We started SwitchUp as we just didn’t find what we were looking for in what was already out there. There are some brilliant creators - but we enjoyed a more retro format like the old gaming magazines. Scoring 5 sections out of 20 to give a percentage score like the good old days! Hopefully, you enjoyed our more unusual style. We’ll always try and cover any new Nintendo Switch games, Top Nintendo Switch games or Upcoming releases as best we can.
For all things Switch all the time, keep it SwitchUp!

Are you getting Spyro? Let us know. Happy gaming. Glen
I would get it on Steam🎮👍
Mark please don’t overdue it
Very good Review!❤️
This game is definitely a little gem
Appreciate you almost dying for the reviews, but dont actually die plz
Thanks for the early review!
Tell him to stop slacking and get back to work! 😡👉 Lol jk. 😁
Thank you for the great review!
I remember back in January when no games where going to be released this year for the switch. My wallet misses those days.
I know I'm trying to work through my backlog before the huge wave of games leave me drowning 😅, certainly different to the WiiU days
@@andrewcameron7383 there are so many good games that I have to forgo many brilliant title because I can't spend all my expendable income on the switch.
As a college student, playing spyro on the go is a dream come true
It really is! Mark
I’ve been doing this since the PSP days.
I have been doing it for YEARS, you could have the original 3 games on the PSP YEARS AGO LIKE OVER A DECADE.
I wish I had the Switch when I was living on campus. Doubly more so would have loved having Spyro on it. The game runs so much better than I was expecting.
Ps1, ps2 emulators exist for mobile. And snap-on controllers
I love Spyro for reasons that might render me weird in some peoples opinion. Games are all fun for different reasons but most follow a general formula. I love Spyro since I was a kid and fell in love all over again with this remake becasue it evokes calmness and nostalgia. From the sound of gems to the nice, charming, upbeat music to the beautiful colors to the silly humor. Its all a change of phase from all the competitiveness and frustration most games evoke these days. I play Spyro when I need a therapy session and feel calm. I can collect everything over and over again because even tho it is challenging it is never frustrating. Ultimately.... Buy it, the developers put a lot of love into it and you will fall in love too.
Not weird at all! I also play games for the way they make me feel or help me relax. I appreciate your input. I enjoyed reading how this game made you feel and I can’t wait to buy it on sale for my switch today! ☺️
I'm reading your comment 3 years later, but I'm glad I came across it. I have a similar experience with a game called New Super Lucky's Tale, which I've seen compared to this one. I'm always looking for something like New Super Lucky's, so your comment has helped me decide this is probably a game for me. 👍
Now i have to purchase this again on switch.
Fantastic review, im drooling at the mouth for this game all over again in heandheld !
Cheers brother! Mark
Being a smaller channel y’all go all out on your reviews! I appreciate it!
Thanks Kody! Mark
I’m so happy this is on the switch now. I used to play this on the PlayStation when I was younger.
I'm so happy with this port! :D Great review!
One thing for completionists: you can make Sparx point to where the remaining gems are by pressing the left stick! For those last shiny slippery ones!!
I just purchased this for my son for Christmas. I appreciate this review.
You're most welcome my friend! Mark
Such a good review. Didn’t play it back in the day. Maybe I need to now.
Thanks so much! Mark
I'm loving all these reviews. Don't give up Mark , great work !!
Good job Mark. As always great review. Love watching these on my subway rides.
Cheers mate! Mark
There is no words in the world could describe how great u r guys, I always enjoy watching ur reviews and trust ur rating
will try to get this game as soon as possible, cheers
Cheers mate! Really appreciate that! Mark
Amazed you got through all three so quickly! As someone who went the Sega route during the "32 bit era" I missed out on playing a few of the Sony exclusives.. I might just have to pick this up at some point. Thanks.
hahah I didn’t entirely finish the third game bro! I’m human! Played a ludicrous amount though! Was quite ill day before yesterday after a 12 hour stint! Mark
You guys must be on some strong coffee, you've been pumping out reviews lately!
Great review of a classic I never played back in the day. As always, the Switch breathes new life (and interest) into old
Thanks mate, yeah we've been busy! Mark
Picked it up for £20 on the eshop today downloaing right now so excited thanks for the usual amazing quality and awesome video overall
Great review again lads - I'll be sticking this on the Christmas List
Just picked this up and it brings back so many memories of playing the originals. It's quite the nostalgia shot.
2 Switch Up videos in one day!? Awesome!
FINALLY! Been waiting so long for a Spyro Remake on the Switch. I used to play this on the PS1 😍
Same, and same! I remember getting A demo disk in a magazine and spyro was on there! Good times!
I've never played Spyro, is it a collect-a-thon platformer like Banjo Kazooie? Are there any puzzles and challenges or is it just about collecting stuff?
@@JakobTennisMB collect-a-thon is an accurate term here. Each spyro game has a main area filled with portals to "levels". You go to each level to collect whatever is at the end, or to collect currencies for the one vendor in the game, or sometimes I think a level just needs to be completed for the story to progress somehow (even if there's nothing specific about the level that makes sense to do that).
There are some puzzles, but nothing particularly complicated. I played this as a kid and don't recall anything mind-bending. Story is nice. Silly, but nice.
The graphics in the remastered version are like a dream! The silliness of the characters complimented the original PS1 graphics at the time. But these new graphics are beautiful anyway!
If you're lookin for a simple game to run through, I definitely recommend the Spyro trilogy here. Those random Tony-hawk skareboarding arenas were so much fun too xD
Very good review, speech too! I'm German and was able to understand all without struggle. Will buy IT!
Thanks for the update and looks like I'll be getting this for me and the kids! Awesome. Thanks!
Been waiting for this port, so excited!
Great review! Was really good to see some comparison visuals! It’s great to have a “well this is what my eyes saw review too, rather than a super technical video. I’m glad it runs well, I did think it might be quite poor.
I think the other platforms had that forced download aspect too and I agree it’s pretty disappointing for collectors. Some games these days are literally a code in a box. I’m not a huge physical collector but if I do buy a boxed game I expect it to all be in there.
Yeah I'd agree with that. Appreciate your feedback. Mark
You guys are my favorite Switch Review channel. I promise I will Patreon this Christmas! 😁🙏
Thanks so much! You're awesome! Mark
@@SwitchUpYt Thanks man but it's you guys that do all the work for us. Thank you! Btw I'm a fellow Walker as well😉🙏
Man, I'm just glad you finally caught that egg thief there at the end! I'd have been very bothered if you'd chased him so long only to never reveal his fate!
Hehehe you're a good man watching to the end! Mark
@SwitchUp Can't wait to play this, thanks for the review!
Excellent review, but the physical download has really put me off purchasing this game unfortunately.
It would be my first time playing spyro but im very excited the graphics just look awesome
Spyro on Switch! All my dreams have finally come true haha. I agree with you that they've done a great job with the port and graphics update. It was cool to see your side by side comparison of the remaster vs the original and you realize just how much love was put back into it! I also noticed immediately that the soundtrack was remastered and I was pleasantly surprised by that too. So much to love here 😍.
they've absolutely nailed it in my opinion. Everyone would have complained if they totally changed the gameplay but instead they just want the controls to make them better. Mark
@@SwitchUpYt totally! It still feels like the Spyro I remember but looks better, sounds better and feels better. A home run in my opinion.
Ya, i never played the Spyros but I knew I'd love em. (I'm gonna play tonight for a couple hrs) Extremely charming looking game....love bright colored games P.s We gotta hurry up and enjoy this before we get before Zelda on the 20th lol
@@cappy2282 right?! September is such a good month for games. They coulda spaced them out a bit 😭.
Great review! Picked this game up today really looking forward to playing it.
Good stuff, tell me how you get on. Mark
I loved spyro. Hits me right in the feels!
Good job Mark! You deserve a beer or two hahah
Thanks I need them! Mark
Cheers for this Glen, will be looking forward to this. Was my childhood back in the day.
Mark haha
Great review Mark.. I think along with Torchlight 2 I'll pick these up because of your recommendation and excellent reviews. 👍
Thanks mate! Mark
30 hours . It would take me ages to complete them 100%. Good review guys!
just got home with this game in my mailbox :D can't wait to play it after the download
What a lovely feeling! Mark
With all 3 games it seems there's a lot of game here, the physical edition downloads means I'll likely wait for this to be under £20 on eshop, thank you for the comparison videos and the handheld footage is always welcome. Thanks for all the effort guys it really put your reviews above the rest. Plus the cheapest place to get them online!
First we get crash then spyro and now SpongeBob in 2020 whats next?Tak and the power of juju trilogy.
Most likely! Mark
Great job :) Very glad this is on switch, I won't be getting this since I got it on PS4 for my birthday last year, and I own the original versions on my Vita so I can still play them handheld :D Those skateboarding sections are amazing
Epic review !! Im so happy to see my boy Shines again on Nintendo switch 😘😍 Definitely going pick it up physical but EUR version thanks for the review keep it up 👍 guys
Cheers Omega! Mark
I can't wait to get this game! Probably my favorite trilogy ever.
Its great isn’t it! Mark
This looks great & sounds like a fun one I might have to pick up. Thanks for reviewing it, especially since I’ve never played any Spyro games.
Wow another who's not played them. Just us old farts. Mark
SwitchUp - Pretty sure I’m older than both of you, but I never had a Playstation back then.
SwitchUp Seriously. Not that I feel bad for playing these on the original hardware and spending a lot of time earning 100%. The one thing in my case was that I was a little late to the PlayStation party as I kept my Sega Saturn until January 2000. I couldn’t take it anymore when I saw my cousin’s PlayStation and the excellent reviews of PlayStation games in the March-December issues of Game Informer magazine (before it was trash). One of the games that caused to finally get one: Spyro 2.
Another great review mark. Even though I'm a collector and in frowning upon the necessity dl for this game I think I might have to purchase.
Yeah it's a great port but a silly decision not putting it on one. Mark
I plan on getting this Saturday with a new sd card too heh (damn I wish all three games were on one physical card like the Crash Trilogy)
Hehehe you're going to need it! Mark
Happy to see Switch having more 3D Collectathon. Will you be reviewing A Hat in Time also?
Let's hope so! Mark
Me too. Collectathon platformers are my favorite genre of games. Can't wait for New Super Lucky's Tale & A Hat in Time on Friday. New Super Lucky's Tale is going to be a great game & so is A Hat in Time. Dont know which one I want to play first. Plus this game in coming in tomorrow so I have 2 days to beat it haha.
16GB?! That’s rough! I will most likely pick up this game later on. That is crazy that the voice of Spongebob did some of the vocals on here, I didn’t know that. Thank you for the great review!
You're welcome mate! Mark
Not that crazy, Tom Kenny does loads of voice work
I have never played a Spyro game before, but I've been keeping an eye on this since originally watching the review a few months ago. The "physical" edition dropping to $19.99 again tempted me, so I had to watch again to confirm. Will have "happy gaming" in my near future!
Same here. Ended up getting this and crash trilogy among other black friday deals lol. Can't beat this price even with 2 and 3 being download only.
Picked it up for $15 on the Nintendo eShop definitely worth it to play handheld.
Where are y'all 90's kids? This is a trip back to memory lane, which I cant wait!
Nice review Mark.. I'll get this for the kids an let's not pretend I won't be having a cheeky blast on it.
Haha that's what I'm telling my wife, "for the kids" hehehe
never had the chance to play this i just now realized! always played my cousins copy for short periods but never ever really knew the story! ugh i may have to pick this up now
Would love to see ratchet and clank on the switch and Jak and daxter this is an awesome port thanks mark and the switchup team
Pretty sure Sony have the rights to both of those franchises. I wouldn’t hold my breath on those.
Nope! Unlike Spyro and Crash, Sony still owns those games. The only game from Jak I’d say has a very slim chance is the Frontier one. Plus Sony just bought Insomniac Games who made Ratchet and Clank.
You wish lmao I dont wanna be rude but yeah. Not gonna happen . . . Not in the foreseeable future
Guess what idiot.
Sony OWNS Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter.
Sony OWNS Insomiac who makes Ratchet and Clank
Sony OWNS Naughty Dog which made Jak and Daxter.
SO GOOD LUCK, those great games aren't going to a GARBAGE ASS PLATFORM.
@@LUCKO2022
Fuck, you have a shit personality.
Got it now that is on sale and goes for 19.99 already played it on PS4 when it first came but having it on the go is amazing!!!
Best 19.99 ever spent I would say!!
Looks good! I’ll probably pick up a used copy someday when I see it.
Great review 👍
This really looks have knocked it out of the park. Great review.
Thanks brother, they did a great job! Mark
Thanks mark!! You are a beast!
Cheers - it's a pleasure! Mark
These games look great and like a lot of fun!! Thanks guys.
This is going to bring me back to whern I a was a happy 8 year old spoiled brat!! Great video guys, solid as always.
Pfft, I was 22 and geeking out on these games when I finally got a PlayStation. Spyro 2, Ape Escape, Star Ocean 2, Croc, Tetris Plus and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo were my first games after giving away my Saturn.
@@9255223 I was 10 😒
Great review!
Thanks I really appreciate that. Mark
Holy COW! Totally forgot about the hockey mini game
ITs great isnt it! Mark
You're gonna love astral chain
Excellent review, so sad I cant purchase this game just yet, gotta finish DQB2. but its definitely on my radar
Nice review! Switch Up is a great review channel! Although I can always tell when someone knows nothing about the skateboarding world lol. Everything is a Tony Hawk skateboarding thing hahaha
I just picked this.up this morn.. haven't played it yet but super pumped.
Stick cartridge in: 2hr download (that's ridiculous 😒)
Yeah it's absolutely ridiculous mate. Mark
Am loving this game GameStop has it. I’m currently playing the first one. I played the second one a little bit.
Great games for sure. Mark
Very good review
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Mark
Looks fun, I may Finnaly give this game a go. Bow I just wish banjo kazooey and conquers bad fur day remastered appear .
I'm not old enough to play the originals but I really loved spyro on skylanders when I was 6 I'll pick it up
I think you'll enjoy them. Mark
Spyro would have made an amazing pet/companion in Torchlight 2! This game isn't my cup of tea, great review. See Yaah!
Looking interesting. I'm looking forward to get this game alongside with Crash Bandicoot N-sane Trilogy both digitally for $80
double dipping feel so right. Spyro on the go was my one big dream because I miss out on the PSP. Bought the Vita for Sly, Ratchet , and Jak. Felt duped for not able to play Crash and Spyro on the go. Now I can play both Crash and Spyro on the go. Something the PS Vita miss out on.
Funny, I have Spryo and Crash ON MY PS Vita.... without hacking it either.
Sony for a brief time had them available so you can have them on the Vita. I took advantage and downloaded them and never deleted them. So LOL.
Oh and PSP's are cheap BTW, you could buy one of those and play them on the go.
Still superior handhelds to the garbage ass Switch that runs things at what 2 FPS.
This game reminds me of the PlayStation part 1,2,3 that's crazy it's like playing as a little kid all over again 👍
0:19 two tew too
It's on sale (50% off) on the eShop, so I'm gonna get it. I doubt it'll get cheaper than this for while.
If all three games where on the cartridge I would have got this now now!
Yeah I feel that. Mark
My one gripe is having to download 10 gigs for the physical release. And the full game shows as 13 gigs on eShop. I could have gotten it on eShop and gotten the gold coins to put towards future games I could download. Also dashing in the direction Spyro is facing is going to take some getting use to.
Yeah that's a really strange practice that needs to stop. Mark
The frame rate drops like crazy
That happens in all versions its a bug they didn’t fix yet
I'd say it has minor stutters but it's still ok
Loved skyrocket now the kids are back at school I'll have to save for it
This is the one ive been waiting for
Hope you enjoyed it! Mark
So you recommend getting the Switch and do want a cartridge version too...
I already own it on PS4, but I do own Attack of the Rynocs, but not sure if I want to keep it...
Might still get the Switch version, and thanks for the video man...
fuck here we go again sinking my childhood moment, now on the go.
Wow this looks fantastic, does it hiccup like the other consoles?
I remember growing up playing games like this, Crash and other stuff on Ps1... Crash n'Sane trilogy and Team Racing didn't really deliver what was expected (as i heard at least) but spyro seems cool for some reason. Don't know, can anyone confirm?
It's the right kind of remaster. Feels great just don't expect more complex modern mechanics. It's simple and fun. Mark
@@SwitchUpYt I see, thanks! I'll have to see for myself i guess. Most likely i'll get them as soon as i get my switch.Got other priorities though such as BoTW, Pokemon, Skyrim etc etc
Dude, people still can't comprehend the difference between remasters and remakes? This is a REMAKE!
If you say so bro, but It says on the front cover art: ‘Original 3 Games remastered’
The game looks great and props to the developers for making this and Crash Team Racing on Switch so close to the other console versions. However, the fact that the publisher decided to not include all games on the cart really undermines this for part of its target audience, in my opinion.
For myself, I have a rule that I do not buy physical copies of remakes if I own the original games on physical (Rez and Okami being the only exceptions so far) and since I own all 3 games on PS1 I'd get this digitally.
Never had a Playstation one growing up so I don't have the nostalgia for Spyro but I'll try to pick this up at a sale at some point.
It 3 games and it $40 already good deal.
The game 40 bucks
@@buttermilkjesus408 still a large amount of money for some
the handheld version has a lot of dithering , how comes this was not mentioned in this review?
17 out of 20 value is a decent figure for a £35 game, especially when theres like 3 for 1 games. Great review, thank you for also expressing the overall handheld experience too. Wow my wanted list is getting bigger ! Thanks Mark
I bought it on steam but is this game like 60fps on the switch to!?
No it's running at 30 frames per second. Mark
My wife played through this on xbox recently. It's kinda surreal seeing her playing through the game again all these years later. With the same complaints. Looks good on switch.
Hehehe
yea boy!
I've never played Spyro, is it a collect-a-thon platformer like Banjo Kazooie? Are there any puzzles and challenges or is it just about collecting stuff?
You are going to collect stuff. Challenges would be the "racing" levels generally.
@@Surikoazimaet Does the game get repetitive quickly or does it introduce new elements along the way? And is it super easy or challenging?
@@JakobTennisMB it is relatively easy but it does keep things interesting
Spyro 2 and especially 3 feature a lot of little mini games that keeps it from being repetitive and many levels do have a unique gimmick
Mark
Ok ok I think it would be awesome if Disney brought back the tv show gargoyles and used a engine like this to create a video game along with it.
Haha nice idea! Mark
Well if we got spyro I hope we get medievil
Oh man I absolutely forgot about Medieval that game was amazing. Mark
It's not a "run" mechanic, it's a charge attack, and it works exactly how I'd want it to. You have to remember that the original didn't have the right-stick for camera controls. Spyro was an original PS1 title and a lot of people had the original PS1 controller, which lacked any analog sticks at all. Turning the camera would have been a pain in the ass to line up each of your charges since you'd need to charge often.
Even with the camera, it's still a pain in the ass. I would much rather gauge and adjust _Spyro's_ direction, which is much smoother than the camera controls (which cannot be adjusted for sensitivity, a gripe in and of itself), before beginning a charge than to fiddle with the camera, which sometimes may not leave much room for depending on where you're standing. This way, you can be right up against a wall and simply turn Spyro to aim for a chest, rather than turn the entire camera, barely be able to see the chest and area in front of you between Spyro and the weird camera angle.
It may seem like a problem to you now, but I assure you, it's far more intuitive once you get used to it. The camera follows behind Spyro immediately after charging to more than make up for it, as well.
I completed back on PlayStation and I even showed comparative PSX footage. I’d disagree though. I prefer to be able to point the left stick and shoot as it were. It’s how I enjoy that mechanic in other games. Glad you like it this way. Mark
@@SwitchUpYt I can't even imagine. It would drive me nuts.
Nice review Mark, I don’t buy physical games that u gotta download most of the game to play it.. Plus it’s a whole year later for the Switch version and still we gotta download most of the game what’s the point buying it physical then 🤔.
It's cheaper I guess. That's one reason to go physical. Mark
SwitchUp I do buy physical games all the time, only at Walmart. Spyro is $29.99 there.. I jus don’t like I gotta download the rest of the game to play
Remaster? You probably meant remake?!
Does the gameplay are the same for all 3 episodes?
Pretty much bar some minor mechanics being added
