The reference of the book in this episode and the overall tone was just mind blowing.....and ellie's acting was on point 😭🔥
She's adorable!
She’s perfect as Ellie. She’s more “teenagery” but it 100% works, because she’s an actual teenager
Actor who played the kid begging for his life did outstanding job... i mean, it was a small role but damn...
its a nod to the game ruclips.net/video/ft5cj55JCxw/видео.html
when ellie wakes up joel you can see joel sleeping on his left ear, and his right ear doesnt pick up much so he wouldnt be able to hear the glass like he planned
gotta love the details 🔥
Also, he hasn't slept much in a few days, and he climbed up all of those stairs, so he was probably exhausted.
I think this is the first time I've seen a bad guy in a TV show beg for his life and panic in fear of death. Usually it's just mindless grunts that shoot at the main characters and have no sense of self preservation, may as well be robots.
So. Well. Done. Everything is gray zone
Yea hearing him beg for his life was pretty great. Wish joel cut off his hands and feet.
Star Wars Andor did it too, first scene. Also great show.
i always thought about this growing up in movies, hell theres been very little war films i recall that does this with the enemy
(usually we want to show the rival army as evil killers when i always imagined that they were reguar ppl going to war to help their families and also didnt want to partake in killing ppl like a lot of our soldiers feel.)
its probably cuz it would feel too realistic, if i had to kill the 'enemy'... i couldnt help but think that they were also doing what they could to survive... i think it takes a lot of work to learn to push those emotions down for survival, as what Joel had been doing since the outbreak
its a nod to the game ruclips.net/video/ft5cj55JCxw/видео.html
I'm loving this show more and more each episode. The bonding Joel and Ellie are starting to have is so beautiful to watch
By the way. The actor who plays Perry in this episode, is Jeffrey Pierce who originally played Tommy from the games.
That is really cool!
rip
I love that at the end of Ep.3, Joel told Ellie, they could keep their histories to themselves and throughout this Episode, he’s opening up and sharing some of his past. Plus, just the fact she got him to laugh, was very sweet.
As someone who served in the miltiary, leaders come in all shapes and sizes. When it comes to leaders if they act the part and get things done they tend to do just fine. Some leaders say little but do a lot, some look and sound like kids but are smart and effcient, results mean alot.
My mom is very much the same. Small little 5 foot woman, but was actually among the first women on the flight line and she can put the fear of god into you, which she got from her mom who was 4 foot 8. Very tiny yet made my 6 foot 4 dad fear her. I'm more of average height but my friends have said I give off the presence of somebody you don't want to fuck with, especially because I'm very quiet and don't say very much. I was actually surprised when my friend said that when they first met me I intimidated them even though I didn't say anything. My dad is the opposite. A very tall, looming figure who never shuts up and is much more of a people person. The gift of gab my mom calls it. While just looking at him, big tall guy with a heavy set frame, you'd think big and scary but then he starts talking and people warm up to him and listen to him, meanwhile my tiny mom says nothing and people are intimidated.
And as for episode story sake goes, what you said plus she has her own vendetta going on. That makes you focus on an objective. A better soldier, like Perry, can be softer. Won’t be much of a leader.
And the ones that, unfortunately, talk a big game because of their rank but you don't want to be around when things hit the fan.
@@nukiesduke6868 Thinking like that is exactly why if an apocalypse were to happen, I'm downing all of my pills. I've been raped twice already, I ain't living to be nothing but a sex slave to men once society falls. Fuck that.
People forget 1 little thing the game had.
You actually fight more humans than infected.
Yeah, there were sections of the game where you went HOURS without seeing an infected. It makes the encounters with infected mean much more.
I’m so glad they kept the scene with the Playgirl magazine, it’s one of the most memorable moments from the game!
Loved this episode, "Kathleen" the leader of this specific group which i assume are hunters is actually a brand new character created for the show, so is her right hand man "Perry" the badass dude with the white beard & fun fact, the actor playing "Perry" is actually Jeffrey Pierce who voices Tommy in the Video game :) I got so hyped seeing him pop on screen. Lol.
I almost thought Jeffrey Pierce was Rick Grimes lol
@@elreydelmundo1343 lol! I can see the similarities, that would've be a crazy cameo lol!
neil druckman said in tlou ep 4 podcast that they purposely casted her to be the hunter leader so you question "why would she be the leader"
i like the contrast. she would seem like a soft hearted person back when everything was normal but turns ruthless and dominant during the apocalypse. what's scary is she retains her soft image.
It’s funny because while I was watching it I didn’t even question why she would be the leader, like she does seem like someone who used to be sweet but I don’t see leaders based off their voice or looks tbh
@@clover2739 if you've seen yellowjackets she can throw on "psychotic nutcase" really damn well because it contrasts so dramatically from how she's usually cast
@@ISavant I haven’t seen it but I believe it! People say she seems too sweet but to me she actually scared me because even with her voice she seems unhinged and even more threatening than someone who just sounded tough
@@clover2739 actually now that i think about it, her very first role was in Heavenly Creatures, where she played one of two teenage murderers based on an actual murder that happened here in NZ.
I'm pretty sure the reason why Joel didn't want to drive through the underpass was because he thought it was a trap.
It'd also wreck the truck
Also you can’t move a tone of cars
also you might invite trouble with the noise that you might cause or for just being in the same spot for a long time.
the other side was too clean.
Also it was blocked entirely, hence why they couldn't.
Love how uncomfortable he got when Ellie asked, "Why are all the pages stuck together??"😂😂😂😂😂
i love how you are uncomfortable with some stupid porn mag and not bryan begging for his life.
@@vault29a Because porn mags are more relatable than someone begging for their life in our world. You think people that watch this show also live in the TLOU universe lmao
@@MM-vs2et oh my...I guess the person deleted their comment. What did I miss?
The Ellie crying scene I think is because she had to kill someone close to her, like family or something, because she contained her cry and also she has been showing fascination with violence and killing, and this is usually a reflection of oa trauma: maybe she was not strong enough to protect somebody?
Oh if only you knew...
I watched the pilot episode and thought "This is good, not mind blowing or anything" but after each episode I'm thinking "Damn this just keeps on getting better and better" Now i'm defiantly hooked 😃
Just fyi: the bearded guy, the second in command of the hunters, is Tommy's actor from the games!
Damn
First time I heard him I was like wait a min did Tommy join the hunters....then I remembered Tommy is played by a different actor lol
LMAO, the "Oh God, something terrible is gonna happen isn't it?" anytime there's a happy moment 😭
I think she got emotional when Joel apologized because she’s probably never experienced having a protector before and his apology made her that yeah, she shouldn’t actually experience these things but she has and she’ll continue to but at least for now she has Joel.
The opening scene of this episode (Ellie with the gun was VERY Taxi Driver)
Funnily enough, Ellie from the games has canonically seen Taxi Driver. How do I know?
In the Left Behind DLC, if you wear the Triple Phoenix mask in the Halloween store and then press square a couple times she'll perform some actions (I think there are two unique things for every mask you can wear). One of these actions is that she'll say, "Ay, you talking to me??", the very famous line from that movie.
09:55 I'm glad Joel did that. Seen too many players use bullets to kill the last downed enemy. A waste. I NEVER do that. Always melee them to conserve ammo lol
I’m not ready for the end of this series. Seeing the bond between Ellie and Joel growing with each episode.. I’m going to BREAK when this ends.
I think the leader of the hunter has taken over her brother's job. He must have been the leader everyone looked up to. That's why the others listen to her, even if she seems insecure. I think the brother led before and she fed the troupe. Was the mum, so to speak. And she has a strong right hand at her side. By the way, he is Tommy's voice in the game.
I was rooting for Joel to kill the guy that was choking him but the minute he starting pleading his mom for help kinda broke me. But then again, his intention was to kill Joel in the first place.
You do have it coming though when you attack a stranger, try to shoot him and he shoots back and kills one of you. "How dare you shoot back and defend yourself!"
@@meib9412 yeah it was just sad
@@holysecret2 it reminded me for when Joel was calling Tommy's name when Sarah was dying in his arms. That's why it kinda made sad when the dude was calling for his mom.
nahhh. he didn’t think of his mom when he was trying to kill somebody
@@ideozublake8036 He was crying for his mom before he was about to die. Idk where u got that from
What I’ve notice is when Ellie hears him die Joel doesn’t comfort her; where with Sarah when killing the grandma Joel comforts her. Just shows how cruel the world is now
the irony is kathleen is a whole menace in yellowjackets, where out future abbey may come from
I only know Kathleen as the 'good' step sister from Drew Barrymore's "Ever After" Cinderella movie. That's just her voice.
Same, that’s the movie I know her from. And that is her voice when she’s doing an American accent, her regular voice is the same with a New Zealand accent
the sports commentator headsets crack me up every time
"And here we see Joel, 56 has been at it for 20 years, making a fire like pro"
"Thats right Jaby. He is a veteran in survival. But never with a young girl at his side"
great to see tommy from the game (long haired dude with melanie) in the show hope we get to see ash and troy next ep which drops a few days early cuz of the super bowl on sunday....also when they were driving away from the barricaded overpass i had the same thought like wtf drive up the hill and go around as long there's a break in the guard rail like i'm sure there would be at that point
If anyone didn't notice... Ellie didn't put the gun in her pack. When Joel turned around, she put it in her jacket pocket.
This is important she did this.
In So many instances throughout this episode, Pedro sounded exactly like Joel. Really good acting from him
It wasn't a gate, it was a bread truck it said 'bread' on the side. they tried to go around but were fed into the trap which was the same in the game they used cars in the game to block and divert.
in the game, they throw a bus at them in the trap, would've been cool to seee that. But the spike strip makes much more sense
Jaby would end up on foot in a post apocalypse. He'd see a blocked path and try to drive a 70 degree incline to break down a fence and get the truck either flipped or stuck on the fence in the process.
Melanie Lynsky is a great dramatic actress as well. Have you not seen Yellowjackets or Togetherness?
Love Achara's analysis. Always very in-depth, insightful and on point. I thought the same thing about Ellie's crying moment. I think we are thinking the same thing, about a recent trauma with someone she "cares" about, that she didn't really have any time to deal with emotionally. This situation brought it back to the surface again for her.
As soon as I saw her pull out *THE* joke book I actually threw my fists sky high. And I’m so glad that they added the diarrhea joke because I was afraid they would *run* out of ideas.
But seriously, this show is so insanely faithful to the game that it doesn’t feel like a show but almost like and expansion pass/extended cut of the game. Even though I do miss the scene of Joel teaching Ellie how to use a rifle and then saying “No matter what happens, you make every show count” I still love him teaching her how to use the pistol because a) it shows the bond between these two growing and b) it tells the audience that Ellie had some training from FEDRA so her learning quickly feels natural.
And now we are getting to see the more human side of the people who were trying to kill Joel and Ellie in Kansas City (instead of Pittsburgh like in the game). Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin said their inspiration came from how throughout history there have been cases where the revolution that usurps a repressive regime becomes just as bad if not worse than the previous regime. Also loved that we got to see Jeffery Pierce (aka Tommy from the games) finally show up in the show!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Istg this was my favourite episode, it made the gamer part of me SO FCKING HAPPY, but also the watcher part of me happy. I really liked the changes they made, I swear they have not missed ONCE. Pedro Pascal and Bella Rampsey are PERFECTLY casted, and that's comming from someone who wasn't so sure about Bella at the beginning. I'm so so pleased. I just know episode 5 is going to be INSANELY GOOD, thank god we get to see it this Friday! I was going to loose my mind if we'd have to wait til Sunday lol
The last of us series is giving serious goosebumps 🔥🔥
Btw, something in this episode i didnt think about but some others have, is that maybe the cars blocking the tunnel were put there intentionally so ppl would have to go to the city and get ambushed.
Producer: It's gonna be pretty hard to caste someone who looks and sounds like Tommy from the games.
Screenwriter: Actually! It's gonna be super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Living in Wyoming myself, its wild to hear my state talked about in such a large television show.
4:40 I love how hard that made you laugh 🤣🤣🤣
This episode had the most "game" feel to it. I loved it.
I'm really loving this show and I haven't even played the game yet, This show is making me look even more forward to playing it. With that guy Brian what made that scene worse was he asked for his mommy before Joel took care of him. One thing that I'm hoping is that with the change of what happened in Bill and Frank's story that I would love to see happen. People have mentioned Bill in the game journeying with Joel and Ellie for a while so I thought since the change with Bill and Tess as well as other minor changes have made this like a multiverse version of the game. They could make changes for Bill not being with them by having it be Henry and Sam. I keep getting the feeling that something bad happened with Henry and his brother Sam in the game so having them take up Bill's spot in the game and travel with Joel and Ellie for a while like two or three episodes give us more time with them before something happens or even not have them die at all if that was their fate in the game. They probably won't do that, but it would be nice to see. Maybe we'll get an 1 hr 20 min backstory on them like with Bill and Frank for episode 5 and come back to this part of the story episode 6. I really enjoyed the episode and reaction 👍☝✌ out.
The sound in the crack of the floor in the building is actually a sound of a bloater. They must have trapped it in there.
i didn’t notice he stabbed “bryan” with his own knife i thought it was the butt of the gun but stabbing makes a lot more sense
Nah driving threw the gate would have been instant death most likely a trap since it’s only one way in and out , I’d be paranoid about going in that underpass
I mean, there wasn't even a gate, it was a whole truck
Thanks for uploading asap jaby, love you a lot ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm glad they changed the reason for not giving her a gun was more about preserving her innocence than a thing of trust. She's obviously a bit more hardened because of the world she lives in but she's still a kid in the end
The boy Ellie shot begging for his life was on the second game like any of the bad guys would do that if you wound them but not kill them
I love your reactions videos. I really loved this episode. Nice to see just Ellie and Joel alone
15:48 He was trying to avoid going through the city, because he knew that they would likely run into trouble doing so.
12:02 As Troy Baker said himself, The Last of Us is not about infected/zombies.
That's way more apparent in the show since they've made the infected seem like much less of a threat.
I don't know how to wrap my head around this episode, it's mostly a setup for the next event coming in the story... I'm a bit conflicted with the introduction of Kathleen as leader of the people hunting Henry and Sam, if I remember correctly there was a leader of sorts for the hunters it wasn't explicitly said in the game but that person when you listen to the dialogue in the game was indeed the leader of those people and that leader was going to play a huge role in the next event after this section in the story, so I'm a bit confused now as to how the writers are going to change that major event to come. 🤔Excellent vid and so far the series has been an interesting one can't wait for the next episode to drop 😄
Yeah you can see from the Bill and Frank episode that they’re going to expand on things a lot, in the game you hear the hunters talking but they are just nameless faces. I think the show wants to also humanise the hunters in a way as well, show what their situation is and why they are doing what they’re doing. I think it’s a cool change because adds more depth to it
Might want to watch again, it's not a gate, it's a "Sara Lee" bread tractor trailer blocking their way. On close up, it looks like bins are blocking the oncoming lane as well.😊
jaby laughs like a petrol rickshaw we used to have XD
Puns are one of life’s great joys.
She asked where Henry is to the doctor before Kathleen looked at the pictures
Jaby: "Now it's clicking" - me instantly 👀
@CinePals (@AcharaKirk),
24:25 Shoot someone? Marlene and her soldiers found Ellie with a knife. Sure, she could have shot someone earlier, off screen, but I think it's more likely that she used her knife on someone, and I think we're going to see that in a flashback, telling us her story--we got a glimpse in the teaser for this series.
It was horrible seeing that kid begging for his life, but you knew he couldn't be saved...he's like a witness. That and really can't look past the fact that he was very close to killing Joel. It's war, no winners. And those Kansas City Survivors are no better than FEDRA. This this is a bit different from the game, but I feel their existence is limited.
Achara looking a smoke show in this video 😉🔥🔥
That one, leader girl who killed the doc looking for Henry, was in a film "I don't feet at home in this world anymore"
Funny comedy
the militant guy with the gray beard is tommy in the game
“Is that like a MEGA INFECTED?”😂😂
Love it
The 25 hour trip i think was a nod to the length of the game?
the guy calling his mom when he's about to be killed is very realistic, like i've seen some videos (DO NOT RECOMMEND, you'll regret it)
Bryan is the classic case of someone not thinking things through
Did you realize that he slept wit his right ear up at the end. That’s why he couldn’t hear anything
Just as u say there arent any infected in this episode, they find the bubbling in the floor lol
Henry and Sam will be an intense episode, bloater too perhaps? Action-packed 100%
FYI Melani lynskis right hand man guy with the salt n pepper beard is Tommy's og voice actor.
Jaby had the longest laugh in history 😂
She is the sweetest rose from two and a half men
**MEGA INFECTED!**
(editor include Scott Pilgrim's VFx)
Episode 5 is being shown this Friday instead this Sunday. Not want to compete with Super Bowl.
The actress that plays Kathleen was doing dramatic role in yellowjackets and castle rock l understand if your talking about the character of Kathleen looks not look dramatic
I'm digging the new set! Very nice! The show is beyond the point that I stopped playing the game but I'm enjoying the series. I know there are some changes but it's fine with me since I know the end game anyway.
Acharas V day look 🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍
Hey guys hello, ep 5 will air Friday instead of Sunday.
Man honestly this episode was fine how it was it didn’t need to be longer
Next episode bout to be a tear jerker
I hope they do a play by play of the scene you're talking about, but the fact that they've been shying away from a lot of the gore it makes me think they might put a twist on it instead.
YOu said Kathleen has a voice more fit for a comedic role etc. I mean, I only know her from 1 other role: Two and a half men which is pure comedy. Maybe that's why I too struggled seeing her in this role. But like you guys said, anyone can become a leader if you're determined enough!
So cool to have a car scene and hunters
Jeffrey is back
I thought she was crying cause of the situation that shot somebody for the first time and she heard him screaming on the other side and about the first time she shot someone
the actor that played tommy in the game plays that dude with the gray beard
Thank for the reaction asap 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 it was a funny/heavy episode
Don't worry....those tissues will definitely be needed soon!
Yeah it's hard to take the librarian serious as a leader
Damn it Jaby. No Spoilers!!!
@cinepals did yall hear that HBO's next episode teaser says you cab stream the next episode on friday this week?
Game != TV show
I thought the episode was awesome I just wished it was longer
He does have grey in it l think to make him look like 56
the enemies have like the same movement and voice lines like in the game
Kathleen is Rose from Two and a Half men!
The Foking Mormount is Nailing It.
It's cool you talked about Kathleen at the cause you only showed on one scene on the reaction to this episode l understand you edit scenes out cause you can't show all of it
The one thing I dislike about this is the apparent humanization of the hunter group. I would have actually preferred if this was more action-heavy and the group was just a bunch of faceless cannibals. Still amazing tho
Anyone ever call you Yaby?
