I’m glad this wasn’t just straight trashing the show. It was just explaining legit issues that if fixed would make the show better. A lot of people just mock the show and call it overrated instead of actually critiquing it. I love this show a lot but I still see some of the issues. I mostly love the show for its characters. Even them just hanging out for an entire episode is entertaining to me.😂

I will say you are absolutely correct that Deku being mad at someone would be interesting... and thats happened a few times. What is arguably the BEST fight of the show has this as a "turning the tables moment". Deku VS Todoroki. While yes, Deku does end up fighting with a different goal, the core root of all Dekus passion in that fight is that Todoroki wanting to be the best whil NOT giving 100% pisses him off because Deku has to *barely* get by while trying his hardest.

Because the levels of anger I saw when Steven confronts his dad are equal to Deku chewing out Todoroki imo (but i do agree the series would benefit if Deku was allowed to ponder and dwell on the events of the story more whether he gets angry, regretful, etc.)

So to counter this, he refuses to eat and sleep for-- what people suspect-- about 2 weeks to a month so he can take out villains without drawing attention to his classmates. While I still think My hero academia is good and don't agree with all the takes here this is probably the best qriticue of MHA I have seen. Most people just say they don't like it with minimal arguments or its really degen manga stans that whine about miniscule details being changed. The manga is pretty good but if you want to get trough the anime first it could be a good read after. There is also the spinoff prequel Vigelanties witch is actually where most of the Shirakumo stuff was introduced plus it gives more depth to Midnight so her death hits harder with that. And at least they made sure that the movies are practically canon althoug not necesary for the story to work since most anime movies are just blatant filler. Its still impressive that My hero academia got as big as it has as its the first manga that really blew upp for Horikoshi the last attempts lasted 10-30 ish chapter while MHA is closing in on 420 chapters as of now.
While I don't agree with the takes this video is better than the rest that basically amount to people just raging incoherently about stuff.

I have a question about the tone, One Piece, considered one of if not the best manga of all time is full of both really fun, goofy and wacky moments but also has some of the darkest backstories in manga, so why is it bad for My Hero but other manga can?

The new and different there was also more so the new fans trying to argue it’s gonna be way better and way different than Naruto. It’s gonna be the new shounen battle take not all that unlike how JJK/CSM are presented now. Some of the fans were not new. I remember TeamFourStar did videos on the series years back. They weren’t new, but they were about just as annoying as the new fans spouting the same. I saw their takes as just giving ammo to the new fans.
Meanwhile, I kept seeing Deku as New Naruto. Stopped watching in s3. Same with Black Clover. Although, that one did also start looking more FT after a while. Stopped watching that one early, but I think I prefer the Black Clover fanbase over MHA fanbase. At least they didn’t make out their favorite shounen battle pick to be more than it was. Black Clover similarity with other big shounen battle stories actually started to be more flattering. JJK and DS s1s were also more flattering. I’m still watching their s2s.
Vs I was very annoyed by MHA. Not flattered at all. Although, it was mostly due to fans. The series by itself was alright. Just not my preferred shounen battle. I don’t care much for superheroes. Also thought their were too many characters. So many it gave me appreciation of Naruto. Too many characters was something I thought on that one, too. Until I realized I preferred the Naruto cast. Or other big casts in other shounen battle before MHA since this is all I had reference to at the time.

question for you. Why does the main character have to have character growth if he/she inspires character growth that wouldn't otherwise happen in others? Goku did this to. Sonic does to. The main character doesn't grow that much mentally but everyone else around them does. I would also argue that deku from what I have seen does have character growth. It might just be a lot more subtle then your use to. I have seen in clips him going from desperately optimistic to a more realistic optimistic to frankly depressed still hoping for the best but beardly holding it together back up to optimistic but hoping it doesn't just crumble around him. If that isn't character development or at least character changing then I don't know what is.
edit: ok kind of have a point over all.

    • @kamermoon5691
      @kamermoon5691  3 месяца назад

I feel like with the growth thing, Goku and Sonic are far more likeable and charming characters who honestly in some cases have more potent growth and arcs than deku does. Goku during the cell arc coming to terms with his power and place in the world, realizing that by being on earth he is its biggest protector but also its largest magnet for danger. He chooses to give up fighting on earth, his power, and his life for the safety of those who he loves. Sonic usually is more fast and flashy but in Lost World his fast and rash actions are what causes most of the problems and throughout the game. That is his arc. Deku, a. isn't charming; I've seen shy, anxious, school boy protagonist a million times and while he is optimistic and a fighter, these things in my opinion really aren't interesting when he's STILL being a spineless kid multiple seasons in. And b. I don't think 'subtle' is the word that I feel describes his growth, 'barebones' is more what I feel. But I understand where you're coming from, and if you can find interest in how deku grows, that's awesome! I just really don't.

I personallly do enjoy watching the show still, but I mostly enjoy it to see snippets of my favorite characters, who are very rarely the main focus of any episodes. Hell, my favorite character doesn't even have an actaul character arc.
I feel like moving the protaganist to be someone like Bakugo or Kirishima would've been so much more interesting. Both of them are such fascinating characters who would really benefit from more screen time. (Also since my favorite character is Kaminari, he would get more screen time (: )
Let's start with Bakugo. As mentioned in the video, Bakugo is hot headed, angry and extremely agressive through most of the series, but that's because we're seeing him through Deku's POV. Seeing his view would be something really interesting as we'd actually get to see his thought process. Why did he hate Deku so much? How did he feel when Deku got into UA? What exactly made him have respect for Kirishima? These are all questions that would be so interesting to explore, and almost every arc would still be fascinating from his POV.
Then we have Kirishima. He's a fan favorite character, who I don't think was intended to be as popular as he is. He's my second favorite character and if I could choose one character from MHA to come to life, it would be him. He's not only relatable thanks to his backstory of bullying and dealing with low self confidence, but he has so many sides to his character. We've seen him get angry before, look at Bakugo's kidnapping for example. This guy literally befriended someone who no one else in the class wanted to go near, and he was persitant enough to succeed. Seeing the whole story from his perspective would be interesting since he is someone who has so much room for development. Not only in his quirk (which we have seen) but also in character. Seeing the whole show from Kirishima's POV is something I would absolutely love to see.
Honestly there's so many other characters who would be fascinating to see the story through. Todoroki would also be a great choice but this comment is too long as it is.
Hope you all have a wonderful day (let me know your fav MHA characters below)

The arc is seven episodes... And 20 manga chapters, for such a great arc its rushed.
Also deku has hid only character development ever in that arc. He loses the things that made him worthy of one for all. His heroism and everything, he learns to also care about himself as the vigilante arc is him pushing others, he learns that he needs friend's and he cant neglect certain aspects of himself.
Also the things he loses of his character in that arc basically just come, back and it feels like forced character development...

Hi, as a huge fan of the anime and manga, i do understand where your coming from on many of these points. Though me personally, i think the show is great and i really enjoy it. But when you said the thingy about deku not really having any character arcs, i can agree and disagree. On one hand his personality does not change that much throughout the series. But on the other, he does change quite abit looking at season 1 then season 7. He goes from a slightly immature, weak, crybaby boy who wants to be a hero to a strong, mature, hero who inspires many others. And while his selflessness never really changed (considering how much of a self sacrificing idiot he was during the paranormal liberation war and vigilante arc) i do think he has change throughout the show. Anyways, I was wondering if you could make an updated video since the manga has finished and season 7 of the show is releasing now. I'd like to here your thoughts on the new stuff and the ending.

I don’t find Ikuku boring. What I find interesting about Deku is that he’s a person who is passed on a great responsibility at such a young age that he isn’t sure of how to handle it. That’s actually not that common as far as shounen manga is concerned. Deku’s slow growth is cited as a fault but I think that’s missing the forest for the tree. He does grow, in the sense that things around him evolve. The villains mostly are what Deku could have been had he strayed from his course.

You make some solid points in the video. However.
While the anime definitely has lost some interest. It seems the manga has only grown in popularity. I feel like viewer experience and viewers perspective quality is very subjective of a thing and it still trends everytime an episode or chapter releases. Not to mention sales in circulation have only increased outside of a 30 percent dip last year but that was only due to it selling one less volume than the previous year.
Mha actually has one of the most consistent fanbases in terms of how well the series performs on a metrical scale.
Personally the series is still great for me and while it has has objectively had a change in story direction and quality I do feel like part of the people saying "mha fell off" is a false narritive when you look at how the series is performing overall.
Afterall, this is a series that is closing in on 100 million sales within the foreseeable future and has already passed great series like Yu Yu Hakusho in terms of sales.
Metrics doesn't equal quality but the point is that people are trying to objectify the series current writing quality to fit their narritive that the series lost traction and that one talks about it which is kinda false

My biggest gripe with Deku probably comes in the later seasons. I was fine with him being super kind and innocent before, but in the later seasons it doesnt make sense. I thought they were gonna make him more serious and make him walk the line of morality when he went solo, but he never did. It was such a wasted opportunity. Also i think they rushed One for All as a quirk. He went from breaking his bones every punch and only using 5% to going 100% and beating everyone in a season. It felt underwhelming.

I was really hoping you’d go over the writing of the show. It was lightly touched on with the characters but when I think of MHA flaws, I immediately think of how bad the writing is, especially in season 1 like when the teachers were going over that one training area and how it’s called the USJ and all the kids in their heads think “just like universal studios japan” like there’s a lot of moments where the show tries to be quirky, especially since the show is about quirks, but it ends up being a mess of a story and that’s when I think it doesn’t take itself seriously. There’s parts like Ochaco’s motivation in season 2 to be a hero to help her family get money, like that’s really great character development when she fights for herself but ends up as the “I do nothing until it’s for my love” literally immediately after that arc. I hate saying this was my first anime because when there’s moments like the first episode that made me cry when it came to Deku’s mother during that flashback because I think about how cringy the show and the “humor” turned out to be. The only interesting part about this show that’s worth watching imo IS the villains because at least they aren’t written to be absolute morons, for the most part. They actually do something like one car chase in season 3 if I remember correctly, and I thought to myself “oh cool new sand hero character, I wonder how he’ll impact the story of the entire show because his power could be just like Crocodile in One Piece except water doesn’t nullify his power, I’m excited to see how this plays out” and bro just instantly dies to Compress. Bro wasn’t on screen for more than half an episode because the villains actually do something. How is something so interesting like that in a show with awful writing for the main characters? I watch this show and think of how I hate every time one of the main characters speaks a word, then I get to scenes like that and it’s genuinely surprising and awesome, just to go back to cringy teamwork kids doing teamwork things.
Sorry for the long rant LMAO thank u for uploading this cause I’ve been thinking of this show a lot and wondered if it was still worth watching cause I stopped watching a couple episodes after Dabi reveals his identity to Endeavor

For me it's the ass pulls, the lack of emotional stakes and that Hori just refuses to kill any character off that the audience likes. Who cared about Nighteye? He was introduced in the same arc he died, also he was a douchebag most of the time, so yeah. Midnight dying off screen? Who gives a crap? That scale dude that died in the first war arc? Can't even remember his name.
I have literally zero emotional attachment to any of the characters, not anymore at least, because I know nothing will happen to them and for the rare case something bad does happen to them, Hori just pulls something out of his butt to make it not have any lasting impact (Bakugo comes to mind).
The first three seasons were peak, season 4 was a bit on the weaker side (especially because the animation started to drop off) but it was still okay and from season 5 onward there's just nothing really holding my interest. The only saving grace MHA had was that Hori is a once in a generation artist, his art is literally the best art in any running shonen series right now. I hope Hori is doing a horror manga next.
I once saw someone saying in a mocking tone that no one is supposed to die in the "happy go lucky superhero show". But why does MHA try to be so edgy and dark so often? How is "young girl gets tortured for multiple years so criminal organization can harness and abuse her powers" or "boy accidentally kills his whole family which he was mostly abused by" or "dad keeps producing children with a wife that doesn't want to be with him in order to produce the perfect superhero that can succeed him and then punches him and his mom", how is this a "happy go lucky" super hero show? I mean, this is the stuff I wanted the story to keep exploring. It wanted to get darker, then why would it never challenge Deku's mindset and worldview, why would Deku never stop and reflect on himself? That is why will I keep laughing in anyones face who says that the Dark Deku Arc was good character development. Where's the damn development though? Deku was just sad because he was targeted and felt alone because he thought he had to leave everyone. Then it was resolved because power of friendship and then we were back at square one.
I thought I would get more out of MHA when it admitedly got really dark at some places. I thought it would kept going and evolve into this show that throws away the expectations you would have at the beginning. And it kept teasing and teasing with dark stuff, not just with "sunday morning cartoon" dark stuff but with REALLY "this shit happens in real life and is the abyss of humanity" dark stuff.
All Might needed to die. Maybe even Deku's mom needed to die. SOMEBODY needed to die that was close to Deku so he could have FINALLY have some f*ing character development. And I will die on that hill.

When it comes to deku I think OSP sums it up well I'm red's video about pure good protags. Their character isn't the interesting one, it's how other people react to and around them. @isengarde9490 22 дня назад

I actually did really like My Hero. Well, no that's a lie, I read the story to see how the writers handled the idea's they presented in their pilot issue.
It's not breaking any ground, it's Bleach but with a sunshine child Goku instead of irritable preteen Ichigo as the main character.
Except, lacking any sort of genuine substance to bridge the gap between the spectacles of the fight scenes.
But hang on! What about the other Main Characters!
They become floating heads after they get to play a major part in an Arc.
    An example:
Mirio stops being relevant after the Yakuza arc, and the Yakuza would have been dealt with before Quirks even came around if you follow the theory that the world of My Hero follows real world events until the Quirks started to show up. Nejire is the only member of the Big Three that I can remember returning after the Culture Festival arc, and even then she's just there so we see some female character in a skintight bodysuit that doesn't require a pov shift from the Main Fight.
And, the stuff that *does* get tossed in that would make a good story arc to add in some world building to the universe he came up with, he just uses it as a throwaway line and never brings it up again, unless it's to give motivations for a new antagonist that'll be killed off or forgotten by writers and fans alike by the end of the issue.
Like, for example, Spinner. The guy faces discrimination for looking like a lizard, and he goes full on death cult for Stain. By the end of the story, he's sort of like the rest of the League, he's only still there because they're his family now, and he's got nothing left but them.
Okay, that sounds like it'd be interesting to have a small filler episode or minor arc exploring the more unfortunate sides of a reality where everybody's super, right?
Nope. Just move on to the next part and forget he ever existed.
Momo Yaoyorozu. Oh boy where do I start..
Okay, Momo's Quirk is arguably one of the most broken powersets in the show. Like, as long as she keeps eating she can create fucking anything. With the exception of living tissue. Does that mean she can create dead tissue? Is her Quirk a Bloodline Power, and one of her parent's has the same ability? Are there more people like her? If there are, then is there a cabal of literal demigods that zap shit into existence maintaining the resources of the world like some weird parody of Thanos?
Secondly, and this is a larger problem I have with their costume design.
You go for a slutty, skintight spandex swimsuit that doesn't cover any of the vital organs, and a bookshelf resting on your spine ready to break it if you take a bad fall...Into a career where people regularly get tossed into and through solid walls, and streets, and other such obstructions typically made of concrete, bricks, and metal. And the high heels...Good god stiletto high heels...Maybe this is why Jirou and Kaminari are my favorite, they're the only ones that seem to get what layered protection is, and even then that's a major stretch, and assuming their clothing is specially made of MacGuffin material, and they have some kind of protective vest under their shirts.
Next up, returning to my earlier point of breaking new ground, the few things that MHA DOES try out seemingly for the first time, the story fumbles it, and/or changes it mind halfway through about what kind of story this is trying to be.
Continuing with this comedy of errors, the overall theming of conforming to society's norms is stupid.
I mean you can't get much more in your face about his views when multiple notable villain characters that actually aren't one dimensional-and not just evil because he needed a new bad guy for the week-have some kind of mental illness (Toga and Shigiraki), are some kind of loose allegory to second class citizens-Burakumin, if you'd like to learn about one part of Japan's history of hating anything that doesn't conform TO THE LETTER-(Spinner), and do not fall in with the child centric heteronormative, strictly gendered ideals of Japanese society (Magne).
Which is why the Internships Arc was wasted potential, it opens up the idea that maybe, just maybe, a government run career field isn't all that high on moral integrity, and then just completely one eighties it by excusing Endeavour's bullshit because 'I'm so sorry for what I did, guys, really! I know I messed up by buying a person to be a slave for breeding purposes, and then abusing her to the point of experiencing a psychotic break. And I know it was wrong to beat my eldest son until he became a sociopathic edgelord, and do the same thing to my youngest son. But I promise I can change despite not having displayed any indication otherwise for upwards of twenty years!'
Hell, the whole needing a super-power to be a superhero thing doesn't even hold water.
The teacher is legit just a dude with some fancy eye beams, some fiber cloth, and a knife, in effect he's fighting at the level of a baseline Human. With perhaps some JSDF or some kind of special operative training but still just a regular guy in a world with people that can sprout wings and jump clear over entire office buildings.
But it doesn't work on someone with a Mutant Quirk, say an extra set of arms to grab him with, or a tortoise shell to tank his hits.
And yet he's still good enough to get into the Hero Class through the Sports Festival transfer route.
Midoriya *absolutely* could have been a Quirkless Hero, if he was willing to put the work in and not have a stupid deus ex machine to fall back on.
And yes, Aizawa got fucked up in the War, but he's in his thirties and managed to last long enough in the Hero field that it takes a conflict organized by a centuries old quote unquote 'Symbol of Evil' before he started to actually take irreversible, potentially career ending injuries. So, either he just didn't face anybody higher up than untrained thugs with Quirks that barely do anything-which in a country with as many people in it as Japan the odds of that happening are potentially astronomical-OR he's just that good at kicking the shit out of people even if they have Mutations he can't suppress that naturally help them in combat.
And hey, you know who else got bodied in the War? Miruko, Hawks, and Endeavour. Three of the highest ranked Heros in the country, regardless of their skillsets they should be able to stand against the Number One at roughly even ground, and he can change the weather of an area with his blows. But again, it took until the main story started before they had major injuries.
In conclusion, MHA sucks because it had such interesting ideas of what a society that Syndrome dreamed of could look like, and like RWBY, it explores none of it, introduces a metric fuck ton of side characters, explores none of those, and then the city blows up.

Yes the Plus Ultra thing with the tone is horrible. A good example of where I think MHA messed up it with the World Heroes Mission, so he just punches the mirror guy a lot and doesn't receive any damage? But didn't Deku just have an arc where he was getting away from punching? Why not show more leg combat? So what if he ended with a kick, which to me seemed like an afterthought. It ruined the previous arc with Deku. Also what Deku was in the hospital 5 minutes ago and now he's oneshotting Muscular? Wait how did he get all these new quirks? Like at least give me 3 episodes wheres he's working at getting he quirks activated and getting used to them. I mean there was like 3-8 episodes of him just learning how to use OFA at 5 percent. There was no show of growth there. They have messed up so many things by either doing the exact thing the previous arc was trying to get away from or just skipping an arc entirely. Like give me a 10 episode training arc where Bakugo, Deku, and Todoroki are training. Deku wakes from his coma to see Bakugo trying to recreate the explosions that allowed him to get to Deku so fast. Todoroki is trying to turn he flames blue and create ice so cold frost comes off it, he unlocks an ability to basically make dry ice. Deku learn how to use his new quirks, then Bakugo learns how to use his quirk in it's awakened form, Todoroki figures out that he can create steam explosions and just use ice a smokescreen. Like there was enough potential to create an entire season of just the power triplets training. I would've been fine with that, but no Deku just is magically super OP. They botched a perfectly good opportunity to make a "filler" season that people would have been happy with.

it could have easily done that by having some of the teachers and/or class 1A (or maybe even 1B) killed in the USJ arc. Because, come on; it's a big fucking villain assembly. In any other story 70+ powered up villains attacking 20 students plus some pro heroes would've been catastrophic. But no one important died, on both sides...
This arc destroyed all the stakes. In the context of the story, it could not have happen without one student dying. It makes the villains look like barking toy dogs.

So it does make sense especially when you consider that the villains knew nothing about the kids and put them in places they would thrive. Also they didn't walk out unscathed, both Aizawa and All might almost died and Aizawa remained injured for awhile. People don't need to die for their to be stakes it's just an easy way to do it
