I just cleaned mine today. Finding this vid halfway through. Bro, how unnecessarily difficult was that twist connector for the sensor...for absolutely no reason 😂. Same about the wire loom, I wrapped my wires in electrical tape.
That connector was hard to remove, because it was caked with grime. I had to remove the switch from the gearbox first, and let it dangle on the wires. That gave me better access to the connector.
thanks a lot for making this video sir, mine which is 2.2 had the same prob as you having trouble engage to gear 3 and then the cog light pop up 🙇🏻♂️ appreciate your yt vid very much 🙆🏻♂️
lol... good roads in mexico... I have been AWOL! I had an... interesting... opossum situation in the engine bay of the e46 once... caught the mouse that was calling it home last night!
Interesting, I had a similar issue on my e46. The seller had sold me the car without disclosing the fact that the transmission had an issue until the car was on the trailer. I go under the car and find that the switch plug was only half way plugged in and had some corrosion ;)
Here's a link to the forum thread I mentioned in the video: www.e46fanatics.com/threads/diy-5hp19-transmission-selector-switch.931954/

@@michaelblacktree yep thats how i had to do it. good vid.
thanks!
E53 X5 M62 5HP24 has the exact same switch. However you need to remove the subframe stiffening plate and front driveshaft to get it out.

Thank you for your good video!
6:04 How did you replace a wire cowl(or room)? Are there any parts number?
it's a black plastic cover.
Nice one, got the same error myself so will have a go at this 👍
By the way, the saying is "the proof OF the pudding is in the eating"
😉
great video I have used to rehab this selector switch on my e85 2.5 2003. was there any clearance issue with the bolts you used to replace the rivets?
Thanks! There were no clearance issues.
Where in Florida are you located? Great video !
central Florida
@@michaelblacktree what would you charge. Same issue. I'm stuck in FL and can't work on cars where I'm located.
I appreciate the thought, but I'm not a mechanic for hire. I'm just a hobbyist who makes videos.
