    • @fredmachine
      @fredmachine 8 лет назад +13

      Nick Wallace Well, at least he's not limiting himself to pentatonics (so maybe King might actually learn something from this after all). But yeah, Holt is a good rythm guitarist and decent songwriter (for Thrash Metal. Just don't let him write the lyrics. His lyrics in Exodus gave me an aneurysm), but his lead playing isn't exactly the most inventive or interesting out there. And let's be honest, he abuses the wah pedal just as much as Kirk Hammett. Hey, it's cool, it's Thrash Metal after all. Not a genre generally known for being technically demanding...

    • @honigdachs.
      @honigdachs. 8 лет назад +29

      Nah, it's a G. Delay and panning don't pitch down the sound by a whole tone. He probably calls it an A out of habit, because he's playing the 5th open string, which in standard tuning is an A. His guitar is tuned down a whole tone, turning the A to a G.

    • @dkyelak
      @dkyelak 8 лет назад +1

    forget violence... forget assault... what gary holt does here is power thru a lesson in murdering your guitar straight up making it feel like it will never be played the same way again and ending its life \M/

    I've held that Bernie Rico Jr guitar at a show in Calgary. I was helping the tech fix the fog machine and Gary needed a different guitar, so yours truly got to walk out and hand it to him. 😺

    • @deadenddude
      @deadenddude 7 лет назад +18

      what he's doing is fairly simple and repetitive from a harmonic standpoint. It's playing it fast, clean, and making is sound bad ass that's the hard part.

    • @deadenddude
      @deadenddude 7 лет назад +5

      Holt, like most metal players uses a lot of repeating patterns. Once you recognize the patterns it takes a lot of the mystery out of it. Few metal players really stump me as I understand most of their tricks and tools. Now jazz players...that's another story. I listen to guys like Pat Martino, John Scofield, and Ted Greene and I get lost and feel like a rookie.

      I see what you're saying, but metal is like the blues in the sense that it isn't rocket science but it does speak to those people that enjoy it. He has his style and is well versed in the musical style he enjoys.
