I get really depressed when breath and firestarter are touted by fans as you’re right. MFTJG was not only their best work but it was so relevant at the time. I feel the same when people know faith no more for epic and nothing else.
People don't realise how pioneering The Prodigy were/are. This was 1994 (I believe) it came out and annihilated dancefloors. 3 years later they released Fat of the Land and changed the landscape of dance music forever. The guys are absolutely timeless. Production quality though the roof. You'd have no idea this is a 30 year old track
Fezleysnipes, deffo 92. It was on the last tape I ever bought " underground rave" or rave underground......... it was my go to track on the tape 🙌🏻 I was a metalhead at the time, and that bassline was epic. A lot of their music was picked up by the punk and metal folk as an alternative to the likes of Bon jovi etc, it was a good time to be alive 👌🏻
Went to school in Braintree ( England, Essex ) with Liam, he was in my art class and he Dj’d sometimes for our Breakdance crew. He was a shy kid, a good kid and always had talent even back then as a teen. He sat in his room making demo tapes and sending them to publishers till he got his break with Charly in ‘92. Not a lot of people know that the Charly sample with the cat meow was taken from a health and safety video we had to watch at school. It was animated cartoon with a young boy and a ginger cat called Charlie…Charlie would get into accidents and you’d see him after, all bandaged up and then he’d do the “Meow” that you hear in the Prodigy track and then the kid would translate with “Charlie says don’t do ( insert dangerous stuff ) “.
"Not a lot of people know that the Charly sample with the cat meow was taken from a health and safety video we had to watch at school" - everyone in Britain who grew up in the 80's knows this.
Old punk rocker here. Saw them many times at festivals in the UK. They still make me feel like dancing through walls even though I'm close to 60 years of age. When my grown up children see me go mental to this music, they gather their young uns and move all breakables out of harms way.
As a Brit who grew up through this era I feel I need to say, WE didn't think we were gonna survive the 90's, and had no intention to. We're still here though, mostly
That guy "The original Tik Tok dancer" is the Legend that is Keith Flint. He used to be a dancer for the band during the rave era before starting lead vocals on firestarter....R.I.P 🙏 👿
As a young teen in the UK when this song came out I didn't realise how blessed I was to grow up in this era. In hindsight it was an amazing time for music of all genres.
I was a metal head all my life till I heard this tune when I was 16. Still love metal, but spent the next 10 years clubbing. The Prodigy fucking rocks.
That is a story well said, mate.👍 The Prodigy made a massive crossover into the Metal/Rock world in particular , when Firestarter and Breathe erupted. The Rock Magazines really took attention and notice and begun to write about them, whist they begun to ignite the Festival Circuit across Europe, alongside Rock/Metal bands. Their more harder edged tunes really cooked and kicked with the Industrial-tinged Metal at the time, from say, Fear Factory, NIN, etc. 👍
I think it's actually quite difficult to explain what a Prodigy gig is like, it's just an assault on the senses and literally everyone goes absolutely mental, you wake up the next morning feeling like you did a few rounds in the boxing ring, sore all over, it's just incredible, I was one of the Indie rock kids in the late 80's and early 90's trying to ignore the gaining popularity of the dance music craze, right from when acid house kicked off, but you couldn't ignore the Prodigy and they got us all hooked, next thing I was going to raves, end of story, the 90's were epic.
This track was my first ever interraction with rave music back in the day...and it awoke something in me. Some 30 years later, ive been a dj at raves for almost 20 of them and also started and organized one of my countries biggest underground clubs which i ran for over a decade ❤ Mostly retired now, only taking some smaller techno gigs here and there when i feel the urge. But man...what a life this damn track netted me...a wild ride for sure!🎶 ❤🎶 Happy to see you guys getting to enjoy some golden classics!
Keith flint was a nice guy and seen as the face of prodigy but Liam Howlett was the genius behind them and Keith was originally just a dancer Everyone bigs up Keith without realising
Saw them live twice and they were the two loudest things I've ever heard. Thinking back to when I saw them the first time, it's hard to know which bits really happened now, but it was amazing.
This was my introduction to Prodigy, at 13yrs old, back of my dads car and it played on the radio... Absolutely changed my music taste forever. To be honest, you can't go wrong with The Prodigy Experience, Music for the Jilted Generation or Fat of the Land. 3 banging albums that id argue has zero filler, 99% bangers.
There a video you should check out called "Firestarter: How The Prodigy Won Over Metalheads" it explains a bit of the bands background and also explains just how big and influential they were on the music scene
I'm from '82 and when we had our first school dances at the age of 12, this is what would be on, and it's left a lasting impression and love for the prodigy. Absolutely epic stuff on those early albums.
I saw The Prodigy live nine times between 95 and 2010. I was 30 when I first saw them and I bounced about like a maniac. If I could bring back one dead musician it would be Keith Flint. It was a hell of a time to be to be Going to gigs and festivals here in the UK. Now Im nearly 60 and still love their stuff.
This is my all time favourite tune by The Prodigy. The full album version is even better and when I listen to it I just want it to go on forever. The Prodigy were a big part of my 90's. Music For The Jilted Generation and The Fat Of The Land are two of the very best albums from the decade. To me the 90's was THE decade of dance music and The Prodigy were a huge part of it. Absolute legends. R.I.P. Keith Flint, I was absolutely gutted of his passing but so glad I got to see him live on stage where he belonged & one of the very best I've ever seen. To say he could get a crowd fired up is an understatement.
When I play this on my synth, it's such a smooth transition to the theme from The Gremlins, and it always makes people smile when they hear how I slipped that in.
Best concert I’ve ever been to: The Prodigy at Glasgow Barrowlands in 1996. Stacks of fishtanks with bubbling water in front of Keith in a silver foil jumpsuit, bright lights on him turned the bubbling water into fire for firestarter
The venue for this video was a club in east Berlin called Tresore used to be absolutely mental used to frequent it every weekend whilst serving with the British army in the early 90s
The Prodigy Live Milton Keynes Bowl 24.07.2010 is on youtube i went to this and lived walking distance from it the whole day was propa vibes but prodigy was just next level , i have also seen eminem and cypress hill at the bowl pure madness
We were a warm up for prodigy in Barcelona, just before covid, can not believe being there would be the last time I’d see them altogether, still heart breaking 💔
Liam Howlett is a genius, he pioneered EDM in the early 90,so many orher acts followed his lead, but what made Prodigy so special was their live shows. That shit got crazy some of the best gigs ever.
@mblack6945 true Orbital were at it to but to evolve a scene takes more than one pioneer. The Prodigy sound became so synonymous with the EDM scene, from Experience to Jilted and then Fat of the land, even the Dirtchamber gave something new. I don't think anyone else evolved the scene as much as Howlett.
I was lucky enough to see prodigy a few times with Keith flint in small venues back in the day and it was awesome, the power of the bass and sound blasted me into another dimension
i was a big heavy metal fan in the 90's but bands never came to northern ireland because of the troubles. So first concert I ever saw was Prodigy - Fat of the land tour in the Kings hall. It was a fantastic show.
I saw them live like, oof 30 years or so ago and they were lit. I remember Keith bouncing on stage at the start, off his head on E or coke and in a straight jacket. It's a night i'll always remember and R.I.P Keith Flint.
Yes do you do need a live version. Seen this band so many times live, I lost count. It was a whole scene which I don't think Americans or younger generations will understand.
I remember getting my first wage from a fish and chip shop when I was 14, trotting my happy arse straight to Andy’s Records (RIP), and getting this on cassette, rode the bus home that day with it playing on my Walkman. Great memories.
I was part of the rave scene late 80’s to late 90’s. Prodigy were THE reason we picked the raves went to !! Book of love 92, one of the best with Prodigy smashing your love 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
I went to see Prodigy live for the first time in 95 I was 14 at Manchester Apollo. I jumped up on the stage and did a crowd dive and my mates told me after that Maxim was grinning from ear to ear was pointing at me while I did it!
Music for the Jilted is my all time favourite album. I reckon I've listened to it over 1000 times, and it is still as fresh as the first time I heard it. It still stands up to modern dance music. Liam is a magician
If you ever get the chance to see them live, GO! I'd even say it's worth it to travel to the UK or EU and plan a holiday around their tour. THE best live act you'll see! I'll be back there this December for the 15th time in 20years 🙌 Take a look at "World's On Fire" tour, there's a live album recorded at Milton Keynes and also the official recording of the whole gig. It was amazing! 🐜
its a great tune...but its more of a memory thing...being in a club with about 400 other people, speakers the size of your chest right next to you pumping away, feeling the pressure changes from them affecting your lungs. Strobe lights and lots of alcohol or drugs in your system. The Prodigy just hit different
Prodigy tracks were always a test for the ICE cars at Lakeside cruise in the late 90's as it had that killer bassline, but also the drums, rhythm guitars and vocals that would show up any areas they had skimped on in their set ups.
The crowd go insane!! To this one, saw them last year and again got tickets for December this year uk, hopefully won’t get as damaged as last time, when I was swallowed up by the most pit😂 great reaction guys
This for me will always be my favourite Prodigy song, always goes hard. As for a live show, look up Prodigy MK live on RUclips, its from their shows in Milton Keynes about 10 years ago and probably the best gig ive ever been to
I was 13/14 when this came out and was mainly listening to Rock/Grunge/Alternative at that time and mostly did not like dance/electronic music due to all the cheap eurodance/rave crap on the radio but then this banger came out and opened my mind for other newer stuff and I'm thankful for it! Saw them live once on a festival and while I lost a show and hat during, it was one of the best live experiences I ever had.
Oxide & Neutrino sampled this track. Another old school classic from 2000 ft some members of the So Solid Crew. Pretty much just a UK garage version, a couple years before grime became a thing.
Outside of the music the best part of the 90's was no Mobile phones. Living in the moment not worried about Social media, because it didn't exist! What a time to be alive and a Geezer on the scene.
I saw The Prodigy for the first time at Glastonbury Festival in 1995. It blew my mind. I was 21 and had been raving for about 4 years. It meant so much to see them as there had been a government ban on raves the year before. The "Music For The Jilted Generation" album art work sums up that time period.
If you go back to 92 and flip to the B side of 'Charly' (12" Vinyl) by The Prodigy you will be listening to one of the best 'RAVE!' tunes ever that is still rated as one of the best tracks ever by the Old Skool and got many people into the U.K rave scene back in the day.
Always remember having The Prodigy Experience and Music for the jilted generation on cassette tape. Absolute masterpieces imo. Loved the artwork on the inside sleeve of 'jilted' 🖕😀
Just outstanding in the clubs. And a few years later, I moved onto Drum 'n' Bass nights at Fabric, a club in London with a 'Bodysonic' dancefloor. It meant the way it had been set up resonated with the lower frequencies from carefully placed speakers - and let me tell you - the beats definitely went through my body!! You literally vibrated while dancing! Was lucky enough to see The Chemical Brothers there in the 2009. Best night ever. Hope you get round to them on the channel too 🙂
So interesting seeing the reaction from you guys over the pond. No Good (start the dance) is now 30 years old. Just imagine how it was received over here back then. Bear in mind their first album Experience was released 2 years previously (check out the track ‘Jericho’ on it) I feel truly blessed to have witnessed the evolution of them. Still gutted about Keef RIP. Props to you guys for taking time and appreciating some 🇬🇧legends. 👊🏼
We;ve seen them 3 times so far. The best though was headlining the Leeds festival in 97 if I remember correctly. Just pure power and 80,000 people all bouncing along for over an hour. They had to stop at one point because people were getting crushed at the front. After aboout a 10 minute break they reopened the set with Breath. I just remember "everybody breathe with me".....then back to the absolute madness. Uk in the 90's was something else. No phones, just mad people down for the music.
Music For The Jilted Generation was one of those albums that shaped my musical tastes forever.
The best prodigy album going!! 3 kilos does not get the attention it deserves!!
Definitely a top 3 of all time album. Hard agree on 3 kilos.
Me too man, me too. Break & Enter was life changing for me aged 11!!
I get really depressed when breath and firestarter are touted by fans as you’re right. MFTJG was not only their best work but it was so relevant at the time. I feel the same when people know faith no more for epic and nothing else.
This and the Experience was my entire teenage world. 🙌😵💫
Honourable mention to the Chemical Brothers
People don't realise how pioneering The Prodigy were/are. Favourite band of all time 😈
I was 14 in 94 i went to see them at the ilford island . I see them perform this live . Good ol days. Bloody ell 30 years ago now .
For me, experience was the best album (especially on vinyl) and came out in ‘92. As you say , pioneers they brought the raves to the masses
Don’t forget the experience album.
Fezleysnipes, deffo 92. Tabor? 😉
@ wow…no, Alec Hunter in Stubbs lane. Nice that you know Tabor, we used to murder their Rugby team every year hehe
I bought a car off Liam in 94, Halstead in the house! lol
"Not a lot of people know that the Charly sample with the cat meow was taken from a health and safety video we had to watch at school" - everyone in Britain who grew up in the 80's knows this.
@ that’s true enough, but what about the rest of the world. They weren’t just successful in the UK.
RIP Keith Flint. Legend.
We were the jilted generation and this was our music.
Yes brother!!
Epic era
Fuck yeah.. great times... jilted 1 of my top albums of all time...thanks for the memories liam and keef❤

Abso-f*cking-lutely. I'm still amazed at being here.
Fuckin facts, way too many rezerections to give a fuck about survival
Ditto. Never felt so alive and immortal
Best times though. My memory is a bit dodgy in places but the memories I have are absolutely brilliant
It was a time where we all came together as a people instead of being separated as races
That guy "The original Tik Tok dancer" is the Legend that is Keith Flint. He used to be a dancer for the band during the rave era before starting lead vocals on firestarter....R.I.P 🙏 👿
He was f..kin awesome 💯🔥🔥💜✌️🇮🇪
Keith will be a Legend forever but the even more iconic Dancer is former member Leroy Thornhill.
I agree whole heartedly agree Keith was a legend but "The original Tik Tok dancer" has got to be Bez from the Happy Mondays
Keef!
RIP Keith - thanks for the memories 🙌🏻
How did we survive back in the day? Water, chewing gum, ciggies and DRUUUUGS! 😉😋🤭
It certainly kept me slim & fit lol .....could do with it all coming back just for health reasons obviously haha
I still cant eat blue Wrigleys gum without my stomach churning and flashbacks of a very messy, sweaty time😂
@@portiadavenport9866 ill second that 😀😃
Great days would not change it for anything 😃
💯
As a young teen in the UK when this song came out I didn't realise how blessed I was to grow up in this era. In hindsight it was an amazing time for music of all genres.
I remember being told raving and dance music were just a fad and would never be around as long as the beatles, wrong!
Even when I’m an 80 yr old arthritic woman, this song will always make me want to dance and get me hyped up
SL2- on a ragga tip 🔥🔥🔥 90s classic guys
Mateeee!!! Going to listen to this NOW!!!
WAD DAY WA DAY
Oh hell yeah! The SL2 does not miss!
Zookeepers Revenge - Ain't Nobody Who Knows... even better!
Wadda dai day
😊😊
I was a metal head all my life till I heard this tune when I was 16. Still love metal, but spent the next 10 years clubbing. The Prodigy fucking rocks.

This came out when i was 13.
I danced for 8 hrs str8 to this in front of a strobe light on ecstasy
I think it's actually quite difficult to explain what a Prodigy gig is like, it's just an assault on the senses and literally everyone goes absolutely mental, you wake up the next morning feeling like you did a few rounds in the boxing ring, sore all over, it's just incredible, I was one of the Indie rock kids in the late 80's and early 90's trying to ignore the gaining popularity of the dance music craze, right from when acid house kicked off, but you couldn't ignore the Prodigy and they got us all hooked, next thing I was going to raves, end of story, the 90's were epic.
"I don't know how the UK survived the 90s listening to stuff like this"
Most of us haven't recovered yet...
We in the netherlands went so hard we had to go to the UK to recover
Still on a come down
Preach 😂, Smack my b1tch up still one of my fave tunes in the car.
@@Mutation80 😂 … and you’re Dutch! So much amazing dance haha
How have you been missing this! My favourite tune of all time! 30 years old and still killing it!
Guys please you love prodigy u have to listen to first album made in 1992 THE PRODIGY EXPERIANCE made me a lifetime raver!!😃
My favourite album personally . Still enjoyed the second one aswell . They went abit too alternative for me after that .
The earlier stuff is the best, feel privileged to have seen their live sets at raves, during their early days...
The Prodigy supported Oasis at Knebworth back in 1996. Incredible times in UK at the time - Oasis, Radiohead, Blur, Jamiroquai, The Prodigy 🙌🏻
This track was my first ever interraction with rave music back in the day...and it awoke something in me.
Some 30 years later, ive been a dj at raves for almost 20 of them and also started and organized one of my countries biggest underground clubs which i ran for over a decade ❤

Happy to see you guys getting to enjoy some golden classics!
Music for the Jilted Generation and Experience are 2 of the greatest dance albums ever made. Soundtrack of my youth. RIP Keith Flint. Legend.
Keith flint was a nice guy and seen as the face of prodigy but Liam Howlett was the genius behind them and Keith was originally just a dancer
Everyone bigs up Keith without realising
Watch The Prodigy live. It's just on another level.
Their performance of No Good at the Phoenix 1996 festival is probably the best live recording of this song.
If you know, you know, they were fucking awesome!!!!!!!!
Saw them live twice and they were the two loudest things I've ever heard. Thinking back to when I saw them the first time, it's hard to know which bits really happened now, but it was amazing.
all there gigs are amazing and although the same tracks they mix it up every time.
Poison by the Prodigy .. easy one of their most iconic early tracks.. absolute classic
The prodigy are the best dance act ever from the 90’s even till this day legends gave me the best nights of my life watching them live
Altern 8 also early 90

You really need to watch the Prodigy live at Milton Keynes bowl. It’s legendary
Definitely 💯 recommend this that day/night went off so hard!!! Warriors dance festival ❤
i was there - a truly incredible night, will never ever forget it
No phoenix is the best proshot prodigy gig on yputube
Is that the Warriors Dance gig? Pendulum supported? What a day that was.
too big... a dark club like Manchester Apollo in 96 Breathe tour was insane
There a video you should check out called "Firestarter: How The Prodigy Won Over Metalheads" it explains a bit of the bands background and also explains just how big and influential they were on the music scene
pretty sure they have done that one
I (a metalhead) loved prodigy even before firestarter. They were always on the edgy side of culture where metal lives or used to before it became woke
I'm from '82 and when we had our first school dances at the age of 12, this is what would be on, and it's left a lasting impression and love for the prodigy. Absolutely epic stuff on those early albums.
Ow and this wasn't the UK by the way, this was the Netherlands, we were there from the very beginning!
This was my go to Dance choon back when it was launched. I was 23 at the time...Happy times....R.I.P Keith you are sorely missed fella...
30 years ago saw them playing this live. What a band and what a night that was (I think!).
😀One of the best live bands ever!
It never ended you're still tripping dude wake up

yes is the answer to that question, yes there are
When I play this on my synth, it's such a smooth transition to the theme from The Gremlins, and it always makes people smile when they hear how I slipped that in.
Oi Oi!
The Essex Boys are back!
Much love from England 🏴
I was in high school in London when this came out..The Prodigy are LEGENDS here in the UK for what they have for music
✌🤜🏽
Best concert I’ve ever been to: The Prodigy at Glasgow Barrowlands in 1996. Stacks of fishtanks with bubbling water in front of Keith in a silver foil jumpsuit, bright lights on him turned the bubbling water into fire for firestarter
They played the Caird hall in Dundee around then too, I'm sure someone fell off the balcony into the crown below.
I've been lucky enough to see them live 5 times and the crowds were insane each time. Came out of their shows dripping with sweat.
The venue for this video was a club in east Berlin called Tresore used to be absolutely mental used to frequent it every weekend whilst serving with the British army in the early 90s

keith flint was a musical icon, he will never be forgotten, i still listen to his music often. RiP our english friend
My dad raved to them in the 90s I raved to them in the 00s, last seen them on the banks of Loch Ness. Rave In Peace brother.
Yes do you do need a live version. Seen this band so many times live, I lost count. It was a whole scene which I don't think Americans or younger generations will understand.
One of the standout tracks from one of thecstandout albums in that decade. A true classic. The Prodigy were simply untouchable in that era.
"They'll be someone coming through a wall" made me chuckle knowing that Liam was about to go through a wall later in the video😊
I remember getting my first wage from a fish and chip shop when I was 14, trotting my happy arse straight to Andy’s Records (RIP), and getting this on cassette, rode the bus home that day with it playing on my Walkman. Great memories.
Worlds On Fire Tour
Milton Keynes Bowl....was The Business
Watched the Prodigy live in 2010 ish, it was so loud the fillings in my teeth started to vibrate. 'Breathe' is well worth a listen.
In the UK 90's in the summer time we used to go to different events set up out in the English countryside when Prodigy came on it always went wild.
Saw them live in the early 90s and was still out dancing to this at the weekend 😊
I was part of the rave scene late 80’s to late 90’s. Prodigy were THE reason we picked the raves went to !! Book of love 92, one of the best with Prodigy smashing your love 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

I remember when I first heard this song. 30 years later, it still bangs
We survived the 90 by pickling all of our internal organs with high quality MDMA... Oh, and staying hydrated.
Yes we did lol
The prodigy are the best thing to ever happen to dance music, prove me wrong. Best live act I've ever seen, RIP Keith 🐜
If you ever get the chance to see them live, GO! I'd even say it's worth it to travel to the UK or EU and plan a holiday around their tour. THE best live act you'll see! I'll be back there this December for the 15th time in 20years 🙌

I've seen them a few times!
Through different era's!
Always mind blowing experiences!
❤❤❤❤
England & Essex forever!
This for me will always be my favourite Prodigy song, always goes hard.
As for a live show, look up Prodigy MK live on RUclips, its from their shows in Milton Keynes about 10 years ago and probably the best gig ive ever been to
I can't disagree with you here, it does hit hard, but I do too love a bit of Voodoo People
Watching the Prodigy live, pure energy got me pumped everytime!
Man, at the time this was such a sweet track. And catch this video on MTV before you head out dance around the kitchen. Life was good.
On occasion, I walk to work instead of driving. Putting the headphoes and prodigy on always gets me there quicker. They are absolutely awesome.
My first experience of the Prodigy was Experience! Out of Space, Fire, Everybody in the Place, to name a few. Brilliant!
The album Music for the Jilted Generation was released 30 years ago. I sweated a lot in raves and clubs when this was blasting .
Saw them live in a dance tent and it was mental in such a good way
My weekend raving, was my workout..Superfit 😂
Saw them in Chelmsford at V Festival absolutely brilliant. They told us to jump and the whole hill jumped!
Just one of so many bands that I'd love to see with the full original line up that I'll never cross off my list!
Being a teenager and going to raves dancing to this song was just SO GOOD back then
i still get together with the people i danced with 30 years ago to this...and we all still dance to it like we did 30 years ago
1994 we used to walk around the streets with a huge gheto blaster blasting this, happy times 30 years ago wow I'm old 😂
Prodigy were the ultimate definition of building soundscapes … 90s UK music at its finest.
Hope you get round to them on the channel too 🙂
The memories I have of this album coming out, the partying, still only being at school lol… it’s changed an entire generation.
So interesting seeing the reaction from you guys over the pond.
No Good (start the dance) is now 30 years old. Just imagine how it was received over here back then. Bear in mind their first album Experience was released 2 years previously (check out the track ‘Jericho’ on it)
I feel truly blessed to have witnessed the evolution of them. Still gutted about Keef RIP.
Props to you guys for taking time and appreciating some 🇬🇧legends. 👊🏼
Saw them live in Gothenburg in the early 90s... what a night!
Impossssible not to see or hear The PRODIGY ❤❤❤Fyi, IT was more like 4h of techno classic dance with them. We all were there for them and their music❤
Roll on Brixton academy Dec 19th , been watching them live since 96’ they are flawless !
Goosebumps.
Every time.
The prodigy ❤️
Saw them about 10 years ago.
Absolutely fucking brilliant and the loudest gig i have ever been too.
Try "Prodigy - Charly Says"... Proper tune from the early rave days
Wow 91-93! Before rave music really split
5:57 Oh yeah, raving so hard you can't see because of the sweat and hair gel in your eyes😂😂
