Thanks for the time to do this.I know their carb guys out there that spent the time to come up with all of this from day one and it is good to see some one taking the time to put the knowledge out there so one it isn't wasted and two so that other improvements may be discovered by the next generation of those going forward.Technology today is nice and EFI makes a lot happen particularly if you are looking for cutting edge power , but for many of us being able to keep it simple mechanically and have a lot of fun and go fast in the process on a reasonable budget is all many of us are looking for.25 years ago we ran car tire dragbikes in the 7s with little rajays and s&s draw through set ups talk about simple. Not optimum but simple and fun.Now I'm trying to get my seventeen year olds interest so we will start with a single turbo blow through and your sharing this knowledge helps take a lot of the guess work out of it.Thanks again keep up the good work!
Also, remember EFI is not for every engine. My brother has an old MOPAR 318 Poly engine (stroked to 408) that he is putting a supercharger on. This information is vital for his application.
Really awesome video series! I've been drag racing since I was young, but always with naturally aspirated small/big Chevrolet. I've been wanting to try a turbo on my gas tow rig so I started researching blow through setups and I can really relate to how you've explained them and the advice you give. I'll be following your instruction only on a much milder scale of course and I'm really looking forward to more content from your channel. Have a great day Sir!
I appreciate you taking the time to make this series, it helps us all out big time!
Funny, I have the exact same glass. Thanks for all the detail you have provided.
These videos are too good for youtube. Thank you
Really appreciate all the info!!
Grateful video. I'm not scared now. Thx.
These were some of the best/ informative video's I ever watched. Thanks awesome job!!
Thank you
Great series, will help me get turbo blow thru going! Thanks for letting me knowI don’t really need a intercooler with carb.
You should know that while you don't need the intercooler, you will still pick up horsepower if you add one. See Richard Holdeners youtube channel for videos on the subject.
Oh man I needed you last year 😭 I had to sell by baby last year because I didn't have a brpv. I had 500cfm holley in a inline 6. Now I know where to get it. Thank for this videos I'll use them in my in classroom in the future. Thank you
javier always another project ! Thanks
Thanks a bunch. 👍
Ay man really good stuff here. Much appreciated and def saving these vids to my tuning playlist and going to sub. Will def give you a shoutout when I get my nova up. Keep it lit man!
Your very articulate and your technical ability is so impressive. Could you please do a video where you run through the set up in your car? Eg, what cam are you running,?what heads? Which turbo? Timing controller?
nice
you used to be able to buy jets up to 109 or 110, i bought some in #108 and #109, for something about 10 years ago...
A little rough presentation but to the point. Relax and just make a smooth talk as if your talking to your buddy, no need to rush/ cram it in 10 minutes. You seem to have full grasp on this subject so re do it and go through the circuits 1 at a time and explain how they work under boost. 1/2 hr video of following the fuel flow , will help a lot of people when tuning. Didn't think anyone was still playing around with this much anymore. M2C Hard to watch but still enjoyed it. Thanks.
PS : them tiny drill bits bend super easy so never set them down any way but flat un chucked. A 20 can become a 30 just looking at it wrong , and like a women can get bent out of shape in a blink of an eye. micro bend in the bit can change a lot and hour glass the hole
P Kuudsk thanks man, ya it’s always a struggle trying to fit it in a time frame people will actually watch! Also yes I gotta slow down it’s hard on camera fo whatever reason it’s hard to talk . Re shoot 3 times and your like “f it good enough lol”
Thanks for the well thought out feedback not some your ugly comment
BRAVO !!!!
A very well done series
Do you have any opinions about Water/Meth injection units, specifically the under carb plate kind?
Not all of us can get E85 and have to settle for 93 octane.
I have not personally used any water meth. It works well from what I have seen. Best of luck with the build!
Ty man your vids are the truth and guys like me need more video to understand lol..👌 we not tryin to blow parts frfr. Quick 2 questions. Im runnin 22+boost. Whats a good plug to run and whats a good gap. .28 gap im blowing the spark. Anyway your vids are fiyahhh🔥🔥
Les Harp what engine fuel and compression
@@tittan1500 2 3l..9:2:1
93octane
Great video very informative and straight forward. I have done blow through with an edlebrock and worked okay which made me switch to holley double pumper. My question is if you do not use two power valves do you need to plug that powervalve hole on the one side you do not use the powervalve?
Holley sells a blank power valve block off, you do not need to block the port in the base
Dude I learned so much from this video. Thank you! How much hp will a setup like this support?
Depending on fuel and boosters but a non annular gas will get to 1000 pretty easy
For the rear throttle blades and for the accelerator pumps
Shane Mcclaran accelerator pump tuning is not effected by going blow though tune the shot size / duration to get a nice crisp transition.
I have not played with altering the timing of the blades. I would imagine going to a 1/1 linkage would not be ideal as most turbo motors are smaller and have tight converters.
Nice work, great info and explanation! Can you make a quick suggestion for a 5.3 700hp goal on E85; what E85 Jets and PVRC sizes do you recommend to start tuning with? Thank you!
Carswell's Customs link in the video description has an e85 carb setup / build sheet
I opened the Basic Gasoline Blow Through Starting Tune, but I do not see any information E85 listed. Maybe on a different video?
Hi Tittan 1500, I clicked every link in this description is the information somewhere else?
Carswell's Customs I updated the excel spreadsheet. Keep in mind every booster / metering block will generate a different signal so this is a base like
Excellent info! Thank you again!!
Hey! Are you still doing carb videos? Was wondering if you could do a diy e85 conversion for non blow through
Did you need to drill or block certain emulsion holes when running e85 blow through? Your video have taught me alot and appreciate every one of them.
Brian Hundemer start with your current gas tuneup and go from there. You probably don’t need to change the height of the hole
@@tittan1500 ok, let me ask this idk if your familiar with the quick fuel e85 conversion metering blocks. Im using those, if that would change things?
Brian Hundemer I have not purchased that kit before. I assume it’s just the same blocks with larger main wells and screw in emulsion holes
Hi building a turbo 350 now. I have bought a power valve from you. Just a question. If I fit the power valve to the secondary side do I still have a power valve in the primary side? Do I leave the primary alone?
Just have a question. Can u explain the vent tube extensions better. My current set up does not have them. Thanks again!
Jeff
I have a video on that topic too. Short story you see the signal quicker so the carb does 2 things, 1. Responds quicker and 2. The air shoots directly into the tube not across it so the carb gets a stronger signal in the bowl.
Many people find this makes the carb flow more fuel aka its like adding jet sizes
Great video series! Thank you. This may be a dumb question and someone probably already asked. I am having an issue with wide open throttle. It works great until 3/4 almost full throttle. Reading 12 - 12.5 to 1 on the AFR. Then I mash it to the floor and it goes to 14 to 1. Would this maybe be the power valve restrictors being too small in the secondaries or possibly the high speed air bleeds? I am only running about 6 pounds of boost. Any help is greatly appreciated.
You need more total fuel. Add more secondary jet to get it safe then you can work on balancing it out
@@tittan1500 I currently have 97 jets in the secondaries. I will put smaller air bleeds in first and see if that helps. Otherwise I will go into the bowl and change to 99 jets. I appreciate the response.
Tittan,I wanted to ask about sealing throttle shafts. I know the demon comes with sealing on their blow through models but I don't know about others Could you offer some insight. Also the first blow through we are going to do will be a low boost 10 to 12 lbs street set up.Since it will see some real world street time would it make sense to run a standard PV on primary side and boost referenced on the secondary side? Or should the base line jetting be rich enough to manage part throttle no boost use and just use boost referenced pvs primary and secondary. This will be 360 plus cu.inch single turbo manual trans combo.I bought a used quick fuel blow through 650 cheap as a base so I will be starting combo in the next month or so I want to finish it for my sons birthday. I've had most of the parts for this for sometime now I was just waiting until he was ready. Now he's getting the itch.
J Damon sealed throttle shafts can be done in a few ways, quick fuel I believe cuts a slot into the base to pressurize both sides of the shaft.
Idk how much it really matters. A local guy by be has run an old holley BT carb without sealed shafts for years.
Sure sealed are better but if I already had a carb I would use that.
I have used vacuum PV in the front and the BRPV in the rear. It works fine just be carefull it’s easy to over size the PVCR on the primary with an vac power valve as it opens before the tirbo spools!
I used like a 1.5 hg valve if I remember correctly to delay the PV opening as much.
It’s been years, I did go dual BRPV after that to fix said bog
Does changing throttle cams make a difference in your carb tuning for blow throw use
Shane Mcclaran you mean the timing if the secondary blades ? Or the accelerator pump
Could I do this process on a 2 barrel? I’m attempting to boost a 2.6l? I’m assuming a 4 barrel would be to much. Thank you
aaron mcbride yes exact same
Let me ask this, if I'm running e85 blow through, if I drill my pvrc say .080 do I match the secondary side as well if I'm running bapv in both primary and secondary?
Brian Hundemer ideally yes that will help you keep the carb “square” but at times you can’t dump all the fuel in the primary so fast so there can be a difference.
In the end as long as the total fueling for the primary and secondary are close your going to have decent cylinder to cylinder AFR
Is your basic carb setup for turbo application or for centrifugal supercharger.
I have a vortech supercharger on my 383 with a modded carb and a 50mm bov.
I’m finding I can’t get the car to idle as it’s getting a lot of air even at low rpm and 2 much fuel . Any suggestions ?
It’s for a turbo, but it’s close for both
Is your BOV open at idle ?? Are you using a vacuum power valve ?
I have a holley brawler 850 race carb . Any way to tune the carb with power valve plugs and just tuning off the jets? Only running 8lbs of boost on a chevy 355.
Ya but with no powervalves at all it’s going to be an on or off switch
Ok I understand I appricate the response . With low boost like I am running what size jets should I start out with
Can u revisit these videos and do a draw through setup?
Wish i could, but I do not have a racecar anymore
I follow everything I ordered the power restrictor but I put it in the secondary. Is that OK Does it matter thank you great video. Do I need to run a plug in the primary or can I run a vacuum secondary.
Vacuum power valve in the front and BRPV in the rear or both BRPV
@@tittan1500 My car stumbles on the trans brake any ideas ..
@@PontiacLS when you let off the brake does it bog? Do you have BRPV in the primary and secondary
Quick question I'm having an issue with a rich condition on just off idle its something that has recently started pulled in the driveway at 13.6 ish afr one night left in the morning at 9.9 ish afr's. It sounds like it may be an idle air bleed issue from what I understand you say?
Reset your 4 corner idle first and see if those screws moved or something.
Floats stuck high possibly
Leaking / blown power valves can cause rich idle too
If this car was dialed in I doubt the air bleeds changed on there own
@tittan1500 ok I'll check the idle screws first.
Floats are good and I run the brpv which I've switched and had the same condition.
Truck was dialed in however I don't run inner fenders and I lost and air filter took me a week to notice. There can be a decent amount of debris around the turbo maybe it sucked up a little debris and potentially partially plugged the air bleeds. Could this be possible?
Using your example when squaring the carb with a .08 pvcr and 68 jet (.0355) wouldn’t a 93 or 94 jet be closer to square? Or am I reading it wrong? Thanks for your videos!
It’s just a common staring place most guys don’t ever bother to square a carb.
Your primary jets are going to be what they are to allow the car to drive light throttle.
Then your correct you would go up on the PVCR to find that balance so the primary and secondary pull the same fuel WOT
Keep in mind the more your add to the primary pvcr your going to be reducing the rear netting too so gotta so some math / estimating to reduce trial and error
Hey i built the carb where it works on power at every interval with boost however... idle is the only place i have a problem...idle is at 19.0 afr it barely runs at idle and way too lean.. idle adjustment needles dont have any effect. Wondering what you may think.
How close is your o2 sensor to the end of the exhaust ? Sounds like it’s close.
Tune it by vacuum old school and if it idles well ignore the gauge, pretty common for guys to chase the AFR gauge at idle
If you can’t get it to idle well your blades transfer slots might be off or the idle feed restrictors.
However it you dident change the fuel or put it on some huge engine it should be close already
@@tittan1500 I’ll try the blades cause it’s lean popping at idle very aggressively
What would be the basic mods for 15 pounds on boost on a bbc? I have a holly 950hp now. Gas carb
Andrew Myers most likely if it’s basic. If it makes big power NA then bo
@@tittan1500 I make 425hp at the crank now na. 8-1 compression. I'm gonna go with a vortec blow thru supercharger or a torque storm supercharger. And I plan starting at 8 psi then pushing it to 14psi after getting the feel for 8psi . I'm thinking it's only gonna make 700hp. Non intercooled. Maybe less. Has good dart aluminum 340cc heads and team g intake.
Should be good to go
Area of a circle is rad x rad x pi = a. your spreadsheet is showing dia x dia x pi = a.
Thank you for catching that mark I updated it
Watch the videos a hundred times bought all the things to make my Holley XP 750 CFM a blow through carburetor runs a 100 times better twin turbo big block Chevy when I get to 15 psi around 6,000 RPM it builds fuel pressure and starts to fall on its face running a mechanical fuel pump what am I doing wrong
This is real old and you’ve probably found out by now, but an inexperienced head as myself would say you’re running out of pump. Can only throw in the pressure the pump can supply. He explained it in the first part I believe
Anyway that I can buy and carb online and send it to you and pay you to build it for me I don’t have all the tools and know how I’ll probably end up fucking it up
Get that flag off of the bench, it's not a damn rag
