This is terrific! I wish Paul had his own instructional guitar videos for awesome "rhythm" playing. Always great to learn from the artists who actually wrote the riffs. Learned so much just from this video. \m/
The master at work...author of more classics than you'd think possible. Killer tone and a heartfelt love of rock'n'roll that's infectious and very, very real. Love this guy. He's the real thing. A dying breed. Watching him play is a joyous thing.
what i love about his playing is that its rock solid basic rock n roll with hard strikes and string articulation. A little page like sloppiness in a superb rock way. Just perfect.
Arthur Gonzales I agree. This the sound the albums were missing. I'm not sure why they couldn't be this brutal, as you put it. Imagine i Stole Your Love sounding like with this guitar sound on the Love Gun album!
LM Jones Not exactly. Compression and production of their actual tones alter the sound a lot more the adding extra instruments. The sound would remain the same. Listen to Firehouse here and then go back to the recordings. It's not close to this mean sounding
The greatest American rock n' roll band! KISS 'launched a 1,000 bands!' Most of the 80's, 90's and today's rock and metal would not exist because of KISS!. The live stages, rigging, audio, smoke machines, and pyro would not exist today as well - in rock, pop, metal, pro sports etc.
I've always looked at Paul as the born rock star of KISS. He seems to know the craft of song writing. If he lived next door to me, I bet he would be cool to loan me a cup of sugar without a bunch of attitude.
Paul's a serious musician and one of the best rhythm players out there besides Malcolm Young. Here he's down to earth and talking about his drive and passion, the stuff that made him the LEGEND he is. KISS is and will always be a huge part of my life.
Mr Stanley has always been true to his roots......great player.....definitely knows a cool guitar when he see one........could have been way longer......nice to see him just jamming away.

KISS was a huge part of my life from 74-77! back then they were SURREAL to me like a extreme mystery, we did not know what they looked like or much about them personally. That was a big part of their charm and charisma. plus they had/have the best show ever! These days with the internet there is no mystique anymore! :(

The internet was a major factor for both the sky high prices for concert tickets, & people just not buying albums anymore. If a band can't sell the albums because people can download an album for a few dollars, the price is offset in ticket prices to see the band in concert. And going into a studio to record an album isn't cheap. Average cost in a recording studio costs easily $350.00 an hour, if not more.
This is so cool I love just watching Paul play in this little home studio when he started I stole your love I just picture him coming down from the risers in 1977 then I look up and hear his little studio just jamming on a stool and it's so cool
Still a fan man...these guys had such a huge impact on me when I was young. Not a fanboy anymore, but even with all the crap, I still love the band. Especially the original.
Watching Paul play all the classic KISS tunes made me go to my room and grab my Flying V and I played every rhythm I could think of and I had a blast. Im neither a great lead player or rythm player. I can play covers all day and make them sound good with a band and all, but playing from the soul where you correct your bad habits on guitar and make every note audible............nothing like it. Thanks for the passion Paul.
One of the true, unsung, underrated maestros of rock and roll rhythm guitar. He's right up there with all the rhythm greats -- Malcolm Young, Rudolf Schenker, Derek St. Holmes, Izzy Stradlin, Robbin Crosby, and the list goes on and on. Having a tight grasp of rhythm and being able to write catchy riffs is so essential to being a great guitarist. I was surprised to hear he started out using flatwound strings. Those are primarily for jazz guitar and very difficult to bend.
"Derek St. Holmes, Izzy Stradlin, Robbin Crosby..." Paul Stanley is right up there with them?!?!! No, and nor are they right up there with him. Good lordt.
Great episode. Paul was one of the reasons I picked up guitar. Kiss was also the first concert I ever went to...in second grade! Although I didn't dress up like him, I went to grade school a few times with makeup along with some other friends. Good times!
I'm so glad that I found this channel. This is for me the best episode yet. I love that they went with Paul and chose to focus on Rhythm playing rather than leads. I would like to see more of these kinds of segments. Thumbs Up and Liked!
Paul is the reason I became a musician, the reason I learned to play guitar. I love Ace too but I became a dedicated rythm guitar player over 35 years ago because of Paul's style and charisma. I have other guitar heroes that have shaped my life but Paul and KISS are the catalysts for all who've come after. Real rock and roll does indeed last and will live inside me until I breathe my last breath.
Say what you will about Paul. To me he is one of my heroes that when I heard the chords of Black Diamond That was the drug that got me into playing guitar. I wanted to be like Paul. Songwriting, playing, singing, and showmanship. It was his quote “be yourself for your music” that helped me push harder to be my own voice. Thanks Paul
I’ve seen KISS live in the UK and I can honestly say I’m not a massive fan, BUT this interview is absolutely superb and PS is one hell of a Guitarist and comes across as a true Gentlemen.
Great Interview! Love listening to all of these Classics KISS riffs with no singing during the interview ! What an Awesome Sound that Les Paul is putting out !
Great to see him play these great riffs and talk musicians talk for once (guitar strings for instance). With all of the jumping around on stage he sometimes neglects his guitar playing while being on stage. Not here. Despite what all critics say, Paul Stanley knows how to play guitar. I also like his heavy guitar sound. Great stuff this video.
I could listen to Paul all day. Great insights. Paul has always been a gentleman and Gene has always been a tool. I picked up on that when I was 10 in 1976.
4 года назад+1
Ace has said that Paul runs KISS. Even Gene has to ask 'how high' when Paul tells him to jump.
I met Gene and regret it to this day. Paul I wouldnt mind meeting. A little late in the game, but I would like to meet Tommy Thayer as well. I have loved his work since being in Black and Blue.
I have been a Kiss fan for 40 plus years . Recently I have really become enamoured with Paul . The Kisstory Movie showed his class. The Last Concert I saw of them he was having fun and Gibson just did a similar story but about his collection . Paul is a guitar fan and very good guitar player and he is right about rhythm ( Malcolm Young ) . The man can play , sing , paint , write and god knows what else . The Soul Of Kiss .
I have watched this video several times now and every time I come away with more respect for Paul's guitar playing and I love hearing him talk about Rock and Roll - to us it's just music that helps us through our day, for him it's his life! Not just his life because he has made millions of dollars in KISS all these years, but more so it fully drives him and encapsulates him and THAT is what made him become a rock star, he HAD to play publicly, the music wouldn't give him another choice for him to be truly happy. Man, the tone he has that Les Paul at is awesome!! I knew and play every KISS song he played but holy sh** his tone blew me away. Many people do not know that about Paul either, he is a Les Paul guy. When we see him on stage he is always playing something like an Iceman (which I love) or some version of a Washburn customized guitar. But when he is home or in the recording studio and he is getting down to business and wants the best sound, he grabs one of his several Les Paul's. I don't care if you like KISS or not, after watching this and listening to what he said, you have to walk away having a little more respect for the guy, again not because of the band he is in but more so for his thoughts on the guitar and music and especially Rock and Roll!
I appreciate Paul's passion for the instrument. I've always been mesmerized by the guitar myself. As a kid growing up, everyone else was staring at Mick Jagger while I stood transfixed by what Keith Richards was doing. To me it seems that being able to sing is a gift you either were born with or not. Being able to play guitar comes only through blood, sweat and tears. What impresses you most? That's just me - maybe I'm wrong I don't know....
I always watch this when it comes up and everytime I watch it I get inspired by what Paul says and plays. Hes been a relevant famous rock star for close to half a century. He's full of wisdom and influence.
Got my 1st KISS album in 1975 and I was also listening them earlier today. Love Paul Stanley, and his philosophy on music. He comes off a very humble and sincere individual.
One of the best at his craft. To actually watch him play those iconic licks and listen to him talk about the instrument of his passion is just...wow factor x10. This is why he is a legend beyond any other. It's Paul frickin Stanley. He was and is the the complete package of a rock and roll front man/rhythm guitar player, unmatched!
I love Ernie Ball & I love Kiss - I play rhythm too and have seen so many times killer soloist but I couldn't really tell what song it was they were playing. Where as with rhythm it IS the song. Well said Mr. Stanley!
I've never been a KISS fan, and didn't even recognize any of the stuff he played, but I've got to give him his props. He's a better player than I thought, and he everything he had to say was right on the money. Like him, I remember buying single strings. I don't miss those days.
When I was young Ace was the hero. Now Paul is what I have always related to. He has always been the voice and rythm. Perfection.....Magnificent......Thank you Paul.
This is what real rock and roll sounds like! Paul Stanley’s unique rhythm guitar playing is what kicks you in the balls, and commands attention, with the perfect combination of tone, power chords, and style, that is just as relevant today, as the very day he composed it! In my own personal opinion, he’s quite possibly the best rhythm guitarist ever! And, yes he is capable of some very good lead work, too. There’s actually so much more to his craft, than what most guitar magazines write about him. Paul is one of the few people I know of, who’s quite successful in every thing he sets out to do. His artistic ability really speaks volumes! I love and admire his accomplishments! 🎸
Paul Stanley is a great rock rhythm player. Not only did he write some great stuff but he commanded the stage like no other. Yes I'm a Kiss fan but I'm also in my 50's now and I can look at things with a lot more 20/20 vision than I did when I was a kid and Kiss was everything. Kiss were inspirational and I'd say Paul was probably the biggest reason for that, certainly for me anyway
"People break the rules but you should know them before you try to break them" Thats wisdom
Miles Davis said the same thing. It's great advice.

This is terrific! I wish Paul had his own instructional guitar videos for awesome "rhythm" playing. Always great to learn from the artists who actually wrote the riffs. Learned so much just from this video. \m/
Matthew Phillips agree
That would be great...hopefully he releases it on VHS
Yeah, it'd be so awesome to learn his unique technique on how to properly fret a two note power chord.
Pipe down, princess.

Thank you for speaking the truth.
😂
Brad brad brad... although funny...2 strings only? Really? Come on man!
This series is amazing. No interruption just the artist, his axe and the story.
And the strings! Great stuff!!!!!!
That tone is simply outstanding. Thank you Paul for giving one of your long-time fans such a great guitar lesson.
His sound is brutal as fuck! WOW! I wish all KISS albums had this tone for their rhythm!
Arthur Gonzales I agree. This the sound the albums were missing. I'm not sure why they couldn't be this brutal, as you put it.
Imagine i Stole Your Love sounding like with this guitar sound on the Love Gun album!
They do. The rhythm sound alters when combined with bass, drums and lead guitar.
That was the first thing that I noticed in the video, the tone! Loved it! Wonder what he was using?
LM Jones Not exactly. Compression and production of their actual tones alter the sound a lot more the adding extra instruments. The sound would remain the same. Listen to Firehouse here and then go back to the recordings. It's not close to this mean sounding
Brian M It's so BIG and MEAN sounding. I'd like to know what he's plugged into as well.
Are you delirious
Metal wouldn’t exist if not for sabbath and deep purple
Yer and they'll last a '100,000 Years'
Eh KISS is not metal and did not inspire metal. Black Sabbath for that one.
Kiss, started it all.
KISS is and will always be a huge part of my life.
say what you will but this man and Kiss are rock and roll!!
KISS are shit. They always were, and always will be.
1970borntorun Thanks for sharing that. Bet you watched the video!
Jeff Ram Whether I watched it or not, that doesn't change the fact that KISS are the worst Rock band in history.
Why is the worst rock band most popular rock band... i dont get it pls explain and dont cry to much
Canticleer How much time do you have? LOL
"Real rock n roll lasts". Great ending
"Rock n roll is about the glory of the arm swing, the down push." - Paul Stanley
Trevor. I like that. And, it's true.
There is something ultra satisfying about a sharp, crisp, hard-hitting, rhythm guitar section
paul has a very unique way of playing.. it's hard to describe.. he's .. not in front of the beat..not in the rear..he's....there!! true rock and roll
Hot, sexy, babe!!!!!
And all of this while jumping 5 feet up on 10 inch heels haha
This guy is a reason why kids in 70's bought they guitars and started playing, one of the guys who formed the rock and roll
Canticleer indeed..i was 1 of them..still in grade school at the time..but Kiss was 1 of many that ifluenced me to play guitar
Im too one of them when i got obsessed with kiss music 1 and half year ago and i started to play too
One of the reasons
ṨpacedΛce Sa KISS is the reason I started playing guitar...
Right Fuckinh Who is ace the only two in that band are Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley😂
You can hear the conviction in his playing. Thats the power behind those songs.
Mr Stanley has always been true to his roots......great player.....definitely knows a cool guitar when he see one........could have been way longer......nice to see him just jamming away.
His rhythm playing is amazing and his riffs where the backbone of Kiss. Add in Frehley and you have rock history.
I just love watching interviews or anything like that with Paul I love how poetic he is with his words.
Paul Stanley is my idol and I started learning his songs on guitar and started living life to the fullest

Paul Stanley Is A Legend For A Reason.... The Man IS Rock-N-Roll!!
KISS was a huge part of my life from 74-77! back then they were SURREAL to me like a
extreme mystery, we did not know what they looked like or much about them personally.
Totally right, that mystery behind kiss is amazing and something that can’t be done today
This is so cool I love just watching Paul play in this little home studio when he started I stole your love I just picture him coming down from the risers in 1977 then I look up and hear his little studio just jamming on a stool and it's so cool
Paul's playing here is fantastic. Killer tone! Thanks for posting.
Still a fan man...these guys had such a huge impact on me when I was young. Not a fanboy anymore, but even with all the crap, I still love the band. Especially the original.
P Leasum Same here in from the beginning. Still jam, those 1st four albums .
Really enjoyed this. Paul has been neglected by many and under appreciated. For all you haters out there...learn something from this legend.
Paul really is a true rock star. A Dying Breed I'm afraid. his book was exceptionally good as well
Don't be deceived by Paul's lies, even if they sound really good.
So true !
Loved this music and Kiss since I was 9 yrs old. At 54 I still play and listen to the hottest band in the land!
Good lordt.
Thanks for sharing, even though nobody gives a shit.
Paul is an outstanding rhythm player, probably because he's so dedicated to it. And he's THE most underrated lead singer. Love his voice.
Loving Paul's insight and attitude! :) Rock On!!!
Thanks Paul
"I Stole Your Love" - such a great riff/progression
I just love watching Paul play with massive amount of attitude.
I’ve seen KISS live in the UK and I can honestly say I’m not a massive fan, BUT this interview is absolutely superb and PS is one hell of a Guitarist and comes across as a true Gentlemen.
Underated player IMO kiss was always a great rhythm band love love Paul's playing
Daniel Thomas He is an underrated player. Making some of the best/most iconic Rock N Roll
Paul is CRIMINALLY underrated as a guitarist, his solo on SURE KNOW SOMETHING is just amazing.
lol I seriously had to check to make sure this commented wasn't posted on April 1st...
Weeeehhh weeehhhh
Underrated underrated
Pipe down, princess.
Every time I hear the words "Rock Star" immediately l think ... Paul Stanley
For me are synonymous
awesome. he's the reason I play guitar. is he perfect? nah. but he's a great rhythm player and front man!
This was fantastic and I've always dug Paul Stanley as an underrated rhythm player.
Could we get a few hours of Paul jammin' on those Gibsons? So cool seeing the players who wrote the songs getting busy. Thx EB for a great vid!
I don't care if you like KISS or not, after watching this and listening to what he said, you have to walk away having a little more respect for the guy, again not because of the band he is in but more so for his thoughts on the guitar and music and especially Rock and Roll!
one of the great fronter's in a great rock group. playing rhythm and singing (Paul had great pipes) at the same time is not easy. a true rocker.
@Hayden Williams - Thankks for setting me straight Hayden - maybe I'll take some singing lessons!
that’s some tone he’s working with here
Samuel Islas somebody correct me....but isn’t that a ENGL amp he is playing through?
johnnyguitar65 yep I believe that's what he plays live as well
Killer tone indeed
Looks like he's playing through an Engl Classic 50 212
Sadly they are no longer in production :(
Dead on right!
Jesus fuckin christ man, that tone is so sweet and crunchy, its making me salivate!
Keep rocking Paul! 👍🏻
I always watch this when it comes up and everytime I watch it I get inspired by what Paul says and plays. Hes been a relevant famous rock star for close to half a century. He's full of wisdom and influence.
this tone is incredible. oh my Stanley.
He wrote that riff for Hotter Than Hell. Absolutely Amazing ❤️
In my opinion EVHs rhythm playing far exceeded his incredible lead chops
I grew quite bored with the entire EVH deal years ago. When they went Van Hagar the tone went bland and all tunes started sounding the same.
@Philip Santillan... and, in my opinion, criminally underrated !!!
Paul is extremely under rated. He has one of the best techniques when it comes to rhythm playing
I love when Paul talks about music and the craft of songwriting!!
I remember buying my first KISS tape as a kid and being blown away. Feels great that Paul Stanley can still inspire us all today!!
Paul Stanley and Malcim Young ..2 best rhythm guitarists in hard rock bands..cool.
Agreed two of the very best. RIP MY.
When I was young Ace was the hero. Now Paul is what I have always related to. He has always been the voice and rythm. Perfection.....Magnificent......Thank you Paul.
True legend... one of the greatest ever.
