Caught my PB on a $1 Walmart special spinner bait, that I hooked up with a frog bait trailer, and a trailer hook. Had him stuck strong with both hooks, was great. Actually caught my PB small mouth that same day.
Agree with your spinner bait vs swim jig comments, but I find spinner baits very effective tickling the top of grass. Maybe I need to use the chatterbait more in those areas, but hard to argue with my spinner bait success
Just gained confidence in Chatterbaits recently. I used it in some tough wind two days ago, and was impressed how much I was getting hit. We had some strong gusts, and folks were throwing senkos. I used a chatterbox, and they wouldn't quit hittng!
I’ve always found it kind of odd that people categorize these two baits together... The chatterbait, I’ve always thought of as being a bait on the extreme end of the jig spectrum. I’m near a waterfall, there’s a lot of wind, there’s no visibility in the water or maybe there’s a thunderstorm on the way. A bait that bridges the gap between a swim jig and a square bill. The spinnerbait is KIND of in its own league, kind of evolutionarily tied to the rooster tails of the world. There’s some surface chop or a bit of fog rolling in and I wanna imitate a small school of baitfish. I wanna get some flash or vibration happening. I don’t know...I just think people have this idea that since they’re both bladed power fishing baits, they must be in the same family. It opens up possibilities a bit if you can learn to look at things a BIT differently than other people.
MTB is really cool, price is great, I have got 12 and love them all, had a little problem one month and they helped out and fixed it really fast, great to work with!
Kawartha lakes have some really good Summer Bass action right now. COVID restrictions have been lifted and we’re getting a lot of fishermen looking for the big bite on the water and offshore. I have 4 rods setup on my dock with Choppo, Texas rig , crank bait no bill , and the jitterbug which still outperforms Choppo and Whopper Plopper. Tight lines!
Agreed, however I fish the Susquehanna River in PA that has minimal grass and the chatterbait is great there in either dirty water or after dark as well
Ive caught big bass with a big Colorado bladed spinner bait i like them the best u can roll them the slowest and they make the most vibration in the water..bit all work..thanks
I throw spinners and chatters all day in the st.lawrence and northern clear waters and catch all the time. Both baits just 🔥 will catch anything anywhere
I know you're supposed to throw a spinnerbait in the wind/clouds yada yada yada. But my best 2 days of fishing ever have come on clear, calm days on a spinnerbait. Granted the water had some stain.
I usually throw a spinnerbait at the summer/ fall transition, then all the way through fall . You can straight retrieve like he said but I've found that if you yo yo the bait it will resemble a dying shad , killer reaction bite ! By yo yo I mean let it sink to the bottom bring it up retrieve a little then let it fall , play with the speed and find what they want
I've been throwing a white spinner bait with a chartreuse twister tail trailer my whole life in ultra clear spring fed lake's in Wisconsin and it works all the time. I respect you're knowledge and stats about the viability but it's works for me
I hear fishing in the "winter" well up here in the north its hard to work a charter bait when you only have an 8 or 10" hole in the ice! Lol but I wouldn't have it any other way
Age of spinnerbaits, the first one I found was on a stump in Dale Hollow lake in 1957. Yes 1957. It was a terrible example . #6 brass blade, 5/8 oz. With a Plastic skirt, but someone was catching fish on it.
Caught my PB on a pepper custom spinner, but my chatter bait i got in last months box has caught fish consistently with and without the trailer. I also fish in the muddy ca delta so great for that chatter bait
Weird...why is it that so many guys throw the spinnerbait so differently than me? I agree that calm, cleaner conditions can be goofy times to throw a spinnerbait. But I’ve KILLED it in the past on calm water. I took a 4 pounder in dead calm water a few weeks back. I think the key is to know if they’re active. If they’re feeding like mental patients, you can throw a spinnerbait all day it seems. Cover a lot of water...take a lot of fish. By the way...you really only need two colors, don’t get it twisted. All white (maybe a red trailer hook) and black and blue. I mess around with my blade selection but almost never with my colors. Sometimes...SOMETIMES a bluegill pattern if I’m feeling saucy. I don’t understand this trend against spinnerbaits but I like it. The fewer guys out there throwin em, the better it is for me. To this day, they’ve taken more fish for me than any other bait. I will concede, however, that the biggest fish I’ve taken this year has been on a black and blue chatterbait. She was 5 pounds all day and I was flipping it into cover in about a foot of water, mid afternoon. Talk about your oddball catches...
During the spring and fall I don't think that one is better than the other. During the summer it's spinnerbaits all day long. I just think they're easier to slow roll. The War Eagle Wakeblade in particular. they produce a hell of a lot of thump. I don't like throwing chatterbaits around timber though. I've stuck too many in the wood and lost them.
Thank you bro. Just learning the chatter bait. Haven't gotten anything yet, but this helped a lot. I think I am retrieving to fast like a spinner bait. I appreciate you ☺️.
I just started fishinf again, took a longgggg break in between. I found a brand new original chatterbait in my old tackle box. It has the gold head and hook. They dont make them with the gold head and hook anymore, i googled it lol. Makes me not want to use it hahaha
Do you throw them on a Medium Heavy or a Heavy rod? I'm now in Florida for a few months and there's SOOOO much heavy vegetation here compared to northern Georgia.
Thanks I'm new and learned a lot from your video. The pond closest to me is clear water with grass bottom but not much shade. Thought I'd try the two you just talked about. May have to save for fall at the big dam lake the.
i fish spinner baits all year round with great results, is really about what you like they both just as good, some days you will catch some days you wont.
I throw spinnerbaits alot then if they aren't hitting that i throw another spinner bait if they aren't hitting that spinnerbait i throw another spinnerbait 😁 so in other words i have confidence in that lure
Ive caught more fish on walmart $1 spinnerbaits then everything else ive used combined. Pike nail em bass crush them ive caught a few slab crappies and even a greedy sunnfish or 2
Well i don't know what i was doing wrong today in Mississippi. The water was 60 and i got three bites on a red spinner bait WITH a trailer hook and they spit it each time. I just did not get enough bites to figure out what i was doing wrong. Any help?
A lot of people like the chatterbait because some feel the spinner baits will miss hook sets, as fish will hit the blade sometimes instead of the hook.
Jimmy Winter lol, I actually beem using spinners since 92-93....Ive never used a trailer until about 2010 or so..but even then, I still throw without trailer about 50% of the time.
Jimmy Winter Don't need a trailer hook if you use an actual trailer. They'll choke one with a swimbait trailer no problem. Got some learnin to do youngin 😂
Idk I’m new to chatter baits but my chatterbait doesn’t shimmy side to side like the video mine straight up spins circular like. Idk if someone could help me that’d be great
Dude I fish spinner baits nonstop here in south fl. I’ve never had a problem with short hits. They kill it every time, matter of fact the hardest strikes I’ve had were on spinner baits, no need for a trailer hook.........
I don't know, the ones you're going to hook on the trailer hook you probably never knew swiped at your spinnerbait, although I have fished a spinnerbait in Ultra clear water and done pretty good.🤷♂️
Man, I love my spinnerbaits, even though most of my water is crystal clear. I’m gonna spend more energy throwing chatterbaits in the grassy ponds now though. Thanks for the tip! Also: Hey MFer...I really like your style when you’re doing MTB videos.
Hey awesome videos man. I'm newer to fishing and been using spinner baits. I tied them on and one of my buddies told me just to tie a swivel to it because it's a lot easier. My spinner bait was always hanging of to the left where the blades are at my buddies was not. Should I tie them on all the time in your opinion?
you coud clean it but the rust will continue no matter what you do, i know some are expensive but some times an extra couple of dollars is worht it, some quality chatterbaits are actually not that expensive and on the long run they end up being cheaper because you don't have to buy as many.
Love watching you man. Your without doubt one of the best Bass fisherman. I’m sure you could do good in Bassmaster tournaments but do what you want. Thanks for the teaching
Damn mann, hiw many channels U have? Great Video 👍👍. I have finally found a video where u basically show how to rig up Still U don't mention size of Hooks? When your using a Trailer Hook, do u rig the trailer bait on JUST the Trailer Hook?

This is a great comment

Chatterbait ALL DAY!!!
lojo.fishing What is your favorite soft plastic overall?
Mine on a chatterbait is a Zoom Fat Albert grub with the tail pointing down. Black and blue or white/chartreuse chatterbaits are my favorite colors.
Lane K gambler big ez white lighting
That is a good one too.

Stop playing Ben, we know you only throw that 6th sense square bill 😉

whatever we send you! Just buy!

This is a really good presentation... well done!
Had that same chatterbait from mtb. Casted it out, snapped apart and left me with just the part you tie onto. Good times 🙂
Have had mine for over a year in salt and in fresh
Fix your shipping. Shouldn't take 15 days from processing to delivery!!!! Specially when I get the elite box.
elite box is 70% gimmick baits. Stick with the pro box my friend.
Haha try lucky tackle box they take a month

Ive caught big bass with a big Colorado bladed spinner bait i like them the best u can roll them the slowest and they make the most vibration in the water..bit all work..thanks
I’ve caught big bass on a chatter bait from dark grassy water to mild coverage and muddy water. Spinner bait more so clear water shallow to deep
I fish spinnerbaits in about 3 to 6 ft of water, lots of grass off the weed line. I only use yellow for pike and bass
I throw spinners and chatters all day in the st.lawrence and northern clear waters and catch all the time. Both baits just 🔥 will catch anything anywhere
Great video. Super easy to follow and understand. Thanks
I know you're supposed to throw a spinnerbait in the wind/clouds yada yada yada. But my best 2 days of fishing ever have come on clear, calm days on a spinnerbait. Granted the water had some stain.
Great breakdown. I need to fish both of them more. I always give up and switch to a confidence lure to fast.

Can confirm that... it is insane when you do that... 10 casts at the same spot and no bites, the 11 casts I yo-yo it they smashed my spinnerbait
I've been throwing a white spinner bait with a chartreuse twister tail trailer my whole life in ultra clear spring fed lake's in Wisconsin and it works all the time. I respect you're knowledge and stats about the viability but it's works for me

CNN FakeNews that’s why you use them when the ice is gone
I hope your not serious.Ice fishing blows.
move to florida lol
Spinner bait works fine in clear water. We fish sturgeon bay and we still catch smallies all day on spinnerbait.(given cloudy and good wind)
Jealous of you guys who get to fish grass. TVA kills it all on our lakes here in East Tennessee.

manifestgtr I agree with you there sir. I love throwing the spinner in calm waters and have caught plenty.
I've had good luck with them in calm water as well, but usually when I mae them run close enough to the surface to leave a small wake.
During the spring and fall I don't think that one is better than the other. During the summer it's spinnerbaits all day long. I just think they're easier to slow roll. chatterbait is amazing with walleye where i live, i usually use a spinnerbait when im bass fishing
Where I live chatterbait is real good for pike
Chatterbait is a bass killer also
Whats the point in the motor cover while your on the water?
Ty Milliken. I needed that info never cought anything with a spinner bait before.
Nexus The Red missing out
I have a white one but with a purple zoom worm what uou think ?
I remember catching walleyes on spinner baits!! I like using a red spinner

Can you use it for stripe bass?
Thanks ive always used a spinner bait never really tied on a chatter bait

Ive caught more fish on walmart $1 spinnerbaits then everything else ive used combined. Pike nail em bass crush them ive caught a few slab crappies and even a greedy sunnfish or 2
My chatter bait seems to come right to the top as I reel. Any suggestions?
What colors are the chatter and paddletail?
Chatterbaits work also very well for pikes on shallow water - grass .
Neko rig is what they now call it, but we were using it in 1985. I,m an old guy 82 years old.
Very educational! Thanks for sharing!!

But not using a trailer hook and adding an swimbait trailer makes a spinner bait surprisingly snag resistant especially around wood.
Add a 1/4 oz to you arsenal, you might be pleasantly surprised. What size trailer hook do you recommend? Good video
Chatter BAITTTTTT IS WEYYYY BETTER😂🤤🎣🎣🎣
Rosaura Garcia not always
ill catch more bass on the spinner than you will on a chatterbait in the same amount of time
@@johnmann3087 oh ya, I bet my dad is stronger than your dad!
@ricky woods your probably right seeing as my dad has been passed away for almost 15 years.
I have caught all my bass this season on chatter baits with trailer and only 5 bass with swim baits...
what is your pb what did you catch it on
Nice shirt, where can I get one?
Where can I get one of those Mercury engine covers? I've only seen the full motor cover that goes down to the prop.
Why would the wind have anything to do with the success?
Wind helps conceal the unrealisticness of the artificial lure. Fish react more to the flash and vibration without seeing that it's fake
Breaks up the outline of the bait csnt see it very well
That spinner bait color combo kills it for me...until the skirt broke off
Idk I’m new to chatter baits but my chatterbait doesn’t shimmy side to side like the video mine straight up spins circular like. Idk if someone could help me that’d be great

Gene Villarreal you get way better action with any bait if you tie them on. Laziness will cost you fish.
So is a chatter bait also known as a buzz bait, or are they two diffrent lures as well?
Buzz baits are topwater lures
What kind of setup for your camera?
I need to start throwing both :)
What kind of trailer hook is that?
Good job I love your videos I learned even more about fishing I have videos too but I am still quite young 😃
Great Video and tips.
Shoutout Millard Public Schools 😂😂😂
Thanks Ben! Very informative for me... Gets the focus back when getting a tad frustrated on what to use! Thanks Bro!!
I use a soft plastic trailer, no trailer hook ever. I catch a lot of fish......
But I caught a nice size pike on a spinner bait in ultra clear water
Great vid, love the black and blue chatter. Do you have a link to your channel?
you can get the black and blue chatterbaits at walmart

H&H spinners go dumb in ponds. Favorite bait in ponds

I prefer the strike king venom jig honestly over the zman chatterbait but thats just me
Introverts United your absolutely right bro, it's the salt in the plastic that makes the hook rust.
I rarely lose fish without a trailer hook. I find they get hung up more so I don't use them.
Thanks for the video- some darn giod tips
