There was one change from the game that was kind of weird... in the game, joel finds ellie attacking david (just like in the show) at the end and has to stop her... she just keeps hacking... they don't meet up outside. It just had a different effect... Oh and the rest of the people in the group... in the game you play that part as joel and take them all out as you work your way to where david and ellie are.

I bet you are one of those women that choose to get eaten by bears rather than face the possibility of surviving with a man.
Do us all a favor and go pet the bear to hasten the results. Also, don't live stream it. The more women that go pet wild bears the better. If you are dumb enough to trust a bear over a human, you deserve what comes after.

The things they added that made this so much creepier: Joel only killed one guy before this episode, but they had three bodies. Those bands of people David sent out were hunting people. Then there's the horrifying smile as he feeds that girl her father without her knowing, like he got off on it. And then worst of all: he used to be a teacher....

This is honestly the scariest episode so far to me because David is 100x scarier than any infected could ever be. For real, I was 13 when I realized how unsafe this world can be. There was a creep in my neighborhood that thank God never did anything to me but one day he creeped the hell out of me. It was traumatic. I’m 24 now & that day still freaks me out. So Ellie’s reaction felt so real 😭 and we need more parents like Joel to be a safe person to confide in. Honestly, I think that’s why so many people have fallen in love with his character. He’s that father figure.

(Disclaimer: Just so you know my perspective, I haven't played the game.) As relieved as I was that Ellie had gained the upper hand and killed David, I was also absolutely devastated for her in that moment. Any innocence she still had was destroyed by what David did and attempted to do to her and by the fact that he forced her to hack him to death to avoid it. Ellie just lost a part of herself and will be forever changed and traumatised by these events. That guy was a monster.
Joel, on the other hand, is an absolute weapon. The way he arose from his death bed and took out the men left behind to search for him, despite being wounded and nowhere near fully fit, was quite simply epic. As for that interrogation scene.... well, let's just say he wasn't messing around. I totally expected that Joel would burst in at the last minute to save Ellie, but I'm so glad they actually had Ellie save herself. She went beast mode. She's a true survivor. She is Joel's daughter.
Can't fault this episode. Can't wait for the finale.
P.S. If someone feels the need to tell you how good they are it's probably because they've shown you otherwise and as the old saying goes, "judge people by what they do, not what they say."

    Venison is adult men
    Elk are adult women
    Rabbit is children
The inner circle speaks in code so often David even has to tell James he actually wants James to bring the medicine no alternative meaning.
But it really makes sense why those four men at the campus tried to ambush and attack Joel and Ellie right away. Yes they went for supplies, it was a food run, but not regular food.

And then the ruthlessness of his torture to the guy only emphasizes about what they have been talking about throughout the series about what the things they have done in the past.

Infected running around everywhere, and the Davids of the world are still the biggest monsters. That scene where he is talking to Ellie in the cage was so incredibly disgusting if you're familiar with predatory grooming tactics. He opens by telling her he's protecting her from everyone so she's indebted to him, that she's special, that they're connected, that she's his equal, that she's stronger and smarter than everyone else, that they'll be a team, that she won't be alone. I spent the entire scene wondering how many children he hurt even before the outbreak. Very well done episode.

The "funny" part about this episode is that in a way, David got exactly what he wished for: another violent heart to interact with. Ellie is a little ball of pure violence on a good day, and this definitely was not a good day for her. Unfortunately for David, sometimes the thing you wish for the most is the very thing that destroys you (or in his case, chops you into small pieces)...but so far, his character has been the one most deserving of getting 86'd.
Love that they showed Joel going full-on Taken mode on the two guys he was interrogating, no remorse or even a pause from him. The need to save a child is a hell of a motivator, and they captured that beautifully in this episode.

You're right that David wasn't a preacher in the game. HOWEVER, apparently within the game's files, there are audio files with more voice lines for/from him indicating him being more religious and culty. I always love cut content from games and usually want it in more so than not, so it's really really cool to see them go and bring back an idea they had previously scrapped *years* ago for the game.

This episode hit me so hard. I was raised in a cult religion, and the way David spoke and acted was so eerily like the men I was raised around is so similar. I wish all of the people got the justice Ellie had, but it's not the case because they hide it and protect predators. I cried so hard during this episode, and had to take a day off of work and talk to my therapist.

I think the absence of violence up until this point really made this episode so intense. The creators, Neil and Craig highlighted this is the episode about “depravity”, what. Truly happens to people when they’re at their wits end?!

Regarding Troy Baker: he is pretty much exclusively a voice actor, but that doesn't really tell the whole story. When you guys are done with the season, you should look up some of the behind the scenes stuff on the making of the game. He and the rest of the cast of TLOU aren't just in a sound booth recording lines, they're doing full motion capture and acting out the scenes. It's really impressive, and you can really see just how good Troy and Ashley Johnson are with their performances.

For me, this was the FASTEST hour of my life. Episode 1 and Episode 8 have been my favorite episodes so far. Episode 1 being an hour and 20ish minutes long. It felt like an hour and 20. Not in a bad way, it was never slow to me, but when the episode ended I was ready for it. Episode 8... When the screen cut black as they are walking away, I swear it had been 25-30 minutes. I thought it was gonna cut to a new scene, and then the credits happened and I screamed out loud, at my screen. I thought I had another whole half of an episode left. I had to double check the time stamp to make sure the episode wasn't 30 minutes long. When a show can do that for it, it's amazing. I am so sad there's only 1 episode left. But I can't wait for it. It needs to be 2 hours long I swear!

One of the best episodes of TV I’ve ever seen. As a fan of the game I knew what was coming and this was still insanely intense and anxiety inducing. Bella has been AMAZING majority of this season and the last 3 episodes she’s almost carrying. Scott Shepherd is one of the better villains in TV and was only around for 50 minutes, insanely creepy and intimidating. Pedro FINALLY got to be the darker version of Joel again with the torture scene (glad they kept this in the adaptation) and has captured a whole different version of Joel i like almost as much as game Joel. I can’t believe Sunday is the end of this amazing season. A+’s all around

    Some things I noticed:
When David asked Ellie “Is that your dad’s gun?” she didn’t say “no he’s not”, like she previously would have. David commands his people to bring Ellie back alive, which really suggests his intentions. James and his crew go to kill Ellie anyway, I think as a mercy kill to spare her from the horrors that David had planned. 😢

First off, I"M SO HAPPY THEY BROUGHT TROY (game Joel) IN THE SHOW AS JAMES!!!! Secondly, the way David basically confirmed they were a cult without confirming they were a cult was done really well. And thirdly, I'm so glad they confirmed all the suspicions about what David was about to do to Ellie at the end of the fight. BUT...and hear me out... as fantastically well done this episode is, I do wish they hadn't changed Ellie and Joel's interaction at the end. Even though it was subtle, I prefered the game's version of Joel stopping Ellie while she was in the middle of hacking up David because he saw what she was capable of. And then she turned, sobbing to him about what David what about to do to her, and Joel understood WHY she did it. That was really powerful to me because it then strengthened that father/daughter relationship between them. Overall though, this was a great episode.

I agree with Oak that we can understand Joel taking extreme measures to find his girl, but remember: he had already gotten the information out of those 2 guys and he decided to kill them anyway. That was Joel in pure beast & vengeance mode, doing way more than taking extreme measures to find Ellie.

You know what's a bit scary? I was on the same page with Joel and his interrogation. It was brutal, but needed to be done. Same for for putting them down afterwards, in the words of Rick Grimes on TWD S5E1, "They don't get to live." Not after what they've done and were still gonna do. As for David, he's pure evil, there's a special spot in Hell for he's done.

Watching this by myself being able to really immerse myself in the episode I was absolutely terrified and devasted seeing what Ellie had to go through. I couldn't really cheer her on at the end because I was so disgusted by what this human garbage put her through leaving her no choice other than going feral and saving herself. It left me real messed up. The part that's not monsters and made up shit always messes me up. Bella Ramsey acted the hell out of this one!
I mean what the fuck... Trying to keep Joel alive, meeting the mayor of creepy town, getting a bit of hope with the penicillin, being hunted by Creeper McCreep and the cult gang, getting thrown off a horse, being caputed and caged, almost getting cut up to be the next meal and not knowing if Joel will survive if you don't get back. And to top it off being chosen as the next pet by pedo teacher-preacher who not only tries to kill you but then tries to rape you too while the place around you is in flames driving home the point that you are in actual hell right now.
Being forced to kill this piece of shit hacking him up to make sure he can't hurt you more is the cherry on top of the trauma for life cake. Like... What even is left of you at this point? I mean same thing but different for Joel. The guy is probably being held together by nothing but the love for that girl wanting to keep her safe. "And God help any motherfuckers who stand in our way".
