    My least favourite and most unsuccessful task on the layout - Backscenes. I messed up on the original ones around the walls of the room and, true to form, managed to mess up again with these latest ones!
    I’d read that diluted PVA was good for adhering the Backscenes - it was supposed to give enough time to allow adjustment but mine just stuck instantly. Don’t know if it was the PVA. I didn’t even know it went out of date!!
    My main aim was to get Backscenes that I could match into the corner where the existing one finishes near the country garage which I think has worked ok?

    I share your pain regarding backscenes, but the end result is great. I think you've got a really good match between them and the colours on your foreground scenery - they blend in together superbly.

      Thank you! I do find it difficult to blend them in. Hopefully they work ok! 👍

    I used PVA but used the absolute minimum with only a sheen on the backboard. Then rolled the paper out pressing down as it unrolled. Worked a treat. No ripples or bumps. Thanks for sharing your great layout. Hugh

    Looks great and can only agree, wallpaper paste is the way to go with a backscene! Shame about the joint but like the tree. My layout suddenly gained a factory with a tall chimney for the same reason!

    The end result looks really good 👍 worth the effort a little tip when cutting thin plywood use the saw flatter not so vertical you’ll find it a lot easier to cut cheers Al

    I wouldn't call that an epic fail at all. They look superb. These backscenes are a pig to get right - I've yet to find a reliable and fool proof method for fitting them. What I have found is that once fitted, it can help to mix up some acrylic paint to match the greenery and sky colours, and also sponge on a bit of white to cover joins/tears etc.

    I feel your pain. Im still not happy with my backscenes. Ive screwed a couple up in the last 6 months in frustration and thrown them in the bin 🫣🫣. There is definitely an art to it!!
    Your end product looks very good though 👌

    That backscene gives your layout a lot of extra depth! One suggestion: You could place a few large trees around the spots where the picture mirrors. This will get the view just enough out of balance to increase the realism.

      @Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt  Год назад +1

      That's a great idea! I should have paid more attention when I got these. I didn’t realise they were mirrored (and right in the centre of the scene). Not sure if they will stay. I was hoping for more hills and less sky toward the tunnel entrance area. I may change them yet!! 👍

    Score both sides of the plywood before sawing to minimise wood shatter. Use a fine tooth saw. When you need to adjust the paper you need to "size" the paper and backwall first, let it dry then apply paste again to back of paper.
    Oh how the experts throw their comments in afterwards 😢😢😢😢

    Surely some company can come up with backscenes that are easier to install, and at the right cost. Seriously, modellers are being ripped off with the cost of these backscenes. I do not deny businesses the right to make a profit, but the mark ups on many model railway "accessories" including backscenes is ridiculous, and puts quite a few people off the hobby.

    Tip don’t use a cross cut saw on plywood.
