Editing is pretty weird, if you're gonna have the translator talk over the person who's speaking italian then lower the volume of the italian so the viewer has a chance to actually hear what they're saying.

I used to work with a woman in our Media Relations Dept just like this guy. To her, the building rooftop was a helicopter pad to shuttle foreign spies and dignitaries in and out of the neighborhood, the stairwells were hidden passageways to avoid discoveries by patients who were using the elevators, the under-building parking areas were subterranean laboratories and cages where secret experiments were done, and our research projects on electrical brain stimulation were really intended to control human behavior. AND, she wanted to get it all on the national news. She probably works with this guy now. ;-)

Tax people for their own benefit. Have jurisdiction over a territory. Control the use of armed force in a territory.

thanks for the upload either way :P
on another note id suggest reading _Gomorrah_ by Roberto Saviano or watching _Suburra_ directed by Stefano Sollima they night be more about the Camorra than the other O.C groups from Italy *BUT* anything shining some light on the secretive and lesser known O.C groups _other_ than the Sicilian Mafia is always a bonus... I think a lot of ppl assume (wrongly) that the "Italian Mob/LCN" operates in and runs Italy in much the same way that it does America. North Americans grow up watching movies like _The God Father_ _Casino_ or _Goodfellas_ in their portrayal of real life Cosa Nostra like the NYC's "5 Familes" & Chicago's "Syndicate" and their now in/famous members.

  • @LondonPower
    @LondonPower 6 лет назад +21

The Calabrian word 'Ndrangheta derives from Greek ἀνδραγαθία andragathíafor "heroism" and manly "virtue" or ἀνδράγαθος andrágathos, compound words of ἀνήρ, anḗr(gen. ἀνδρóς, andrós), i.e. manand ἀγαθός, agathós, i.e. good, brave, meaning a courageous man. In many areas of Calabria the verb 'ndranghitiari, from the Greek verb andragathízesthai, means "to engage in a defiant and valiant attitude".
Mafia in Italy is a Greek case from a region call it Magna Grecia (South italy)...mafia is not criminal organisation but a movement of resistance from the local Greeks to northern invaders Lombards and Germans..
The really mafia in Italy is the pope and the government of Italy

In the 8th and 7th centuries BC, for various reasons, including demographic crises (famine, overcrowding, etc.), the search for new commercial outlets and ports, and expulsion from their homeland, Greeks began to settle in southern Italy (Cerchiai, pp. 14-18). Also during that period, Greek colonies were established in places as widely separated as the eastern coast of the Black Sea, Eastern Libya and Massalia (Marseille). They included settlements in Sicily and the southern part of the Italian Peninsula. The Romans called the area of Sicily and the foot of Italy Magna Graecia (Latin, “Great Greece”) since it was so densely inhabited by the Greeks. The ancient geographers differed on whether the term included Sicily or merely Apulia and Calabria: Strabobeing the most prominent advocate of the wider definitions.
With colonization, Greek culture was exported to Italy, in its dialects of the Ancient Greek language, its religious rites and its traditions of the independent polis. An original Hellenic civilization soon developed, later interacting with the native Italic civilisations. The most important cultural transplant was the Chalcidean/Cumaean variety of the Greek alphabet, which was adopted by the Etruscans; the Old Italic alphabet subsequently evolved into the Latin alphabet, which became the most widely used alphabet in the world.
Many of the new Hellenic cities became very rich and powerful, like Neapolis (Νεάπολις, Naples, "New City"), Syracuse (Συράκουσαι), Acragas (Ἀκράγας) Paestum (Ποσειδωνία) and Sybaris(Σύβαρις). Other cities in Magna Graecia included Tarentum (Τάρας), Epizephyrian Locri (Λοκροί Ἐπιζεφύριοι), Rhegium (Ῥήγιον), Croton (Κρότων), Thurii (Θούριοι), Elea (Ἐλέα), Nola (Νῶλα), Ancona (Ἀγκών), Syessa (Σύεσσα), Bari (Βάριον) and others.

    Good documentary.
We always focus on the drug lords, when will we focus on the drug users?. Pablo Escobar was killed almost 25 years back, was there any reduction in drug exports/imports?. Many Italian, Colombian, Mexican.... drug lords replaced him. If one group or country is taken down, another will come as long as there is demand for the product.
If people stop consuming drugs then demand and competition to export/ import drugs will come down, violence may also come down. Drug users should also share responsibly for violence, they are not just victims.

Would have loved to watch it all but I cannot understand them when you have no subtitles they're still speaking in Italian which is just as loud as your American interpreter might want to turn it down a little bit or just add subtitles

The sound of the translator is drowned by the sound of the person speaking Italian. You just cannot hear anything. As a channel that specializes in documentaries, you guys need to modulate the sounds way better, please do the needful.

Someone needs to fix the voice over in this video. It's better to have just stuck with subtitles throughout the entire video. Having the English voice over at the same volume (if not quieter) than the Italian makes it very difficult to follow along with what's being said, which is very frustrating.

  • @Michelle08027

Great doc.. however, you need English subtitles for when the voices are being dubbed in English over the men speaking Italian…or just add subtitles and take away the English voice dubbing.

Yeah it’s not because they can’t its mostly because they don’t want to die to corruption and mutual cooperation, for example the CIA has been cooperating with the mafia since the 50s when they hired them kill a Castro and evidence also suggests Kennedy if your research it because both operations came under “operation mongoose”
