  • Hello thanks for stopping by to take a look at what has been quite a busy time here at Colwich.
Work on the MGR train is still on going, with weathering being the order of the day. With just over twenty HAA’s now in the rake it’s about time that the pristine look disappeared.
Working with a few simple paints and powders the wagons are now hopefully becoming a little more realistic in their appearance.
I’ve been using “oil brushers” from the the Mig Ammo range (rust/ grime/ mid grey) to tone down the shiny metal hopper sides & also using some TAMIYA weathering pallet powders to further dirty the wagons.
The under frames & running gear have had a quick blast with the airbrush (when time has allowed!) I’ve been using RailMatch sleeper grime & plain old Vallejo black for this task, so far I’m pretty happy with results.
Attention now turns to the factory weathered Hornby wagons, which to be fair aren’t too bad, so hopefully they will be a quick turnaround. This time I’m currently thinking that I will stay away from the graffiti as I’ve used that on quite a few of my other freight rakes…
EFE Rail class 58 039 has joined the roster here over the last few weeks & it’s a belter!
One of my favourite diesel locos in real life & since the arrival of the Cavalex 56 & hoppers, it’s given me the perfect opportunity to indulge in owning what to me is a brute of an engine. Definitely not a looker, function over form is definitely the order of the day.
I would have liked 039 in Coal sector livery as it was named “Rugeley Power Station” - which stood not far from my house until a couple of years back…maybe that could be a future purchase?
As per usual I turned to ‪@roadsandrails‬ for an 8pin Loksound sound chip & double mega bass speaker sound set up, which hasn’t disappointed, it’s a powerful sounding beastie!
🎦Now I must move on to what is the elephant in the room - Security🎦
Massive shout out to ‪@doubleodave‬ at “Liberty Junction”
Check out his channel if you haven’t already, it’s brilliant & funny!
Quite unique, there’s a possibility that “Ladder Man” has been spotted here at Colwich. Not 100% sure it’s him, but he has been in a spot of bother up north, so he might be trying to lie low for a while, I’m not really sure…
Disclaimer I promise that I won’t be doing anymore of your style security clips Dave!
Thanks for taking time out to stop by.
    Stay safe & happy modelling.

Oops looks like I missed replying to you!
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at the layout. Ladder man is definitely in demand in the modelrailway world now, he’s getting a reputation for quite a few different reasons😆
He hasn’t been seen round here since the video was shot and he was captured lineside checking out my wagons!
Hopefully he’ll get round and sort your shed out soon!
      Cheers John b 😎

Hello, what a wonderful railway you have put together, well done. Love all your rolling stock. I spent most of my working life on our railways, I am now retired. I love all railways, steam, diesel, electric but your modern image layout is truly amazing. Keep up the good work and best wishes. 👍🚉🚇🚆

      Thankyou Martin.
I’m glad you enjoyed watching the layout in action. It’s all loosely based on what i see most days when I’m walking my dog alongside the WCML, non of it is exact, just what’s in my head!
Looking back I wish I’d have worked in the rail industry at some point instead of aviation…

RUclips just suggested your channel - nice stuff, indeed! I also liked the shout-out to OO Dave - I enjoy his approach, too. You both make me feel very sluggish about making progress (or rather, not...)!

Well progress here stalled sometime back, finding time is the biggest frustration with this hobby I find.
The southern end of the layout has been waiting for completion for at least 2 years now, I could do with getting on with it as the running shots are nearly all of the same section!
Thanks for watching & taking timeout to comment👍👍

Definitely one of my favourite diesel locos!
I remember them hauling MGRs as a kid, always stuck with me not sure why🤔
Maybe it’s because I remember them being brand new when everything else was already quite old (except 56s). It’ll be good to see one running again, always a shame that they were underused….

    • @colwichjunction3366
      @colwichjunction3366  6 месяцев назад +1

Thanks for taking a look, I’m currently getting plenty of practice weathering hoppers at the moment!
Normally I like to try & just represent a specific type of train without being too accurate, the layout isn’t that big…, but with these HAA’s I’d like to get close the the typical rake of 30/32 & the fact that the Hornby versions can be found at a fairly reasonable price makes it achievable.
The Cavalex 56 could probably pull every piece of rolling stock that I own anyway😁
      Cheers John b😎

Nice video. Tidy model is the 58, back in the day i also used to use actual coal dust, the old Werneth incline route & the surrounding old cotton mills had a fair few lumps of coal to smash up to use as weathering powder & make loads for the HAA. Will have to keep an eye out for ladderman, just hope if he comes to Blackpool its for ice cream & fish & chips

Thanks, I’m pleased with them so far there’s a bit of a production line going on here!
It looks like the rake is mainly going to be made up of the Hornby wagons as they are more readily available second hand.
I do prefer the Accurascale ones, but I’m not too fussy as long as there’s enough of them to look fairly realistic. (Anyway don’t tell anyone, but some of them have the same running numbers😲🤫)
Thanks for taking a look & commenting.

      @@colwichjunction3366 Hi John,
Ha ha your secret is safe with me!
If it is any consolation, I have quite a few of the Hornby MGR wagons & although I concede that the newer versions made by Cavalex & Accurascale are superior, however, once you weather up the Hornby wagons, from normal viewing distances they look great to me. The other consideration of course would be ‘upgrading’ to the newer variants has a cost implication too…..
      Happy modelling. Colin.

    • @colwichjunction3366
      @colwichjunction3366  6 месяцев назад

Yes Colin the cost is always there nagging away, but like you say the Hornby ones aren’t bad at all. I’m tempted to try at least one pack of Cavalex wagons just to see how they compare to the Accurascale ones. I the meantime I’ve got another 4 Hornby HAAs due to arrive!
      Cheers john b😎

We've just stumbled across your channel, and I've watched it with my grandson. What a great layout. He really enjoyed watching it, and we both agree with you. It's definitely double 0 Daves ladder, man. My grandson enjoys filming his model railway for his Dylington Model Railway channel, I don't know if you've seen it. He's not doing a bad job of filming it, give it a watch if you've not seen it, it's all 100% rule one. We've turned off the comments for his protection due to his age (12). However, if you do decide to give it a try and want to comment, you can on the Christmas one. Or you could do it on here. Just mention the name of the video you're commenting on. Anyway, we've subscribed and will be grabbing a cuppa and a biscuit when my grandson is up at the weekend and will be watching somemore of your videos... Cheers James 🙂👍

I have noticed the channel name before & I’ll certainly give it a watch👍
It’s good to know your Grandson loves filming his railway, I do watch quite a lot of other RUclips channels, it’s a really great side of the hobby. I’ve got so many ideas & tips from watching others videos. Thankfully I find most people kind towards my posts.
There are always ones who can be over critical, sometimes the criticism can be taken in a positive way, others are just plain odd I find!
At the end of the day “rule one” definitely applies 1️⃣⬆️
      Just enjoy the hobby.
      Cheers John b😎

The idea is that he will be doing as much of the work on it as possible ...Cheers James 🙂👍
