I just purchased some facetted semi precious stones the other day because I thought it was time to do this. Mine are small in comparison. I do appreciate your tutorials.
You can always do the 'normal' prong setting for those smaller stones. The gallery setting really is more for larger stones like this one. I have made a tutorial for the simple prong setting if you want to take a look. It's in the mini tutorial folder :)
I have been binging your videos! Do the same rules apply when your stone has an inconsistent diameter when forming your prongs? If not, how do you adjust? Thank you for you're time! you're a breath of fresh air:)
That is so nice of you to say! Thank you so much!! 🥰 🥰 Do you mean irregular stones? If so, I try to keep the prongs spaced evenly but sometimes, when a shape is being 'extra' I adjust the spacing to accommodate the irregularities. Hope this helps! 😊
You are so fantastic. Is the anything you can't do? I have noticed or maybe missed you doing those headybwraps with all the coiling from the coiling machine and frankly I don't care for them I think they are a bit to busy and to many different elements added. I just love your style of letting the natural flow make the piece.
Aw thank you so much! There is a lot I can't do lol!! Heady wrap tutorials are on my to-do list. I am teaching a heady workshop at the end of the month, so I am planning to do some tutorials after that. I do like this style a lot and it's actually more my personal style but because it is so complex, I don't often have time to create a big piece. They can be quite 'busy' if you don't get the flow right, but when you do, they are true pieces of art!
Great video! I have a question: Are there any tips for avoiding wrist and hand pain from wire work? I also play the guitar and I've had too severely limit myself from doing wire work after having my hand seize up while performing!
I know what you mean! Unfortunately this is difficult to avoid. My only suggestions would be to gently ease yourself into wire weaving, and don't do too much to start with to let you tendons etc... get used to the action. I don't think it can be avoided entirely I'm afraid. Mabe wearing some wrist guards will give you a little stability?
Beautiful piece. One Q: Even after all the reinforcement, those prongs being so soft don't look strong enough to hold a stone of that size securely in place. They (the prongs) appear to be moving around quite a bit with minimal force from your pliers. Is this just because it's copper for the demo (would you normally be using sterling?), or do you feel this is a secure setting for a stone of that size? I have a large oval faceted amethyst that would look stunning set this way in sterling, but I'd be crushed if the stone fell out after a short period of wearing. Thanks for your excellent videos, they're very well made and to the point!
A stone that size would normally be held in place by other weaves. The gallery setting (in this instance) would only be the first measure to hold the stone. While the prongs do move, the stone is actually quite secure, but I would definitely reinvorce the setting with other layers of wire wrapping. Hope this helps!
Lovely ! thank you for sharing this tutorial.
You're very welcome! 🤗

@@ImbaliCrafts Very much so, thanks!
Thank you for this it's awesome
I'm just wondering if I could get away with using a Ravoli for this style
I'm so enjoying your tuts
Yes, you absolutely can. You can pretty much use all reasonably sized, round gemstones for this setting :)
👏👏👏👍👍👍
😊😊
clever and wise! thank you! :o)
Aw thank you Francine! x
Hello, is this dead soft wire or half hard wire? Thank you!
This is dead soft wire 🙂
Could this work with round wire?
Hi there, yes it would, no problem! 😊
What type of wire is that? Precious metals or copper core?
It's square copper wire but you can use precious metal as well. Round works but isn't as good.
