I hear you, and in many cases it seems like the poor fuel economy of these 5th gen’s is compensated for by their insane resell values. I’ve also considered a 24 4R. 🤪🤷♂️
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 What i like about them is just how long they can last, and while you can get used ones that still have 100k left on them you never know how they have been cared for. That’s for sure! Peace of mind is almost priceless. I feel so silly having sold my supercharged FJ for like ~$18,500 or something with 93k miles about 7 years ago. I wish I could buy it back for that now, lol.
It should be noted on the window sticker. 🙂 It’s basically a factory suspension upgrade that has a few benefits including decreasing the nose dive these kinda have when under heavy braking. It’s not something many people seem to buy. And I think those equipment with it are also more limited in the reasonable suspension lifts that can be added later on (if ever desired). 🤷♂️🤪
True. Bought a 23 GX blackline in Nori after seeing where Toyota is going. The 2024 4Runner is the only other way I would've gone but like the V8 and third row although limited.
The number 1 concern for me about this vehicle is the crash test safety ratings. New vehicles have simply become so good with that. I love this Gen 5 bulletproof engine but at a costs of safety is very tough.
Absolutely agree! Front passenger crash test is a 3 star and overall it wasn’t even rated well 15 years ago. I actually just filmed and have on my membership program a video of my 7 issues with the 5th, and safety is reason number 2. I also have a 60k mile review to show how well one has held up. I love these SUVs but part of my reason for the “7 issues” video was to talk myself out of buying one haha.
Just talking about the loss of that power train makes me feel nostalgic. Too bad I can't afford one. Even a V6 Camry in any trim would be nice to have at this point.
Yeah absolutely! I filmed this video like 2 months ago but just recently did the 392 Rubicon. Driving that Jeep and enjoying the 6.4 (392) engine is also very nostalgic. A physically large and potent V8. I’m really sad to see engines like that also disappearing. 😢
Just got a 24 trd off road premium, went for a little break in drive today, wasn't really sure how i liked it at first, definitely all the reviews of front end taking a dive when u hit the brakes are true, going 80 down the highway even at that speed & rpm, when u hit a hill it downshifts, i did put it to the floor once just turning on a road & holy crap, i was a little surprised, it really has some low end get up. Overall for me, i think it will be a good vehicle, really looking for reliability & longevity at this point, the unnecessary amount of money that we working people spend on vehicle changes & repairs is just crazy at this point. Tired of being enslaved to this stuff, i have a 98 Tacoma & plan to keep these 2 vehicles til im push:in daises. For me, the new 4 runner has too much tech, but what do u do, they all are over technoligized at this point, figured i better grab this one before its worse
Have you owned it since new? I can’t imagine the new 2.4T will get much better MPG over the current V6. At least that seems to be the case with the 2.4T Tacoma and the new gen TT V6 Tundras, they make better power, but minimally more efficient from what I’ve seen. 🧐 Thanks for watching!
I would have bought a used 4R if the prices were justified. But I could get a NEW one for almost the same amounts. Bottom line is, IF you can buy a used one for a price you like, trusting them should not be a concern. They are dead reliable. I promote buying a USED 4R over new IF you can get a fair to good deal on it. Reliable, capable and very versatile machine. Mine is going to outlive me for sure. Probably the last 4x4 I ever buy.
I paid a lot for my 2019 SR5, but it only had 29,xxx miles on it, 3” King lift, SCS brushed copper wheels, 275/70r17 bfg ko2’s. Dealer had it ceramic coated/detailed at their cost of $2000. So with the lift, wheels, tires and detailing costing about $9k (in Hawaii) it was done up right.
it's so depressing how cars are getting worse and worse and worse and worse to the point of litterally falling apart after 1 year. What the fuck is going on with humanity
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Old Jeep? I'll take one lovingly restored shortly after the war ended. Most reliable one of those ever made! Still recall how the TV show **MASH** had a sub-plot that was only ever mentioned in one episode. How Radar was slowly taking apart a Jeep piece-by-piece and shipping the parts back home. Naturally to be re-assembled later. Try doing that with a modern Humvee! 😆
MASH was a good show! I’m just amazed Jeep still sells as many Wranglers as they do each year without legitimately updating or improving their on road driving unpleasantries. 🤷♂️😂
If it’s anything like the new Tacoma and Tundra we can expect a big price jump, minimal MPG increase, and uncertainty about future reliability, especially in the first 1-2 year models. At least that’s just what I’ve picked up on. 🤷♂️😝
Yeah, very good point! I actually made this video a couple months before I made it public. Once the 6th gen was officially announced and specs came out I figured it was time to post this. I have t drive. A 6th gen yet, but I bet once I do this will feel as out of date and inefficient as it truly is. Yet, I still would take one for a fair price haha. 🤪

I drive through a lot of mountains, I look forward to having a turbo…. 3rd, 4th,5th are all dogs climbing mountains. The ONLY one i’ve had experience with that did well was a Surf with the diesel. I wish i could track everyone trashing the new Toyotas and see their purchase in a couple years😂😂😂😂 always the same.
Good luck to you. I don't think it is wise to buy in the first few years of a new gen. The new Tundra is a mess. I'll check back in 5 years and see if they have all the bugs worked out.
@@inttruders yeah, but the tundra has always been a mess. Gen 1 was so weak, gen two had that problem with the droning noise form the cams, and the new one. funny thing is through all of that a LOT of them are still on the road. FWIW the 4 cyl iForce Max engine has been around for 10+ years
Been thinking of just pulling the trigger on a 2024 TRD Pro before it gets a turbo charger on it. I prefer cars with fewer parts that can fail

Literally bought a 24 TRD Off Road 5 days ago. Love it
That’s awesome! Did you go with KDSS or without?

Those GXs are sweet! Glad you found what you wanted. It sounds like the initial specs about the new 4R will be announced on 4/9!
Buy the most complicated electric car you can afford. It's the only way to glide gracefully into the future! Happy April fool's day everybody!
Exactly! Lol. There’s something nice about a simple vehicle that isn’t overly confusing and should last a very long time.

Thank you for sharing your experience with it so far! I hope you have a great ownership experience with it!
I recently bought a 2024 TRD Pro because I wanted the last year of the current gen 4Runner that is proven. I have no desire to beta test the 6th gen.
I own a 2013 5th Gen with stock suspension and wheels. I get about 16 on average. The gas mileage is the only thing holding me back on another 2024.
