it to work. At least this is my opinion on the anime. Others might think differently

    Personally I thing getting a quirk ruined it but in my opinion it is also dekus character and whatever his costume is. I hate his character because he seems like a nice character but he has no motivation and doesn't care what happens to villans but doesn't have a grudge against any of them ether. Also everyone is his friends and likes him man even some villans (toga)

    MHA started out ok but then it stagnated and it became a cacophony of anime tropes and dragging the story along to the point of absurdity. i dont remember when it happened, but the second i noticed that they were wasting time talking about shit for a couple episodes only to have on maybe 2 episodes of actual plot progress whether through battles or actual plot(not just re-visiting previous episode dialogue) i knew it was done, and now its even worse. on top of that there are some anime tropes in this show that really hold it back as well as a propensity to always tell and not show and when they do show they still fucking talking shit.
    edit: also, personally, the word quirk to describe superpowers is so fucking dumb and so obviously created to avoid using the word superpower even tho thats exactly what they are. just edge for edge's sake basically thats how that word feels. "oh its not superpower, its quirk" dont know how many times ive heard that and it just annoys me to no end.

    probably not a very...scientific opinion but I fell off after the villian hunt ark. Because at that point Dabi was the most interesting character in the show, and then I thought the vilian hunt was pretty stupid (I cannot stand vilian turn fake-outs) and Dabi wasn't back in the next few chapters into the next arc so I got mad and stopped reading.

    While I have big issues with MHA in its later arcs until the present, I have to disagree with your way of criticism. First, it just seems like splitting hairs and then overall proposing a completely new storyline from episode 2. Mate, there are a MILLION of different possibilities and stories that can be made up from even episode 1. The point is that if you're gonna watch or read a story, you're supposed to at least embrace the initial premises presented, not criticize the first few episodes and think it could have been done better. Literally ANY story in the whole world can be done better in as many variations as there are people who criticize it and think they could do better.
    I'm up for this show being criticized, but your critique just seems like a reach, like how cinemasins does it.

      @miniozzy2841 Anime is literally just the Japanese term for animation. Animation as a medium allows a lot of mobility that other mediums don't offer. They have a soundtrack, voice acting, and innate visuals. Books leave a lot up to the imagination, which can be hard when someone does not have an imaginative mind, has issues with motivation for reading, and when the author is unclear in text. A lot of issues with dialogue in a story can be fixed with tone alone which is what makes voice acting so valuable. Plus, there is also the fact that animation can inspire your imagination much more than words on a page can. Books have advantages as well and are good storytelling mediums. There's a reason they have stuck around for so long, but that isn't a reason to discredit other mediums. Animation brings a lot to the table that covers any weaknesses a book would have while books do the same for animation. Discrediting either because your favorite is something else is really weird

    • @miniozzy2841
      @miniozzy2841 10 месяцев назад

      @@Malevolent_Maya you say that there aren't other forms of medium that do that all without animations, as a professional script writer and scene analyst I've studied similar and apposite mediums and found that the more convincing mediums of story telling is through books as the are often the things most adapted to film for the less "imaginative" to enjoy, but mostly for those are unmotivated to read, and I am aware that anime is a Japanese term for animation as not only do I speak the language, that is actually where I am from before I moved to the us for college, but in this context anime in itself is it's on subgenre for animation as anime itself doesn't make up the majority of animation so assuming that I'm targeting animation in it's entirety be talking about one of it's subgenre is ignorant, further more there are way too many anime the cycle through the same story choreography that it actually detours people away from the subgenre entirely, there's a shockingly low amount of anime that actually breaks the cycle and comes up with something new like Ponyo or flips the cycle on its head in a clever parody like One Punch Man where we see the hero at the end of his journey and most of the story is being told through the perspectives of those around him, and I have seen non-anime animations that do tend to have better storytelling as most of them atleast have something to say which something that should really resonate with the audience, and this is actually something most commonly found in books than anything else, and sorry to tell you but no, books are not my favorite medium, so don't say that I'm playing favorites when I'm really not, and trying to make this a personal issue rather than studied facts you would only discredit yourself as you would then have no proper ground to debate on

    • @Malevolent_Maya
      @Malevolent_Maya 10 месяцев назад +4

      @miniozzy2841 The only thing that would unite anime as a subgenre rather than just a synonym for animation would be the similar art, but even then there are so many differences across it. There are different themes, different genres, etc. They don't have a uniting detail unless you wanna say created within Japanese Culture. I will say I'm not qualified to talk deeper on books as I have a special little thing going on that makes me have issues with the medium. Aphantasia, I can't picture things period. So I do not have the full book experience available to me, however I can say that different mediums work better for different stories. Your preferred Genre may simply be worse in animated form than in other forms

    1st all the way back in the Sports Festival is where the series starts fallin short of it’s POTENTIAL(i.e. the execution/exploration/action could’ve been better)->from there until the Pro-Hero arc the series,tho not perfect n could’ve been better in a multitude of ways,is still great shonen if u ask me->after dat it derails into a messy shonen, with GREAT moments,but an absolutely unhinged n malnourished narrative, similar to black clover overall.
