It’s interesting how truly underrated Gary really is considering he was there at the birth of thrash. We all know how great Scott Ian, Hetfield and Hammett, Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson, Dave Mustain and all his guitarist are but there’s never much talk about Gary’s playing. He’s a friggin icon and has continually proved it album after album. Keep up the great work mate!
Gary’s the guy who got me to learn to play guitar because I saw him in theaters when Slayer came out with the Repentless Killogy concert video, and Gary was on fire that whole show and I just decided to pick up a guitar.
@@tromboneman4517i would say mustaine is way more versatile in the rythm than holt and that for me makes mustaine more intersting when you listen all the megadeth records. However you are right on the leads Gary is fucking amazing i wish exodus had more success.
@@hawk6111 just bought one. Can't wait to get a cab and get it sounding crushing as fuck like Gary had his. His tone of Shovel Headed and Exhibit A is just so fucking badass. It sounds like a machine more than a guitar
I had one, the chrome version with a single knob. It made a funny hiss when the note cut back. I like the ns-2 as it works both the loop and front end at once
I like the tone you get with the MXR EQ better than the Gary Holt pedal, the tone with the EQ sounds tighter, thicker sounding while playing chords, sounds brighter & sharper and i find when your playing individual notes they sound more precise and less all around noise while playing.
I actually used the Two Notes Torpedo to capture the recording but it’s set to sound the same as the Marshall cab. It’s a 1936v with celestion vintage speakers, different to vintage 30’s. More bass and top end
That tone is brutal, Nice work! I also use the EMGHZ pickups, they're shall we say, a warmer tone, still has a punch just not as balls out at the actives.
i hope that doesn’t end up becoming the pantera tribute band. i can’t imagine hearing king’s “soloing” where dime’s is supposed to be 🤣 could be an awesome original band though!
@@r0hko The day after they retired and he switched to Dean, King said "I have enough material for 5 albums"... This could be like Slayer with Phil singing, Holt's blazing solo's and Paul's deep huge drums! I wonder who's on bass? Anyway, there's clips of Phil singing with Slayer on his birthday and Phil playing Rainign Blood on guitar or something even so I know he's a fan!
Hi sir. I am a big fan of your artwork. I would like to see four horseman tone from both metallica and cannibal corpse. RUclips is a limited sorce and some of the few videos are very wrongly played and in very wrong tine without wah pedal. Sir please can you cover up this case for sure? Only you can play the four horseman from both bands very correctly. Thank you 🤘🎸
That's some crushing tone! Gotta say I freakin' love this new album! Some pretty badass songs all over it! I have a question about the effects order on this one. It's Guitar --> SD-1 --> ProTone /Six Band EQ --> NS-2 --> Amp, right? Thanks if you'll reply! Love your channel and your tone videos!
@@LambChopper678 thanks man! Tried it today with my Marshall DSL20 paired with the MX112 (loaded with the much maligned Celestion Seventy-80 speaker, works well for me) and the same stomps! Since I haven't got the ProTone Holt Boost I used the MXR six band along with the SD-1 and NS-2 following your settings. Unfortunately I don't have a Torpedo yet, but it was a pretty crushing Exodus tone alright! Thanks again for your videos! Showing the metal potential of the DSL20 is really great! It's an amazing amp, and I was encouraged to buy it along with the MXR EQs and the NS-2 thanks to those videos! Keep it up man, your content kicks ass!
Another great video! I have a question for you. If you had to choose between the marshall dsl, the mesa mark v 25 or the EVH 5150 iii, which one would you choose? Thanks
I love all 3 amps and I’m never parting with any of them but the Marshall is my favorite. I use it in nearly every tone capturing video, the reverb is great and the gain channel is perfect. DSL20H is the best amp I’ve ever had 🤘🏻❗️

Passive H2 for the recording. For all live performances Gary uses an 81 in the bridge. The H2 is clearer and has more refined dynamics though they’re less forgiving if you make a mistake.
Capturing a tone before an album's even out. Now *_THAT'S_* boss.
All depends on where you live. There are 3 song on yt music premium.

Yeah. Rhythm wise he’s better than Dave Mustaine. I’d like to see Mustaine attempt to play Holt’s riffs. Lead wise, he’s also way better still.

Dude you are a mad scientist. You need to be a metal record producer. You have a natural ear for good tone
Gary Holt,is a great thrash metal guitarist. Pleasures of the flesh was his best work. Great video, keep up all the great work my man.
Amazing and amazing holt with those crazy fucking riffs
Dude your right hand is so efficient. You're putting on a clinic.
I love how aggressive and raw this tone is.
That tone is soooo sick !
The art of tone chasing 🙌
It's really cool when ya do these videos. Looking forward to ya diving in deeper on this album. Thanks Lamb. Cheers from Texas!
My favorite RUclips guitarist! Makes my day when you upload! Thank you!
So stoked you made this video.
Always a great day when you 2 are hanging out in the music room 👍
Agreed, Gary Holt's tone is just about the best. Certainly the most violent and aggressive...
lambchopper choppin them riffs aggain. Damn, you're legend.
Really looking forward to the release as well. Sounds effing killer!
Holt is God... can't wait for the new album.
Great work nailing the Exodus tone as always.
Gary being influenced by his time in Slayer for using Marshall again? Really looking forward to the new album.
He’s been on record saying that he really loves the Jubilee amps, he’s also a big supporter of the DSLs.
Great job here. Sounds great. I still think Gary rocked the Peavey XXX the best. That amp was magic in his hands.
