ToneX Stomp! Could the HX Stomp run Tonex? No, but kind of...

  • I love gear but as a receiving gear addict, buy more stuff is a slippery slope. I'd much rather use something I already had to achieve something not seen before. The Tonex pedal and Tonex one were certainly market disrupting but they still do cost money and space on a pedalboard but there's a free app so...
Here's an in depth overview of how to host Tonex on an iPad and use the Line 6 HX Stomp as an audio interface. This allows you to utilise the Tonex app for amp and pedal modelling and free up the DSP of the HX Stomp to run more effects without losing the portability of the HX Stomp.
Personally, I think the Tonex amp captures sound amazing but even if you don't think they're any better than the HX amps, you have to admit that running stereo amps kinda kills the HX stomp for anything else. Not anymore.

Thanks for the support on this video. Hoping it helps you in a real useful way. Let me know how you’ll implement this with your rig

Great video! I have not seen anything like this before. I will definitely try this! My small suggestion for this and/or future videos (if you are going to keep filming in the same space) would be to please change the color of the text you add to the video. It is very unreadable against your background. Thanks again!

Amazing! It’s actually like having 3 tonex devices. And I also think you will not add latency because you are staying digital and do not need to convert to analog like when using the tonex in the effects loop. Great!!!

Just get a Tonex One and run it in the FX loop and treat the FX loop block like an A+C block. That's what I've been doing. It's cheaper and more convenient that way as well! Saves a TON of DSP (and the sounds are unlimited). Super great travel rig, as well.

@@rocknrollboise I appreciate your perspective. I definitely think it’s more convenient but I don’t see how a TONEX One is cheaper than a free app?

@@AlexJonesAuraural All the amps I use are free on the Tonex One. There are 25000+ to choose from and you can store 20 at a time on the pedal (and switch between 3 on the pedal itself--without a computer). It cost me $179 with free shipping and I mount it on my pedalboard or throw it in my guitar case along with the Stomp, no iPad/Computer required.

@@rocknrollboiseIf you can watch this video, you already have the hardware you need to run the TONEX app so I don’t think comparing the price of the iPad is fair in this example. As I said in the video, I like to run 2 amps for my stereo rig so at a minimum I’d need 2 TONEX Ones.

@@AlexJonesAuraural Two Tonex One's is still cheaper than an iPad... just sayin

    Hey Alex
Thank you so much for this video!! I was thinking about selling my HX Stomp and switching to two ToneX One‘s but didn’t want to miss the flexibility of the Stomp
And know I can get the best of both worlds and just use the ToneX Amps last in my chain as I use them anyways
Do you know if there is a good alternative free app to replace AUM ?
And do you have a input delay? Or does it track in realtime, so there’s no drawback when playing live ?!

      Hi @@jonathanhermann,
Thanks so much for watching my video. I haven’t found a free alternative to AUM and I can’t feel any latency but I think I might run a test to measure how much there is.
