A thoroughly enjoyable watch. Your attention to detail is superb. Who'd have thought a video of a man in his loft could be so entertaining & educational. And not a train in sight yet. Looking forward to the rest of the journey.
Just loving your vids workmanship and advice. The flying Scotsman anniversary has inspired me to build a model railway and your incredible work from fiddle yards to 3D washing machines and all in between and beyond is just mind blowing! Thank you so much for the inspiration! And of course the incredible videos!
That back scence really does look great and a wonderful job you made of fitting it. I had a one piece vinly backscence printed by a local shop where I was working at the time. I only hope now that it is long enough or I will have to make a scenic break. All the best. Martin (Thailand) 🌲🌳🌲🌳🌴
It's good to have you back. Your interlocking blocks to flush up yours joints was quite clever; kudos! The curved corners look a lot better, very smooth.
looks terrific! your videos are great. the backscene curves are brilliant and the joins are hardly noticeable as you pan around. you can make them disappear completely by spray-painting some cloud-colour white/grey around the areas of the joins. I did that with mine where I had to make whole buildings disappear. worked very well. :-)
Pure genius adding those curves. The idea never occurred to me, luckily I am still in the very early stages and the back scene will be next. Thank you very much for sharing.
That new layout is going to be MASSIVE!!! You must be so excited to get going, this video really shows the scale of how much more room you have now. Fantastic!
A brilliant video. I'm learning so much just from watching how you approach what you are doing. I'm completely addicted, always watching RUclips for your next video. Best regards... Tim from Minnesota.
Love watching your skill set develop. I was shattered to hear the old layout was going to be decommissioned. After watching the new one develop I am excited to see where this one goes. Thanks for posting.
Looking GREAT!!!!...Definitely looks better with curved background...I really like how you slotted the supports in and great idea to make each piece lock into the other....
Very impressed, ingenious use of the double sided tape and Velcro, the curved back scene looks far better than a 90 deg corner, will certainly pay off the time spent doing it. Looks great, top job 👍🏼
Looks amazing. I like the way you involve viewers by informing the changes and why. Like the addition of the teeth the ensure the match. Thanks for another great video.
Thank goodness you’re back, just flicking through RUclips and happened upon you, been waiting for ages. Look forward to following your progress. Keep up the good work and a big thank you for sharing.
Another great video.. Very informative showing the exacting way to do the details. Must get some energy drink, so I can work as fast as you when you are not talking ... 😅 Well done and thank you for publishing so we can enjoy your work, and hopefully use some of your ideas to make us better modellers ourselves. Look forward to your next video showing your progress. x The Bigfella x
You’re not the only one! It’s killing me waiting for the track to go down!!! Looks amazing so far. Every stage is getting attention to detail. Impressive mate!
Hi Graham, you are very neat when you make something, I’m glad I’m not the only fussy person wanting to get it right. Your layout is looking great. Take care, regards Gary 😊
I'm amazed how much the back scenery already makes the layout look more real, especially given there is not even any track as yet. Great work and looking forward to your progression!!
Always love checking into your videos, English eccentric comfy sounding type guy, so pleased you are back doing your stuff. You're definitely my weird little secret, a massive change from my working life as a rock drummer. Thanks.
Eagerly awaited this update Richard. As always fantastic job on the video, great inspiration. Look forward to the next update. Nick, melbourne Australia
This will be a masterpiece. Very impressive. You would make a great TV presenter on one of those DIY shows.Quest should do a show with you, you would get 2/3 seasons out of it. Good length video too.Well done.
I have never built a train set layout. But I am so fascinated by this form of constructive art. In music this could be equivalent to improvisation (although of course I can see there is plenty of planning). In my opinion, creating something totally unique is the best kind of art. Very addictive to watch.
In the process of installing my backscenes and really like the idea of using velcro for fixing into place. Great video as always Richard and I hope I have similar success with the backscenes on my layout. Cheers, Jamie
Hello Richard, you haven't laid an inch of track, and already it looks fantastic.... now I'm really looking forward to further episodes! You really have this down to an art & science!! Well done lad!
The way you explain things is very understandable and your video's have helped me to make the decision to bring my railway in from the garden and shed 😘😁
Great instructional video. I did something similar when I built the back-scene on my current layout, although I used foam board as a back board as it was a lot lighter and easier to manoeuvre through my loft trusses. I also used velcro though to attach it to the uprights as I did not want to use screws through the relatively thin board. I also used ID Back-scenes as I also needed a nearly 40ft continuous picture. I used the self adhesive version though as I liked the plastic like material they are constructed of. Robin
Thank you, again you are very informative. Your new build layout coincides nicely with mine.(I started work in July 2017). I used PVA glue thinned down to fifty fifty percent with water to glue the cork on the base boards. The results are excellent, I am informed that you can go down to 20% glue to 80% water volume/ volume for paper adhesion, although I have not employed this dilution yet. I particular like your choice of back scene first rate
Love your videos Richard you have a very good knowledge of building model railways always loads of insight. Keep up the good work wishing you a happy Xmas and great new year look forward to seeing more progress with Everard junction. Thank you
As usual this is an excellent tutorial. Your attention to detail is unparalleled. If I may suggest a minor problem. Your background scene depicts bright colors and high resolution. In reality color saturation and contrast reduce significantly with distance, and all colors shift progressively towards blue or grey. If your background scene contains brighter, high contrast imagery that does not shift towards blue, it competes for attention with the foreground (your amazing model) . As a landscape painter, this is one of the most important concepts; atmospheric perspective. But after all I am nitpicking. Your layout is next next level and I know I will be watching this again soon. Cheers.
As good as the old layout was, I understand why you had to start again. However, you really seem to have addressed those issues. This looks absolutely solid and probably the most professionally constructed frame and backboards I’ve seen. I’m glad you featured Dean Park Station at the end there. You two are my top two RUclips channels and I’ve been following both of you for a number of years. Keep up the good work, I can’t wait to see more.
I have bendable MDF in the corners of my N gauge layout but I used too much glue when fastening the backscenes so it's wobly...you just gave me inspiration now to order the series 107(9 inches) and to get a hold of some velcro. Thanks. Regards from Denmark;-)
Excellent, as are all your videos. I had never considered model railways as a hobby. 16 months later I only have the back scene to add to complete my feeble effort. Bit concerned you do yours first, I automatically assumed it was the last thing you do. I guess in the next couple of days I will discover why🤔. But seriously thank you for your efforts, best model railway channel by a town to country mile..
They really are nice backscenes as witnessed on DaveClass47's Dean Park layout! I like the construction for the backboards..very good indeed. If I ever build another layout, doubtful at my age and the one I have taking all my time between shows, I would certainly copy your idea. Cheers, Bob
Ive been watching your youtube videos for years.. was dismayed to see the demise of your original layout.. but looking forward to your new build of Everard Junction.. hope you have a christmas 2017 update for us.. Keep up the great work 😀
Hi! There, you've done it again. Now I was completely fine with having the back scene of the layout I am currently building painted in light blue. Having seen your video, I am contemplating again doing a photo backscene... ;) Great job, as always!
you sure have come a long ways already, can't wait to see you start building and laying track again. Love the background.. I am wanting to start to build dioramas to do photo shoots with my HO scale trains but not sure where or how to start.
That looks very nice. I love the curved back scene. Can't wait to watch the first rolling train...I know I know, there is still tons of work still to be done.
Excellent work as accustomed Richard. Those joints where the boards meet really are difficult to get perfect aren't they. Thank you for uploading! Joachim
The backgrounds look great and you are right about the curves. One thought I had was the "wasted space" in the corner could quite easily house a nice little camera stand to use when shooting trains running on the layout. I am so looking forward to the next episode :)
Thanks for posting, your idea of curved backscenes is a very good one, though I have seen similar ones in the American hobby. But they are very effective and once the track and everything else is done, there should be a seamless change in the perspective from front to back.
Great video, watching your new layout is giving me more ideas and inspirations for my layout when it goes into the loft on regards to how big its going to be and what to do with scenery especially with the back scene may just paint mine instead
That came out really nice. One good side effect could be that you don't necessarily have to have the scenery meeting the backscene on a horizontal sense. So, if the track is in the foreground with the scenery dropping away towards the base of the backscene... when you move your eye/camera from left to right, the background will move at a different speed to the foreground, giving a more realistic perspective.
Purely by coincidence I bought some of the very same backscene today with the intention of fixing it tomorrow. I was going to fix it with wallpaper paste, but after reading the instructions earlier and watching this I now know the best way of doing it.
Brilliant. You have a real talent for taking a practical approach to all the little challenges as they arise, and explaining your thought processes as you find the solution. P.S. your loft looks uncannily similar to my own! I live in W London, house built in 1928 ... ?
@@EverardJunction Cool. Super seasoned roof timbers in that era! BTW, I see that Charlie Bishop follows your channel also. Now I see where he gets his scenics ideas from ...
Very nice back scene and curving the corners will save a lot of having to think of something to fill them and then having to break your back leaning across to model it. The joins will "disappear" once it is truly background as your eye will be concentrating on the rail/scenery action in front.
I've been watching your videos for years now and your patience, attention to detail and overall skills never cease to amaze me. Great work.

Fantastic job, you must be pleased with your couple of day's work, looks great. Cheers John.
Ingenious solution. Well crafted as well. Shows just how much thought went into the planning.

I like the titles in orange and the numbering! Makes it easy to view in order! Thanks Richard!
The attention to detail is incredible & consequently looks superb even at this stage. Looking forward to the track laying journey.

Same here. As soon as I got the update I immediately clicked on it. Needed my fix!
Click on Dean Parks now too....lol

Superb job. Learned a lot (as per usual). The curved corners is an ingenious approach! Looking forward to seeing some trackwork. Cheers!

Looking pretty dawn good .having the back drop flow around the the corner has made it look brilliant
Love the way you’ve got the backscene rounded at the corners. It’ll look even more realistic.
Excellent job there Richard, looks good , a lot of hard work has gone into that job , but well worth it.
Excellent work - looking forward to more and getting hints for building my own layout. I enjoy your how to videos!

some great ideas on how to do a proper back-scene... Once again glad you're back getting the videos out! Cheers
I look forward to your videos. Your innovation is impressive. Entertaining and informative.

Quality workmanship Richard, these back scenes are not easy to get right, fair play to you - you did a great job!

Thanks. I built the old baseboards when I was 17, didn't really have a clue about baseboards back then. The new ones should be far more reliable.
Nicely done Richard! I've been waiting for the next update and I am not disappointed. Thanks so much!!
Very nice! I'm very much looking forward to watching this new layout progress.
As below had to click on your video after making a nice cup of PG and settling down with some chocolate digestives.... Great to have you back Richard.

Not only instructional but inspirational. Great job all around

Outstanding!!! Love the new look, can't wait to see more.
Brilliant job Richard the back scene looks fantastic
Great job on the bench work and back scene. I picked up a back all done which was great, since I am sure I would have messed it up.
Excellent progress Richard, coming along nicely
