I loved your review. I was considering the PD380. I bought a Ruger Security 380 instead. I am a senior with large and arthritic hands. I will start carrying now that I have a gun I am able to manipulate and shoot well. I appreciate your candor.
As an option take a look at Magtech 38 SPL SHORT. That ammo runs in regular 38 SPL with energy of a 32 ACP. Low recoil and people can keep their holster, speed loader...
I don't understand the problem with the safety. It is basically the same system used on the Walther P22, (and PK380) where a drum rolls up and covers the firing pin enough that the hammer cannot touch it. I've been shooting my P22's for over 20 years now and never had a problem with decocking the hammer. The Walther PPK and PPK/S has a rolling firing pin block safety, but is a little different because it actually does automatically drop the hammer when engaged. So Walther has a history of using this system. What makes it unsafe or unfamiliar?
Totally agree I think it’s people talking who do not have experience with the P22 or are either afraid, never owned a hammer fired pistol. Ignorance is bliss
@mcdoctorglock, I'm a 1911 guy, so I like manual safeties. But there are many folks who won't train using a safety. And a slide-mounted safety is much more awkward to use than a frame-mounted safety like those on a 1911-style pistol. Thanks for watching and adding your thoughts.
@RidersRange this gun is definitely for more experienced users. I picked one up because im specifically looking for a thin DA/SA to CC. To my knowledge only springfield(XDE) and sig(p239)have attempted to make that configuration. Both are discontinued. If you go down to .380 you have the thunder 380/tpr380 or ppk. I have a tpr380 but the gas blowback design sucks. It hurts to shoot as much as my 44mag. This pistol isnt exactly what i want but its the closest ive found. Wont carry a striker for my (completely unfounded) fear of a round going off on its own. Im comfortable with hammer down, round in the chamber.
I may pick one of these up or trade something for it. Price is right. I like DA/SA operation and the slide mount safety isn’t bad however I wish it was decock only like the G model Beretta 92. I just wish they tried harder to make it a little smaller….
Very informative video. You pointed all of the things I would like and those I wouldn't, especially the slide mounted safety and lack of a slide release. Those are deal breakers. Thanks for posting this!
I''m starting with a white rabbit, so it was appropriate to go ask Alice. Though it seems very few folks seem to get the reference. Does that make me (us?) old? Thanks for watching.
My opinion - the firing pin/hammer block is fine. Switch the block on, and thumb on the hammer, pull the trigger and ease the hammer down. Deactivate the block. Now you are no different than carrying the Beretta 92's G models, or H&K P30 with just a decocker. With the hammer down, the long heavy first trigger pull is your safety, as it is in a revolver. With this gun, you could, if you wish, activate the blocker again for that extra measure of safety when carrying with the hammer down. With other guns, one motion of a lever decocks. With this gun it is a three step process. Activate the block, ease the hammer down, deactivate the block (if you wish). To me no big deal.
An informative and well delivered review👍 Any chance you are Walter Cronkite’s grandson? You have a similar cadence in your chords(voice)😊…if you know “Alice”-you would undoubtedly know Walter too🗣️
Good review, but you left out one more 380 in about the same class, the Ruger security 380. I used to own the CCP380 and thought it was a nice gun but switched to the Ruger. I do agree with you though on the thanks but no thanks on the PD380.
I didn't include the Ruger because I don't have one. (It's on order at my local FFL.) I did test the Ruger a while back (borrowed gun) and it has a lot to offer. Thanks for watching.
I didn't mention recoil impulse because I didn't find it to be anything out of the ordinary for that caliber and size. But then again, it's a subjective issue. Thanks for watching.
As is the return to the shrimpy paddle mag release which they ditched on the 1st generation P99 20 years ago. Walther already knew that the American market hates the paddle so I have no idea what they think they are doing.
Paddle release is king. Makes more sense ergonomically. Functional better than one side button release. Paddle is left AND right release for righty and lefty, strong hand and weak hand. If your a dopey pepper than you need paddles when yer strong hand gets cut opening a can of tuna. Common sense paddle release 👍👍
I held one of these the other day but I didn’t like it enough to take it home. Not sure if I like the mag release and letting the hammer down feels a little funny. Thanks for the video.
It seems some Walther engineers got drunk and designed a crappy pistol. That manual safety that doesn't decock is a tragedy looking for a place to happen.
I'm ordering a GLOCK G25 Gen3 .380 tonight for these reasons: No slide safety lever. 4.02" barrel. **15 & 17 rd magazine**. Gen5 like trigger. I like the Gen3 finger grooves with traction front strap. Wider double stack grip. Larger, squared trigger guard for flush light mounting, and room for gloved finger. G19 size. Sorry Walther.

There Walther goes again, answering questions no one asked. Why can't they actually deliver the guns their diehard fans have been begging for for years? (I.e. a P365 competitor, either a PPS M3 or a PPS/PDP hybrid).
@@RidersRange I can understand ,,,most 380’s are too small for me, uncomfortable to shoot. I do enjoy watching your videos, always very informative and no BS! Thanks, keep them coming !
I got one of these Monday and took it to the range today, I love how it shoots. I also have 9 mm guns, but wanted to get one of these. I had debated getting a Ruger,, but my gun smith talked me out of it. He told me they would be uncomfortable to shoot. So I will definitely carry this one sometimes as I do switch up my carry guns. Sometimes I use revolvers. I love the 357 7 rounds and 44 Magnum.

Maybe you mentioned it in the video, but how was the recoil impulse? Walthers seem to be a bit snappy in general.

Probable because the bean counters say it is too expensive.
