I love the Sloans, but they're really only world-famous here in Canada. I don't think that they meet any criterion for admission. It's the world's loss.
I met them after a gig in Buffalo. They had their own bus they drove themselves. They were indeed, just awesome guys who spent so much time answering questions especially Chris. I couldn’t of been happier and they’re so good live! They’re about 10 years since I last saw them so I don’t know if they’re doing the epic high kicks, lol. But the crowd was always cool. It’s just a great vibe, the fans are just there to have fun!
For any oblivious male who has been adrift in college but found himself in the orbit of an amazingly smart and attractive girl to whom you have struck her fancy, this is the absolute perfect song. But it is a perfect song anyway.
Sloan is one of my favorite bands which occasionally i ask myself "why dont i listen to them more ? " The trouble of Music is a buffet of sounds and i want to sample each one, and there are only so many hours in a day.
Man you couldn't be more wrong. Had you added "IMO" at the end of that statement then maybe I could have let it go but you didn't so I couldn't. If you want one from just this Era then I'll give you the tragically hip just for starters.
Ya, when I looked up the word "underwhelmed" back in my reality, I couldn't find it either. I guess those skills I learned back in my school are irrelevant now, as it somehow is a word now. I couldn't find the word learnt either back in that same reality. That was so many different realities ago. I miss those days, or that reality. This song brings me back to that reality that I miss, and cherish.
Heard this on XRT late night in Chicago. Didn’t catch the name of the band but the hook was in my head for years. Went to Purdue which had much music on its cable and have been hooked ever since. Thanks for the awesome music!
I saw them last week at a private function. They are just as amazing as I always imagined them.. this band is my youth. I love everything Sloan under whelmed and underrated This is what rock ‘n’ roll is about
LYRICS She was underwhelmed, if that's a word I know it's not, cause I looked it up That's one of those skills that I learned in my school I was overwhelmed, and I'm sure of that one Cause I learned it back in grade school When I was young She said, "You is funny", I said, "You are funny" She said, "Thank you" and I said, "Never mind" She rolled her eyes, her beautiful eyes The point is not the grammar, it's the feeling That is certainly in my heart But not in hers But not in hers, but not in hers But not in hers, but not in hers We were talking about people that eat meat I felt like an ass cause I was one She said it's okay, but I felt like I just ate my young She is obviously a person with a cause I told her that I don't smoke or drink She told me to loosen up on her way to the L.C She skips her classes and gets good grades I go to my courses rain or shine She's passing her classes while I attend mine While I attend mine, while I attend mine While I attend mine, while I attend She wrote out a story about her life I think it included something about me I'm not sure of that, but I'm sure of one thing Her spelling's atrocious She told me to read between the lines And tell her exactly what I got out of it I told her affection had two Fs Especially when you're dealing with me I usually notice all the little things Once I was proud of it, she says it's annoying She cursed me up and down and rolled her Rs, her beautiful Rs She says I'm caught up in triviality All I really wanna know is what she thinks of me I think my love for her makes me miss the point I miss the point, I miss the point I miss the point, I miss the point I miss the point, I miss the point I miss the point, hey mister
Fuck, this song got me hooked on you guys!! Hearing this back in '92, and finding out you guys were from Canada, meant so much. I was in a High School band, and this was one of our covers (we killed the guitar parts, and our drummer did a pretty good imitation...but it sounded like we were murdering the vocals, haha). It's 2018, and you just announced your upcoming tour. I cannot wait!!!
I love how lyrically it shows how being a meticulously self-important, grammar-nazi dick can affect potential relationships, while on the other hand, the annoying fly-by-the-seem, reckless/apathetic ones can be insufferable, too. My favorite take away being how either one would alienate you; they alienate each other and lack self awareness. I'm surprised this song didn't show up on Letterkenny. Sonically, it's one of the prettiest high energy tracks I've heard from the Nova Scotia scene and the subtext can spell out so many characters.

"She is obviously a person with a cause I told her that I don't smoke or drink She told me to loosen up on the way to the L.C." Blew my mind as a teenager hearing such local slang (L.C. = Liquor Commission, short for N.S.L.C.) in a song that was getting played in heavy rotation on Much Music.
It is definitely LC for liquor control. It was probably NSLC for Nova Scotia, as the band is from Nova Scotia. Although, I as an Ontarian, always thought it was short for LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario).

One of the most underrated songs of all time by one of the most overlooked bands of all time.
Just dropped a new album a few months ago!
Six to be a Canadian band. 🤷🏻♂️
See Tragically Hip or Matt Good
*sux
You might say their public reception was "underwhelming."
@@vibelife4093can't stand Tragically Hip's music 😤
This band deserves to be in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
That place is boring though. Do you give it any credit? I don't.

I attended a Sloan show in Hamilton back in the 90s. The mosh pit was most intense mosh pits I've ever been.🎉
My mom once served them at the bar she used to work at. She said they’re all very nice, humble and down to earth guys
Yes!
I believe it.

well yes but that's a good problem!!😀😁
They are sooooo worth it!! 😬
It’s worth checking out their newer stuff too. Consistently great band.
Perhaps Stay Away from THOSE that play with "Coca Cola Fizz"!
Seriously!
😂
Best Canadian band ever period.

It is "Metric" for me
Obviously Rush. Still, Sloan kicks major ass though.
Sloan is the Canadian version of Oasis. Btw this is my favorite Sloan.
Worst comment you RUclips double period with a cramp.
These lyrics always get me
I would not have survived freshman year of HS without this song! Great memories!

I love this song and album. A perfect replication of me at age 16.

This came out when I was 18, brings me back!
Amazing band still going strong with same lineup
A brilliant classic from the early '90s. Thank you for sharing, reminding me of my glory days.
LYRICS
She was underwhelmed, if that's a word
I know it's not, cause I looked it up
That's one of those skills that I learned in my school
I was overwhelmed, and I'm sure of that one
Cause I learned it back in grade school
When I was young
She said, "You is funny", I said, "You are funny"
She said, "Thank you" and I said, "Never mind"
She rolled her eyes, her beautiful eyes
The point is not the grammar, it's the feeling
That is certainly in my heart
But not in hers
But not in hers, but not in hers
But not in hers, but not in hers
We were talking about people that eat meat
I felt like an ass cause I was one
She said it's okay, but I felt like I just ate my young
She is obviously a person with a cause
I told her that I don't smoke or drink
She told me to loosen up on her way to the L.C
She skips her classes and gets good grades
I go to my courses rain or shine
She's passing her classes while I attend mine
While I attend mine, while I attend mine
While I attend mine, while I attend
She wrote out a story about her life
I think it included something about me
I'm not sure of that, but I'm sure of one thing
Her spelling's atrocious
She told me to read between the lines
And tell her exactly what I got out of it
I told her affection had two Fs
Especially when you're dealing with me
I usually notice all the little things
Once I was proud of it, she says it's annoying
She cursed me up and down and rolled her Rs, her beautiful Rs
She says I'm caught up in triviality
All I really wanna know is what she thinks of me
I think my love for her makes me miss the point
I miss the point, I miss the point
I miss the point, I miss the point
I miss the point, I miss the point
I miss the point, hey mister

I thought he was talking bout the LCBO, NSLC makes so much more sense for them though. lol
As this was related to a college relationship, I always interpreted “LC” as “lecture center.” Am I wrong?
@@Jabberwok28 someone please answer the LC ? Learning Center fits~ Thanks! Beasts, dtf
It is definitely LC for liquor control. It was probably NSLC for Nova Scotia, as the band is from Nova Scotia. Although, I as an Ontarian, always thought it was short for LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario).

If Sloan has another band I can compare their career to it's Teenage Fanclub. Canada and Scotland's mirror.

You can even see Andrew Scott wearing a Teenage Fanclub shirt at 1:04 quite clearly, funny. :P
South Street, under the FDR, by the Manhattan Bridge.
