  • I know you've eyeballed it at your local Harbor Frieght. And I know you've wondered if it made any sense to spend that kind of money on an HF gun.
    Well in this video I put them up against a couple of other popular guns so you can see for yourself. No sponsors, no conflicts of interest. I'm just a regular dude, learning how to paint.

    Would not beat your vid but the one thing that caught my eye is you said 30psi. I'm not a professional but have sprayed a lot of my own stuff and 22-24 gives me much better results, especially with the clear coat. A couple too much PSI will dry the paint out before it even hits the car, plus if you look closely you can see the paint literally bouncing off the product. You may get a better finish if you drop the PSI about 6. GREAT vid though

    Excellent video. You can get a nice finish with pretty much any gun. Its all in the technique. I recommend the Iwata Lph400 as a perfect gun for diy and begginers. Sprays nice and easy, super low overspray, can spray sealer/base/clear. Many use it as a dedicated clear gun because of how nice it sprays👌

    I have been spraying for awhile and its always a learning curve with paint and bodywork. Your explanation and process on your paint technique is spot on my man. You Definity have to pay attention to the fine details with the whole paint process. Great video and I agree that the black widow HTE gun is very nice at its price point. I just got the HVLP 1.7 and am looking forward to trying it out. The HTE is the best I have used so far. Nice project!

    Thank you for the "real world" review! I just bought the HF Black Widow HVLP gun to paint my old Toronado, which I'm finishing the restoration on. I was not sure the difference between the HVLP and the HTE, other than nomenclature, and what tip size they come with. I ordered a 1.3 tip and needle set, as my plan is to shoot the epoxy primer with the 1.7, then the base and clear with the 1.3 in the same gun. From what HF told me, they are interchangeable, but I haven't tried it yet. I am wondering if that is the only mechanical difference between the two anyways. I am going to record it, and post the results. Wish me luck!! (new subscriber)

    I’m curious what your thoughts are about using a 30 gal compressor with the 1.3 BW sprayer. A total no go or ?

    • @MattsGarage
      @MattsGarage  9 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t know to be honest. I use a 50 gallon 2-stage and it keeps up. The only real issue is that if doesn’t keep up, then you need to wait until it’s full again. That’s only a problem if you have a wet edge on the paint that flashes off in the time you are waiting. I think that is manageable though. Of course I’m just a moron with a RUclips channel so take my advice with a grain of salt. 😊

    Every job is a learning curve. But if you check sprayguns direct you could get a devilbis flg5 or an ani f160 for much less than these guns and you can get a variety of tips and parts if you want. Just a heads up. No camparison between the flg4 &flg5. Spray pattern on the 5 is pretty big. So is the ani f160. Check out gunmans vids on them

    • @MattsGarage
      @MattsGarage  6 месяцев назад

      Great comment. The gunman is awesome. A big fan of his channel. So you think the flg5 is worth it? I’ll consider it.

    • @MarcBchannel
      @MarcBchannel 4 месяца назад

      I have the flg5 and it's OK. It's not as good as what it's hyped up to be. It does spray clear nice if you crank up the psi to around 29-35psi. It's a fogger. It's probably very comparable to the old BW. I like the Iwata Lph400. Super nice finishes and super low overspray. Perfect for spraying at home

    They’re a SATA replica, not iwata. They’re a decent gun, but I personally don’t think they’re worth $200. If you get one of the coupons or whatever go for it. Good video!

  • @user-un5my5bw4j
    @user-un5my5bw4j 8 месяцев назад

    Heres the thing. You can get an Iwata Kiwami 4 HVLP gun that is cheaper than the Spectrum Black Widow and 5 x better. I use a 1.8mm kiwami 4 for high build primer that I paid $160.00. Then i have the devilbiss DV1-B for base, the DV1-C for clear, and DV1-s mini for spot repair and cerakote. DV1 base and DV1 clear may be $600 but you only spray at 8psi o 12psi with the best finish. The FLG sucks i had a 1.8mm flg 3 weeks and sold it. It sucked

      Kiwami4 is conventional not hvlp, it also recently started going up in price, last I saw it was $270

  • @bosshawg7427
    @bosshawg7427 9 месяцев назад

    Not a fair comparison to be honest. The current FLG5 is loads better than the FLG4 and is priced lower than the BW. A few months ago, you could get a Iwata Kiwami4 for about $180 that destroys the BW. ANI F160 is another low budget choice that makes the BW perform like a toy. Im nust not understanding the infatuation with the BW.

      @@MattsGarage no biggie. Another gun that is well worth the coin is the Astro EuroHE103. It's probably on par with the BW, perhaps a tad better, but for under $100. The BW just needs to come way down in price
