TOYOTA expert technician here: keep an eye on the front cover. They tend to leak on the v6 right where the front cover meets the head. If it does start leaking. Save some money, get you some genuine toyota "fipage" and re-seal the front cover (put alittle extra where the block and head meets, and any other areas like it)

@Smeedia there are so many aftermarket options for overlanding for those trucks. Definitely need a set of those abs spiked sleds for helping you get traction when you get stuck that was the first thing I bought when I started my overlanding build on my gmc sierra. Then the list after that is endless lol
Building Subarus introduced me to your content, and it taught me More than I ever thought I'd learn building my own 17 STI. I've got more to go on that journey and will certainly be referencing some of what you've done
But I'm a car guy as well, and I think the RX7, and the 911 are great. And sometimes when I drive around I see a modded Tacoma and want one too.
It's essential that you broaden your skill set and content. Keep up what you're doing. You've picked a great vehicle for it.

Toyota use to sell a supercharger upgrade "TRD SUPERCHARGER" they don't anymore... idk why it was pretty dope. They also at one point made a 5.7 v8 tacoma with a supercharger... only one though.
Our store manager has a lifted, 4x4 newer model land cruiser v6 with a supercharger.
Also has a land cruiser, one of the first models produced, with a ls7 supercharged in it. I can always hear when they fire that thing up, shakes the walls in the shop 🤣

Heck yeah man! My fiancee has a 2022 4Runner TRD Off Road, and we're in the process of making it a little more offroad/overlanding friendly. Currently it's kitted out with a rack and ladder from FrontRunner (I had FR systems on my Outbacks and Jeep Cherokee so I like their stuff), and we run a rooftop tent from Inspired Overland when we want to camp with just the footprint of the truck (bigger Gazelle T4 Hub Tent for ground camping, though). You'll love the Taco, dude. Enjoy and congrats on the new house! Happy for you, homie!

For upgrades I'd look at CBI for suspension and also look at all-pro off road. That's another great shop. Love Tacomas, I've had 2 and 2 subarus too. You're gonna love it. Looking forward to the upgrades and videos to follow. 🤙🏼

Ive got an old Dodge B350 van for towing and stuff. Still going strong. I bought the VA (low miles) late last year and just recently brought it up to 400whp, where it will stay.

Re: Tacoma mods: Bilstein 8112s are the real deal if you get that deep into it 😊 rear ends have gotten interesting with archive/BAMF shock relocation, hangers, shackles & Deaver leafs. Accutune is a good resource for suspension FAQ. Flatbeds are the tits, especially if getting a flatbed camper… gives you space & modularity for still hauling engines/work. You’d be surprised how much dead space there is with a slide-in camper. IMO rooftop tents are really overrated. Best cost effective option (ex backpacking gear) is an Aussie style swag on a quick fold cot and/or those shiftpod quick tents. Being able to stand & sit up in bed w/o being on the floor. Fridge is 10x better than a cooler.
Always excited to see the non subaru stuff but Tanner... CAN WE PLEASE GET MORE DRIVING VIDEOS. You make such well built cars but the most we ever see them driven is on drag strip or around town. I am not sure of the local area layout but some mountain driving or back round driving videos would be sick. I always feel like we are finishing builds and then starting a new one before we ever see it get driven.
We have a TON of track days already paid and scheduled for this season, drag racing, auto X and circuit racing this year 🫡

No needed ane explanation - Subaru and Toyota are my favorite brands, and they are working together today, which is very good, and Toyota's pickups are always number uno if it comes to a choice. Thank God, we have a choice! Wonderful, isn't it?

I started working at Toyota in 2017 in there vehicle quality performance department putting the first few miles on them so it’s a high chance I’ve inspected your truck congrats on the purchase yes the shocks are bilsteins as standard on the off roads trd pros got fox suspension the rack is sometimes spec out by tls before they hit the dealership floor

Completely understand. I normally have a daily that can tow and my STI. My Ridgeline tows the STI no issue and use it for my daily.

no need to explain, you chose one of the most reliable trucks out there. a rack to protect the back window is always a good choice since you are going to be hauling stuff in the bed.
Sold my 17 sti for a f-150. Best thing I've done. Definitely miss the subie but having a truck opens up so many opportunities.

Love the purchase, and I've been watching since 25k subs; personally I'm not burnt out on subi stuff, but I'm also enjoying all the different content.
Bilsteins are stock for ORs unlike sport or SR5. Drums in the rear are just fine. Disk conversion isn't worth the cost vs performance especially if you plan to take overlanding. But good on you to make the move, I made a similar move by selling two wrxs and bought my '17 OR W/a 6' bed, it's far too handy to ever get rid of 😅

I would also try to seek out a really good trailer so you have no problems towing old Blù. I'm super excited that you're starting a new chapter in your life and I knew you were having struggles with not wanting to be trapped in the Subaru world and that's why I would always polk fun at you a but I'm glad that you came out of the closet and admitted your attraction to Porsches.
Bilstein 6112, icon suspension add a leaf, upper control arms, and a supercharger is all you need.
dont forget, 285/75/16 tires, yokohoma A/t are more daily friendly and quiet on the road.

Yo Tanner. I sold my 08 Tacoma when I bought my 21STI. I miss that truck so bad. I drove it for 13 years and never had 1 problem. I'm starting the itch again and thinking of selling the 21 STI for a 24 4Runner. I loved that 07 but who cares. They are just cars. Can't wait to see what you do with the RX7.

Congrats on the truck! I have a 14 STI and a Ridgeline. We do "truck stuff" a lot. I don't think trucks mix well with added power. They just don't handle well enough with a high center of gravity and huge sidewall tires.
I always heard about a meme about people getting WRXs and then eventually shifting to, specifically, the Tacoma, never really understood it. I'd be down to see some overlanding stuff on the channel, also totally understand going to an auto transmission for a daily in those more traffic heavy places like Washington

Hey life happens congrats on the new house. Good choice on the truck not too big but capable. TRD has a wide variety of oem+ parts. FYI RC stands for Rough Country. They do alot of off road accessories. Spot lights lift kits rock sliders flares. I have one of their led light bars works great

Sold a Fiesta ST for 2020 OR. It’s awesome and no regrets. Suspension upgrades have more voodoo involved than tuning.
I did the same thing last year! I ended up getting the 6 speed too. Only downside is that the Taco community sucks. Everyone mainly talks about tires and suspension 😕 Going from a platform with a huge aftermarket support to one with limited performance mods sucks. Personally I’m working on making traction bars and facing a turbo kit for mine. If you want to be able to have a lil fun with the stock locker they due sell rear locker controllers to be able to swing it lol.
Consider OEM toyota 4runner wheels. The limited trim wheels are very nice throw soms good meaty tires and it looks great.
I know exactly how you feel man… I’m that way with Datsun Z’s. After doing so many over the past two decades, it was just time to move on. I’ve been finding my love building older VW’s I never got to own as a teen. And LOL about the humvee… I may have screwed up a hilux a whole lot in Afghanistan 🤣

hey, love the content! as for overlanding, don't listen to clap about you NEED tires lifts and all that other stuff.... 33s ko2s are just fine, recovery gear is a must winch and factory 55 tow rope connetic rope shackles and underbelly protection. the last thing you want to do is go out by yourself and get stuck by Cracking your diff covers, oil pan, or transmission/transfer case.

I'd love a taco. Reasons I may go with a Ridgeline instead: can fit a sheet of drywall/plywood between wheel wells in bed. Also, rear legroom is better and with the kiddos that's going to be a requirement. Otherwise I'd think the taco is the better choice.
If life allowed people to have everything work out, it'd be no different than a sit-com. Hope the truck opens new opportunities!

I went through the same thought process. I had a deposit down on a 2nd fun car. But I needed something for my wife to learn to drive in and tow my to be race car. I also wanted to do some mild offroading and overlanding. And I really didn't want a giant truck. So I canceled that deposit and got a truck. Though I went for a Colorado for the extra towing capacity.
I'm trying to keep myself from modding it too much while it's on tow duty, but every time I open hood I see lots of room for activities.
The 07 was nice....you served it well and it lives on!

Kinda sad. But I would definitely focus of having the space and resources to have a bunch of cars before "permanently" having a bunch of cars. That's kinda what I have to do for now.

Love toyota trucks just hate the seats in most models. Alot of them have non adjustable headrest which push your head forward. But they are amazing trucks.
Your Tacoma's towing days will be over once your overlanding build is complete. Yeah a Tacoma can tow around 6000 lbs, but they don't handle a big payload in the bed like a full size truck does, and a full-on overlanding build adds a lot of weight. You're gonna need that supercharger.
Supercharger or pro charger will 100% be happening looking at both options before pulling the trigger
Supercharger is the only way to go if you add a bunch overlanding stuff. Just giving you heads up. That weight needs torque to start moving.
