@@CostaAzulFishingDanielGarza you don’t want that cup gun buddy… for less then $200 you can get a 5 gallon pal pump spray rig at harbor freight and then you can get a 3’ extension gun… a big metal trowel and cardboard for the edges and go to town! I have that gun, and it was completely set up wrong for the primer I just shot. It was too thin...and I didn't have an air regulator on it. Back to the drawing board tomorrow! Awesome video, thanks. .

Been painting professionally for 15 years now(I restore construction equipment), and...those guns..are the ONLY ones that I use now. I have found, the better the paint...the better the finish. I've done 11 Bobcats(White, black and orange) with one gun. I've even stretched some to 18 projects. My customers love the results. Just make sure to keep the gun clean, especially the front nozzle. make sure to soak it in acetone, then, with a very fine wire...clean the time holes in the center.
I just bought this purple gun about a month ago or so. Finally got to use it for the first time this past weekend. And I can tell you.....I don't know what I'm doing (misplaced the manual). I had problems spraying paint. I played with the knobs and air pressure ( I have a pressure gauge and moisture filter attached). Now I know how to set the gun up to a basic starting point and know what the knobs do. Thank you for the instructional video. It helped out a great deal. The major issue while I was trying to paint (other than me, operator error), was the paint. I went straight from the can to the sprayer (Rust-Oleum Professional Smoke Gray Gloss Oil-based Enamel Interior/Exterior Paint ). I did not thin out the paint. Was not getting a spray pattern. It was coming out with splatter droplets. So, with this video and thin out the pain, I think I will do better next time. As far as thinning paint.....how thin? I heard to thin out paint to the consistency of milk. OK. 1%, 2%, or whole milk? any advice?
Ok I would use a viscosity cup. You can buy one on amazon. 20-24 sec on an ez zahn 2. Or you can start off by thinning by 25%. 3 parts paint 1 part solvent. Then spray a test piece. If it still sprays dry increase the solvent. Also make sure you pull out the filter from the cup. ( I would do that first) use a filter when you pour in the cup. I have a video where I paint some wheels check it out. Thanks for watching.

Used this gun to paint rustoleum thinned w mineral spirits .looks real good for a cheapo . I like the gun and the price. Not bad at all. Painted my old volvo .
I think "flud" means fluid. Good vid, but I must say you professional guys always set up your guns very wet, so you can work fast. I think for amateurs it's better to set up a bit leaner on the flud ;) and maybe a bit narrower on the fan and then work a bit slower with more passes. What do you think?
Thank you for this tip video. I am one of the new guys to true paint guns. I bought two purple and one green gun from HF and wasn't sure how to get the right pattern set. Awesome instructional video, can't wait to watch more of your vids!.
If you get the automotive two gun kit for 49.99 the one large gun is a devilbiss starting line gun. Same fluid and air cap and parts interchange. If someone wanted to save half the price
Great video brother. I will be painting for the first time ever and out of the 30 ++ videos in the past 2 days on youtube I have watched yours was the only one that showed how to actually tune it and the watch out for, so far with a actual learning demonstration, Not the watch me paint and I tell ya how much they all suck unless you my expensive one which still don't explain the setup up. 1.3, 1.4 tip, open full, use regulator 30 to 40 psi does not explain what the hell I should be looking out for. Again thank you very much for a actual How to
Saul Basua best thing to do is run some lacquer thinner thru it pull the air cap. fluid tip and needle and wipe them down with some thinner. Then put it back together and flush again with clean thinner. I usually leave some thinner in my gun and store my air cap in it. This makes sure no residue will set up if you didn’t get it clean. I store mine hanging up and I use them quite often. If yours will not be used very often then you may just want to flush with solvent till it’s empty and store it dry. Thanks for watching.
You not just saved me money, but you will help me to make money and provide customers with a great paint job. I have been using Gracos for years. I still will use Graco, but for a 2nd paint sprayer, I will be purchasing this type. Your video is appreciated
Great video with nice explanations. Bought one yesterday, and it was a real piece, only would flow 4 oz of water max and was leaking from the flow needle before I could even use it. Now 50 miles to the nearest harbour freight, just about my luck.
The only thing to mention is the gun needs to be cleaned prior to painting. It has a lot of oil and debris from manufacturing. Other than that, excellent video!!!!!!!!
anonymous if you paint a car you going to need larger air compressor. This gun requires a minimum of 6 cfm at 40 psi. You would be better off to get something bigger than that.
anonymous 6 cfm at 40psi is what the gun called for, but Before I went out and bought an air compressor I would do a little research on what you needs may be later with other tools you may need. Air tools for body work are usually air hogs and require quite a bit of air. Look into the requirements of other tools you may need later first.
Im painting my vw bug with this gun. And I set my static pressure at 70psi at the compressor. Through a 15feet hose that gives me about the right amount of dynamic pressure when spraying. Set my fan wide like he says. Marked my fluid knob with a sharpie and turned it all the way in and then turn it out 2.5 turns. Air setting on the gun is wide open. Im mostly 5"-6" away from the part when spraying. This gives me a nice gloss and no runs. I move the gun pretty quick but not to crazy. And do about 3 coats in 15min intervals for my 2K Acrylic single stage paint job in my garage. After that I need to wet sand with 2000 though because of dust nibs. The things that suck with this gun is you don't get a nice football shape spray pattern more like one straight line and it need pretty high air pressure to atomise correctly. But you can still get a decent job out if it if you know how to work this gun.
I am about to clear coat a guitar, and I have the same purple HVLP gun. I agree with the other comments that this covers the “how to” better than any others I have found. Congratulations...
Thanks for the video, if you get one of these guns clean it thoroughly, there is a ton of manufacturer grease on them. It's in the instructions but just wanted to make this point so you don't ruin your paint.

I'm just getting started with learning to paint with a gravity HYLP gun. I presently use the old siphon gun which is easy to use but very slow to paint. Can't thank you enough for posting this lecture up. I saw the Harbor freight $15 dollar gun and wanted to buy it. But also saw a lot of negative comments on how unprofessional or poor the gun paints. Even more so if your a beginner and have never used a paint gun. I do understand that using good tools makes a big difference especially when it come to ease of use and productivity. However when your just getting started and just painting wood, small parts, or iron fencing and not automobiles. The quality is not as important so spending $300 to $800 on a paint gun seems over kill. Especially if you do not know what your doing. I never knew that painting was so technical as you explained showing in the lecture things like checking how much fluid actually comes out of the gun. As well as how using the right size hose for optimal performance of the gun is a factor. Your lecture helped me to realizes that its not just the gun. Its about the whole setup from tank to tip that makes the difference. The goal is to learn quality autobody and painting methods so I can repair and paint my own vehicles. Especially my work truck which gets banged up now and then. So once again thank you for taking the time to share your expertise. I'm hitting the thumbs up and subscribing will start posting question after I review everything in your channel. Do you think I need to take a class on autobody and paint. Or is it possible to learn at home from Your channel, books, videos and repairing junked hoods, doors, and fenders? Basically just doing it...
@@sonnybee8271 iv used the hf gun with no regulator at the psi coming out of the compressor, and it came out perfect. It also used way more paint then it would at the proper psi. But if you got extra paint to waste then so be it. But if your trying to be as efficient as you can, which a DIYer should want to do, then you should spray at the proper psi. If a panel only requires 2 oz why use 5 oz to get the job done? Or if the guy selling you the paint says 2 oz will be more then enough and you go home with 2 oz but your gun isnt set up right so it blows thru that 2 oz before the job is done.. but like I said if you got paint/money to burn sand that's the only way you know then that's fine. But you doing a disservice to everyone trying to learn by watching this

Thanks for straight forward explanation and I saved it to my "How To" videos~!
I have been running my shop with this same gun for years, base and clear most of the time I spray with this but i do prefer a larger tip for clear!
Thanks for the input and for watching!
What will also help with seeing a fan with water put some food coloring in the water
Genius
Great idea🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽❗️
Used this gun to paint rustoleum thinned w mineral spirits .looks real good for a cheapo . I like the gun and the price. Not bad at all. Painted my old volvo .
These guns are great for primer and cheap paint.$9.99 can’t go wrong
I bought this gun.Thank you for this set up video. I intend to paint furniture
They have 3 different part numbers, probably from different manufacture plants - which one? part numbers listed on HF are: 60239 94572 61472
Thanks for the tip!!
Again thank you very much for a actual How to
Glad it helped
Hey man! I really appreciate your time and I like to a ask, some about cleaning the gun, if you have any tips or the right way to clean a paint gun?
Saul Basua best thing to do is run some lacquer thinner thru it pull the air cap. fluid tip and needle and wipe them down with some thinner. Then put it back together and flush again with clean thinner. I usually leave some thinner in my gun and store my air cap in it. This makes sure no residue will set up if you didn’t get it clean. I store mine hanging up and I use them quite often. If yours will not be used very often then you may just want to flush with solvent till it’s empty and store it dry. Thanks for watching.
Spray lacquer thinner thru it or buy an expensive gun cleaning machine
You not just saved me money, but you will help me to make money and provide customers with a great paint job. I have been using Gracos for years. I still will use Graco, but for a 2nd paint sprayer, I will be purchasing this type.
Your video is appreciated
Man this guy is amazing
Great video with nice explanations. Bought one yesterday, and it was a real piece, only would flow 4 oz of water max and was leaking from the flow needle before I could even use it. Now 50 miles to the nearest harbour freight, just about my luck.
"flid delivery" = fluid delivery, right? Great video.
Yes fluid delivery. Thanks for watching
Straight to the point, no filler bs.. thanks!
the ones that complain about this HVLP gun are the exact same ones who don't know how to fine tune their fan pattern.
Yeah, I’m a new guy. Thanks for the vid. I purchased that very spray gun today for painting my bike. Thanks.
The only thing to mention is the gun needs to be cleaned prior to painting. It has a lot of oil and debris from manufacturing. Other than that, excellent video!!!!!!!!
40mick I always run some solvent thru my guns before shooting any thing. Thanks for watching..
anonymous lacquer thinner is good to use.
anonymous if you paint a car you going to need larger air compressor.
Look into the requirements of other tools you may need later first.
anonymous for painting at least 6 cfm at 40 psi and a 30 gallon tank. Hope that helps.
Great video i changed my air fittings to high volume and only use the regulator on the wall works a lot better
Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for watching.
One of the few videos that are straight to the point!! Awesome content sir. 👍
Thank you! This was great!
Thank you. I was just given one of these guns and have never used a paint gun before.
Do you have a video on how to properly clean the gun after painting?
In my last video on panting motorcycle wheels I talk about it briefly. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the info. I’m a new painter with no help but for you guys on RUclips
you gave me a great idea to clean my garage w/ my harbor freight paint gun.....just might have to add a bit of soap
JustUs TX well not sure how well that will work but you can give it a shot! LOL Thanks for watching.
Your looking for something called a pressure washer. lol
You have to clean those guns rite out of the box cause of dabre and the oil they put on those from the factory I always take the whole gun apart
Thanks for this. I’m only painting my own car with single stage paint. I bought this gun to learn on.
A great Vid! Where did you get the separator and gauge?
Harbor freight, thanks for watching!
I am about to clear coat a guitar, and I have the same purple HVLP gun. I agree with the other comments that this covers the “how to” better than any others I have found. Congratulations...
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge & experience with us who aren't professional painters and only paint in the garage from time to time.
Flidddd deliverwy 🤣😂
Thanks for the video, if you get one of these guns clean it thoroughly, there is a ton of manufacturer grease on them. It's in the instructions but just wanted to make this point so you don't ruin your paint.
It’s $8.99 with coupon this weekend!
I have bought a few with the coupon. Thanks for watching
Thanks brother for this video i bought this paint gun to paint my 97 Camry i hope it turns out good. Never painted a car before good luck to me.
I started my body shop with 500 dllrs on tools from HF 14 yrs ago now im working for somebody else's!!. 😂😂
I know several shop owners that use hf tools withouth a prob
So, in other words you gave some shity paint job on your customer's cars. 🤣🤣🤣
@@harryl8234what!! all stores and brands have good and crap tools, and Ill admit that most snapon tools I own is topnotch but there is other brands that perform at the same level while being less expensive...I own all kinds of tool brands snapon, dewalt, milwakee, potercable, harbor freigth, made in China, home made, yard sale and alot of new companies with diff names....and as long as u pick the rigth tool and have the correct setup they all perform with great results...my large compressor potercable frm tractor supply, that same compressor home depot and lowes sells just different brand n paintjob(lowes has is as kobalt and homedepot as dewalt) and in this case its the exact same compressor all 3 of them say made in Mexico on the motor and Made in U.S.A on the tank....my older dewalt battery impact says made in Mexico my newr dewalt impact says made in China....my made in China diagnostic tablet scanner tat cost me 3k outperforms the namebrand scanners
This is one of the best explanation videos I’ve ever seen. Thank you for taking the time to make it.
Thanks for watching.
Just don’t buy the small gun for small touch up it comes with a aluminum bowl that won’t stay upwards and the trigger shaft nut leaks bad if you try and tighten it will snap buy a Home Depot Husky better quality
I have never had an issue with this paint gun....and have used it many times! I would recommend it to anyone
Do some research and practice. RUclips is a good source for info. Thanks for watching.
40-50 psi is way too much if your spraying automotive paint. 30 psi is probably the most you would want to spray at, maybe even less
is there something wrong with my pressure reg.at the gun working properly/?It goes to 0- 40psi ,no inbetween unless I lower it T THE COMPRESSOR?
But you doing a disservice to everyone trying to learn by watching this
Jake Clauson I’m buying this gun tomorrow to do my entire truck. What psi do I need to run my gun at and what size compressor do I need? I’ve heard anything from 20 gallon to 60.
Very helpful vid. This will let me get more out of this gun that was right for my needs. I appreciate the links for inexpensive accessories that will maximize the performance and results from this tool.
Every body will get offended when I say "your"
mat garcia I you can say your but I think you have to spell it you’re. LOL thanks for watching
I bought a harbor freight paint gun to paint my truck dash with rustolum black paint. I've taken it to car shows and no one knew I used a cheaper spray gun and shot rustolum paint. I would use it for many thing's to paint never a car only because I don't know how or never have. Painted a hood for this elderly woman with white paint it came out better than I thought I would have done it.
A little practice and this gun will work well at many projects. Glad it worked well for you.
Thank you so much for getting me started. I'm sure I may have questions but you gave me enough to get started. Great video
Great video thank you! We need a video like this about how to pick the right compressor.
