I've been on a mission to find the best Japanese Curry recipe. This is the 7th recipe I have tried. I think I have found the best one thank you. I have tried this recipe with chicken as well and it's great.
It is divine. I made this for just myself, and now I have lunch for tomorrow! The extras like the apple, ginger, tomato paste, red wine and Worchester sauce make it taste really special. With a rough day like today for me, this dish can really turn it around into a better one.
This is the best version, no doubt. A harmonious build up. I made just a few small changes that confirm how good this recipe is: use a pressure cooker, replace the worcester-sauce with a tea spoon of tamarind paste, dont start with peeling the potatoes but do this while the beef is in the cooker and finally, optional but visually striking, add a generous handful of frozen edamame along with the potatoes. Thank you Nami.
I am beyond impressed with your cooking skills, the succinct duration and fluent presentation of such art. No need for life's narration or 3 episodes of Naruto's / anime backstory. Once in a blue moon I cook Japanese curry but would often forgot the steps, however finding this gem is surely a blessing. Please my word of appreciation. Have a great day.
I just made chicken curry tonight with Vermont Curry mild and added worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, soy sauce and cocoa powder. It was delicious.
I made this for the first time last night... it was amazing! my husband loved it so much and i packed it for work for him! The taste is savory and sweet but not overwhelming. I have never made a dish like this before and by following your video, I was able to make it well! Thank you for sharing your awesome recipe!
This is so much more elaborate than how I make it, but I’m going to try this tomorrow. My son loves curry and I was looking for suggestions to make it better. Thanks!
Yes!!! I work at a Sushi and Ramen place, and while we usually just have some ramen, or a rice bowl, every once in a while my boss will make us all Japanese Curry. It's so good!!! I always want to take some home, but we never have left overs. As far as I can tell this is pretty similar to his, maybe a bit less thick, and he doesn't use apples. But I want to try it!
This is my favorite recipe! It’s really easy, just takes a while, but it’s a labor of love. This is so worth the extra time to make it, plus it keeps well.
Brilliant recepe! i followed it and my kids loved it :) they ask me to make it for them a lot now, thank you so much for the time and effort you put into making this🥰 私はそれを作り、私はそれを愛していました.どうもありがとうございました!
Hahaha. I love Japanese curry, too, and I get craving when I see someone eating Japanese curry... Now that we're talking about it, I want to eat it... :)
I had beef curry the other day at a Japanese restaurant I frequent. But I decided to try the beef curry. The sauce was okay but the beef was not cooked properly. It was tough and flavorless. I was so disappointed. I think they don’t keep good cooks, or something. Since then I wanted a good beef curry. I like what you have done. I think I will try your version.
Nami! It's been so long!! 😁 This looks absolutely delicious, I'm gonna remind myself to try this one. Just looking at his is making me hungry. Another great video again. Looking forward to what you discover next in your kitchen.
Though I have never cooked with red wine before. I’m guessing there is a red wine specifically for cooking with and not just a random bottle from the alcohol shelf? ^ - ^
i wanna sob i just watched ur sushi video and i think that ur my new favorite channel, theres just something so calming about these tutorials oh my gosh
Hello, thank for share this recipe with us, i have a question what can i use if i cannot find the Jappanese Curry powder, i am from Costa Rica and it is hard to find those kind of ingredients here, or do you know a way to make mine from scratch, thanks again.
I loved the recipe, however mine was more runny than thick, should I leave it simmer longer than 10 min with the lid on after I added the curry roux? Thank you for your answer
I really wanted to caramelize the onion (that takes a long time)... so I speed up the process by using the two pot/pan. Otherwise, yes, you can use one pot. What's red ginger?
@@juandenz2008 Thanks, I’ll give it a try. When I was stationed in Japan, I would order me a bowl of curry, gyoza, and a large Kirin beer. I went there so many timesI didn’t have to place my order! 😂. Another dish I miss was sabuta!
@@maninifarmer1338 If you want to make Beni Shoga, some recipes call for plum vinegar, but there are other versions that give substitutes like Rice wine vinegar. You might need to experiment a bit to get the taste you want. I hope you can recreate your favorite dishes.
Great recipe as always! Is the use of worcestershire sauce, tomato paste and red wine traditional Japanese style? This recipe gives me Kenji Lopez-Alt vibes (not to be offensive in any manner). Anyway I love you are back to the longer versions, please keep up the good work!
😂 It’s beef curry, so we do use it. Tomato paste can be ketchup too. Worcestershire sauce can be Tonkatsu sauce. Thank you for your kind words. We try to make long videos for recipes that require many steps. 🤗

Man, this looks delicious!!! How does Japanese curry powder vary in taste from a traditional/Indian curry powder? Edit: Do you have a brand for the Japanese Curry Powder & Roux that you can suggest?
This is a delicious recipe, the only thing I advise against is to not caramelize onions with butter because it burns easily on the bottom with the cooking time and vessel
I've been sharing more RUclips #shorts as RUclips has been promoting this type of videos more on this platform... We work so hard to make long videos but not too many people watch them these days. Maybe due to shorter attention span... Very sad!
you "can" use only butter (or olive oil). I personally like the butter addition in the curry - rich, creamier it is really good. But I don't want to too much, so half and half.
Trying to find Japanese curry roux. It's not available where I live. I have 1 more Asian market to visit, if I can't find it there, I'll search Amazon. Japanese curry is my favourite. My Son promised to take me there because it's been a place I've wanted to visit for 40 years. I could have gone when I was younger, but didn't want to bring my Son who was a toddler and who was born with migraines. Now that he's flown the coop I couldn't go because I became disabled with a rare disease and used up my savings. Now he's an adult and wants to treat me!
@@STARSRav3n I found it all on Amazon. I'll check out the recipe now, thanks! Edit: I have all the ingredients, but my garam masala might need replacing. Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. I adore curries, but Japanese curry is my favourite.

You can cook for longer without a lid. You can also add more curry roux if preferred.
Is the curry strong in taste? Or is this dish similar in taste to the traditional beef stew?

Why not put the carrots in with the potatoes? Don’t they get mushy cooking for over 2 hours?
You can add them at the same time, but I prefer to let the carrots cook for longer to enhance their flavor.🙂
