a fact I always found interesting is that they said to save money the stunt doubles would die more then once if you pay attention the goons start with a full head of hair and as they get killed they get progressively less, so the ones that are bald and clean shaven have died like 3-4 times.
Definitely gotta watch the rest after this! Fun fact: Keanu does his own training, martial arts and weapons training, he really is this lethal in real life, there’s some videos of him training for this movie and it’s insane.
The reaction to the officer Jimmy scene when I saw this in the theater made us all miss the next minute's sound. This whole movie is in NY. John lives in the Hamptons (former clients house was used for externals in 2). Orellio is in Queens. The Continental is in Manhattan. Never know for sure but I want to say that club is in Brighton Beach in BK.
Since this is never revealed in the movies, here’s the “Impossible Task” that John had to do in order to leave the gang. Kill all of Viggo’s rivals in New York City in a single night. “The bodies he buried that day laid a foundation for what we are now.”
The first movie just had a barrage of awesome actors right in the first 20 minutes. And so many funny lines, that get better every time you watch again. But more than that, it's one of those movies that sets a standard... and honestly we now have John Wick marathons at our house where we go through all 3, and they are all awesome. Can't wait for a fourth. By the way, you guys should check out Jojo Rabbit if you haven't already!
When you really break that scene @7:01 and the meaning... he vaguely states what Mr Wick had to do, takes a swig and then followed up with the outcome. He took that drink as if it was burning through him, like he knows the reality of what ultimately happened, had to follow through with his word, but was a little terrified of it all. Then he follows through with the line ,"The bodies he buried that day, laid the foundation of WHAT we are now." The amount of deaths that followed his presence to retire in his terms was such that it may have cost the destruction of another group like theirs and utterly terrified everyone to submission. So for Viggo, he owes John his life for getting the rewards that followed... but also understood what the consequences were for him
Gotta remember, in the Red Circle, John had already fought through numerous foes before getting to the last guy. If John were rested he'd have taken that guy out with no problem, I think. :)
The color palette of this movie was important for symbolism. When we see John Wick in the "real" world, it's bright, but monochromatic. When he's in the underworld, it's colorful, but dark.
Now that you have seen John Wick, you owe it to yourselves to see the comedy bit called a 'Pitch Meeting' for the John Wick movie. The Pitch Meetings are short videos by Ryan George where he plays both parts as a screenwriter and the movie exec to whom he is pitching the movie. They are all funny, but the one for John Wick is especially hilarious!
The Continental Hotels are essentially neutral ground, Safe Houses for everyone in their "world". Nobody is allowed to do their criminal stuff on the premises, most especially murder (or really violence of any sort, but self-defense is apparently allowed). As part of their front of legitimacy, normal people can also stay at the hotels, which is why the special lounge takes a coin to get in. Which, basically means staying at a Continental is just about the safest places on Earth. Perkins broke the rules by going after John inside the hotel, but that probably would've just gotten her kicked out or something along those lines. It was the fact that she killed Harry, that got her executed. I'm sure Winston was happy to do it for John and Marcus' sakes, but as far as the rules go, her only actual mistake was in attacking John and killing Harry. Just another example of the really stellar worldbuilding. I wish these guys could've had more say in how The Matrix got made. It would've been 10 times better than what we got.
An ancient order called Assa-sins used to accept only gold as payment (weight in gold) for their services such as espionage, murder, or counterintelligence. A little bit of info the majority of people don't know, this movie(the first of the John Wick trilogy) is actually, albeit VERY loosely, based on a true story, it's based on Marcus Luttrell and his dog DASY. In 2009 after having been back in the US for a while after the events portrayed in the Lone Survivor movie, Luttrell was having trouble sleeping and his dog, DASY, pronounced "Daisy" but standing for the members of his squad, wanted outside into the yard, Luttrell of course let the dog go out to do her business while he sat and watched TV, minutes later he heard a gunshot and then laughing, outside a group of wannabe gang bangers had shot and killed DASY, leaving her in a ditch, Luttrell retrieved a handgun and ran outside, those that had killed DASY jumped in their car and tried to run away, Luttrell proceeded to get into his truck and chase them while phoning the police and reporting to them the situation, he chased them through 3 Texas counties until the police caught up and stopped all of them, reportedly Luttrell told a sheriff deputy that, the only reason he didn't ignore the police and kill all of them was that he, "had killed enough people".

Y’all should react to the Orphan with Vera Ferminga, the raid redemption & the protector with tony jaa
