Not that their last album was bad, but it felt like a bunch of random songs that didn’t have much to do with each other. This album feels much more conceptual. I love it.
I think the story is that they reunited with James and went into the studio to just record some random tracks and see what happened with the intention of putting the songs out as 2 or 3 separate EPs as they toured. Then, the announced EPs never came out, and I gather they were pushed into waiting and releasing the tracks as a "reunion album" instead. Hence the randomness and the short length of the album.
That's because it was a bunch of songs Rick Rubin just liked.
Billy Corgan is one the most influential artists in my life.

WOW just listened for first time. I'll listen 15-20 more and make my decision but for first impressions? Not for me. Doesn't sound anything like old skins or just the Skins. If not for Billies voice I would never have guessed this is the Pumpkins.

This is definitely my fav track off the album. It has the emotion that has been missing from recent efforts. It just shows you what the Corgan/Iha combo brings (and what was missing when Iha wasnt in the band).
This has to be the best one among the new ones so far ♡ Really loving the vibe. But four more to check out 💪

@@austinvosler7247 because there are also vinyls selling pretty well nowadays and overall, Billy likens himself to an artist with musical integrity. Why leave off gems in the past albums and save for b-sides and not now? I am personally streaming everything but I "hide" the crap songs to not clog up my stream. It is just a reflection of how Billy is by himself, with no one to reel him in and say, "bro, tighten it up a bit, these songs are a bit too much." I didnt completely agree with the new Pitchfork review, but it does have legitimate points of not having to be a "double album" when its actually shorter than Adore and Machina and really, just listen to it... instead of a strong, kick in the ass, its a bit watered down and long in the tooth with the same ideas over and over again, same background vocals and 3 min song after 3 min song... It was probably a contractual thing, but hey, whatever, the good ones are good and you can HIDE the rest. The next couple albums better rock the fuck out or ciao ciao SP.

I don't know why bands change their style so much over the years. This is pop music, I don't like the album. Nothing similar with the Smashing Pumpkins of the 90's, disappointed. There is no music on this album that sounds good on my years, it's unfortunate.

@@dylanjwebmusic First off, The lyrics & vocal performance is fantastic. The song has a timeless quality to it. Like most SP songs do. Feels like something that could have been on Adore or even Mellon collie. The song arrangement has classic pumpkins all over it. If the chorus was drenched in fuzz guitars, most people would say the pumpkins are back & the band could have easily done that but once again, that’s not what this band is about. Each album is about creativity and progressing forward, not repeating patterns of familiarity.
