I really thought that he was going to explain string theory
Marcos Ruiz same brochacho
Marcos Ruiz same lol
Same fking clickbait
I actually avoided this video for ages because that's what I thought I was going to get lol I suppose it wouldn't have been that bad anyway seeing as it's Mac
Marcos Ruiz me 2 unu
"If you ain't trying to be something, then you're just being yourself, and that's you."
Damn.
Word to the mother .
I said the same thing
fucking
deep
God bless it :)
this is probably the best Mac Demarco interview i've seen.
agreed
Maybe Nardwuar's
Watch the one with fender, he's playing the stars keep on calling my name in the back but he changed it up and it's craaaazy
The fender one is so good
@@Wetwli he played it w capo on 2nd fret and the tone is so gorgeous, it's so fkn nice
God I love his tone/playing.
john doe yeah me too.
it's really chill and unique.
I appreciate that he doesn't feel the need to show off and play a million notes a second... to me that gets so boring...
in my opinion, when someone can play as few notes as possible and still create something special that grabs your attention, without having to wank off as fast and technical as possible, is what makes a great guitar player and musician.
john doe wish he had a guide to get his sound!
Single-coil pickups with a healthy dollop of chorus and BOOM, you're Mac!
just gotta get that sweet vibrato sound
Matt Glista don't forget the most important piece... PITCH SHIFT!
Mac is the kinda guy where girls would say " ew what's wrong with him" but then end up having a crush on him
I think it would be, "ew what's wrong with him." til they realize he's a some what popular, charismatic musician.
@Raul Martinez lmao i feel u u pretty sob
Shiiit they end up guzzling his custard. 🤣
Me
Because then they find out he has money and fame
now he can add his name to the back of a pack of Ernies
justawful shit I'd buy em
stick to D'addario
Or maybe a pack of Viceroys.
For the love of benji, smoke meth instead. Way healthier.
A Tree you know D:
"if you change all the tunings and then you have no idea where to grab chords anymore its like you have to learn it from scratch again. Its easier to come up with something."
this might be one of the most enlightening things regarding guitar I have ever heard.
Straighten the tuning pegs all even and it accomplishes the same thing
is that really your first time hearing a guitarist say that?
it makes your ears work harder
Main reason I own more than two guitars. Keep one in some alternate tuning to get you out of a rut.
I don't even play in standard anymore. I just detune the guitar until something sounds awesome. Thank you sonic youth, my bloody valentine.
I was expecting Mac Demarco to explain physics
Yeah i thought that too for some reason.
Honestly, same
My guitar teacher played in a noise rock band with Mac in high school! He makes me proud to be a guitar rippin Edmonton kid. I'm following in his footsteps. :)
Nate David was it makeout videotape?
Who's your teacher
And now he has the cleanest guitar tone possible.
Yo I’m from Edmonton as well
"If I can't twist it with my fingers it's not happening, not anymore."
Mac the poet. very inspiring stuff
“If you ain’t trying to be something, then you’re just being yourself”
Why does he always talk like he's hosting a dinner party
He just always has some good words to spread
Raskeir :)
Kieran Broughton because he's bum sheik 😎
he has been trying to be heard for a long time
Very original
This is the most inspirational video I've seen. I think I'll go home and write a song. Why not?
justinnickovtime how'd that go? Lol
@@akillersandwich8360 well, we can assume it didnt great
Shoot for the moon! Cuz if you miss the cold vacuum of space will suck yer eyeballs clean from their sockets.
bro, that´s exactly what i thought
This dude looks just like Mac Demarco.
Phillip Poggi you're wrong
What are you talking about that looks nothing like him. That looks like bon Iver
haha thats hilarious bro its funny cuz it is him
@@gumquamare8461 r/whoosh
Who's Mac DeMarco?
I was at this fine vintage guitar shop in my hometown Oslo, amazed by the beauty of everything as I picked up this pack of strings with all these artists on the back. Reading Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards and all that was awesome, but seeing Mac Demarco too listed somewhere further down made me purchase the shit right away.
The guitarist who accidentally stumbled upon greatness by just "doing it". May your heart remain pure Mr. Demarco.
At 5:20 it sounds like mac is playing the mii channel song from the wii
"Ya know?"
"I don't know"
"Ya know?"
"I don't know"
"Ya know?"
"I don't know"
"Ya know?"
"I don't know"
Jacob Phillips It's whatever, man.
Omg I just realized wtf
He can write a song with that haha
@RizeKrispy just like Paul McCartney* you know
twin cabins
He seems like the most genuine and laid back guy around, like he'd just take you out finishing on a Sunday morning and knock back some beers talking about life.
This dude is the realest man in the industry to date
Mac is a master of 'right-hand feel' - the chuggieness of his rhythms, the syncopation, the finger-style... it's really cohesive and expressive. That combined with his unique chord voicings and tone choices makes him the most innovative guitarist alive to me right now.
Brady Hilgenberg him and Mark Speer are my all time top favorites
8:57
A CR-78 AND an LM1!
Mac's living the dream...
I May not have the same story as mac but i can tell his music and his guitar bring him peace
And that i can relate to him on that
i just realized at 3:08 he’s playing “because i’m a boy”, a song he did with makeout videotape, i love the one he did where he was sitting down with a girl playing it. check it out.
now everyone sounds like mac demarco
Gad damn i would kill for the b footage of macky just playin these pretty little ditties. Anyway you could upload that Ernie?
NinJaRed ERNIE please!
ERNIE! ERNIE! ERNIE! ERNIE!
The whole school starts chanting Ernie's name! LOL
thatd be so amazing!
NinJaRed no joke, I just found this comment randomly Jared. That’s never happened to me with anyone before hahaha.
Whaaaaa maccy boi is lit
crycry channel looks normal rm temp to me
Do you know what song he's playing in the beginning?
I can't believe I saw this man in person god he's so damn cool I appreciate him very much. Never lose touch with yourself mac
His approach and simplicity is something all musicians should strive for. Great message.
" I guess we're playing fourteens for the show, whatever" I died laughing lmao
What are tens and fourteens? Would you please explain? Thanks
@@kozhikkaalan guitar strings gauges, like lighter or thicker strings. Lighter strong can have a more light, mellow or chirpy sound, thicker strings have a heavier sound, more bassy, more thump, u know2
MrUtadaSing i know i’m replying a little late, but thank you for explaining this :)
MrUtadaSing String gauge doesn’t affect tone lol
@@Dampzombieslayer it does tho... put on .12s and compare it to 11s or 10s...
Those wavey guitar riffs make me picture an old southern guy sitting on his porch, feetup rocking the sandals, reminiscing his long life and watching the sun go down. The smell of smoke, pine timber and old leather floating in the air.
Hey idk if you guys check these comments but great fucking job on this video Ernie balls guys!!! Honest, tender, and joyful, all the hallmarks of Mac and his tunes.
I thought this was Mac backing up Neil DeGrasse Tyson on guitar while Tyson explains the string theory but this is still tight as hell.
this dude sounds like the entire earthbound soundtrack
Watching Mac talk and play in this kind of intimate setting just makes me so happy. Thanks mac for always inspiring me and keeping humble experiences in music
My favourite Mac interview i've seen. How can anyone not love this guy?
Its somehow good to know that he has a serious side to him aswell. Love Mac, what a chill dude.
at 5:12 i thought wii music was coming
Levitog Bass thats probobly what was going through his mind then he changed it up
His personality definitely shines through his music.
Unique.
Can't wait to see you in September Mac 😭
Ima see him too! Are you seeing him with the flaming lips? I'm seeing him in st. paul, mn @ Myth Live!!!!!
Radio City my dude?
How can you just not smile watching thus guy do his thing? I love this dude
wow mac great moves, keep it up, I'm proud of you
I can really come to appreciate Macs music. Him and Kevin Parker saved me and started a hobbie in my life of being a musician. The greatest thing about about certain famous people is that they realize they don’t it to make a living or to be known. It’s all about doing something that makes you question, or smile after it’s done.
Mac DeMarco needs a cartoon with a guitar as his friend on Adult Swim.
Valeria MAD Sons adult swim sucks
that would be gay
No
This comment made me see my guitar as a friend haha. That’s actually a decent idea
When I watched this interview the first time years ago I didn't play guitar yet. Now that I play some guitar, this interview is something that comes to mind a lot because the stuff he says is just so relevant and important and bang on the mark. It helps me on the personal journey as a hobbyist guitarist in many ways. Thanks for this awesome interview!
Yep. Biggest thing that resonated with me to keep in mind was what he said about how he “couldn’t write songs until he was as good as this person or that person”. I’ve been playing guitar consistently the past 2 years and I’ve been telling myself a lot that songwriting is out of my reach, but hearing someone like Mac who’s made albums and played gigs say that he had those doubts is so comforting and great to hear. I don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Most of my favorite songs are just power chord rockers or a couple short riffs. Just wanna do my best to write something I like and is unique enough to be proud of
i could listen to mac playing all day long so relaxing
"Do you, let it fly, keep it real.. and enjoy yourself" :')
I can sit and listen to mac for hours
Although a bass player, I think Mac just inspired me to fiddle around with my bass.
I’ve never been a huge fan of his music, but things like this make me respect him a ton.
I kind of buy into this anti-ad rhetoric and why artists shouldn't endorse products, but I feel like making an exception for musicians advertising music products, the advertising is so abstract, fresh, and unassuming at the same time. It's like they're giving you an option, and you can still say no if you want to, unlike other ads.
i watch this everytime just to feel motivated and inspired.
You nailed with Still beating
could not have loved this anymore, mac is the people's musician, demystifying everything.
mac is one of the best current muscians without a doubt
Just love his attitude, it's so nice to hear these things when stressing yourself about your own music
Such a humble man. Love everything he's done. ❤️
he’s so interesting i’d love to just talk to him for hours about music and literally anything
5:15 that bossanova inspiration, greettings from Brazil!!!
Mac needs to release a solo guitar album. The stuff he was playing in this vid is like some sort of alternative universe of those Joe Pass Virtuoso albums.
Total respect for this dude, i find his attitude and philosophy more inspiring than anything. Reminds me of my lazy self a little
god i need the actual background music, him riffing is so good >.
6 months later... please release the broll of him just playing.... please pls
gosh, this made me cry a bit. such a sincere, simple words. and that tunes… it makes me both nostalgic and future thinking at the same time. it's gonna be alright kind of feeling. no homo, but I just love him here.
Mac is such a chill dude.
I'm so glad he found his way in music, I'm so happy I found him ❤️
I don't think i've ever seen mac this HD
I come back to this every month, great life advice
Lovely
Not into his music as much as I’d like to be, but he’s one of my inspirations just for the things he be saying about music.
It’s so refreshing to here an artist just have a relaxed chat about his grassroots and inspirations.
3:08 Because I'm A Boy
John Boone I caught that too! Sick man.
Woahh wtf ..... people have been asking him to play that song live for years but he says he won’t because he has forgotten how to play it but he obviously hasn’t ....
Boi
been in a massive music block for a long time and this video was immensely comforting to watch
Gotta love Mac, he’s got a way of irradiating a sense of pure peace and mindfulness. I would react exactly the same, when walking into instruments stores and spotting those pop-colored squared packets. Thanks Ernie Ball!
"Let it fly. Keep it real. Enjoy yourself" - Mac DeMarco 2017 i love this man
"The initial blast is often the most pleasurable". That is extremely relatable. Whenever I feel my mind is in the works of writing a song I quickly pick up a video recorder. If I don't, then I lose the feeling I get from the song.
Crap this makes me want to return to using Ernie Ball Strings, but I always end up breaking those suckers.
same. I switched to d'addarios and it changed my life.
Stop restringing them so tight.
JesusFreak101 Really? what kind of Ernie's do you get? and what kind of music do you play bro?
I get the slinky Cobalt, and mine lasted me over 6 months.. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter, and I mostly play metal and also being the lead guitarist..
so I find that surprising and unfortunate that you're breaking your strings so quickly... lol unless you're like purposely playing and strumming as hard as you can :b lol
I have terribly sweaty hands and I'm pretty sure it just destroys them. A good set of strings on a brand new RG lasts about two weeks to month until a string finally gives out. I try to wash my hands before I play but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.
Patrick Krenz I have exactly the same thing. Been an issue for me for 12 years, I spent the last year trying every brand out there. The best for me I've found was Elixir Optiweb, I've had them on both my main guitar for 8 weeks and still feel like a week old.
love that he's playing 'Me and Jon Hanging On' in the beginning
8:29 "The initial blast is often the most pleasurable". Nice one mac.
3:09 that part is so beautiful
it’s from an old song of his! it’s called because i’m a boy by his old band makeout videotape
“If I can’t twist it with my fingers, it’s NAAHT happening.”
Love that.
Mac's guitar story is almost the same as mine ha. Family of musicians, everyone played guitar, hated it, but when i picked it up i could play iron man and smoke on the water on one string. I stole my brothers Kurt Cobain poster. I was amazed.
Jamiro Smajic you have musician genes
Max Rubio genes don't matter lol
Everyone can play those songs
yes genes matter, he has musician ones , my mom told me
Max Rubio well your moms lying to you, genes don't mean shit in music get over it.
My whole childhood it's been blues and rock. As far as what i would learn on guitar that's pretty much it. When i first heard Salad Days it changed how I look at guitar completely. It's opened me up to a whole new style that I cant get enough of. Mac Demarco is maybe my biggest inspiration.
Yes...this guy's explanation at the beginning of this video, really hits me...I relate...
That orange capo is HOT.
Selling them strings. Free strings for life!
heartbreaking to know that we will probably never get another album like Rocknroll nightclub,2 or salad days.
Blunted Love I wouldn't say that. This old dog was written because his dad was sick. And even still, he'll never stop performing those songs at concerts, and all those songs will still exist. Whatever new stuff Mac is doing, I just want to hear it.
7:29 he pretty much says hes done with that sound. lets just appreciate what he gives us.
I love that he flipped the bag over and saw all the legendary players, because that's exactly what I did and I saw Mac Demarcos name.
"Doing it is the cool thing"
Advice for life
the initial blast is often the most pleasurable
I love his style.. lol it's so fucking weird.. I really like how he shifts his tuning so it almost sounds wrong but ends up sounding unique and stands out.
He's also an underrated guitar player.. especially his picking/strumming.
I appreciate that he doesn't feel the need to show off and play a million notes a second... to me that shit gets so boring.
I’ve notice he holds the tremolo arm for an interesting term effect ya know
He's so entertaining. I went to his record label's show in Hamilton a month ago and his performance was the best and I had the most fun I've ever had at a concert. Highly recommend seeing him live!
Now get John dwyer!
Timmy G. YES please god
Timmy G. doesnt he use Cleartone strings?
versnellingspookie Aah yeah he does. Forgot that. He probably won't be on here then. 😥
E G G S
Rubber Sun Wrong band.
I love how he looked at the camera when he was talking about his old guitar like it might see this interview😂
8:45 No bueno. I love it.
7:08 His facial expressions. hes feeling the music which is makes him a true musician.
His jazz open chords give me such a calming and sighing sensation. Rose water is what I call these compositions
9:15 The Mac DeMarco inspirational talk
9:38 is my favorite moments. Hes lost in the music and... every guitarist has their lost in concentration moment. These few seconds are his DeMarco Guitarist face.
It is the eagle face I've come to love. The looking down.
This man is changing the world
3:07, Because I'm a boy, literally just creamed.
Daniel Goodman same af😭
came down here to comment . I'm so happy
same hereeee
I literally squealed
Daniel Goodman probably one of my fav songs of all times, so good
This is the realist interview I’ve seen in a long time.
It's literally my life dream to make music with Mac DeMarco
This is Mac DeMarco's most inspirational interview.
Imagine napoleon dynamite with a Mac Demarco soundtrack
The lighting guys and the colorist did a great job with this video.
