  • We began looking at correct hip motion during the power punches in the Part 1 video. In this video we build upon that knowledge by making sure we have a proper stance. Again, this is when we want to deliver maximum power to our punches! There will be MANY times during the course of a boxing match when power isn’t the primary or even secondary concern. But when we want our bodies to deliver power, we must make sure our base, or stance, provides an effective launching pad for that power.
    EXECUTION
    1. Keep the knees slightly bent and the weight on the front half of the foot. Have a light heel. Relax the body. Let it fall into place.
    2. Don’t let your stance get too narrow or too wide. A narrow stance blocks the back hip and compromises our balance. No way we can throw an effective punch from a narrow base. Likewise with a wide stance - we may be able to throw a heavy initial punch from a wide stance but we won’t have an effective follow up punch and certainly can’t move step off afterwards.
    WHAT TO FOCUS ON
    • Any time we’re close enough for an engagement, the knees need to be slightly bent and the weight on the front of the foot. If we’re flat-footed and need to make a quick punch or move, we need to first bend the knees and shift the weigh to the front of the foot. That takes time. Remove that step by being there already. Prepare yourself for this in training.
    • Likewise, if our stance is too narrow or too wide and we need to punch or move, we need to correct it first. Remove those extra steps.
    • Don’t just think about your stance at the beginning of a punch or combination or round, think about it during and after as well. Make sure it’s not falling apart during the execution of a movement. If you need to move to the side, step with the outside foot first. Move forward - step with the front foot first. Move backward - step with the back foot first. Maintain the integrity of your stance at all times if possible.
    • Remember to continue executing what you learned in Part I:
    o Hips initiate punch
    o Hips stay back
    o Line up your power
    • Don’t move on to the next level until you’re capable of executing these techniques consistently.

    What knuckles do you hit with, or does it not matter when you wear a glove? Thanks !

      Akbar M the first 2 knuckles (index, middle) same as barefisted. They’re the strongest and if your fist is lined up straight it’s natural.of course it’s not always possible to do that.
      The most important thing to remember is squeezing your fist HARD and keeping your wrist straight.

    Hi sir.
    When making a right straight punch, do you include leg drive from the quadriceps (knee extension) to add power?

    • @PUNCHwithPOWER
      @PUNCHwithPOWER  2 года назад +1

      Good question. And yes, if you’re throwing for power, sit down on the punch, get some weight on the legs and get some push from the back foot to help drive the hip. Make sense? Don’t lock out, however.

      @@PUNCHwithPOWER What is the consequence if I lockout the knee of the rear leg?

    • @PUNCHwithPOWER
      @PUNCHwithPOWER  2 года назад

      @@christopherjohnblack3526 (1) it can affect your balance and (2) it removes that leg from immediate follow up action. If you need to move right after or throw another punch or slip after, you first have to re-bend the knee. It slows you down
