That's a great routine. Just be careful with that soap. It can be very irritating for some people. I don't have sensitive skin and it always dried out my skin when I used it and caused my face to get red and itritated...not from the kojic acid in it but most likely the other, not so good ingredients in it. Definitely don't want that with melasma. Heliocare or SunIsdin is a staple. So is Glutathione with NAC. Thanks so much for sharing! 💜
@@runjhunmalhotra5770 yes I do but be very careful. I use my AzA 15% finacea foam first and then my tretinoin which is the lowest you can go (0.025%). Also keep in mind I worked my way up to using them together and it took about a month or so.
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri absolutely agree 💯 Kojic soap is definitely drying. Since my skin is dry and sensitive I don’t let it sit very long and will usually follow it up with a CeraVe cleanser or milk cleanser from Japan. Also because I follow it with green tea toner (and sometimes a Ginseng toner too) maybe that’s why I haven’t had any issues but you know….skin is so funny🤦🏻♀️ as I continue to age I’ve figured out quickly it takes an eagle eye and constant monitoring🧐
After years of combating melasma, I added in Alpha Arbutin to my routine last year. It made a huge difference! The Ordinary actually recommended this when I took their quiz. I will give mandelic acid a try now. Thanks!
This video was so helpful! I wear hats every time I’m in the sun even running errands and I never knew about the “heat” around the band increasing hyperpigmentation! Thank you for the info! I’ll still wear my hat to prevent UV damage but that was so interesting that will help me not get discouraged
Yes heat is a major trigger for melasma. Even things like hot yoga, sitting in a hot car, blow drying our hair etc can trigger melasma flare ups...melasma is so rude!!! 🤪
I have melasma too and heat is a huge and sneaky trigger. I had that same crown of pigment on my forehead as well as on the top of each cheek and temples. Turns out it was my hat sitting on my forehead in that same strip/area and where my sunglasses touch my face during my outdoor runs. I now wear my hat above my hairline but make sure the brim is still wide enough for coverage. I still get melasma all over the place, but I try to minimize that additional heat caused by contact because it adds up! I’ve successfully used 12% HQ off and on for a year and have seen drastic improvement. We’re all different so I totally respect the avoidance there. I was just so desperate because with spf, wide brim hats, avoiding heat at much as possible, and using skincare with wimpy percentages of inhibitors for so long just wasn’t cutting it at all. I’m always so jealous when I hear others are successful with those products 🤷🏻♀️😉💕
Omgosh I know right, heat is so sneaky. I love those baseball hats by the brand Mission that have the cooling bands inside but they don't make large brim floppy hats. I may just get the cooling cloth they make and cut it and put it inside my floppy hats and see if that helps. Try Maui Jim sunglasses. Those are my faves. A little pricey but they don't heat up. They are polarized so I NEVER squint and they never get hot. Wow that's so awesome to hear you had great results with high % hydroquinone. I'm way too chicken to ever try because literally everyone else I know who has tried anything higher than 4% has experienced permanent darkening pigment. You are the 1st with a positive result that I've heard from. So that's good to know. Thanks so much for sharing. 💜
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri I was chicken too! But I was starting to look like Super Mario with my melasma ‘stache and concealer+foundation was no match for its power 😂 I’m in so many meetings daily, and when that’s the first place you see eyes go, it hurts. 2% arbutin, 3% tranex, 10% azelaic, mild exfoliation, THD vit c, and 4% HQ (taking breaks in between) completely ineffective. I do the 12% for 3 months (only once a day, and all those other ingredients in the morning), take a 3 month break, and I’ve been good so far. I’m still searching for something effective for maintenance on my off months, though. It slowly starts to come back. I’ve tried Cyspera too, still using it nightly but I’m not sure it’s doing anything. I gotta try those glasses, thanks!

Great video and yes, I would do 592 steps if it meant being free of melasma! Question: Have you ever tried the Fade Serum from MakeUp Artists Choice (MUAC)? I hesitate to use it because it does have alcohol in it and some drs say to avoid that if you are sensitive with melasma and pigment easy due to my spanish heritage. I'm thinking using the Fade serum (along with my tretinoin), and then add azelaic acid, and tranexamic and most bases will be covered? I'm still looking for a vitamin C that doesn't clog my pores or make me red and sensitive.... I think I must have done bad things in a past life as I have terrible luck with my acne, sensitive, reactive, clog prone, hyperpigmented, melasma skin... Also have you tried the skinceutical Discoloration Defense. It has Tran. acid, kojic, niacinamide. I would love to know if its worth it as I have wasted so much money on products that don't work or break me out.
Hi there, I've never heard of the 1st brand you mentioned but yes I've tried the 2nd one from Skinceuticals a few times and no results. 😫 While I love some products from Skinceuticals, I find that particular serum to be basic and way overpriced.
Helpful… great tips. But the Neostrata products you recommended - the vitamin c and the serum for dark spots have not been effective at all in my experience. The vitamin C is oily and caused an acne breakout. The dark spot serum I used for 3-4 months and it did not fade my hyperpigmentation in any way at all.
Great recs, Sheri. Have you ever tried Meladerm? It has a ton of ingredients that help with melasma and hyperpigmentation, and I've found it really effective. I also like the Advanced Brightening serum from Allies of Skin. As for those thinking of trialing hydroquinone (4%), I've found it works best as a compounded formulation with 0.05 Tretinoin. ❤
Yes I have. It's nice for maintenance AFTER the melasma has already lightened up. I agree, 4% hydroquinone is nice (not by itself) but when mixed with other pigment inhibitors like tretinoin or L ascorbic etc. 💜
Hi, Grace! I recently got and started using the Even Tone Super Glow Serum product... I noticed that it has a weird smell (like chemical), is it supposed to smell like it or is it fragrance free? I bought it on Amazon, perhaps is a dupe...🤔
I love your videos! Question I have a lot of hyperpigmentation, how would I know if it’s a result of estrogen dominance, that you mention? Would my primary doctor be able to test for this?
Holy cow! THAT'S why my forehead gets darker when I wear my visor! My melasma is on my orbital bones mostly, and I get so hot in hats (Florida) so I wear a visor with a solid band. I thought totally covering my forehead would be better but it keeps getting worse!
I know right. They have those cooling cloths you can buy on Amazon. I now just cut a strip off, and put it inside my hat. When the cloth gets damp it cools. It helps a bit. Or I wear a Mission brand cooling hat and those seem to help some as well but the friction of the hat rubbing still triggers melasma so we can't win LOL
It’s A Lot of work!! The left side of my forehead looks ridiculous today. I Completely understand! Lots and lots of sunscreen and big upf hats are a Must. 💖💖
So good to see you again our Little Mermaid. Great tutorial Sheri, I’ve been using Agency dork spot Tx. Now on maintenance for ? 3 months which has kojic Acid, reservetrol ( spelled wrong) and a couple other ing. But even after 3 months of Hydroquinone and ? I’m just not seeing any results, if any my hyperpigmentation is worse. So, I’m going to order the Arbutin again, and the others u was using and start doing this routine. Yes I love love Avene Cicalfate lotion for my dry, dehydrated skin. So, you say that the spf you used dries down and is not sticky and or wet feeling? I’m going to half to try it if so, but I am so fair skinned. Lol. Have a great time on your and hubbies cruise
Don't get discouraged. Sometimes that happens especially with melasma. People with regular hyperpigmentation or just dark spots often see really fast results with this routine but melasma can be stubborn. Definitely up your sunscreen game. Make sure you are applying enough AND reapplying every few hours as well. Spf once a day isn't enough if we're trying to fade excess pigment. Just 2 minutes walking from the mall to the car in the sun will darken that pigmentation up again so also get a good sunhat. 💜
@gracefulbeauty - I love your transparent and helpful videos! You have such beautiful skin. I want to mimic your routine because I have been struggling with with hyperpigmentations for years. You've shared so many different products over the past few years but which ones are you currently using of have been your holy grail to diminish hyperpigmentation and melanoma? What is your favorite Vitamin C serum? I've tried several brands like Tinted, Naturium but they all make me breakout with small tiny bumps on my cheeks and forehead and during the day it causes my makeup to look crepey which makes me wonder if it's too drying to use during the day which I know is the best time because it's antioxidant. For those of us on a budget, can you share a minimalistic "hyperpigmentation and melanoma" skincare routine? You've shared many videos on Derelect Self Esteem Beauty serum. Would you please share a link of the video on how often you use it? Do you alternate every other night with your retinal (Medik8)?
Thank you! Here is the link how I use Dermelect Self Esteem serum ruclips.net/video/LcD2IVSg52I/видео.html Just look for a C serum without L Ascorbic. @@GracefulBeautyWithSheri I'm trying to decide which products to get. Do currently you use all of the products mentioned above? If I use Dermelect Self Esteem serum, then would I still need to use Mandelic Acid and Vitamin C? I'm guessing not because the Dermelect serum has AHA/BHA and L ascorbic acid in it. If I don't have to get mandelic or vitamin C then would you confirm if the following is all I would need? - Cleanser - Dermelect serum - Azeleic Acid - Alpha Arubitin - Niacinamide - Retinaldehyde - Day moisturizer - Night moisturizer - Sunscreen for AM Is there another brand with most or all of the tyrosinase inhibitor ingredients? Have you tried Maelove? I am trying it now. Not sure if it's work but only have been using it for two weeks. I am desperate to get on a good routine without breaking the bank to target melasma and hyperpigmentation. I've tried so many things that haven't worked but was very encouraged when I saw this video. I just need some guidance as to which products so I can start and plan on sticking with it for a year. I think the problem in the past is that I only used one or two products for only 30-60 days and got frustrated that it didn't work. But now, thanks to you, I understand it's important to be consistent and play the long game for best results. I hope to get a response from you. Thanks Sheri! 😊🙏
If it isn't an L ascorbic acid form of vit c serum then I don't wait. I layer things one after the other. 🤗 I'm not sure what form of Vit C is in your serum.
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri also, after watching one of your videos, I’ve been using and loving these: neutrogena stubborn texture cleanser, papa blemish serum, dermelect serum and city invisicrepe body balm❣️🥰😘🤗 thank you 🤩
@@shirleysi3213I’ve thought about doing that but not sure which one is best for skin of color because most treatments work only on Caucasian skin. Which one did you go with and did you like the results?
Sheri , I used your code to buy these products !! The exfoliating cleanser is a bit tricky to use because if you use it on your forehead , even traces of it can get in your eyes and sting ….ouch !! Sheri , the next morning , what cleanser do you like to use? I find that it’s hard to get the azelaic acid color off my skin with my oil cleanser.
Hi there! Are you adding a bunch of water with the cleanser? I don't, I just use the 2 pumps on dry hands and face, massage it in THEN lightly wet my hands and keep massaging and then all done, now rinse off. No need to have it dripping down in the eyes.yikes! It's like a treatment cleanser. It's not one to remove product buildup or anything like that so if you use it at night use a makeup remover 1st. 💜
Which azelaic acid? The Q+A brand one I showed is clear on the skin. It pumps out with a white sheer serum like tint. It should wash right off. But I like to use this acid cleanser in the morning even if I don't do this routine in a.m. since I use Vit C in a.m. or I use Cerave foaming face wash or Avene Extremely Gentle Clenser or Neutrogena Stubborn Texture or IS Clinical Cleansing Complex..I mean, I rotate many different cleansers so it really just depends what's in my rotation at the time but those are my current ones. 💜
Also why do you use an oil cleanser in the morning? Is it an oil to foam cleanser like from Avene? If it's a DHC oil cleanser or something like that I'd use that at night and follow with a 2nd water based cleanse after. But of course if it works for your skin what your doing, keep doing it. 💜
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri well , I use an oil cleanser first (Hadalabo brand) to wash off my SPF from the day, then rinse , and then on the still wet face , I use the exfoliating wash . I guess I should dry my face first before using the exfoliating wash so it’s not mixing at first with water , making it runny. Lol
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri my mistake , it’s the Vitamin C featured in your video , not the azelaic acid although I bought the same one you were using in the video as well. I think I assumed it was the azelaic acid because the vitamin C goes on clear at first but I now see it’s when it dries down that it gives it that brownish appearance . I think I’ll try using the exfoliating cleanser in the morning too like you do and not the oil cleanser (which I realize is really only necessary to remove SPF or foundation , makeup) or any of the others you say you use. Thanks for the ideas Sheri !!
So the first cleanser did you feel any tightness at all i do have melasma and starting tret and im looking for a gentle cleanser im also going to use aVeeno oat cleanser , thanks hun i really enjoyed this video and i will be following 😊
Not at all. It's a super gentle exfoliating cleanser. That's the key with melasma...you don't want to cause irritation because that will lead to inflammation and then that will lead to darkening pigment. But it's still strong enough to see a difference. I can use it daily, it's that gentle. But I don't. I like to use my Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser a few days a week to give my skin a rest or sort of a "fast" from actives. 💜
Don't use it in the same routine as Tret though. And if you are new to Tretinoin, avoid starting acids. Keep your routine and other products super gentle and don't try any new products till you see how your skin reacts to Tret.....for at least a good 6 weeks. Trust me on this. Simple is best when starting Tretinoin. 🤗

Hey Melissa, no we're on Cunard Queen Mary 2 headed back to the USA. We were in Spain yesterday and England in a couple days. Will definitely be going back to Italy soon. 💜
Yes a few years ago they were kind enough to send me a bunch of their products to test. I never repurchased anything. I didn't notice anything remarkable when using. But there wasn't anything bad about them that I didn't like, just kinda basic and didn't do much for my skin. 💜
I'm not 100% sure but my brother (he is my full blood brother) recently did his DNA testing and it was mostly British and 15% Nigerian. I may do mine someday but I've heard strange stuff about what they do with the DNA.
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri well if he’s your full brother than I don’t see why you would need to do yours as well. Because they definitely are doing crazy stuff with ppl’s DNA… thanks for replying! 💓
I personally alternate this type of routine with my retinol routine or do this during the day and my retinol at night. As long as I'm using a few melasma inhibitor type ingredients in my routine each time, I'm good. This is just an example in case someone likes exact details. 💜
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri could you make a video on your routine if you’re going to be outdoors, as well as how you tweak this routine on nights you use retinol. That would be great. Thanks for your response and the info
Use plain Vaseline at night. During the day if you can use a physical bandaid/surgical tape I'd do that for at least a few weeks. As soon as you get inside you should use a silicone scar gel/patch to help keep it flat so it doesn't become a keloid. If you can't wear a bandaid use a ton of very high SPF. I had sixty stitches in my face and have almost invisible scars. Good luck!!
Silicone is great and sunscreen is a must or it definitely won't heal. I also really like Neogenesis Growth Factor Serum. It's quite pricey but it works very well. I have a discount code for that if needed but maybe try a scar gel or silicone 1st. 🤗

Estrogen dominance is treated with Utrogestan its a progesterone tablet take 1 at night doesn't cause cancer see Louise newson on RUclips. The Utrogestan is a micronised progesterone it balances estrogen note progesterone leaves us first then estrogen. The estrogen dominance causes the following insulin resistance increased cholesterol increased blood sugars Wright gain skin rashes melasma vaginally aptpphy (not reversible best to avoid) and night sweats plus hot flushes. The lack of progesterone causes mood issues ie short fuse anxiety depression crap sleep low libido. Agitation no patience. There's 80 symptoms of peri and menopause you probably have more than you realise I did
Thanks for sharing. I'm skipping any HRT until absolutely necessary. My mom and my older sister never took anything and did fine so I'm hoping I'll do ok. I actually don't even take medicine unless super necessary (not even a Tylenol unless absolutely needed.) I do take supplements for estrogen dominance, which do really help and I avoid certain foods which can increase estrogen dominance. But I'm sure if it gets worse, I'll look into bio identical hormones. Thanks again for sharing 🤗

I wonder if that's from the part of your forehead that's exposed while driving? Darn sun. 😫
Would love a look into your cruising life!
Do you have Instagram? I post more stuff there. 💜
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri thank you Sheri. Yes, I always wear 1/4 tsp on my face and 1/4 on my neck and chest.
I like to use the more stable form of Vit C and the stable ones never break me out. Here is my current hyperpigmentation day routine ruclips.net/video/yurQpQjicpc/видео.htmlsi=3-zrPGgUfkQ345Gq
- Cleanser
- Dermelect serum
- Azeleic Acid
- Alpha Arubitin
- Niacinamide
- Retinaldehyde
- Day moisturizer
- Night moisturizer
- Sunscreen for AM
Is there another brand with most or all of the tyrosinase inhibitor ingredients?
Hi Sherri, I ❤ using Pur d’or s vitamin C oil, didn’t know about waiting time and will have to add azaleic acid to my regimen. Thank you ❣️
If it isn't an L ascorbic acid form of vit c serum then I don't wait. I layer things one after the other. 🤗 I'm not sure what form of Vit C is in your serum.
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri also, after watching one of your videos, I’ve been using and loving these: neutrogena stubborn texture cleanser, papa blemish serum, dermelect serum and city invisicrepe body balm❣️🥰😘🤗 thank you 🤩
Laser treatment is the final solution after I tried many products in the market.
@@shirleysi3213I’ve thought about doing that but not sure which one is best for skin of color because most treatments work only on Caucasian skin. Which one did you go with and did you like the results?
Great information. I use both of those Avene products. They are wonderful.
The best! 🤗
Hello!
Thanks for sharing, so enjoyed your video 🌞
Glad to hear that. Hope you're having a great day!💜
A lot of great info. Thanks so much
Glad it was helpful!
Great video and thank you friend! 💗
Thanks for the visit gorgeous!🤗
Thank you so much, I am tired of dealing with my face
LOL it's definitely annoying at times. Darn melasma 😫🥴🤪
Love your good tips.
Glad you like them!
If this is too personal a question, please forgive, but does your estrogen dominance cause heavy periods?
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri ahhh thanks yes i have tried to diff inform myself as much as i can on do and don’t so I’ve been looking at your past videos as well i am uusing retinalhyde do you think i could use it like a day out of the week when i dont use tret since its not a acid , thanks so much for responding i see you were on a cruise so I appreciate your feedback , be safe
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri BTW you are probably one of the prettiest utuber i follow w/or w/out makeup
Use of glycolic acid 12%and Depi white,Triluma made my face become dark.i was having melasma.that is gone but black colour appears.can u suggest some medicine for clearing black colour please
Great tips!! ❤ are you still in Italy? Leaving in July ❤❤❤
Hey Melissa, no we're on Cunard Queen Mary 2 headed back to the USA. We were in Spain yesterday and England in a couple days. Will definitely be going back to Italy soon. 💜
Sheri , eating beans can help you with managing your hormone levels .
Thanks 💜
Hi Sherri, Sherry here. :) I'm medium complexion, anything you recommend that's similar to the Avene compact for my skintone? TIA
Hi Sherry, yes this same one I use in the shade Beige would most likely work well for you 🤗
Have you tried go pure?
Yes a few years ago they were kind enough to send me a bunch of their products to test. I never repurchased anything. I didn't notice anything remarkable when using. But there wasn't anything bad about them that I didn't like, just kinda basic and didn't do much for my skin. 💜
Do you have Amazon store?
Hey just curious, what are you mixed with? cause I can tell you have some black or Asian in you :)
How would you include a retinal product
I personally alternate this type of routine with my retinol routine or do this during the day and my retinol at night. As long as I'm using a few melasma inhibitor type ingredients in my routine each time, I'm good. This is just an example in case someone likes exact details. 💜
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri could you make a video on your routine if you’re going to be outdoors, as well as how you tweak this routine on nights you use retinol. That would be great. Thanks for your response and the info
🙋🏻♀️ Anybody knows what’s good to fade scars? Mine is still red since it’s new. Thought I would treat it. I’m currently using Castor oil. Thanks!
These steps for night time or morning?
Either or but I explain in the video what the Dermatologist recommends. I just kinda do what works best for me. 💜
Thank you 💕
74 & still have melasma and hot flashes.
Yikes well I'm sure that will be me as well. Oh well, it could be worse, right. 💜
When would you use tretenoin?
I don't but I use a Retinaldehyde at night or during the day since it isn't sun sensitive. 💜
@@GracefulBeautyWithSheri
Thank you- I’m sorry, at what point in your nighttime routine would you incorporate the retinaldehyde? Thanks again. I’m really enjoying your content.
