From Afro Caribbean clubs, in Bristol, Leeds and London to free parties on Welsh hill tops, the scene in the mid/late 90's, early 2000s was banging. Punk/Metal head at heart with a love for turntablists from the 80's 90s', dark D&B with a cracking MC, hits a spot no other 'dance' music can reach. Still hit the Welsh hill tops when a free D&B night/weekend is on, but nothing captures those early days, or maybe my hips and knees can not take it like they used to😂💜
Usually on radio sets, each Mc knows the rules, you get 8 bars or 16 depending on the beat. On the production side when we write DnB we usually write it with an Mc in mind or just mad skanker. The effortlessness is down to pure artistry & practice

I can't believe I'm seeing and hearing this! I'm American. Been following n dnb since 98.. There's a scene in LA.. But to see this on RUclips? So dope.. I'm a wu tang, boot camp clik, bone thugs guy... But most rap doesn't do shit for me nowadays, grime and dnb has filled that void for me.
Ah RIP Skibba 🙏 Im in my late 30s and thats my childhood right there. Spent my teens following Skibba and Eksman etc around the clubs here in the UK. Legends. Was cool to see you guys check this kinda stuff out. Thanks for that little blast of nostalgia. Big ups from Wales UK 🏴
I've been following dnb since 98. Roni Size changed the game for me.. Went down the rabbit hole... Early internet, discovering mixtapes.. Too young to rave... 2000 was my first event... Southern California has a healthy dnb scene. Skiba is a legend... His last show in LA went off.. I'm in a few of those vids lol... Us in the States? We've always been jealous of you guys. You have flyers showing dnb artists for like, 20 bucks.. Any one of those would be a headliner here lol... Still to this day haven't seen eksman live. Seen GQ, Tonn Piper, shabba.. Here in the States, Armanni Reign and Dino are top... Cool to see this reaction, as dnb mcs got shit in the early 00s. Other times as well.. Brings a whole other element to the sound. I'll always support dnb mcs!
@@matthoward598 Its cool to know that stuff even made it over to your ears in the states back then tbh. I very much started listening to stuff while I was too young for clubs also, started on stuff like Mickey Finn/Aphrodite/Shy FX with mcs like Fearless/DET etc also, then as soon as got a bit older and a fake ID we would be on the trains as much as we could heading to events such as the ones little penis man above mentioned on my behalf. It all went a bit cheese as time went on but still loved it all. Thankfully owe my career to the music also so forever in debt to these guys 🙏
You guys really need to come to London and hit a D&B night with these guys in their flow. This is just a Friday night BBC radio show. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still fire but when you’re in a room with a thousand other people, all drinking or imbibing chems and the sound system is built into the floor so you can feel it vibrating every cell in your body…. That shit really goes off! Get over here and hit it up! It’ll be an experience to remember.
The reason they all work so well together, is because every week they are all over the country performing at raves, and everyone in the scene knows each other. Drum and bass is all about peace and love. Even though mcs can be aggressive on the mic.😂
Nothing warms my heart more than seeing the reactions of people listening to the genius of Skibadee for the first time man. BTW the guy in the white tshirt that's pure grimey is Eksman.
No alcohol, you just won't last the day. Rave till the sun come up. Then the after party then you can drink to mellow out. Es and water, man used to be so fit, 6 pack and all of that. Lol. DnB for life🥰🥰❤️💛💚🚀
Just thought I’d say this but I’ve been a dnb fan since the 90s. During the raves in atl outkast would just show up and mc in the dnb room randomly. They supported dnb like crazy. It was before cellphones and in warehouses and man was it amazing to see. I live in the uk now and it’s nice to see dnb finally getting more respect back in the states.

Skibbas auto trader bars are some of the most recognised lyrics from the rave scene from the 90s he also follows it up with the new school auto trader bars

I remember Chuck D sitting down after an interview and listening to a Mixmag D&B mix on tape for the first time.... being quiet throughout and then said, "Where has this been all my life?!?" back in thev'90's 😀

@34:55 "I am a problem, imminent threat" Good seeing you guys loving the dnb Used to go raving a lot in 90s to Skibadee and the original junglists, changed up the levels, remember seeing him at Carnival around 94 or something and was nuts there too. Love it 👍 RIP Skibadee RIP Stevie Hyper D
The drum and bass raves back in the day like One Nation, Innovation etc were fire.. literally 6, 7 8 sometimes more MC'ing over DJ's like Mampi Swift, Andy C, DJ Hype etc.. the good old days!!! U guys should check those raves out on RUclips, absolute fire
Harry Shotta be carrying the D&B scene, but you should check out both his Drum and bass FITB, and his rap one. People often forget he branches out to other genres from time to time.
Guys have been spitting over jungle and Drum and bass for 30 years. It actually come out of hardcore back in the day. Back then there was no crime. The U.K. hip hop scene was low key. So mcs and lyricist jumped on the jungle scene, and over years Uk garage was born, which had mcs, then after that came crime, which produced mcs like dizzy rascal, and Kano. And many others. You could argue that jungle- drum and bass mcs were the major influences to that scene today.
I would say it’s not even an argument, like you said Ukg emerged out the dnb scene at the time. I would argue garage as we know it wouldn’t be what it is or atleast wouldn’t of came as early.
Dj zinc - Eksman Fearless 💯 this is about a 4 minute clip from an hour set and this bit alone is legendary it was shared around on Bluetooth at school 😂

19:16 you talk about how the beat switches and that they know when to drop. It's the same BPM so they know when the last 8 or 16 is due to finish. But also they'll know a lot of the beats as well tbf
No idea if you guys will read this but plz ignore everyone who tries to gate keep DnB from you. People will nitpick and try to bash you for being late to the party, not knowing the lingo and so on... don't get caught up into that! DnB is for everyone to enjoy. btw, one of the first songs that got me hooked with this genre was an US colab - this may be a surprise but Cypress Hill did a track with Roni Size in 2002 called "Child of the Wild West", there's even a video to the song. :)

Shelleys and introspective OG here... Great to see our brothers across the pond lend an ear to whats probably one of the most seminal sets in D&B... Much love 🤪
Any of the sets live like this when it’s all the guys going back to back are just so raw and I feel like there isn’t really anything else like it in the US EDIT: that sounded like a diss but it wasn’t, dnb and grime are the most raw UK music you can get so a lot of it just vibes and the fact that they have done this set possibly quite a lot of times with each other
Watching your reactions to the way dnb mcs ride the vibe is insane these are literally the best lyricists that England has to offer in my opinion the tunes being mixed in you kinda hear coming so shotta eks and skibs are real dons they got bars made for certain beats and theyre professional they set each other up for drops and know each others best attributes
jungle / drum and bass raves in the early years were groups of human beatbox's and mc's taking turns for hours only using vocals; unlike edm that was often produced in studios as a track then dj plays that with mc on top.
Bro snap back in 94/5. His Legacy is immense. If you had to pick a US Hip hop equivalent ie the longevity, influence, scene defining other than Ice Cube, Dre maybe Nas I struggle to find a fit, for just how influential One guy can be on a scene but he did it from Jungle, dnb, liquid, dub, garage, UK rap HIPHOP, dance hall really any UK edm with breaks, mcs whatever after 94 has felt or been shaped by people who grew up with, raved to, him. His place in UK Rave Culture is MADDDD
@@BB-ft8fjBro the Rain dance, Moondance, Helter Skelter, Fantazia, Dreamscape days of perfection. I can't see that vibe, feeling, movement ever being matched it was unparalleled. "Peace love and unity is the vibes that I'm bringing, the world will be a better place" How simple 2 sentences nail it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
D&B or even old school hardcore in the UK always had MCs live over the tracks. They are with each other every weekend putting their lyrics down on different DJs beats so they usually know each others best bits. If you ever check out Uprising from as far back as the 90s it was similar.
Have watched this so many times now and it gets me just as hype every time. You deffo need to do some more reacts to Azza and Grima just cause they're so good playing off each other
The skibba bars at 39:00 is him talking about classic boy racer cars in the 90’s. Hot hatches. Peugeot 205’s, vauxhall calibres, fiat punto’s, Etc etc. if you know you know.
just so you know. this is on BBC radio, so they sometimes stop/silent before they swear. i think they get a certain maxx amount of times they can say certain words. and some words they cannot say at all (which may be part of their flow).. you'll also hear reverse sounds covering words. They also work with each other alot. that's why they know bits of each others lyrics. they perform live most weekends obviously some work with others more. they also do repeat lines constantly, not to say they aren't skilled.
I dont think any genre can build hype like drum and bass, some D&B raves were so hype they were borderline dangerous.

@@lyricalnatty the best days of my life bro.. Sanctuary, Coronet, Slamming vinyl, Dreamscape, UTD Dance Jungle fever and heat.. man we were lucky! DnB 4 Life ❤️
Only one I aint been to is Coronet. Man you just put a big smile on my face.. Those were there good days. We dance until the morning then go to an after party. No alcohol, just water and ......🤐😜😎😂@@Onlyfoolsandcourses.
Still hit the Welsh hill tops when a free D&B night/weekend is on, but nothing captures those early days, or maybe my hips and knees can not take it like they used to😂💜
You man laughing about the American EDM bar is hilarious and humble af :D
Hope you keep the DNB rolling
38:50 this version of chopper is prob 25 years old now, skib was using lyrics (car bars, with some updated cars) he used to use when it came out
Usually on radio sets, each Mc knows the rules, you get 8 bars or 16 depending on the beat. On the production side when we write DnB we usually write it with an Mc in mind or just mad skanker. The effortlessness is down to pure artistry & practice
Reminds me of being 18 and absolutely off my face in a rave 😂 good times 👌
This set with Charlie sloth was to much 🔥🔥🔥 ! Drum n bass mc’s are some of the most underrated mc when it comes to world wide lyricism. These guys deserve their props !! . Rip Skibadee 🙏
Guys well done for the video and the appreciation of our music scene.
You ask a question of whether harry shotta knew if the beat was gonna drop.
Let me tell you he knew. These mc’s are masters of riding the beat.
I put these against any mc in the world and they would smash them.
This scene has been around for thirty years and I’ve had the privilege to be there from day one.
These are masters of their game trust me FAM.
RIP Skibba
I can't believe I'm seeing and hearing this! I'm American. Been following n dnb since 98.. There's a scene in LA.. But to see this on RUclips? So dope.. I'm a wu tang, boot camp clik, bone thugs guy... But most rap doesn't do shit for me nowadays, grime and dnb has filled that void for me.
Get on u tube type in Mr Coker or sasasas or drum n bass 🔊 sets u won't be disappointed 😎💯💯
Big ups from Wales UK 🏴
venture down from wales every week to attend one nations did ya? why do people have to waffle complete lies lol
@@joshparker6015lies? Is that really that hard to attend from Wales?
@@joshparker6015 is travelling an hour or so that hard for you to comprehend fella? Get a grip and a few brain cells if you can find them🤦🤏
@@matthoward598 Its cool to know that stuff even made it over to your ears in the states back then tbh.
I have yet to see anyone listen to shotta without a wheel up after how many years😂 ...love all the time .

I am absolutely loving watching you guys discover drum & bass! Your screwfaces are bang on point 😂
Good sound system, live drum
N bass cannot be beat…vibe is nuts. You feel it as much as hear it
Amazing reaction as always guys!!! So glad your getting in to the Drum & Bass scene, you won’t be disappointed trust me!!! 😎🇬🇧
Nothing warms my heart more than seeing the reactions of people listening to the genius of Skibadee for the first time man. BTW the guy in the white tshirt that's pure grimey is Eksman.
when SKIBA says "stamina krew" he means all us drug takers back then.( basically everyone ) Pills (extascy), speed and whatever lol
No alcohol, you just won't last the day. Rave till the sun come up. Then the after party then you can drink to mellow out. Es and water, man used to be so fit, 6 pack and all of that. Lol. DnB for life🥰🥰❤️💛💚🚀
The PyroRadio youtube channel, they do this style of video with DnB, Grime and old Skool Garage 👍
A Dnb live set is the highest level of energy you can ever get… I’m surprised the whole room hasn’t evaporated
It's so good seeing you enjoy our culture you guys need to come uk and soak it in for real.
Shotta has done 2 Fire in the Booths, 10+ years ago. One hip-hop and one drum n bass, both are literally fire. Definitely worth checking out 🔥
Just thought I’d say this but I’ve been a dnb fan since the 90s. During the raves in atl outkast would just show up and mc in the dnb room randomly. They supported dnb like crazy. It was before cellphones and in warehouses and man was it amazing to see. I live in the uk now and it’s nice to see dnb finally getting more respect back in the states.
😢 I could cry. My favourite things on their album is pure jungle!!! Makes perfect sense. Thanks for sharing that, never heard anything like it. Only crossover I knew was krs one n noisia
Fuck me bro tapes of those Outkast sets would sell for thousands ahaha I'd pay anything to hear that...thanks for the bit of history g 💯🤙
Redman did a few bits
You must remember Stevie Hyper D
I swear down I would love to hear all that it's a shame there's no recordings
Skibbas auto trader bars are some of the most recognised lyrics from the rave scene from the 90s he also follows it up with the new school auto trader bars
Check out chase n status set from boiler room 🔥 R.I.P skibadee
The way they're spittin, ad libbing, back to back is standard dnb mc, its an artform in itself, RIP skiba, the best to do it
So refreshing to see one artist respect another. There needs to be more of it,'
I’d love to see a reaction to a big rave like Westfest where all these MC’s are live. Definitely something to consider reaction to, don’t think I’ve seen any reaction to an actual rave. 👌🏼🔥
Well earned sub you guys. Watched a few and dig it. Listening to unknown stuff makes even more fun watching you. That’s all what matters. Keep it up! Greetings from Germany!
Welcome to the Buzz Fam ✌️🍻
I remember Chuck D sitting down after an interview and listening to a Mixmag D&B mix on tape for the first time.... being quiet throughout and then said, "Where has this been all my life?!?" back in thev'90's 😀
Yeh I remember that.
I remember meeting Skibadee in Ibiza while he was cruising around San Antonio on a hover board smoking a joint. Lived as a legend, died as a legend. RIP man, thank you for all the years of hype you gave us
I'm American... born and raised and I have been listining to Drum and Bass since the 90's. 🤷♂️
I was a raver so....
This paved the for uk mc's...from the 80,s to the 90,s to uk garage to grime then modern mc's central cee ect ect, dnb still goes hard today in the uk. Full on 8 PM till 4 am
Rip to skibbadee each and every time ashame he couldn't be alive to see this review 9 years later big up the Americans
love the appreciation you have of Skiba, Eksman and others...at the old one nation raves where there used to be like 6 mc's on stage at one time...amazing times!
I'm from the UK and can safely say that harry shotta was the first person to beat Eminems rap god for the most amount of lyrics in a song
@34:55
"I am a problem, imminent threat"
Good seeing you guys loving the dnb
Used to go raving a lot in 90s to Skibadee and the original junglists, changed up the levels, remember seeing him at Carnival around 94 or something and was nuts there too.
Seen Shotta at dnb raves and hip hop night think was Skitz and Rodney P night and he's definitely one of my favourites on the mic.
All these are top tier MCs. Love it 👍
RIP Skibadee
RIP Stevie Hyper D
The drum and bass raves back in the day like One Nation, Innovation etc were fire.. literally 6, 7 8 sometimes more MC'ing over DJ's like Mampi Swift, Andy C, DJ Hype etc.. the good old days!!! U guys should check those raves out on RUclips, absolute fire
mid 90s drum&bass as it crossed from jungle was the best, like 95 to early 98
Harry Shotta be carrying the D&B scene, but you should check out both his Drum and bass FITB, and his rap one. People often forget he branches out to other genres from time to time.
Xtravagance mixtape from Shotta was an absolute classic
You wanna see DnB MCs that know each others lyrics inside out... Check out the ragga twins
You guys are such great commentators! Keep this shit up, loving the drum and bass reactions!
Appreciate you fam!
Dj zinc - Eksman Fearless 💯
this is about a 4 minute clip from an hour set and this bit alone is legendary it was shared around on Bluetooth at school 😂
Seen Man like Skibadee, Eksman, Harry Shotta, and all them lot so many times back in the day. RIP to one Skibadee. The game won’t be the same without him. ☝🏼❤️🤜🏼
💯 but then I thought that when stevie hyper died 😢 gutted for them days, that’s keeping it progressive I guess
RIP Skibba gone too soon. Remember the Bagley days at Kings Cross
We try to read all the comments and we are not swayed by the comments. We made the channel to discover music and that's what we plan to do ✌️🍻
RIP Skiba, one of the greatest of all time. He's so badly missed.
Never be replaced legend
Ive seen these lot live as im from the UK and their sick live, especially Harry Shotta and Skibadee (R.I.P)
Rip to the don skiba. Spent many nights skanking to you and the crew. One of my proudest moments is me spitting on stage next to skiba with him skanking to my lyrics
Eksman , Shotta and Azza killed it 🔥🔥🔥
harry shotta and skibba are/were part of a group called SASAS, which includes all of these MCs - Harry shotta, skibba (rip), shabba D & Stormin MC (rip). and the other 2 members are DJs, DJ Phantasy and Macky gee who became a absolute legend in the dnb scene after releasing his track “tour” which is one of the most well known dnb tracks of all time
And since you loved baddadam and all of these other dnb vibes... You gotta check out Chase n Status album "JTN II Jungle" and their Cover/Remix of "Wherever I May Roam" which metallica included in their Blacklisted album!
Azza and grima always work together they are called TNA.
I’m from London and rave all the time and have been on the scene from day dot .
Skibba ans shotter was in another group call sasasas with shabba and stormin.
All these MCs have there own DJs or 2 DJs sometime .
Eksman is part of problem central .
Dreps is part of team drums that’s more a 1 man group .
These are all LONDON MCs rapping in London style , you should check out styles from different cities like Birmingham listen to SDC shadow daemon coalition baseman kills it .
Good to see Americans loving the D&B scene .
If you wanna see what it look like live let me know I got so many videos on my phone from raves I’ve been to .
One lyric that is so funny is fat girl fetish by eksman you need to hear this one fellas .
the MCs saved many lives... when ppl overdosed and overheated and called security and para medics ...para medics were on site.. legal days.. nuff ppl have dropped dead in front of me at raves.. is what it is..
Love these guys, moved to the UK in 06 and have actually met most of them if not all. Went ravin 24/7 for a while lol. Luton UK had DnB for dayz! lol
Best mix from way back is Dj Hype & MC Skibaadee
Excuse my ignorance, I have just discovered your channel. Big up the D&B love across the Atlantic from Bristol UK. Have you guys seen Car Barz videos with Bellyman? They're some dope D&B videos 😁✌️
Welcome to the Buzz Fam ✌️🍻
THEY ALL KNOW THE DROP ON THE TUNES AND TIMING….THEY KNOW MOST OF THESE MIXES AND THATS WHY THERE TIMINGS ARE PERFECT…..EXPERIENCED REAL G,S OF D N B 💯
Chopper Tune towards the end around 37mins. A classic.
I got really excited thinking someone has finally reacted to
Harry Shotta, Skibadee, and Mic Righteous
It’s sooo good. Same sorta set up. Check it out!!!
If u Americans are getting on jungle dnb listen to Brockie, Det, Skibba, Shabba millennium from Atomics Maidstone best set ever
R.I.P SKIBADEE..🏴❤️🏴❤️🏴
So glad you guys finally reacted to this...I asked for this over a year ago it's a banger 💯👍..REAL UKdrum and bass
Took a bit but climbed!!
Shelleys and introspective OG here... Great to see our brothers across the pond lend an ear to whats probably one of the most seminal sets in D&B... Much love 🤪
37.25 when chopper comes in. Its a uk basic to us and Americans dont no how legendary that tune is ❤
Yes Yes i recommended this recently - so glad you dig it !
Any of the sets live like this when it’s all the guys going back to back are just so raw and I feel like there isn’t really anything else like it in the US
EDIT: that sounded like a diss but it wasn’t, dnb and grime are the most raw UK music you can get so a lot of it just vibes and the fact that they have done this set possibly quite a lot of times with each other
Watching your reactions to the way dnb mcs ride the vibe is insane these are literally the best lyricists that England has to offer in my opinion the tunes being mixed in you kinda hear coming so shotta eks and skibs are real dons they got bars made for certain beats and theyre professional they set each other up for drops and know each others best attributes
So happy you've reacted to this. Probably the most underrated FITB.
Wasn't Jay-Z boys.... It was "the next J. C. but she won't believe in you..."
You guys should check out “people just do nothing!!!”
The 2005 to 2012 era of dnb was fucking mental. Just pure vibes
💯
Just to say DnB doesn't always have MC'ing over it. It can just be the music or with singing as well. But I f'in love an MC in the club
Glad you two are loving the DnB👍, It's the theme tune to my 38 years of living on this planet lol
jungle / drum and bass raves in the early years were groups of human beatbox's and mc's taking turns for hours only using vocals; unlike edm that was often produced in studios as a track then dj plays that with mc on top.
No it wasn't, it grew out of jungle and hardcore.
I remember skibba spitting this and i was 15 years old lol, im 45 now , miss those days, This is all we listened too lol
Boom 👊 I'm 44. Wish we could go back to the One Nation and World Dance days ❤
No right No wrong just a world based on good times with friends and a family. It's sad how many mates you make at raves how many marriages and kids are the memories that they'll have, no unifying belonging that was open to anyone who just wanted to dance with no worries no pressure just like MC Fats nailed it. "Peace love and unity is the vibes that I'm bringing, the world will be a better place" How simple 2 sentences nail it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
azza and grima are mates and tour the country together, hence they know each other bars
R.I.P SKIBS & STEVIE HYPER D. HYPER D DIED LATE 90'S. BOTH PROBABLY THE BEST MC'S OUT OF ALL MC'S IN DnB.
D&B or even old school hardcore in the UK always had MCs live over the tracks. They are with each other every weekend putting their lyrics down on different DJs beats so they usually know each others best bits.
If you ever check out Uprising from as far back as the 90s it was similar.
Don't expose them to Hardcore! 😂 its complete garbage.
@@malbennett9806some hardcore is great, largely from nostalgia. Just pointing out where this grew from.
Have watched this so many times now and it gets me just as hype every time. You deffo need to do some more reacts to Azza and Grima just cause they're so good playing off each other
azza bad man that it
We gotta see a “Do What Ya Like” reaction… when Shotta goes off, he goes all the way off
The skibba bars at 39:00 is him talking about classic boy racer cars in the 90’s.
