This review was great for my confirmation bias
I have this board 2023 version with union stratas, i will definitely be going with the pro version once this ones broken, i also am 195lbs so its a bit softer then i would have liked but it is a pretty decent all around board. I second the ice issue, definitely doesnt do very well in icy spots and if your into high speed it does chatter decently when your straight lining at high speed but over all not to much complaints good board all around.
I have the Salomon assassin 18/19, the first year of this new shape. I’m sure it is wayyy softer than this year, although they suppose to be exactly the same
Hi Angry, thanks for the review. Just wondering on the size. I’m an intermediate rider looking for an all mountain freestyle board. 172cm/66kg wondering if I should go with 150 or 153. Many thanks for you advice in advance:)
Get the 53.
Thanks Avran👌🏻
Dear Avran, I do love the way you review all boards, congrats man.. I'm really interested on the assassin. I'm 44, advanced rider, could you please advise the best size for a 5'9, 187 pounds? 156 affordable? Many Thanks in advance
56 or up.
Hi Avran. Thank you for the great review. I'm debating on whether to get the assassin this season as I want to try freestyels. I have the Mercury and I have enjoyed it in pow and for just ripping the mountain at high speed, but when it comes groundtricks, the sidecut/torsional stiffness made it really hard. I want to get a board to help me learn freestyles, and yet it provides decent all-mtn features, would you say assassin is the go-to? Do you have other suggestions? Thanks!
Get a twin board.
Hi Avran, great review of the Assassin! Been watching your videos the past few days for hours in the pursuit of finding the right board. The assassin seems to be the best fit tbh. Could you help me in finding the right size? I am 190cm (6"3') and about 94kg (207lbs), shoe size 11.5 (31cm long). Thanks a lot!
Something wide and 159 or up.
So probably 163w, thanks a lot!@@AngrySnowboarder
Hi Avran, Thanks for the review. I have been going to Mt Baker and Whislter in the past years (I feel comfortable ride down all the inbound routes some of backcountry as well). How is the assassin doing in the powder condition? Will it take a lot of effort to take tail press the whole time to stay flow? Should I look else where maybe a K2 instrument?
No, this board isn't aggressive by any stretch of the imagination. You clean back and this thing just stays leaned back.
Thanks!! Sounds like I dont need another directional board (like K2 Instrument cuz I just watched your video on it), or do I?@@AngrySnowboarder
Thinking about this board to replace my Rossignol one LF 2021. The one doesn’t seem to hold the best edge while carving in my opinion do you think this board would be better? Thanks a lot.
No.
Great review! Thanks for it. I’m in hesitation between assassin and Salomon Craft. I like to ride off-piste in trees, and starting to hit those S/M jumps and boxes. What would be your pick for these purposes between those two?
What's your ability level?
@@AngrySnowboarder I would say intermediate-advanced
Probably go with the Assassin.
Hi Avran, would you rather choose this one or Capita DOA for the all mountain and some freestyle board. I have two old Capitas: Quiver Killers (stiffer camber) and Horrorscope (soft rocker) and I’m looking for something in between. I would be grateful for advice✌️
I mainly care about riding pleasure, good grip at higher speeds and iproving carving abilities
Neither
@@AngrySnowboarder Hah, so I need to watch more of your videos. Do you have any recommendations?
Ride Shadowban, Jones Mountain Twin, Capita Mercury.
@@AngrySnowboarder Thank you, I have to check them
Hey Angry,
I've commented on a few of your videos now over the past week or two. I'm all over the place looking at boards. Want your opinion on what would suit me better. I'm an intermediate rider on groomers/resort style riding but trying to venture into the park/freestyle side of things. Looking for a board that will be fun and playful when messing around in the park but stable enough that I can catch a deep carve at decent speed when I want too. I do the majority of my riding on groomers but want to be able to progress in the park.
The main Boards in question are : Salomon Assassin, Yes Typo, Bataleon Fun.kink (all 2023 models)
Other notable boards are: Rome Warden or Agent, Bataleon Evil twin/Twin+
Any other boards that you think would be better, feel free to recommend.
Thanks! 🤙
Out of that list get the Typo it's the most well balanced.
@@AngrySnowboarder thanks man! Really appreciate it. At 6' 215 and size 10.5 boot, would you suggest the 159w?
Yeah definitely.
@@AngrySnowboarder cool! Thanks man. Again, love the videos. 🤙
Heads up for anyone who sees this. Not related but hope Angry keeps it up.
The Rossi Sushi is on sale at the house for 173 and if you've bought from there before and have a 50% off coupon you can be checking out and buying one new for about 87 bucks right now.
Sweet deal
Marketplace, just picked up a like new Signal disruptor with only one season on it for 200
Hey angry,
I can’t decide whether I should buy an assassin or an assassin pro for next season. My skill level is bigger jumps, spins, flips, rails. I prefer a board that I can be playful with have some steez and fun. Also some all mountain side hits and cliffs.
Which one do you think would be a better fit?
Thanks!
Honestly not this board.
Which board would you recommend then? Because I had like 2 test runs on the assassin and thought it was pretty sweet.
I also have an golden orca for more bigmountain stuff. I’m looking for more of an park board that I can also do all mountain with.
The tail on this washes out a bit due to the camber profile on bigger jumps. Great for jibbing but if you're going to hit anything bigger you want something a little stiffer. You would probably be better off going to something like a Ride Algorhythm, Rome Mod (not the rocker), or a Nitro Team.
@@AngrySnowboarderYeah I rode the ride algorhythym this year and I liked it but it felt a little lazy compared to the assassin where I felt like it was really playful with hood pop and wanted to go big. Thanks a lot for your responses Angry!
hi angry,
i am 5'10 about 150lbs and size 8.5 US boot
i currently ride a salomon craft size 153 and looking to upgrade my board for the upcoming season, would you say that either the assasin or capita doa are a good upgrade from the craft or will they be quite similar and not worth spending the money on ? also would you recommend the assasin or the doa more if it is a good enough upgrade?
my ability level is around intermediate, i can do some basic grabs on s/m jumps and like to hit drops on a good pow day and love boosting off side hits maybe with some 180s too
so basically stick with what ive got, or assasin or doa?
Somewhat of a lateral move. I'd say save the cash, stick with what you have, ride it till the rails come off.
@@AngrySnowboarder i currently have burton mission bindings, do you feel like i would be better spending money on new bindings? would union strata work well with a craft
@@AngrySnowboarder also appreciate the feedback thank you
Hi Avran, great review. How do you compare this with the Abstract? They seem very similar except for the directional twin vs true twin shape. Thanks!
Abstracts a fucking turd.
@@AngrySnowboarder haha OK
I have a 2008 K2 Zepplin but have the chance of getting a new (unused) 2023 season Assassin... Worth the upgade ?
It's going to ride completely different.
@@AngrySnowboarder i imagine anything developed in the last few years would be?
Yes.
This or Sight? For my first snowboard
Probably want the sight.
Thanks for the review. Did they stiffen it up like they did the Huck Knife or is it like the past seasons flex-wise?
Why would you get this over the Shadowban and vice versa? I’m insanely torn. Seems like the Assassin doesn’t fair as well in hard pack/ice. Also heard the Shadowban is just heavy overall vs Assassin being pretty light.
You ride more pow or have weak legs.
Is there difference between this and the assassin 2024?
Graphics.
Great review!
What are the main differences between this board and the fun.kink? And which board do you prefer between those 2?
3BT.
I got a season out of this board before I almost busted it in half 3 weeks ago hitting a cliff jump. I didn't even notice it until the next day. I almost got another assassin but I decided to try out the capita mercury. I hope I don't experience that hooky ride that people experience. So far It's pretty good.
How do you like the capita and is it the mega merc? rode assassin the other week and loved it. debating gettin assasin , the mega merc, or merc
@zakikhan814 it's the regular merc. I honestly love both boards. The regular assassin's a more playful and predictable day 1 ride. It feels like a board you have ridden before. Just enough snap to launch pretty well if you press it hard. It cradles features alright but to quote angry snowboarder "it's a bit of a balance board act in that regard" the capita merc however took me a couple of weeks of riding it to feel like I could use the board's mechanics to its fullest, I almost didn't like it at first. But after it clicked, what I realized is it feels best to control when you're at speed. It feels great to charge through chopped-up powder and chunder and it can lay a trench. it's a pretty damp board for that but also feels lively and responsive. I feel like it took way less effort to get the same air as I did on the assassin. So if you press it hard it will launch you. Some people say it feels hooky if you're going slow on certain icy conditions. I haven't experienced that but we have had a good snow year where I live.
If you like to charge hard and like airtime and if you don't mind the learning curve (depending how experienced you are it might feel great immediately) it's a good board. From what I hears the mega merc is more stiff and less forgiving, just more balls to the wall fast riding the whole mountain. The regular merc has just enough flex in the nose and tail to play around but again it really comes alive with some speed. Hope thats helps👍
@@Jacob-wd2pn Cheers for comment - I own a 2022 156 Assassin which was my first board I brought new and really enjoy it coming from rentals seems to be decent through resort and park coming from an Intermediate rider at best but only thing is I feel it maxing out speed wise when bombing the resorts on it and washing the back out trying to keep up with mates on skis (already a tall order) and wanting something to hold up a bit more at higher speed and pretty interested in getting a mercury or mega mercury (a local shop has a mega merc on sale cheaper than the merc) thoughts ? or is getting a slightly bigger say 158W Assassin Pro a better option - As I am size 11 boots, 6 ft , 167lbs and may be to big on a 156
how would you compare it to the bataleon evil twin in terms of energy, stability and presses?
Looser in the tips which means less power out of a carve, little less stable underfoot but not by much, presses easier though.
@@AngrySnowboarder thanks
Hey angry I’m brand new, would this be decent for my first board, I have years of skate experience.
No.
@@AngrySnowboarder really? Everything I’m reading is telling me to go with a medium-soft flex, hybrid camber, twin asym for my first board… I definitely don’t want a flat to rocker as I will be wanting to progress quickly all mountain, I’ll be going every weekend this season and don’t want to grow out of a board too quickly!
Out of the DOA, Ride manic, Ride kink, K2 broadcast, k2 manifest, bataleon whatever, or bataleon fun.kink? Thanks mate I really appreciate your input!
Is there a difference with the 2022 model other than the graphics?
Don't believe so.
he you use M or L bindings ?
Yes.
This or Nidecker Escape?
Sure.
@@AngrySnowboarder which do you think is better lololol
The Escape is so mediocre.
@@AngrySnowboarder thank you for letting me know. I am buying my first snowboard ever and I’m going through all your videos, trying to figure out which is the best All mountain board to buy.🏂👍🏽
How many days do you have riding?
