I always love how the instruments combine to let me hear and feel that journey into numb anxiety, anger and finally a shutdown of emotions for a brief exhausted silence. I can feel all the nuance of this section of depression through the instruments and at the same time the lyrics articulate it beautifully. After all that time spent struggling to explain that whirlpool of emotions, hoping some day someone listens to the struggle, Mastodon bring in the entire band on the same message and that's cathartic to me.
The LORD and His phenomena the only thing worth living for. Praise God for His mercies that renew every morning.... For those who are redeemable. The lies from the enemy are beautiful in our midst but the mind guirded up in Him will arrive into life everlasting. Bless you. Your work has blessed me again and again and again and again......... And the irony of oblivion..... Is that it's exactly where He wants us... All of Him and none of me.....
One day when I was playing RPG with my friends, I put this song repeating over 1 hour until someone understand what was happening...hahaha. Now when happens something bad with one of us, we say FALL FROM GRAAAACE hahahah Hugs from Brazil!
I need to find that Rolling Stone article about Crack the Skye. I see so much that was described there here, how the drummer was so innocent because he was 12 and didn't understand what happened to his sister. God, the pain is so tangible. The end of the song is perfect, because the last sane man realizes all his friends are dead, he's the last one left. That is true oblivion, being the only one left to witness your pain.
I don't think you could ever call Mastadon stoner rock man....it's heavy as fuck and some of their songs have got that bluesy riffage going on. Metal aint it? You guys should check out Orange Goblin if you like this song...check out their latest album 'Eulogy for the Damned'..they started as a straight up stoner rock band, but now its fully fledged metal with insane heavy rifs...so maybe your right..I donnow...
+Jaden Grattan I wouldn't classify Mastodon as stoner rock (Kyuss for the win!), but this song definitely leans toward that side of metal. It just lacks the sludgy, doomy sounds of pure stoner rock.
Im An Ol School Prog Rocker.. MASTODON fits in With the Prog Rockers ... all the different time progressions and different tunings this band is second to none and I've been following them since Leviathan and I saw them on That Tour ...... LOVE MY MASTODON !!!

@@Penland1234 never give up the battle of the mind we are our own wors enemy and when we realize that our subconscious is working against us only then can we fight back with confidence and a new word respective I've attempted suicide twice the second time was when I gained an understanding of death and the selfishness of taking your own life and I will never try again and I can talk to anyone considering it I will and I hope I can convince them to reconsider
You’re a damned good person
Keep it up king
It's sad I am bipolar everyday it's so hard, even when it's ok. It's like I am not identify this body like something real. This band it's so perfect, give me head when I am so sad. The world without musicians it would be less world.
I always love how the instruments combine to let me hear and feel that journey into numb anxiety, anger and finally a shutdown of emotions for a brief exhausted silence. I can feel all the nuance of this section of depression through the instruments and at the same time the lyrics articulate it beautifully.
After all that time spent struggling to explain that whirlpool of emotions, hoping some day someone listens to the struggle, Mastodon bring in the entire band on the same message and that's cathartic to me.
one of the best music videos ever made by one of the best metal best ever by one of the best music video directors ever
First song I ever listen of Mastodon! The riffs and vocals from 0:30 to 0:50 simply blew my mind!!
Love the chorus on this one
One of the greatest songs of all time. 3 lead singers! complex key changes. Cmon.
My heart gets ripped out every time.
One of the best metal songs to ever exist
This song is beautiful
The LORD and His phenomena the only thing worth living for. Praise God for His mercies that renew every morning.... For those who are redeemable. The lies from the enemy are beautiful in our midst but the mind guirded up in Him will arrive into life everlasting. Bless you. Your work has blessed me again and again and again and again......... And the irony of oblivion..... Is that it's exactly where He wants us... All of Him and none of me.....
I'm so glad I've been with Mastodon since the first EP. Absolute legends, masterful musicians!
God damn masterpiece of a song. Still gives me chills.
Crack The Skye is a masterpiece. I love this song.
I used to play this all the time when driving my kids to school and my son loved this one.
This album changed me......hit me when it needed to in life, masterpiece....
the last time they play the chorus is fucking amazing
Crack the skye is possibly one of the greatest things ever recorded
One day when I was playing RPG with my friends, I put this song repeating over 1 hour until someone understand what was happening...hahaha.
Now when happens something bad with one of us, we say FALL FROM GRAAAACE hahahah
Hugs from Brazil!
Same i was listening this song while playing wow
+Lucas Loretti Muito Bom!!!!!
2:28 DAVID GREY “Sail away with me honey” I hear it. Influence. Nice work.
These guys are insane why it took me so long to find them I've no idea but i owe it to my mate doberman!!! Absolute quality
this was the soundtrack of my spiritual voyage into the void that is reality.
Hello, Scott Kelly.
RIP to the sister this song was written about
Is it? I know Crack The Skye is about erm...Skye
@@SrDeMaFp skye is drummer’s sister name

I love the way he says oblivion
Uhbliviawwwn
Oblivieaun
I love YOU
The "fallen from grace" never fails to give me the chills.
it's so damn spacey and dreamy.
nickelback chorus
Loveeee this!!! Remember getting into Mastodon in high school....still one of my favorite bands:)
This is refreshing to read.
one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. I actually get high from playing it.
True stoner rock at its finest.
"Falling from grace cause I've been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost in oblivion"
Still gives me chills.
Im An Ol School Prog Rocker.. MASTODON fits in With the Prog Rockers ... all the different time progressions and different tunings this band is second to none and I've been following them since Leviathan and I saw them on That Tour ...... LOVE MY MASTODON !!!
I wish that nice riff at 3:55 was longer.
If I ever find out that the end of the world is imminent, the first thing I will do is play this song.
Dude I feel ya haha
Time to play it.
I'm playing this every day rn
2020 lol
Time to play it, bro. I'm with you
I met Bill Kelliher in the crowd at a festival in the UK watching Alice in chains. He was just chilling and i recognized him and he asked if he could drink some of my cider so i said "Yeah sure" and he drank well over half of my pint of cider. That shit's expensive at festivals man.
That's the price you pay for hanging with Bill man.
Every time I listen the Brent Hinds' solo @ 2:58, I can't help but ask, "Why isn't Space Metal a a thing?", because thats one of the best examples of it i've ever heard.
something so great in a breath of fresh air
i remember first hearing this song when it dropped on adultswim. something about it just clicked with me and i fell in love with it. i don’t listen to it as much anymore, but i always find a couple times per year to go crazy to it. 😂
You should listen to the whole album, its nuts how good it is
I like Mastodon's more melodic stuff. Also, I met Brann once at a local club here when his wife's band (Tiger! Tiger!) was playing. Cool fucking guy.
He came into the restaurant I was working at while he was doing his residency on the Seth Meyers Show. Easily the most down to earth and accessible rock star I’ve met.
Me and my youngest got a pic with him while Primus was playing. Super cool dude!!
Yooo thas awesome
Brand new mastodon fan can you please give me a list of their melodic slower stuff . I really love the sparrow and pendulum
some years ago I thought the music was over.. then, was published crack the skye.. finally light!!
Still listening to this in 2024!:)❤
❤❤😢😢😢❤❤❤
I can't stop listening...
Such a unique blend of prog, stoner, and alt metal
One of the best songs ever. The chorus lingers in your head and makes you smile
How can I tell you I failed? Tell you I failed..
That part always gets me.
They shortened the intro :(
I remember first hearing this on an Adult Swim promo for when Dethklok and Mastodon were both going on tour.
Yup! That's the first time I heard a Mastodon song
+BrotherNumber3 oh my god the went on tour with Dethklok?! That makes me very happy :3
Eryn Lindemann Yeah around late 2009
That show was soooo good! Got 'em here in utah, was freaking amazing. When Colony of Birchmen came on I literally jumped with joy.
Seen them both in concert when they where in Chicago it was awesome
