Here's a story for ya I've known about mastodon for years. obviously, they're huge. but I never looked into them much because I'm more into punk. So, one day, my band had a gig in Atlanta. We're from ohio, and like the idiots we are, we drove overnight to get there. We played at this place called Star Bar in little 5 points (excellent club btw) Our guitarist, however, is a huge metalhead. and a MAJOR mastodon fan. We pull up to the clubs parking spot, and our guitarist starts saying "Holy shit, is that fucking Brent? Dude... That's fucking Brent Hinds (sp?) We had to let him go talk to him while we loaded in gear, cause c'mon. He'd do the same for any one of us. Anyway, not only is Brent super fucking cool to him and talks to him for awhile, let's him take pictures. But he stuck around and smoked with my guitarist and bassist. Fast foreward a bit, and I go up to the bar and order a beer. he sits next to me, introduces himself to me, and we shoot the shit for a good ten minutes. Long story short, Brent is the coolest well known musician I've ever met, and I've met a few. Now I consider myself a blossoming mastodon fan. So anyone who likes these guys, just know that Brent is super chill. I dunno, it makes me feel good knowing guys I look up to and respect aren't dicks. Figured I'd share for everyone who are long time fans.
I can corroborate that. I'm currently in Atl. I used to rehearse next door to Mastodon at this place called Thunderbox. They were always polite but brief.
Luís de Sousa I was looking, and was about to be heartbroken after it took so long to find another commenter who understood the video. Irony intensifies. Fucking rad.
Are you saying what I'm thinking? During the video I thought they were mocking pop culture, but in the comment section I don't seem to find anyone talking about that.
I get that it's mocking pop culture but you are acting like the women aren't sexy or anything Or that it wasn't unexpected The way i took it was sticking to bible beaters and throwing crude women into "sacred art" and basically being like "fuck you and your shackled and judgemental life style" It's a good video but it's not like i'm gonna go call kim kardashian ugly, or go shit on nikki manaj for twerking. Cause as much as i might not like their work, i think they are attractive. If you think differently then fine but you can't basically point this out and then act like i am a dumbass and didn't get the message or should take it as the women are bad people, or even that the stars and culture they are making fun of is bad (some of the stars are bad people but thats another story) but i can't stand how the metal community act like a bunch of stuck up smart asses and act like they are hot shit... Wait a minute... That sounds like some rappers i bet you ALSO hate.
Sorry i misclicked i didn't mean to reply to you directly. I meant to reply to a man in the reply chain. Sorry about that i'm not trying to directly attack you or anything i just feel passionate about that when i start talking about the metal community. I've listened to metal all my life but i still think it's wrong that people try to attack other people who like other types of music or mainstream culture. It's their choice and if you don't like it then don't listen to it. I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't like it if someone who likes pop, or classical or something attacked you for liking metal.
AlphaSite115 I think if you look at the lyrics in conjunction to the video it has more to do with what the world has done to ladies, being seen only as sex objects and the like... maybe I'm just being hopeful, but regardless... "if I want it I can will it" It's a double edged sword this video, the art of the whole thing - not so much mocking a culture, more-so culture in general since the dawn of time... hints the adam and eve thing going on in the beginning. The other side of "the sword" would be getting extra clicks on the youtubes for having big booties bouncing in slow-mo. Which also reflects how dire and hopeless equality feels when you ponder the comment section... Don't mind me, I'm just a lowly fem-nazi satanist who's tired of being the alter ;P
I can see what the world has done to you. I can feel the weight, Feel the weight. I can see what this life has handed you. I can feel the weight, Feel the weight. This time, this time Things'll work out just fine. We won't let you slip away. This time, this time Things'll work out just fine. We won't let you leave this way. If you want it, you can will it. You can have it! I can put it right there in your hands! I can hear what the spirits are telling you. I can clear the weight, Clear the weight. I can see all the wolves as they circle you. I can crush the weight, Crush the weight. This time, this time Things'll work out just fine. We won't let you slip away. This time, this time Things'll work out just fine. We won't let you leave this way. If you want it, you can will it. You can have it! I can put it right there in your hands! This time, this time Things'll work out just fine. We won't let slip away. This time, this time Things'll work out just fine. We won't let you leave this way. If you want you want it, you can will it. You can have it! I'll put it right there in your hands!
This song was my first introduction to Mastodon, I discovered them in the last year, and they are really great! So glad I found them, this is one of my favorite songs now.
No one: Mastodon: What if you took the videos for Until It Sleeps by Metallica and Anaconda by Nikki Minaj and just sort of slammed that shit together?
This is the most positive uplifting video EVER! If you can't get happy with booty shaking and lyrics that say "This time, this time, things will work out just fine!" , get some therapy
Dude you've got some back catalogue to get through. Like someone else has said "crack the Skye is fucking beautiful" In fact I'll happily buy that album for someone. I wish they made that easier. I think people forget that giving music as a present like CDs and tapes and probably records. Gifting iTunes £10 vouchers sucks as a thing to gift someone, anyway I'm high as fuck so I'll shut up.
Hilarious video! Mastodon and their humor entertains the hell out of me and my wife. Documentaries about making their albums are the same. Heavy, not heavy-prog, not proggy doesn’t matter. These guys are always high on my playlist and when a tour is announced, “take my money!” My wife, friend and I make their shows events. It’s what good entertainment is all about! Thanks to the ‘Don boys!
+goatface2 y'all better ask someone about gojira and mastodon.. sorry you missed it.. gojira tore the roof off and I was worn out by the time mastodon hit the stage so I just stood there and watched in awe.. I think everyone did the same thing.. also their oblivion tour was amazing.. they played oblivion from front to back and then a whole second set of old mastodon favorites.. it was one of the best days of my life...
+Matthiu Ryin No, I caught the tour, but I had no clue who Gojira was. Not saying they were bad but not what I wanted to hear at a Mastodon concert. Whish I could have caught when they did shows with Clutch or Kylesa. Still, to see Mastodon live is life changing.
goatface2 I think Mastodon is just so diverse that they can tour with bands that play completely different sounding music. I've seen them play with Opeth before and they're coming back here soon with The Dillinger Escape Plan.
Sure, America needs to continue to lower its culture....Instead of expanding its culture through science and mathematics, America should focus on Twerking and glam metal🤪 lol ok
This is still one of my favorite songs/ vids. I love mastodon representing ATL. This is what our town is all about. good artists of all shapes and types. \m/
This song holds many heartfelt memories for me. When this song had just launched, my longtime schoolmate had just opened a heavy metal bar and lounge on the island. To be honest he had just taken over ownership of the only heavy metal hotspot on the southern end of our twin island republic, only he had renamed it. It had gone through four name changes since it opened its doors in the 80's. The time I'm writing about was mid 2010's. He named the bar the Sound Cloud Pub, after the popular app. The original idea was that any artist/band/performer could get a chance to display their talents but it eventually turned into a popular hangout for us metalheads to showcase our expressions through metal. There was a stage with a pretty expensive kit always available. An immaculate 9 pcs kit from Sonor drums; (those 9pcs includes a double pedal setup, with triggers). There was also an amp for guitars readily available. One Friday night when everyone had gone home me and my schoolmate, named Matthew, were hanging out in the bar. He asked me if I was still a fan of Mastodon. You see, I had bought their first album, Call of the Mastodon based on the cover art. I honestly didn't know who Mastodon was, but the name said it all. They had to be heavy. And as a fan of prog, they did well by me. Anyways, Matt informed me that Mastodon had taken a different turn since the Call of the Mastodon album, and proceeded to show me this video. We had a good laugh. One of those laughs where you just laugh and forget about the "pressures" of life. After that, Matt became all depressed like, y'know? He told me the people he'd hired out of trust and consideration had done him wrong. That was the reason there were no more workers or employees, because he was being hi-jinxed. I asked him how long he had known me. He recounted my first three steps into college. I told him, "exactly". I told him that this bar wasn't just his dream. It was a haven for us. Metal has no place in a Caribbean society, so you made one. I engaged him my services for free, because I wanted people like me to have a place to come to after work. We became the trending joint in the small and secretive community metal has garnered on our flyspeck islands. However, long story short, all good things must come to an end. We never suceeded in keeping "the dream" afloat. Now, we rent out local bars for the night when we need to do a show, when at one point we had our own. Now there are no more local joints promoting metal music as it is considered by the majority of "Christian" sheeple to be Taboo and "Of the Devil". Anyways, this song makes me long for that time period again.
Great story mate. I'm sorry to hear that the spirit of Mastodon and metal in general has fled from your local spot but I hope those memories live on and inspire good feelings and joy from time to time.
Mastodon have always had the greatest videos ever. I was let down a little by the High Road video, but this has restored my faith lol. I like the song a lot better too.
This… is easily the greatest god damned music video of all time. It starts out all serious, using cliché, abstract, heavy metal video imagery nonsense, then gets silly, climaxing with a dramatic garage door opening reveal, ENTER TWERKZILLA!! Using the footage of her jumbo clapping butt cheeks, to make that psychedelic vortex sequence through the guitar solo, was nothing short of pure genius. 😂 I’ll bet everybody involved in making this video, the band, the dancers, and even the people filming and editing it, probably had one of the the best times of their lives filming, and putting it all together.
I’ll b honest I had never heard of mastodon until this year and it was a tragic event tht lead me too them, my 20 yr old neighbor was found dead at home by his mum, he had meningococcal septicaemia. He was a massive mastodon fan and was an amazing drummer R. I.P Karl
Everyone's talking about the video (understandable) but the lyrics are absolutely beautiful, heart warming. I've battled with severe psychotic depression for many years now and these lyrics bring to my mind many healthcare professionals that have tried to help me, brings tears in my eyes. :'-)
Okay, so I'm late to the party. Just discovered Mastadon, and they're literally the mashup of everything I love from some of my other favorite musicians. Queens of the Stone Age, Metallica, Queensryche, Pink Floyd, Megadeth, Sevendust, Yes, Alice in Chains, The Moody Blues, Dream Theatre, Stone Temple Pilots (the early stuff), Chevelle, NIN, The Prodigy... gosh I can keep going. I'm a little embarrassed I just discovered them, but glad I'm here now.
I enjoyed these songs (I mean Mastodon in general) so much during the initial lockdown in 2020. I was asked to work from office. I used to work night shifts, my office was about 2km from my place and I didn't have my own vehicle so I used to walk everyday to office listening this song. The roads were dead empty... Not one being in sight, the only vehicle on the road was either a police car or ambulance van. Office looked like haunted palace coz there were like 5-6 people in place that holds a couple of thousands. Wierd times!! But I'll fondly remembered it thanks to Mastodon ❤️❤️
I love how when the final booty boss lady enters the domain she booty slaps us into a new realm of existence. Just ripping time and space in twain with her bootylisciousness
My friends dad came over and this video was on, he grew up in the 60’ 70’s. And you could see the hope on his face as he saw rock and ass together again like the good ole days. When the Godzilla Booty mamma shows up his eyes were full of joy
Choreographer: "Ok, ladies.. 'bad news / good news'... BAD news, the Nicki Minaj video shoot was cancelled. GOOD news, there's a band that needs you for their video shoot" Dancer #1: "What's the CATCH?" Choreographer: "It's for a white metal band, and the members look like they live in a U-Haul trailer with their gear"
I thought White Metal was just the alternate term for Christian Black Metal, now I'm confused, did they cover this in the last meeting and someone not tell me?
Stephen Perry I agree. I'm not pissed off, just a bit disappointed. Ass has nothing to do with the lyric, I know Mastadon isn't supposed to be serious but c'mon...I hate when the music video is in another tangent from the lyric. -__-
honestly, the drummer deciding to sing was the best choice ever. His voice ROCKS! Glad to hear it in some songs
ShadowCrowX the drummer has always sang. at least since crack the skye album. maybe before that too since they came out

Our guitarist, however, is a huge metalhead. and a MAJOR mastodon fan. We pull up to the clubs parking spot, and our guitarist starts saying "Holy shit, is that fucking Brent? Dude... That's fucking Brent Hinds (sp?)
We had to let him go talk to him while we loaded in gear, cause c'mon.
Cool sweet brag bro.
I met Brann while he was working at Junkman's Daughter (in Little 5 as well) - super cool, very nice guy. Took a picture with me and everything.
Bro that is great stuff 😀
I have heard other people saying simliar histories about Brent. He must be a great human besides an awesome musician. Glad you had this experience.
I can corroborate that. I'm currently in Atl. I used to rehearse next door to Mastodon at this place called Thunderbox. They were always polite but brief.
This song has helped me so much. I'm not out of the woods just now, but listening to this song helps so much. Thank you so much Mastodon
The irony. The mockery. This video kicks some mighty ass.
I get that it's mocking pop culture but you are acting like the women aren't sexy or anything
Or that it wasn't unexpected
The way i took it was sticking to bible beaters and throwing crude women into "sacred art" and basically being like "fuck you and your shackled and judgemental life style"
It's a good video but it's not like i'm gonna go call kim kardashian ugly, or go shit on nikki manaj for twerking.
Finally a video clip of "brazilian funk music" with a decent music. Just Mastodon could do it!

@@soakedbearrd or just a positive song.
This song was my first introduction to Mastodon, I discovered them in the last year, and they are really great! So glad I found them, this is one of my favorite songs now.
One of the best videos in human history
No one:
Mastodon: What if you took the videos for Until It Sleeps by Metallica and Anaconda by Nikki Minaj and just sort of slammed that shit together?
You nailed it

It's 2024, and this is still the greatest metal video of all time.
This is resurrecting rock and roll for me.
Anyone coming in here and dropping positive comments for one of the greatest videos ever, by one of the greatest bands ever, you're a treasure.
It's like... it's like you can feel the waves of smell hitting your face. I finally know what that guy on the Maxell logo was feeling.

People are capable of bathing, which based on your comment, seems like a foreign concept :0

This is the most positive uplifting video EVER! If you can't get happy with booty shaking and lyrics that say "This time, this time, things will work out just fine!" , get some therapy

Right there with you dude! About the song that is...
+Daniel Price Crack the Skye is fucking beautiful
Dude you've got some back catalogue to get through. Like someone else has said "crack the Skye is fucking beautiful"
In fact I'll happily buy that album for someone.
I wish they made that easier. I think people forget that giving music as a present like CDs and tapes and probably records. Gifting iTunes £10 vouchers sucks as a thing to gift someone, anyway I'm high as fuck so I'll shut up.
new fan here too heard this on Pandora. instantly hooked.
check out corrosion of conformity.
similarly popish end of sludge metal but with a stronger southern element. good shit.
I'm just looking at this video for the first time after hearing this song a shitload of times and this is not what I was ready for
One of the greatest music videos of all time
If you pay attention closely, you will hear Mastodon playing The Motherload ;)
Ahahhahaha i thought that
All I can here is booty
What's a Mastadon? Is that like some sort of band? 😁
Sorry. I was abit distracted.
You're right, but i had to watch it a couple times lol
Well, as of April 4th, 2022, Mastodon are still the undisputed world champion's of music and videos. Undefeated to this day thinks to gems like this.
The solo bit when mecca ho 5000 walks in gets me every time
MECHA HO POWERS ACTIVATE!
Going to name my game character "mecca ho 5000" thanks mate!
😂
Right next to the psychedelic twerk visuals
Los solos de Mastodon son algo inexplicable.
The music is really good...I haven't heard anything in rock this exciting in a long time....and obviously they have a cool sense of humour.
Ok
This song should be a radio hit.
This is absolutely 100% the ATL oozing out of Mastadon in every way.
I’m in love with the first woman to appear at 0:44. Good lord I think that is one of the most gorgeous women I have ever seen in my entire life.

I've seen a lot of music videos in my day... This one wins.
This video brings out the black in me every single time I watch it. Sweet baby Jesus..
One of the best videos ever made , anyone trippin needs to wake up
There needs to be a mastodon/gojira tour. That would be fucking sick.
+Spencer Ware The last time I saw Mastodon they were with Gojira.
+ProgPro96 same, but... I had no clue who they were.
Artsy, sepia-toned imagery... AND THEN SUDDENLY THE TWERK KALEIDOSCOPE.
In a Mastodon video of all places.
I'm... I'm okay with this.
+Fleece Johnson Well, you are the Booty Warrior, after all, was there any chance you *weren't* going to be okay with it?
This is what America needs right now.
Sure, America needs to continue to lower its culture....Instead of expanding its culture through science and mathematics, America should focus on Twerking and glam metal🤪 lol ok

Wow awesome story, sorry it didn’t work I hope you get many blessings for that free work you put in 💯
Great story mate. I'm sorry to hear that the spirit of Mastodon and metal in general has fled from your local spot but I hope those memories live on and inspire good feelings and joy from time to time.
How have I gone so long not knowing how amazing these guys are?!?! There is so much amazing music happening right now, I feel like a kid again!
Mastodon have always had the greatest videos ever. I was let down a little by the High Road video, but this has restored my faith lol.
I like the song a lot better too.

Wow. To play this song and sing at the same time is insane

I’ll bet everybody involved in making this video, the band, the dancers, and even the people filming and editing it, probably had one of the the best times of their lives filming, and putting it all together.
I’ll b honest I had never heard of mastodon until this year and it was a tragic event tht lead me too them, my 20 yr old neighbor was found dead at home by his mum, he had meningococcal septicaemia.
He was a massive mastodon fan and was an amazing drummer
