Hi, I am from India. One of my friends made this curry for us some 2 years back and it tasted so yummy and he taught me to prepare. He has sent some cubes all the way from Japan. So today I am making it for lunch.
Thanks so much! We really needed to update the blog post from 2013... and we always wanted to make a video of it. So happy we got it done after almost 10 years...
this was the curry recipe that taught me how to make curry and now i make it once a week for our house! feels weirdly nostalgic to finally see it in video form... i think i'll make curry tomorrow!
To Everyone! I've made this meal 3 or 4 times and making it again tonight! It is absolutely incredible! This Girl knows how to cook! My very best to you and your family and thank you so very much for sharing this incredible recipe!
I made this recipe once already, my college kids who go to Japanese curry restaurants, said this is GOOD! So I am revisiting to make it again and save the video for future reference.
I made this the other day and it turned out great! I ended up tweaking it a bit, which I usually would never do for a recipe I’ve never made before, but the end result was great!
I've been using your Curry recipe since I was in middle or high school and I still make it to this day. I adjusted it slightly to my specific preferences, but I always pull up the recipe anyway. Thanks for all the great recipes! 💗
I did this yesterday and it was soooo amazingly delicious! I used Envy apple for extra sweetness & added few buttons of dark chocolate. I used Kokumaro curry blocks (it will be quite balanced curry flavor & i like sweet curry base). It is the first time i did japanese curry and turned out to be delicious (than some restaurants 🤣) thank you so much for your recipe. It will be our home recipe definitely!
Your recipe was the first one I learned from for Japanese style curry and it always turns our great! I usually put yams and pumpkin in mine too. There’s always so much left over so it’s great for a student 😋
Hi Karl-Robert!!! Thank you for saying that and it means so much to me... We stopped filming the intro and ending (need an additional one day to film) because most people skip those segments as they had really low views (so sad!). We instead use the time to make another video, which is why we have been able to produce a video weekly now. We just had to make a decision as we felt we're not using our time well. 🤗
Have you already made a beef curry recipe before? Can I just change the chicken with pieces of seared chuck and replace the chicken stock with beef stock? Or is it an entirely different recipe?
Hi Rossy! Aww, thank you so much! We stopped filming the intro and ending (need an additional one day to film) because most people skip those segments and it has really low views. We instead use the time (for filming and editing those segments) to make another video, which is why we have been able to produce a video weekly now. 🤗
When you add the liquid and if it covers completely, keep the lid open to cook the ingredients. If the liquid barely covers, then use a lid to cook. If you already finished cooking, then only way is to let the water evaporate. But curry burns quickly (it's thicker paste, so it burns on the bottom of the pot), so you have to be very careful when you're heating the curry. Low heat, making sure scraping the bottom so it doesn't get too hot. :)
This looks fantastic. Personally I start by browning the chicken in batches, then cooking the onion in the rendered chicken fat for more flavor. Besides that, the recipe I’ve used for awhile is essentially the same. The inclusion of apple, honey, and ketchup are interesting, I’ll have to try them out next time.
I think it's easier with a non-stick pan/pot, but I usually don't use non stick pans/pots and the chicken always sticks unless i put a lot of oil... It's very common to use additional ingredients (I talked about all the variations on the blog post) in Japan. Hope you give it a try!
I love Japanese Chicken curry, looks so delicious, you made it so easy to make. Thanks for sharing this recipe 🥰🥰 Have a blessed weekend Stay healthy and blessed 💕
Thank you so much for this recipe! Made it today and it absolutely amazing. Your video was great not only because it was clear and easy to follow but also the music was amazing and made the cooking process so much more relaxing
Will be making this soon will use mushrooms and tofu instead for the curry as am a vegan i never had japanese curry before perfect for my after office meals with rice love your recipes making me hungry Thanks Ramya
Sounds good, but don't feel like you have to replace the chicken. Vegan curry can actually be made just by using the same ingredients she used, except without chicken broth and meat. Many restaurants offer their curry with just carrots, onions, and potatoes, and it tastes just as good. If I were vegan, I probably wouldn't put mushrooms or tofu, just because they secrete a lot of water, and I don't think mushrooms go well with curry in terms of flavour.
Maybe if you brown the mushrooms first, it will help them get rid of excess water and stay more firm in the curry. I once added zucchini because I had one leftover and I thought it went quite well with the curry (but add it closer to the end , 5-10 mins, as it gets incredibly soft if overcooked and will just disappear 😄!)
I can tolerate your homemade curry The curry from the asian shops like Ottogi curry Or I can't tolerate Tai curry well, I feel sick 🤢🤮 I have no idea why it is, well anyway, I don't have to give up curry dishes anymore 😁 Thanks for the recipe
i made this tonite with chicken breast tenders instead of thighs and the taste was exquisite.. (i added yellow bell pepper to mine and 2 more cloves garlic..) so good!! thank you 😋❤️
I followed your recipe today WOW!Besr homemade chicken curry ever tasted. My adult children even loved it . It was delicious and simple and the aroma it leaves in the house so good. S&B curry powder made the difference So So Good Thank you for taking the time to teach us💓

As an Indian, I like this kind of curry! It's a nice change.
Best Curry recipe I've seen on RUclips, good job!

the apple? Whoa... ok making this for my family for the first time this week. Thanks for the recipe!!!!
Today I've tried it for the first time and I am quite happy with the result. Great recipe.
I never thought to add ginger or apple and honey like that 🤭 I'm gonna try that next time I make curry!
Hope you enjoy!
Watching this just soothed my soul
I make this curry at least once a month; my family loves it
I'm so happy to hear that! Thank you!!!

I made this tonight with the S&B curry mix and this recipe. My first try at a Japanese dish. It was fabulous!
I’ve made your curry a few times now and we enjoy it every time. Thank you!
It all looks very beautiful ❤️ thank you for this amazing video.

Thank you so much 💕💕

What do you change to add the pumpkin in? Any extra spices? Pumpkin is bound to change the flavor. Do you blend the pumpkin or slice it?
So looks yummy Japanese curry
Your work is absolutely wonderful, i love it
This recipe looks good to try this as well.
That looks perfect! I will make it tomorrow.
Hope you enjoy the recipe, Joe!

wowwwwwwwwww I can smell delicious from here ,, amazing
Thank you Andrea!
Good cooking
That looks amazing
Thank you for watching!
nice recipe. I prefer to leave some fat as that is used for frying and flavor with less oil!
Love your videos. 😀
Good recipe 👍🏻

The Apple and honey is quite surprising to me. But then again japanese curry is known to be a bit sweeter than others.
Salting your homemade roux would preserve it better than not. Salt is a natural preservative.
I'm making this tonight! I just need ginger and an apple, I have everything else!
Hope you enjoy!
oh AWESOME
Thank you!
I love chicken. Beef is quite costly in my home country and pork in curry does't quite taste right if it is not in tonkatsu.
How many portions does this make? Also does it freeze well? I love meal prepping 😍
Hii.., I'm Your new subscribet. I just seen your video. Mmmmm....yummy love it. Makes me mouthwatering...🤩😉😄
Thank you million for share your recipe..
Wow! ang sarap naman nito.. 🤤 New subscriber here 😊 Supporting my fellow food vlogger.. ☺🥰
Hello nami. Haven’t seen your face for so long. Hope you are well. Miss seeing you talking. 😊
Jusr a question Nami-san. What do you call that technique where you roll the carrot while chopping? I heard there is a name for that.
It's called rangiri.
Is there a way to make the roux without butter?
Hello, i'm french. Sorry for my english. Thank you for your recipe. I have a question : Can we use chicken breast ?
is the apple for texture or just flavor? wondering if it is okay to substitute unsweetened applesauce?
Is it possible to only use curry powder instead of the curry part?
حلو احب طبخ jaban
Have you already made a beef curry recipe before? Can I just change the chicken with pieces of seared chuck and replace the chicken stock with beef stock? Or is it an entirely different recipe?
Yes, you can do so. Enjoy!
What size is that Staub? Quarts?
What’s the white kitchen tool called that was used to grind down the ginger and apple?
I've seen various similar names used such as garlic grater, grater plate, ceramic grater etc.
This is what I have and I LOVE IT! amzn.to/3bl5xfB

I die a little inside whenever people skin potatoes and carrots...
What can I do if my curry is too watery? How can I thicken it?
When you add the liquid and if it covers completely, keep the lid open to cook the ingredients. If the liquid barely covers, then use a lid to cook. If you already finished cooking, then only way is to let the water evaporate. Thanks a lot! @@justonecookbook
Curry look really tasty but I guess it will be sweet because of honey and carrots. Am I right?
You don't add a lot of it, so I won't say it's sweet at all. It's just hint of sweetness behind the curry flavor.
How do I find the curry roux?
Nice work 👍... Dear New Friend 🔔🔔🔔... Full watching 🤝🥰🥰🥰
Why play with the blocks to desolve them ? Just chop, chop. chop the blocks up and stir them in. It's easier and faster.
What is the ginger grating plate called?
ceramic grator plates!
@@brunobucciarati834 thank you very much!
