I love a lot of the entries in legends arceus since they are very clearly written by Laventon and show his personality, like how he talks about not understanding porygon's biology because the game takes place in the past before technology has developed.
He also includes homesickness in one of his entries (e.g. Clefable’s entry).
I love how he gets progressively more terrified of Porygon with each evolution
@@charityquill4965 "This worries me"
The him not understanding due to technology applies with Rotom and it’s forms too. Like how he calls the heat form (the one that looks like an oven) a “strange cauldron” or how he calls the mow form a “misshapen wheelbarrow”
In my opinion the best dex entry is Alolan Ninetales Ultra Sun entry: “The Reason it guides people to the mountain’s base is because it wants them to hurry up and leave.”
Introvert me forced to throw a party at my house :
Ik. I saw this one and found it hilarious
Lok
ninetales: i will travel with you to make you leave
I'd never seen this one before and it is incredible
I love how according to the Pokédex, Lampent is the Pokémon equivalent of the saying:
“If you own a cat and you die, your cat will just eat you.”
I also love how in Sword it’s referred to as “an emissary of death”.
Edit: My favourite specific Pokédex entry is Cherubi’s from Legends Arceus. Where it claims that when it evolves it drops the ball of nutrients from its body for other Pokémon to feed on. It’s actually a very wholesome entry that foreshadows Cherrim’s nature (or more so ability) as a Pokémon that exists to assist other Pokémon.
One of altaria’s Pokédex entries is that when it makes friends with a human, it wraps its cloud wings around them and hums a peaceful melody. This is the reason it’s my favourite Pokemon, it’s just so wholesome
I just read another comment talking about swablu liking to gently land on people's heads and pretending to be a hat. They are just so affectionate awww
Yes, most Megas are in pain. Glalie's Sun/Moon entries "The excess energy from Mega Evolution spilled over from its mouth, breaking its jaw. It spews endless blizzards." and "It envelops prey in its mouth, freezing them instantly. But its jaw is dislocated, so it's unable to eat them."
QOTD: my favourite pokedex entry of all time is pidove's shield entry:
“It’s forgetful and not very bright, but many Trainers love it anyway for its friendliness and sincerity.”
because that's just me, it's just a little bird me
also pidove's german name is dusselgurr which basically translates to sillycoo (affectionate) or goofcoo (affectionate)
My favorite pokedex entry is Honchkrow's from Soul Silver: "It is Merciless by nature. It is said that it will never forgive the mistakes of it's murkrow followers."
To briefly summarize, if a murkrow fails to bring food, the honchkrow will hunt it down, and possibly, kill it.
We are good friends, aren't we??
-Sliggoo asks while melting you calmly
when your walking around a beach and then suddenly all the spheal there start clapping and looking at you
I faintly remember Banette's dex said it was a toy that was thrown away and now after the original owner for revenge.
6:05 spoilers - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 1 (Red/Blue Rescue Team) has a Gengar that used to be human before it was cursed by a Ninetales for touching one of its tails.
I’ve always been under the impression that mega evolution (and also dynamaxing but I’m not actually sure if I got that idea from the game) cause Pokémon a significant amount of pain, and therefore refused to use it
I love yanmega's. People rarely talk about it with disturbing pokedex entries.
Yanmega's entry isn't particularly disturbing. It can bite your head apart, but it's not like most other fully evolved pokémon couldn't do something similar if they wanted to. E.g. Blastoise can blast through thick steel, so can definitely blast through your skull.
7:54 Gengar being my fav pokemon that entry is outta pocket. They sound super fuckin evil now 💀Please dont kill me 0_0
Nintales entry from the original 150 pokemon handbook. "Nintales is a very smart pokemon that likes plotting revenge against enemies. If you grab one of its tails Nintales may put a thousand year curse on you." Why does it like plotting revenge and how do you groom it without holding a tail and getting cursed?! Does it cures it's trainer if it likes them?
The Magmar entry in sword where it mistakenly burns its prey to a crisp without knowing what it did
My favorite Pokedex entry is the one where they talk about how people use darumaka droppings to put in their coats for warmth
Lighting bolts are as hot as the surface of the sun. As long as your not standing next to macargo, your gonna be fine.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who claps after a meal because I’m proud of it
I am John's future. "Palasand is my buddy" you will be bullied by everyone because you forgot the name of sandygast
React to Hatterene’s Pokédex entry and her second evolution’s Pokédex entry, quite disturbing if you think about it long enough, made a lot of memes though.
I cannot believe Ash has not died when he sent out his sligoo
Geodude: “It’s round form makes it easy to pick up. Some people have used them to hurl at eachother in a snowball fight.”
Just FYI the Fire Red entries are actually the oldest ones, they are from the original Japanese Red and Green - where as Leaf Green entries are from Japanese Blue aka Red and Blue.
I live in a town named after the scientist who conducted that elephant experiment. Rest in peace Topsy.
I still love the idea that Machamp can destroy mountains with its punches and/or can punch 1000 times a second.
Screw physics
Joooooohn your the Pokémon guy your not supposed to forget MOVIES LIKE THIS 4:27
Pokémon: Jirachi-Wish Maker
Though really I’m happy to watch these videos I don’t really care for you not knowing just being a little fun.
everybody gangsta until subtitles call feebas five a**
Fake trees and plants don't require any attention so they won't need to water it daily. Also it's one thing that can outlive old people.
Primeape has a dex entry sequel: Annihilape. He has surpassed death!!!
Oh the gengar entry could be a reference to Mystery Doungon
I feel like that first list is just rather common knowledge
Alakazam has 5000 IQ yet still can't remember more than 4 moves at any one time 🤨
It’s simple. Primape is mad about life.
2:20 Well supposedly that was a real thing people in the American plains did with buffalo droppings.
9:00 That's the point. It was so angry it died, but only in death can it find peace. When there is nothing left to enrage it.
9:30 well THAT just sounds like you've never seen a cartoon pony before. Seriously, they all do silly stuff like that. :D
I think they made Mega Evolution dex entries so horrific in the hope that people would empathize with the Pokémon and be fine with the mechanic being done away with.
... wow the website didn't use one of gengars entries from one of the sun moon ultra sun ultra moon games. More specifically the one that states. Gengar: Should you feel yourself attacked by a sudden chill, it is evidence of an approaching Gengar. There is no escaping it. Give up.
Edit: actually they used one of them. Sun and moon. The one used is from the opposite version.
9:49 Pretty sure Master Trainer Arianna and Trainer Marin like Seaking enough.
10:49 So, you're saying it's okay to bully people who aren't? 🧐
i like the one that says that magicarp can jump over moutans lololololololololol
My favorite pokedex entry/entrys is most of the dragon type pokemon
Sligoo wanting to eat food and instead it’s friends
My favorite is Drampa in Ultra Sun.
I will not be explaining this.
did you know that garchomp literally melts its blade hands in order to mega evolve?
Oooh you should watch the “if pokedexes were literal” by dorkly I’m sure you’ll have a great time with those
Also the Bagon jumping off cliffs thing uhmmm they based an entire episode in the anime about it 😅 some random episode in the Hoenn seasons 😂😂 it wants to fly so bad that it dives to the ground head butting rocks and at the end of the episode it’s so happy about jumping off the cliffs it evolves into Shelgon 😂😂
"fish are friends, not food".
According to the pokédex and sinnoh myths, they're definitely food.
They might be friends too though. Why not have a friend you can eat?
There is one that is super creepy hypno in fire red it says there was once A incident where it took away a child
That magicarp entry can be confirmed if you play magicarp jump long enough
I think the image with Dusclops is from the Jirachi movie. I may be wrong. Feel free to correct me. It's been a while
If your nose itches while reading drowzees dex entry then that means you know someone in a relationship with one
The Dusclops image is from Pokemon wish maker movie
Tyranitar is as big as 3 mountains stacked on top
Gengar is literally a ghost you can't touch it
John thinks that litwick is cute
John hugs litwick
John has his soul drained
John dies
R. I. P. John ;(
I love the implication that people can turn into pokemon
Gengar terrifies me
Klefki: **exist**
Random trainer: “it’s just jingling, MENACINGLY!”
I think my favorite one is Sudowoodo from Arceus where it says “even kids know it’s not a real tree”
Cue that one side quest guy that thinks watering it will help it feel better LOL
@@charityquill4965 respect to the guy.
My favorite pokédex entry is swablu's "For some reason, it likes to land on people’s heads softly and act like it’s a hat."
I just find it super adorable
Lol imagine a pirate with a swablu that puffs up it's body in a way to look like a traditional pirate hat
@@charityquill4965 dying of cuteness Overload
@@charityquill4965 YES I WAMT TO SEE SOMEBODY WITH A SWABLU ON THERE HEAD IN A GAME
@@charityquill4965 lol imagine a regional swanky like that. Also it would make so much sense in paldea there’s always been lots of pirates in that area.
My favorite Pokédex entry is the one on snorlax in legends arceus. It says, "This glutton appears in villages without warning and devours the entirety of their rice granaries-such occurrences have long been counted among the gravest of disasters."
Kadabra's always stands out to me. "It happened one morning, a child with extrasensory abilities woke up as a Kadabra." Why the hell is this so damn casual?????
S-so like are we doing chi o d abuse or?
The child was named Kafka
People used to be Pokémon. People used to marry Pokémon.
Becoming one was probably low on the red alert levels.
@@geckoheckometamorphosis 😂
Change: In Legends: Arceus, the Indian Elephant mentioned in Raichu's Pokedex entry was changed to say Copperajah.
My personal favorite is Porygon Z in Legends Arceus, I just think it’s funny how worried it makes Laventon.
Bruh the entire Arceus dex is awesome
“Ah, sweet. Manmade horrors beyond my comprehension.”
Hi
Op
Laventon has reason to be scared, because the Dubious Disc that's needed to obtain Porygon Z is supposedly alien technology
8:39 and imagine that in gen 9, they actually followed up on this entry and gave Primeape an evolution whose literal method is using a move called RAGE Fist enough times that Primeape basically dies and becomes a fighting/ghost type (the first non-mythical fighting/ghost type, btw). That is amazing how they're building off pokedex entries to give new evolutions to pokemon.
I love annihilape so much for that
10:04 Macargo is one of my favorite pokedex entires, but it's because it says that any water that makes contact with it evaporates. WELL THAN WHY IS IT 4 TIMES WEAK TO WATER
Some of my favorite recent entries are for the various forms of Rotom in PLA. It's fun seeing that Laventon clearly has no grasp as to what the modern appliances Rotom possesses are, so he just guesses what they are (mostly as strange variants of things he is familiar with)
Like what?the grass one he thinks is a pair of scissors
@@ezraortega6734
"Strange Cauldron" (Heat)
"Odd Bureau" (Wash)
"Bizarre Cupboard" (Frost)
"Mysterious Contraption" (Fan)
"Misshapen Wheelbarrow" (Mow)
One of my favorite entries comes from Alcremie's Gigantamax form in Pokémon Shield just because of how insanely ridiculous it is.
"It launches swarms of missiles, each made of cream and loaded with 100,000 kilocalories. Get hit by one, and your head will swim."
100 Calorie treats. Noticed the "Calorie" is capitalize. Kilocals are Calorie in capital.
Hey PokeMEN7! I recently found your channel and am really enjoying your videos! I doubt you'll read this but if you do could you maybe start a Soul Link with Michael or Purplecliffe? I would absolutely love it! Keep it up, I can't wait for more :))
Do it
He should do that
i doubt michael would do that, but that would be a cool series
Yup Michael is definitely not doing that
And with Jack i doubt it will go smoothly
Since Jack in nuzlocke is 😬
My favorite dex entry is golissopod's shield entry where it mentions that it and grapploct hunt each other and have an epic fight to the death in a sunken ship, where the winner eats the loser.
Imagine how epic that hunt would be on the anime, minus them eating each other lol
@@Statzifysportsstats that would be badass!
As if golisopod wouldn't peace out after a single hit.
That just makes me think of the final boss fight from metal gear solid 4
My favorite pokedex entry is Dracovish's Sword Entry: "Powerful legs and jaws made it the apex predator of its time. Its own overhunting of its prey was what drove it to extinction."
Shield’s entry is much better: Its mighty legs are capable of running at speeds exceeding 40 mph, but it can’t breathe unless it’s underwater.
@@giantswingallday7001 I don't know, something about it driving itself to extinction is really funny to me
Wait, I thought Dracovish was an abomination created from us putting the wrong two fossils together? Is Dracovish actually what it's supposed to be??
@@kirakotobuki9195 maybe they could crossbreed in their time and make weird fusions??
My favorite Pokedex entry was for either Sandyghast or Palosand, don't remember which. But it said something along the lines of "Any who grab its shovel will be possessed and forced to build up the pokemon and make it larger." Something like that. What can I say? I love the possession/mind control angle.
I remember there's a part in Ultra where we can meet a mind-controlled kid who tries getting the player to mess with the Sandygast too, like, they use human victims to lure in other humans, and that's pretty creepy.
@@13CrystalHeart Woah. I played the Ultra games and never saw that! So creepy yet so cool.
Sorry, but John doesn't know what that pokemon is
Gourgeist has some of my favorites, there's a different one for each size. Small pretend to be kids to take adults to the afterlife, large pretend to be adults taking kids to the afterlife, and super sized will just take anyone LOL
Average size are just chillin. The wails are said to be souls suffering in the afterlife.
Also all of the sizes sing as it strangles its prey so that's cool.
Spectrier from Sword: “It probes its surroundings with its senses, save one - it doesn’t use its sense of sight. Spectrier’s kicks are said to separate soul from body.”
Lmao, this horse is blind. Also it kicks.
I was expecting Litwick's entry to be the one about its flame burning brighter and eerier when it consumes a child's soul.
Bewear in Moon: “This Pokemon has a habit of hugging its companions. Many trainers have left this world after their spines were squashed by its hug.”
And in Sword: “Once it accepts you as a friend, it tries to show affection with a hug. Letting you do that is dangerous-it could easily shatter your bones.”
I always thought Stufful and Bewear are adorable but my god they can kill you. Also forgot to mention that Stufful’s Shield entry says that its cute flailing can snap large trees.
Gen 7 sure had a thing for horrifying Pokemon with a cutesy facade *glances at mumikyuu*
Someone had apparently did some math regarding Magikarp splashing over a mountain. They apparently found that should it do that, it can easily reach terminal velocity and with it's mass, can pulverize someone that is unfortunately in that Magikarp's landing zone
My favorite is Relicanth's Ultra Moon Dex entry because it is apparently the perfect lifeform
John: “what else other than clefairy and clefable has the moon turned into living Pokémon?
Lunatone: Am I a joke to you?
...Umbreon
Lunala is the literal god of moon
One of my favorite Sw/Sh entries is for Dusknoir. “…swallows its target whole. The soul is the only thing eaten. Dusknoir disgorges the body before departing.” Why didn’t Dusknoir from Gen 4 Mystery Dungeon try that?
Weird soul-melting lasers are cooler, or something.
Or maybe Grovyle was just too big to vore.
@@nathangamble125 What do you mean? Dusknoir is bigger than Grovyle.
4:26 That picture is from the Pokémon movie "Jirachi-Wish Maker"
5:14 I agree. Litwick are adorable! One of my top two favorite ghost type Pokémon.
11:20 Not gonna lie. That's frickin' adorable!
12:09 Unfortunately, a lot of the older entries talk about that but . . . that was never expressed in the show or the games. It actually makes me feel bad because my favorite Pokemon is Lucario and I have a drawing from high school in my room of Mega Lucario because I absolutely love its design. After reading the early entries of them being in a lot of pain though, it's made me concerned for my likeness of the design whenever I look at it.
12:15 I love the ones you read on the list. Especially how Sudowoodo is popular among the elderly. That made me laugh. 🤣
I just imagine Drampa with a can full of gas and a hand full of matches like “gonna bully my boy Jimmy, eh? Not today!”
🦊 Pay attention to the dialogue in Pokemon Legends Arceus and they re-name 3 fox pokemon.
Aloan Vulpix = Keokeo
Zorua = Spiteful Fox
Zoroark= Baneful Fox
I like hisuian typhlosian’s entry, it’s wholesome and it’s entry may have made it my favorite starter in legends arceus. “Said to purify lost, forsaken souls with its flames and guide them to the afterlife. I believe its form has been influenced by the energy of the sacred mountain towering at Hisui's center.”
My absolute favourite Dex entry is from FireRed, and it's of Geodude. "Its round form makes it easy to pick up. Some people have used them to hurl at each other in a snowball fight." Like, WHAT if you throw a ROCK during a Snowball fight, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!
My favourite entry is gengar's, the "give up." one. There's just something so terrifying in this. Sure, there's a lot of killing people pokemons but you can avoid most of them when you have enough knowledge (like staying away from drifloons, being careful with mimikyu's), are a threat when you're already dying (like lampent) or just kills you before you can think of it/feel any pain (like crobat). With gengar everything's fine and suddenly you can feel he's near. You know you're probably dying soon and there's nothing you can do. Also we know how playful usually is gengar. Who knows how much he might follow you, hiding in the shadows, laughing at you before ending your life. I just love all about him
My favorite is Golurk’s Pokédex entry from Ultra Moon “When the seal on its chest is removed, it rages indiscriminately, turning the whole town around it into a mountain of rubble.”
I like chandelure's pokemon Y dex entry: " The spirits burned up in its ominous flame lose their way and wander this world forever"
Sudowoodo has its own magazine huh....
Lemme guess. "Hard Wood" 😕😌😌
Yes I'm proud of that
But it's a rock type. Why would it be interested in wood 😅
I really like Rhyperior's Pokémon go entry,it says that" it will fill it's empty palms with rocks and uses its muscles to shoot them out, sometimes, geodude are shot out of it's palms."
Oshawott's entry in Legends Arceus. The entry reveals it's shell is nicknamed scalchop by Laventon
Professor Laventon was also the first one to dub Lucario’s power “Aura”.
Funny that Primeape's evolution is a nod to that dex entry. Annihilape is part Ghost, so it's literally a dead Primeape that died from anger
One of my favorite pokedex entries comes frome swampered In leaf green. To paraphrase, Its rock hard arms can destroy anything, it builds its nest in the most beautiful place ever. I just find the sheer contrast between these two sentences so funny
Also zoroark has a weird one from shield, it basically says that lonely trainers tell zoroark to show them illusions to ease there burden
my fav is probably rowlets ultra moon entry that says it loves cramped spaces and uses its trainers pockets or bag as a nest. its a callback to the anime and ash's rowlet loving his backpack
Try reading through the Pokémon handbook (galar) and see those entries. Every page will creep you out. Try starting with Gengar. Or look between agislash’s entry in both the alola and galar ones. It turns from a Pokémon that lives with kings to mind controlling people and Pokémon to force them to make kingdoms. Weird.
Real-world references were okay in Gen I because the only region that existed was named after a real-world location as well, so it fit back then. They're progressively replacing all real-world references for their pokémon-world equivalents on the dex entries. Raichu's "Indian Elephant" got replaced by "Copperajah". They'll probably replace "Eiffel Tower" for "Prism Tower" if Ponyta's dex entry ever gets used again.
You should really react to
"If Pokémon entries were real" by dorkly
Or terminals Pokémon battle royals
I have 2 favourite Pokédex entries but they have to go together to make sense, they’re both for Legends Arceus
Teddiursa: “It licks its paws because of the sweet honey that has soaked into them. It is cunning, stealing into the nests of Combee and taking for itself the honey that the Combee have amassed.”
And then Vespiquen: “Commands its subjects to build its hive. It will dispatch any interlopers who dare sneak into its nest and use them as nourishment for itself.”
This is obviously very horrifying but it’s also really interesting to me, I really love a Vespiquen thanks to a really positive experience I had with it in a mono bug run I did and this just adds to its badassness, irl queen bees literally have to fight to the death to see who gets to be queen and it’s very likely the same happens here
I´m not completely sure but I think the dex entry for Sudowoodo may be a reference to the fact that taking care of Bonsai trees is a pretty popular hobby among japanese elderly people.
some of my fav dex entries, i cant chose one favortite lol:
Umbreon (sun) - "When this Pokemon becomes angry, its pores secrete a poisonous sweat, which it sprays at its opponent's eyes."
Luxray (black/white) - "It can see clearly through walls to track down its prey and seek its lost young."
Magikarp (soulsilver) - "A Magikarp living for many years can leap a mountain using Splash. The move remains useless, though."
these are the ones i can remember
also bonus to Cacturne entry in the video, it doesnt seem as bad with the one entry but i must relay knowledge that scars me to this day:
(Sapphire) "If a traveler is going through a desert in the thick of night, Cacturne will follow in a ragtag group. The pokemon are biding their time, waiting for the traveler to tire and become incapable of moving." doesnt sound as bad but lets pair it with a different entry
(FireRed/LeafGreen) - "It lives in deserts. It becomes active at night when it hunts for prey exhausted from the desert's heat."
_its hunting people_
The first one is kind of debunked. The “Indian Elephant” is Copperajah. An updated version of this dex entry I think is in Legends Arceus
