What a lovely video essay on a luminous film! I disagree on one point, though: 2:03 "Beautiful Girls" the most forgettable number?? Sir, how dare you! It is riotously cheesy, bonkers, trippy, satirical fun! In my family, we sing and quote from it as much as possible. The fashion showcase is a scream. "The judge will be im-PRESSED!!!!" I contend "You were meant for me" is the most forgettable... mildly pretty, utterly insipid... highlighting the lack of romantic chemistry between Debbie and (ick) Gene. Singin' might be my favorite film, but this sequence is when I go to the kitchen and make a snack plate.
I rarely subscribe to channels, but you've got me! Keep these coming.

One of the best recaps of a movie I have ever seen. Major kudos to you!
The narration and commentary on the plot devices, songs and amazing dance numbers perfectly describes encapsulates the utter joy of the movie.
Perfectly selected clips to accompany it as well.
I just saw it on the big screen for the first time on Friday night. I am ready to see it again, and only wish it hadn't been a one-night-only engagement, as part of the theater's "classic Fridays" series. Last Saturday they made an exception, and I saw Easter Parade as a 4 PM matinee the day before Easter, another incredible musical, with two other major talents ... the always debonair Fred Astaire, and the lovely and incredibly-talented Judy Garland, at the height of her talent.
It's going to be hard to watch these classics now outside of a theater, but I am thankful that I had the opportunity to experience the films as they were meant to be seen ... on the big screen! 💫

Every summer while visiting my grandparents we would get to watch Betamax movies. My grandparents had a westerns, Star Wars and Singing in the Rain. We watched both over and over. I know both by heart.

Well, Happy Birthday to me! Thank you for creating this! I loved EVERYTHING about it! Obviously, the dance sequences are phenomenal...I always reach for my tap shoes whenever any footage is shown from DITR. But this quote just made my heart sing:
" We dance...because we can. We sing...because we can. And we love and laugh and play and create... because we can!" ❤❤❤❤
    Brilliant!

When I was growing up my dad was obsessed with Video Disc players (that was a thing) and he had That’s Entertainment and as a kid of probably 7 years old or so I was obsessed with it. Great is great. No matter the age.

1952 on full rewrite. A much better ending than previous 51 and Gable gets it. I agree, this is the Best film of al time- I think my DVD still plays the whole thing, but a funny story. In 2008 I was flooded out of my home by eight feet of flood waters. The aforementioned DVD sat on a rack with my others, a small movie collection of 20 or 30, and with my cd collection. When I was able to get back into the house past all the debris that floated around and blocked the doors, I found that like all else, the disk collection had come down into the mud when the entire rack tumbled. Coincidentally- weirdly- on the very top of the muddy and wet pile of them was "Singing in the Rain" with the cover facing up, with Gene Kelly hanging on the lamp post with his umbrella. Despite the tragedy of realizing I had just lost my home and almost all of my possessions, I found myself standing there laughing uncontrollably. I ended up washing most of my audio and video disks in the sink, like so many dirty dishes, and most of them played afterwards. Gotta dance, but your fistfights are your own, gentlemen.

I needed that. The message of your video about this movie. No greater purpose is needed, just go out and do, have fun and be silly. sounds better then to always CONSUME

Nice analysis! This is my mom's favorite movie - so I've seen in 6-7 times. I don't mind because, unlike many musicals, it is (as you say) infinitely rewatchable. You're right that the songs don't further the plot at all - most of the time that bothers me, but not with this one. The whole "Broadway Melody" rewrite had nothing to do with the flop "Dueling Cavaliers" - but who cares?
