- Here I show you how I Bleach, Lighten and tone my hair to touch up my blonde. I am a professional hairdresser and while this process works on my hair it might not work on yours so please consider your hair condition carefully before doing and chemical processing to your hair at home. Thanks for watching and happy bonding!!
Steps and what I used:
Step 1
lighten all over roots using,
1scoop Wella blonder bleach 10z of 20 vol (mixing a Ph bonder in is recomended)
Apply all over roots
Process for 15-20 mins
Shampoo, condition and let air dry
Step 2
Foil highlights with the same formula of bleach used previously on the roots. (This time making sure to include Redken PH bonder)
I do a mix of highlights and baby lights in the foils
Step 3
Apply root color to remainder of all orange hair at the roots, which didn’t get highlighted using,
Redkens cover fusion 8NN + 10 vol
Process both color and highlights for about 20-25 mins
Rinse all color and lightener from hair
Step 4
Smudge the root (optional)
Using the 8NN + 10 vol formula and apply to first inch to inch and a half of hair leaving out the face framing blonde pieces.
Let process 10 mins and rinse from hair.
Step 5
Apply step 2 of the Ph bonder and let sit for 10 mins then rinse from hair
Step 6
Mix toner
Using 1oz Redken’s shades eq 09T + 1oz crystal clear + 2oz processing solution
Apply all over hair to flash tone for 1-3 mins
Rinse, shampoo and condition with
Monat’s Renew Shampoo and Smoothing deep conditioner.

Juat FYI - after many comments, I feel that i should mention this video is Not sponsored by Redken. As many of you guys know, I went to a Redken affiliated cosmetology school and Redken is what I was trained in, so of course I have a strong passion towards the brand and products. :)
1eyeonzion hey! I would recommend bring pics of what you see as brassy and Of the color you like and want.
ellebangs THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MENTIONING THE REDKEN PH BONDER! I LOVED olaplex but adjusting was a pain!
ellebangs totally get it! I went to a Paul Mitchell sponsored school and you just get to know the brand inside out!
ellebangs i also went to a redken affiliate school and im obsessed
What state do yu0 work in ?
Girl I don’t know how you deal with so many **demanding** and rude comments... good grief y’all she’s doing this for free 🙄
Exactly. We should be grateful, not demanding or critical.
Kristin Dixon agree!! People are so rude, I don’t understand it! 💕
K Dix not tryna be rude, but “doing this for free” is not accurate. She may or may not have been paid for this video, but she’s making alot of money just by posting these videos..... soo yeah its not really for free.
@@GypsyWifeLife it's free content for you and I. Yea she makes money but she is giving us FREE amazing information!
hmb 26 Yes you’re right! But I was just trying to say don’t everything anybody on here with that amount of views and subscribers does anything for free. I agree people should stop being so rude though.
may i just say, i am a licensed hairstylist that is no longer in the salon, and i am so truly obsessed with your channel! you are so good! keep it up and thank you so much for sharing your love for hair ❤️ Bless you sweet girl!!
Same here
I watch you all the time.. i see so many rude comments and I just have to say i think you are completely a sweet person so helpful.. please do not let any negative comments change you...
Melissa Glomb I agree! She spends her time helping all of us.. I don’t understand rude people..
I agree, she knows there’s a good handful of us that can’t go to her directly and resort to DIY ... at least she’s telling us what needs to be done !!
Agreed. She seems so sweet. I bet shes an amazing friend and all. Keep up the amazing vids girlie xo
Could not agree more! Thank you Silvia.
AMEN TO THAT. I am proud of your perseverance. You give an EXCELLENT presentation- answer questions- throw in years worth of tips and anyone saying ONE THING NEGATIVE is totally out of line. Keep up the good work. I tell everyone about your page. 😘😘
MY GIRL. AFTER YEARS OF TRYING DIFFERENT TONERS THIS ONE WORKED. I LOVE YOU! IT'S THE BEST RESULT IVE EVER GOTTEN AND MY HAIR LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER! JUST LIKE YOURS!!! I LOVE YOU!
Jasmine Shoureh I
After watching this video 500 times, I finally did it! I am not a professional, but by no means a novice, either. I've been doing my own hair and other people's for years. Let me tell you, this is not only hard to do on your own hair, but extremely difficult. But possible. For example, you had better be proficient in weaving highlights quickly and be comfortable with doing paint betweens. Also, you will not have a good time rinsing that 8nn with the foils in your hair. Be prepared to have your head hanging heavily in the sink or tub for quite some time! Having said all that, thank you Sylvia for posting this video because it was worth trying because now I have my dream blonde hair. 💕
Jennifer Austin make a beginner video!
@Jennifer Austin with that many steps and products I can't imagine this process to be easy😂
Girl you need a demonstrational video of what you're saying, it's hard to follow with all those steps.
MysticalKitty666 I agree I actually only watched the video for that reason and she's just talks the whole video
Agree very confusing
Are you serious? Before you attempt your hair yourself maybe watch a few of her other videos to educate yourselves a little more 1st. She has given excellent step by step directions here, but keep in mind its meant for someone with a little more than average knowledge of color. If you follow along you'll be fine, its excellent. Only thing if anything that could be confusing is if she uses ph bondor in her 1st step as well, because in the written directions Silvia you state recommended but verbally its not mentioned unril Step 2. All in all excellent video, and EXTREMELY helpful chicky!! Nooooww if I could only grow a set of eyes in the back.of my head and maybe another set of hands my placement would be spot on.
I agree
Yes. I have seen these low lights put in on top of lightning foils and it's not that easy. That step definitely should have been shown
I love your channel. My daughter was talking about going to school to learn to do hair. I recommended your channel because you are so thorough. You explain things so wonderfully. Your hair is amazing. I know some people don't like the talking and the way you are so descriptive with everything but I really appreciate it. You are very professional! I hope that she will watch you. So many people go into it not realizing that there is more to hair coloring that just slapping color on your hair. Really, I am thankful that you have this channel. Keep up the great work! ( I wish I would have found you before I started my quest on coloring my hair. It has been 12 years since I did an "out of the box color" and I have ran into every problem you can imagine. I had to cut off my hair it got so bad. It'll grow back but that's not the point. I should have waited that extra week to let my hairdresser do it. I have been going to her since 2011. Only about 4 times. I wanted it to really remain chemical free as much as possible. Ugh! Now I've made every mistake in the book. Anyway, thank you again. Your channel is great!!
I know the point of this video is so people like me can try to do this myself at home rather than going to a salon... But it actually just makes me respect your profession so much more! There's no way I could do this without making some kind of mistake along the way, but I will feel much better about spending my money at a salon knowing what knowledge and skill actually goes into it! Although I am still trying to find a colourist that is as great at blonde as you are... If only you were based in London!
I have watched this several times because I am NOT a professional but so PISSED off when my Oklahoma stylist at top salon doubled my price and had sent me off with a student and my hair came out the ugliest mousey brown under the sun. I LOVE ELLE. YOU GUYS! She is HELPING US LEARN. She's not profiting. Why the hate. I HONESTLY believe I learned the REST OF THE STORY about blonde hair from her. ITS TIME CONSUMING!!!! I LOVE how she breaks it down into a 2 day thing. I just did day one and my hair I can tell after paying stylist GOD only knows what for about 30 years--it's going to come out amazing and it's time consuming but NOT HARD!!!! I love you Elle. I love how you cover topics like depression and anxiety. DO NOT even finish reading a jealous comment. Just skip it. You are doing such a service and you are so sweet. Thank you. (I know your name is not Elle but for ease of reply) Keep doing your THING GIRL!!!!!!
Watching this because all the salons are closed so I have to do it myself
Alyssa G same
same lol
me too
Same
Alyssa G same. And I have a really really dark brown. So it’s scary.
Please show us how you do the foils by yourself, especially at the back.
Coasty's Creations yup!
This video has inspired me to stay brunette, but I do like the Carmel balayage highlights. Thanks
Kimberly Tripp, lol 😆
Let me say I've seen alot of your vids, especially how to bleach your hair safely at home. Your vids are awesome! Filled with so many tips that you would never get from any hairdresser anywhere else! Thank you so much!!! I've had nothing but bad experiences when colouring my hair professionally so I've been colouring my hair at home for years. With your advice I purchased the Redken pH-Bonder 1+2+3 and used pH-Bonder 1 with the bleach on my hair for about 40-50 mins, rinsed then used pH-Bonder 2 a few days ago. What a difference! I seriously thought my hair would be super dry, and damaged but its not that bad. I also go swimming twice a week and that has really dried out my hair, so I was really worried. I've also used Olaplex 3 every week since October to restore my hair over 4 months. I highly recommend it!!! Since then I have bleached my hair about 4 times now since November 2017. I've been using black box chemist Dei-permanent colours for years now and wanted a change. I seriously didn't think I had to bleach my hair so many times. I received the wrong information from my local hairdresser and they sold me a 20vol developer and bleach powder instead of a 30vol - 40vol developer. So its taken a while to strip part of my hair so its blonde. At the moment the "blonde" varies from very brassy to white but I've ordered Wella Colour Charm Demi Permanent - 7A Medium Ash Blonde × 1 for my toner. Fingers crossed - I will see how we go! Thanks once again!
honestly your videos have changed my DIY-blonde life
This is so helpful for what I'm trying to do (safely) with my naturally dark hair. Thank you for this!
Message received: GO to your hair stylist and let them do it for you cuz its long and complexed processing and could go wrong in any given stages :) btw love you Silvia
Yuchao Su I honestly can't afford to see a professional
MissPronounced same here lol
MissPronounced I just went to a professional for a consultation today and she explained the steps and how much they charged for all of that and now I’m sad because there’s no way I can afford that lmao
She is a hairdresser doll.
If u cant afford to go to a professional then u cant afford to buy all the products shes talking about so might as well break out the piggy bank or just stay the color u are
Love this video!! I’ve watched several times, but I would love if you made a video showing you do the whole process. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!! 😊 I am a licensed cosmetologist and I have been following your hair journey (not in a creepy way lol) but I have done your diy balayage video and it is the best. you give the easiest/ best instruction. Thank you so much, you’re amazing and I will look forward to the next video❤️
Thanks for very informative and instructive videos! I have followed you a while now and managed in some steps to get a beautiful blonde after having had a slightly darker blonde, and horrible highlight outgrowth from a horror story visit to a hairdresser that I didn't know. Happy days now =) Thank you for making it possible for people to carefully experiment at home and achieve gorgeous results! Well done
👍 Great video! I feel like you always explain things very well. I am a licensed cosmetologist as well and enjoy hearing about your techniques!
Erica Marsh PLEASE HELP! My question is no where online?!?! What if my roots & some ends are SILVER naturally? Mixed with light to medium brown? Will bleach affect the silver? Will it blend? Will I look like a 3-toned freak with tones that don't match?
Wow! That's a LOT of steps. But the results speak for themselves. Looks totally worth it, if that's the look you're going for. I guess I don't understand lightening the roots and then darkening them again though. Of course it probably makes them easier to bleach the regrowth though. Hm. My hair is so dark I can't imagine successfully going icy blonde myself. I'm going so grey now it hardly matters. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to go grey gracefully and I thought this might help to view. It definitely gave me ideas. Thank you!
I really appreciate you sharing but without video it's kinda confusing. I've done hair for 2 decades but like to stay informed of current techniques & product choices. I enjoy watching your professional hair designer tips to learn new things. I think it would clarify & help us follow the process if you include small parts of video as you explain each step. Thank you for all you contribute in sharing your gifts with us! Your pro tips make a giant difference in the finished results! Wishing you abundant Blessings!
Did you read my mind? I just got blond me and olaplex 3 and have been searching through your vids for refreshers, and boop here we are! Thanks Silvia!
Can you do a video on at home toning, lightening for brunettes?
Jessica Marie YESSS PLEASE a video for BRONDES !
I love love love your hair, personality and how calm you sound. Youre so gorgeous....keep up the amazing vids. Xo
I lost you at 8N. I’m going to need you to come to the UK and work your magic on my hair! 😂
Thank you so much for caring about those of us who can’t make monthly salon trips a reality in their lives! I can barely get there once a year. I have lived with my dull natural hair color for a decade because I didn’t think I could ever maintain a blonde like I did when I was younger but I have some hope that it’s a possibility after finding your channel. I do find this video rather confusing which I’m sure is because I’m new to this. I would love to learn more though. I realize it’s quite involved and I wouldn’t do anything beyond a test strand until I was better informed, so I guess my question is what videos should I start with to help me make sense of this?
You mention the ph bonder during step 2, but then says you always use it. Does that mean you use it for the first step too? And then the whole second step was confusing too with the foils. I would love to educate myself more but your video list goes wayyy back and I couldn’t seem to find what I was looking for after spending quite some time at your channel.
I did take organic chem 1 and 2 in college so I have a good grasp of basic chemistry. I would love to learn the ins and outs of color but I need to understand the chemical process before concerning myself with application technique. Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)
On your video you say to do the Phbonder step 2 AFTER toning. But on your Typed out list it says to use it BEFORE toning. I've never used the phbonder, so I was wondering which one is correct. Before or after toning?
Thanks in advance
Ahhh! I'm so glad I found this video, I need a major root touch up. I have natural brown black hair, whatever it's called. Now I am ecstatic to follow these steps and do a touch up!
Thank you for the video! 1) Do you have a video on finding the right toner for your natural hair color and desired blond 2) do you have a video for coloring highlights/ touch ups when you have grow out? The blond …loses the “ silver look” with swimming and if not kept up. I use toning shampoo but to maintain that silver ish blond … can you tone over already colored part and match the new color? How much do we have to pay for these tips FYI?!
I followed these instructions and watched the video at least 40 times. Literally. My hair came out okay... Definitely nothing like the photo. Issues...
1.I have a ton of hair, lots. I noticed that the timing to bleach would most likely cause different hughes of blonde/orange. So I divided the bleaching into two days, top and bottom. Worked perfectly, but obviously took way longer.
2. Doing the highlight foils while coloring was the biggest problems I had. I guess I should have done this in two days as well. Because I have so much hair, the timing was too little and so the top of my head coloring came out AMAZING! However, the bottom is another story. The bottom of my hair is still this yellowish color, and now I know in a few weeks I will need to once again put more dye on my head....
Everything came out great, and.my hair feels really good. I used all the redken products.
I have never gone blonde before, but I have noticed a day later that the tone of my hair has already changed
This video is pure gold! Thanks Silvia 🙏
Thanks for all these informational vids! I’m new to the color-at-home thing. Due to Covid, here I am trying to learn all I can. My hair is naturally dark blonde - maybe level 7 in your swatch wheel. I’ve been getting professional foil highlights for over 25 years. My hairdressers have used bleach for my highlights. I don’t know anything about the “volume” or type of developer my hairdresser uses with the bleach, but I always come out with heavy buttery blonde highlights that I love. I get them done every 8 to 10 weeks, but just at the root. She makes sure never to re-bleach an already-bleached strand. A few weeks ago, my very dark blonde virgin roots were showing terribly. I knew it would be a long time before I could see my hairdresser, so I bought a Clairol semi-permanent box blonde that had good reviews and pics on line. I wanted to lighten my roots only. I thought it would lift the color a little and since it was not permanent I wouldn’t care if I hated it. The semi-perm color was supposed to be “light blonde”, was labeled as a #9, and was called “light blonde”. Well, I used it exactly according to directions and it actually DARKENED my roots AND gave them an auburn hue. Yuck! It made the line of demarcation between root and blonde lengths MORE noticeable. So after a few weeks, I decided to try a permanent “light blonde”. The online reviews for L’Oreal Preference Les Blondissimes LB02 (Extra Light Natural Blonde) were generally positive. Many ladies indicated that they used it on their roots only, but they were still able to have some nice blending within their lengths and roots. There were photos to prove it. I used the L’Oreal a few days ago. I followed the instructions perfectly and left it on my roots for 40-45 minutes as indicated. Then I washed with purple shampoo (One woman in the reviews claimed that she got great results b/c she used purple shampoo right after coloring). Well, my roots are now ORANGE! In your older video (2014) you said this kind of orange tint problem occurs when the color hasn’t lifted enough, so in order to fix the orange hair, the person most likely needs to have another coloring/lifting treatment. I’m thinking I have to use a product that is mostly bleach in order to get the lift I’m used to. So, some people online that had my same orange root problem say they like The Feria Extreme Platinum. One woman suggests using the Revlon Color Effects platinum. She says she got good results b/c Immediately after coloring, she used Sally Beauty Supply Blonde Brilliance toner in platinum as well as a #5 developer. I got confused b/c I though those bleaching kits have a “developer” in it. Is this just a separate developer to use only with the toner? I did notice that the woman does have nice buttery blonde hair now, but she does also have some purple wisps and undertones, which maybe she likes, but I would not. In your old 2014 video, you state that the orange result after dyeing is b/c of lack of lift and in order to get rid of the orange, we need to re-lighten. However, I do notice in THIS video that your orange-colored roots that happened after you did the first step look like what my roots look like now - although yours are a bit darker. Mine are yellow/orange/brass/copper. I’m sure you're too young to remember “Sun In” spray for hair “highlights”. It was the rage when I was in middle school. 😂 Well, it turned us blondes into orange/yellow-heads, and that’s what I look like! Lol! I wonder if I can just “fix my roots” by starting with YOUR step 3 here? I don’t want to put in separate foil highlights; it’s too complicated. All I really want is to lift my hair’s roots to the same light blonde as most of my lengths, but without them being yellow, orange, or copper. It would be okay if the roots are a bit darker than the lengths. I just didn’t want my roots my natural dishwater blonde, and I certainly don’t want them orange! Would you suggest just toning? Your older vid said just toning won’t lift, though. And I think I have to continue to lift. Again, my roots are NOW is where your roots WERE after step one in the vid. If you suggest I try to continue to lighten the roots, I‘ll have to do a box bleach at the roots. So is there one you’d recommend? I know, me asking that is like if you were to ask me to choose my favorite dental procedure! 😆 Or...is there a better product (available to the public) that takes the place of a hair lightening kit? And do ppl ALWAYS have to use a developer with toner? I’m seeing that everywhere, like there is no such thing as just using a toner. I’m not sure why they aren’t always sold together, then! How do I pick a “volume” for developer? Do I use a developer with the toner even though there’s a developer with the bleach/color? The woman online who used the Feria Platinum used a volume 5 developer with her separately-bought platinum toner. Lastly, I hear that BLUE shampoo might be better than purple for blonde hair that has more orange/copper tones. They say purple is best for neutralizing yellowish tone. What do you think? I’m so sorry for all the questions. I really am confused. I was hoping to get some clarification before I try things on my own again. Again, thanks so much for the videos. I’m learning a lot. I just need some further direction - and some confidence! 😬Stay safe and well, and keep the vids coming! 💗
Did you get it all figured out?
@@JessicaLPie I did it at home, but it took a couple tries to get it light enough. I did have a little damage afterwards, even though I didn’t bleach anything but the roots. I think some leaked down the hair shaft. Luckily, I wasn’t going anywhere due to COVID, so I just let it grow out again and dealt with looking at my dark roots. I waited many months before going back to my beloved hairdresser. Now she’s done it a couple times and it looks good. Thanks for asking!
Thanks for your video. You explained with details how to light to achieve blonde hair and it's a gorgeous job. I do want to do it but with a different end of a colour. I want to achieve warm Brown Rose Gold. My hair has grown greys roots, discoloured hair and dark brown all of the end of the hair. I do need to remove all the colours to do a change. Can you show me what part I must do differently and recommend to me what products to use. Thank you in advance.
Do u know how many wigs I have bought that are beautiful & look just like your hair (& I mean that as a HUGE COMPLIMENT) I don't think I could ever achieve⁰ that result myself but maybe someday I'll try ...
But you definitely got the look l love . EXCELLENT
I have a color question if you don't mind? I'm naturally a level 8 & have bleached level 12/"613" hair - roots touched up w/ 20-vol bleach every 2 months at the salon. Since early this year, I made the switch to high-lift with 40-vol developer. Now I'm ready to take this on at home.
Of course switching to high-lift for the past 10 months means that the very top of my hair is a little darker than the platinum length. I actually like it!
I've done patch tests with Ion, Wella, & Clairol high-lift - mimicking what my colorist did using 40 vol developer for 45 minutes. Results were okay with all 3, but not quite good enough to move forward & do my roots with them. Then I did a patch test with One n Only Argan in 11HLA. A total match!
But here's my question: since I'm liking my hair a little darker on top, would I get kind of a smudge root/shadow by default over time if I opted for a darker color instead?
I could do a patch test, but would love any advice if you have any. Maybe use the Level 9 One n Only with a 30-vol - or 20 vol - for 30 minutes? Or Level 8, maybe?
I know this is long & appreciate you even reading this far!!
Hey Silvia! I have asked my hair dresser to use high lift for my really naturally dark roots after I watched your video and it worked out great to lighten my roots in between highlights, however it has a slight orange hue to it, nothing dramatic but still noticeable. Is there anything you would recommend for that?! Maybe a different high lift formula?! Or does color need to be applied after?!
Would have loved to see you place the foils yourself. Something I cannot do so I rebleach the entire outgrowth. I still use Olaplex. Also have been trying out Formula 18. Since you're in California, have you heard of it? I'm told it's been created by stylists out of CA. As far as Jen Vegas' comment about new info re: Olaplex, I have not been made aware of this by Salon Centric or any other stylist I know. Is there documentation regarding this somewhere?
Jennifer Jahns was thinking the same. I don’t know how to place the foil so I just stick to a few very thin babylights
Olaplex has their own channel here on YT, also check their website. They have definitely lowered the amount you add now to bleach.
Thank you for your videos. It has really helped keep my daughter blonde with out the heavy price tag.
This seems like a tutorial for someone with some hair coloring experience. This is too confusing for me. Im lost. Id love a very very beginner tutorial.
Right? That was exactly what I was thinking as well. She used the word "obviously" quite alot. I just kept thinking, "well it's not so obvious to me!". I have dyed my hair before, but its been years(like probably close to a decade), and im pretty sure i just followed instructions from a box dye. All of this stuff is so confusing for me. Anytime they say anything about toning hair, i picture a similar effect of toning your body. And i know thats wrong, but it just shows you how lost I really am. Lol. I don't know if I really want to dye my hair bad enough to stick it out through the amount of research I'd have to do, and confusion id have to endure. I already have a headache tbh. Is it worth it? I guess we'll see in a few months.
Nooooo! I️ needed this video last night. I️ just messed up my hair lmao
Thank you for your FORMULA, Sylvie!!!!! In Canada it was a bit of a challenge to find Redken....sadly! I'm now using the Redken EQ line in my shop! 😁😁😁😁❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Greate video! I have the same root-color as you, but I like that dark dimension, plus, I have extremely thick hair, so there is no way I would be able to finish the highlight-weave and adding the Cover fusion in that time frame . So I was sondering if i can skip the first step, or will i just end up with brassy highlights since i haven't pre-bleached the roots?
Hi Sylvia! you are AWESOME and your videos have helped me for years. I'm wondering - how do you smoke out your roots? Is there a technique or is it as simple as just brushing on the very top of your hair when it's parted the way you wear it?
What do you mean by 'apply step2 to the ph bonder' in your description in step5??? Also how much do we mix the ph bonder with the bleach and developer?
Your makeup looks amazing! Love those lashes on you!!!!
Love your video. What is crystal clear? Been waiting for this video for so long!!! Thank you. Ur amazing.
What is the pale light pink eye shadow / lipstick you wear in almost every video?! I need it!!! Thanks so muc
LONG TIME SUBSCRIBER, and blonde hair color scientist (with your educated guidance) I’ve managed to stay employed at jobs with my experiments and shenanigans TY! SOOOOO PLEASE answer me THIS, girl. I want to hi-lift again, but don’t love, my blonde hair in ash or gold, but beige-champagne is that hi-liftable?? If so which products? I have access to professional products, if nothing is avail in Sally’s.
I used to high lift with 40vol+neutral blonde that made a pale root than I go back in with shades eq RV but no matter how long I left it on the root it still had an orange rather than beige. Using the same shades 8rv over pale blonde bleached root color goes beige, and not orange, looks great! But hence BLEACH. wth? Thanks if you ever get to pleasure reading this one day! Ha! I doubt it. Thanks for all of your incredible lessons they are great! Sincerely one of your adoring fans!!
Do you have any videos that address those of us who chose red hair? I was a platinum blonde as a child which then darkened to strawberry blonde and when I started to go gray I have been coloring red since. It is a good color for me and looks very natural with my green eyes and extremely fair complexion. I have always colored at home and mix my own colors I usually go for a medium auburn color but mix up two colors, a lighter color than my end goal and a darker color than my end goal and I start by brushing the lighter color around my face and on top and then begin mixing the two colors (just dip the brush in one bowl and then next swipe the other bowl) and by the time I have reached the back of my head (horizontally mid ear to mid ear) I have used up all of the lighter and have only what’s left in the dark bowl, recognizing that there is some mixing that has already occurred. This technique has given me many years of color that I am quite happy with, and it is super easy to do at home with my complete lack of any training.
My issue is that I now have well over 50% gray hair and it is really resistant to taking color. I am afraid of increasing my developer since I don’t really understand what it does beyond, make the color stay in the hair. I know that it opens the hair to let the color get inside of it, and I know that the developer is what can cause a lot of damage to your hair if you go crazy with it.
I don’t understand toning at all. I want red hair, so I don’t want to remove the red from my hair...so I feel like I am missing something with what toning would do...or is they something only blondes need to do? I do not understand what is meant by “brassy” at all.
I am embarrassed to ask anyone these kinds of questions because it seems like everyone on the planet already knows this (and I will likely get a bunch of flames for asking these questions as being too dumb to even be allowed to have hair) but if you have a video or could make a video that helps to define some of these terms and that helps people with as basic a level of understanding as me, that would be amazing! Some of us want to understand, but are to embarrassed to be called stupid. And I would love to be able to afford to go to a pro to get my hair done, but I am still trying to make sure I keep the lights on and the car running so I can go to work. It is a goal someday to go get a beautiful cut and color someplace with people like you that really know what they are doing, but I am not quite there yet (maybe after my two college student kids are not needing me to help with the “family contribution” that their father refuses to help with but the government says we are required to)...
Anyway, some help in the basics, as well as understanding about other colors other than blonde (I look like a week dead corpse in blonde) and some help in understanding what to do with these hideously stubborn grays that used to help create highlights when I colored but now are just being obstinate and annoying. I really appreciate your videos and hope you see this plea.
Thank you.
WOW, you are wonderful! Thanks for the follow-up videos on baby lights and root touch up.
Hi! I absolutely love you videos
I used your 30% off code for the purple shampoo and it worked! Thank you so much! I’m trying to go platinum and I hope it helps!
Love it! Do you color your brows? Love that color I want the same color.thanks
Is leaving your toner on for such a short time, not a waste of product in the long run? Blonde hair is usually so porous, it holds toners fairly poorly. Maybe using the lightest hues possible and leaving them on a little longer might give your toner more longevity.
my hair is blonde already (grows), so is it safe to say that a lower developer like 10 or 20 should be fine since I don't need to lighten as much as black/brunette hair? and is that just with lightener powder, or does it hold true with color as well? I'm just a little nervous I dont' want my hair going white and falling off lol and a bit of good advice will be all I need.
I'm new to your videos (they're great by the way!) and I'm wondering if I should bleach my ash brown hair to create highlights and then add ash blonde color with 10 volume, or should I just apply a toner after bleaching? Thank you!
You are such a beautiful woman! I watch your videos. You are a treasure sharing your knowledge that you have put in alot of time refining. Stay beautiful!
Hi, I am little confused I understood in your video that you put step 2 of the bonding solution after doing toner and before shampoo. But in your description you put the step 5 to add the step 2 bonding solution then step 6 which was toner then shampoo and conditioner. Which ons is incorrect? Ty so much for the video!!
I think I followed this, but what is the toner she is talking about? Brand/color/etc. I didn't follow!
Your tutorial was really easy to follow so thankyou! I just dont think i could do it myself lol. Might need my mum to lend hand with foils and making sure i rinse out certain parts without affecting other. I just about manage to bleach, tone and maintain a pastel pink by myself (which im kinda proud of as loads of people ask me why my colour doesnt fade!😁)
Xxxx ♡ 😘
Hi Silvia! Thanks for this video. I was a bit confused when you started talking about foiling and steps 2/3 but luckily you wrote all instructions in the description!! Can’t wait to try this.
Unrelated questions: love your makeup. Would you share what you used for blush, eyeshadow and lipstick? Gorgeous!
the next day after u bleach ur roots, did you weave very fine babylights rite up to ur scalp?
In the before photo where your hair is brown with blonde highlights, how did you get your highlights to be that color? I have tried a tester strand and once I get my hair to pull a yellow, I don't know what color to deposit into it to get that pretty hue or what toner to use. Would I use a toner or demi-permanent color? I tried redken EQ toner 9N cafe au lait and it didn't really change the yellow. Sorry for the questions, wish you were in Colorado!
I like your hair the color it is now better than the much cooler toned it's like a champagne blonde... buttery it looks great!
Hi, Which Wella Blondor did you use? The regular "multi blonde" or the "Extra cool"? Also, what brand of developer do you use? I heard you say you use 20 Vol and you held up a salon care brand, but not sure if you use Salon Care 20 vol or a wella developer, thanks
Love the shadow root... for touching up, how many weeks do you wait until you have to re- highlight to bring the blonde up? Do you have a video? ❤❤
Do I have to bleach my natural grey before using a toner or can I just apply the toner?
To Silvia or anyone else willing to help!!!.....Hi Silvia! I adore you and have been watching your videos NON STOP trying to figure out how to achieve your color but in still a bit confused and before I purchase everything can you just clarify for me- after bleaching, when my hair gets to the orange step, the following day I can simply just use the 8nn toner on the orange? And that will get rid of the orange? Please let me know if there is elsewhere that you would like me to contact you! I would gladly pay you for your time to answer some of my questions but that's the main one I have!I have tried using the wella t18 in the past and it did not take away the orange color for me so I just wanted to double check that using the redken 8nn is what you recommend using to get rid of the orange 😌 Thanks so much!
I have the same question and was hoping for an answer on it somewhere myself. What is confusing to me is that step 2 shows more bleaching and it isn’t until step 3 that color seems to be introduced. It sounds like the color goes in between the foils. So I think she is bleaching again only the pieces that didn’t get lifted enough and is likely doing the weaving and foils as both babylights (I think that is just short amounts of bleach) and the more traditional highlights on the longer rooted areas in the back. Then I think she rinses between the foils (probably at a tall kitchen sink with a sprayer), and rinses the color first, then the highlights. I am going to go back and listen to that part again.
Love your lashes in this video!! Are they extensions? What’s the style/type of lashes?
Hi Sylvia - forgive me if you've answered this question below (I skimmed but didn't go through all comments)... But I'm confused... After you've put foils in, where and how are you applying the 8NN exactly?
Hey there Sylvia! Thanks once again for
the great highlight tips! I always look forward
to your videos!
~~~Nancy
What cheek color and lip cor and brand do you use!!!? Its so pretty
I’m not a hairdresser and I don’t have time do you wanna do all the steps so how do I go about telling my hairdresser how to do this in one step in one sitting. Thank you by the way you have great hair and your gorgeous I always watch you. Julie
Hey I just have a quick question. When bleaching roots on the scalp is it safe to use 30 volume developer? Since my roots are a dark brown, or would 20 volume be enough to lift the brown? Thanks in advance!
Elle, I am not a professional, but have watched many of your videos, subscribed :), (and given you a thumbs up!) How do I get ahold of the shades e q toners and
accompanying formulas that are not old, diluted, or else a "fake"?? ....without going to a salon?
Unless you’re buying from a professional beauty supply - you can never be sure. If you’re licensed it should be easy to get what you need.
Love this kind of video from you! you are so great and teaching us how!!!!! Thank you, Silvia! Thank you for a previous video you did on the toning combo you found at Sally's. Is there another kind of product like the PH bonder (or Olaplex) that you have found for non-pros?
ION has a bond therapy and Phbonder that are fantastic @inspiredbysinecera
Thank you!
could you explain what you mean by adjusting the olaplex in the bleach? and why you prefer the ph?
Thanks for sharing! I have always used Paul Mitchell for toning because I really like their blonding system but I will have to try out what you recommended for toning. I have heard nothing but good things about that brand since I became licensed 10 years ago, but I have yet to try it! My hair color is similar to yours and I am probably going to retouch my hair tonight. There is a part of me that wants brunette so bad, but I can't do it.
I don't understand half of the things you say because I'm no professional hairdresser. You might want to explain the products the way that everyone will understand.
Light Black Moth you might want to go to a professional.
It IS a video on how to do the process yourself at home, so Light Black Moth has a great point
@@daphnedevine this is for more experienced people. Not for amateurs
@@kauilanikim3312Really?? Says who? Not EllaBangs that's for certain. Her comment has gained nearly 70👍🏻where your point hasn't been made once - in near a year. The girl has a VALID point.
There's so many products required and so much work that I'd prefer to go to a Hairdresser. I used decolouriser the other day cause I want to go blond from black and it left my hair dry for whatever reason.. it was to be so good :(
You really suit the light blonde.
What lashes are you wearing in this video!? So pretty!!!!
I told you today in one of your other videos, that I want my hair color to look just like yours! I have been watching this video, but I did NOT catch what toner brand or color, or shade you use. I went back over and over again, but since I don't know what you usually use, I just didn't catch it. You are going extremely fast for someone that doesn't know what you use. Can you tell me, please?
She used Redken bleach with a bonder- hard to find if not a stylist. I recommend schwarzkopf blondeme which you can get on Amazon, or the Wella powder bleach they have at Sally Beauty.
She colored the orange part with Redken 8NN permanent color, and toned with Redken Shades EQ-a Demi permanent color which she diluted to a level 10. Redken just came out with a level 10, so you don’t have to dilute it anymore.
Redken is extremely hard to find if not a stylist. Sally beauty has come out with a generic brand of this type of color.
I tried something like this a few years ago with bleach and Ion Demi colors from Sally Beauty.
Silvia...I have been studying level 3-4 dark brown hair...I need to be able to do my own hair but I chicken out when it comes to the developer of choice. In your opinion should I use two applications of level 30 with lightener to achieve a natural blonde? How should this change in comparison to your video starting with a level 6 hair?
Yes a video please! Lol..
Question, can we use the blonder wella on all the hair or only on roots?? And if so , is it the same result?
Where can I buy shades Eq if im not lisenced? Every stylist uses it and it looks sooo goood🤩
Hi Silvia!! I have naturally dark brown hair like you hair like you & I have grey about 25 to 30 percent. I started with Redken products 2009 demi permanent. I am now using a demi as well but from Sally' s Hair Supply. Medium Natural Dark Brown. The ends have grabbed the color because I have been growing my hair out from a Pixie/Bob (shaved at the nape up to about the ear & short layers until the front which appeared to be a layered Bob). How can I remove the color that grabbed without messing up the rest? I also want to lighten up my hair to maybe a 5/6 level so that I would have a beautiful lighter brown with highlights. My goal is to have a shag haircut but now I saw your videos of your hairs journey and when you first started filming with a friend! I would love your hair color from then with pretty highlights (I tan easily) & I have golden tones to my skin but when I look at the veins on the inside of my arms they appear blue (cool?) I wear a lot of white, grey & black with splashes of color when I am able. My email is dianecarter804@gmail.com or IG dianecarter804 on Instagram. Pictures are difficult to judge a true color I realize. I want to stay away from red highlights. I do not look good in red but I think coral & peach are complimentary to my skin but I look good in light lime green especially with a tan 😁😁😁🦁🦁. My stylist says I can't do blonde because I am so dark??? HELP PLEASE 💜💜💜
Hi Silvia, love your videos!! I have one question, what is the difference between 09t and 09v?
Jennifer Paul t is more for a reddish orangish and the v is for yellow
Could you do an updated video showing how you color/touch up your hair? It would be really helpful. ❤️👍🏽
Thank you you have inspired me to be belong...what is your new technique to doing your hair...it seems as though now you have more of a balayage with baby lights now....
Whoaaaa. Better know what you are doing before trying this at home. This description was for someone with experience. It was not user/beginner friendly
Hi!! Can you pleeease 🙏
Put the link of the products you used for all the procedures??
You're so beautiful! I can't stop staring at your lashes! Love the vid.
Any suggestions on alternative toners & pH bonder if we don't have access to Redkin products?
Elizabeth Mejia She has a video with an alternative product. It is one of her toner videos. It is a Wella product.
They are now available on Amazon.
i buy on ebay from 5* sellers
@@Larimeri767 they sell wella toners at Sally beauty supply stores
Hi Silvia! Will the 8NN colour you put over the orange hair wash out over time and turn orange again?
The exact 8nn she is using is a permanent color and the hair will not go back orange. You may eventually need a glossing treatment if it gets kind of dull but it wont be orange unless you put orange in
My biggest question has always been this. You said you let the bleach process for 20 mins. To me if I was doing this to myself I would be terrified of taking too long. For instance if it takes me 30 mins to get all of the foils in I've already let that first piece process for 30 mins and the last one I did just started. Won't that make a huge difference in the color of the first and last foil done
Kory Wester wow. thanks for your amazing reply! really helpful!
Kory Wester they sprayed my hair hair with water while bleach on it and that strand after was so noodle like it was bad
Ugh what??
Is it possible to slowly bleach hair with 10 volume developer, say every two weeks over a couple months? And would it save any damage to the hair?
My hair is medium brown now (dyed), and I would just like to lighten it 2 levels without over processing
