And in Gen 1, the only Pokémon that could learn the move Lick was the Gastly line. (And Jynx)
Maybe if they just went with Gastly, then it would make more sense.

Honestly so funny that he is willing to accept a Pokémon can have two different animals as it’s origin, and that he uses names to prove it in the case of Squirrel + Turtle = Squirtle, but not in the case of Mammoth + Swine = Mamoswine. Mamoswine being a pig does not preclude it from also being a mammoth!

Squirtle: has a tail that could vaguely resemble a squirrel's and zero squirrel features in the names and appearances of either of its evolutions

Mamoswine: has a pig nose, the overall shape of a wild boar, and is the evolution of two other pokémon that also have 'swine' in their names
John: "IT'S NOT A PIG HOW DARE YOU!"
This would be a great challenge for John Michael Cup season two. It would be hilarious to watch!
In the anime, Gengar's tongue is legendary 😂 he uses it constantly lol, that's why the emoji for that one. Smile + tongue is perfect for him tbh

A big thing about Gengar and Haunter is that they know the move lick, plus, Gengar is often seen using its tongue in animations in the games.
1: Mouse + Lightningbolt could be any of the Pikaclones.
2: Gengar in PMD has an idle animation of it sticking out its tongue. Also, its line learns Lick.

That Garchomp one was genius, the Champion’s signature pokemon from Diamond, Cynthia’s Garchomp! I thought it meant the Legendary from Diamond so I said Dialga, but seeing Garchomp appear made much more sense
My logic went way off into Pokemon rap cyphers here, and my first thought was Diancie for the singular line in the Champion cypher "Diantha looking like a legend like a Diancie". Right idea with champions, just wrong source material to focus on. XD

As soon as the Garchomp came on screen, I understood it immediately. I was completely stumped before it showed up
My logic for the diamond was that Gabite hoards jewels and since Garchomp is the evolution of Gabite it would have a bunch of diamonds in it's den even after it evolves.

Turtonator is SO clever. Shell trap is it's signature move which is literally an explosion...yet i've never connected it to it's shell design which is LITERALLY an explosion emoji!
The last part of its name is short for "detonate", meaning an explosion as well.

The Japanese name for magikarp is koikingu or "koi king". The emoji set fits. I guessed gengar! So happy!

This is definitely interesting because all emojis have various meaning, and when it's paired with something else, it can completely mess with your mind. Not really competing against anyone, but learning instead.

Definitely a fun batch. The Shedinja one was one I actually got, as the +1 really sold it for me given how we get one extra Pokemon when Nincada evolves.
Pretty sure the +1 is just a reference to Shedinja's HP though, not the fact that you get an extra Pokemon upon evolution.

Mamoswine is both a Mammoth and a Pig. the Mamo part of its name is for Mammoth and the Swine part of its name is for Pig.
Also, the Gengar one makes sense, Gengar is known for smiling and is also popular for sticking out its tongue and such to be scary.
for gengar, in the show, he's always grinning and sticking is tongue out while laughing

Gengar, especially in the 3D animations usually attacks with his tongue out.
Especially with how the pre-evolution, Haunter, explicitly stated by the Pokédex to like to lick things.

Fun fact about the last one, the Pokémon’s pre evolution hoarded gemstones in Super Mystery Dungeon which is how I got it instantly. So Theres a secondary way to figure it out.
